Thebackupalarmshouldstarttosoundimmediately.Thebackupalarmwillcontinuetosounduntil thetransmissiongearselectorismovedtotheNEUTRALpositionortotheFORWARDposition.
Thebackupalarmisontherearofthemachine.
Thenonadjustablebackupalarmissetattheappropriatesoundlevelwhenthemachineisshipped fromthefactory.

1.Openthebatteryaccesscover.Thebatteryaccesscoverisontheleftsideofthemachinenext totheoperatorcompartment.
2.Tightenthebatteryretainersonthebatteriesatevery1000hourinterval.
3.Cleanthetopofthebatterieswithacleancloth.Keeptheterminalscleanandcoattheterminals withpetroleumjelly.Installtheterminalcoversafteryoucoattheterminals.
1.Closethebatteryaccesscover.

1.TurntheenginestartswitchkeytotheOFFposition.TurnalloftheswitchestotheOFF position.
2.TurnthebatterydisconnectswitchtotheOFFposition.Removethekey.
3.Disconnectthebatterycableatthebatterydisconnectswitch.Thebatterydisconnectswitchis insidetheleftengineaccessdoor.
4.Disconnectthenegativebatterycableatthebattery.
5.Replacethedisconnectswitch,thebatterycables,orthebatteries,asrequired.
6.Connectthenegativebatterycableatthebattery.
7.Connectthenegativebatterycableatthebatterydisconnectswitch.
8.InstallthekeyandturnthebatterydisconnectswitchtotheONposition.
Alwaysrecycleabattery.Neverdiscardabattery.
Alwaysreturnusedbatteriestooneofthefollowinglocations:

1.Parkthemachineonlevelground.Lowerthedozerbladetotheground.Movethetransmission controltotheNEUTRALpositionandengagetheparkingbrake.Shutofftheengine.
2.TurnthebatterydisconnectswitchtotheOFFposition.
3.Opentheengineaccessdoorsontherightside.

Ifthemachinemovesduringthetest,reducetheenginespeed immediately,andengagetheparkingbrake.
Ifthemachinemovedwhiletestingthebrakes,consultyourCaterpillar dealerforbrakeinspectionandrepair.Damagedbrakesmustbe repairedbeforereturningthemachinetooperation.
Note:Themachinecandrivethroughthebrakesinfirstgear
Makesurethattheareaaroundthemachineisclearofpersonnelandclearofobstacles. Testthebrakesonadry,levelsurface. Fastentheseatbeltbeforeyoutestthebrakes.
1.DisableEAS.
Reference:SeetheOperationandMaintenanceManual,"OperatorControls",andreferto section"EnhancedAutoShift(EAS)"formoreinformation.
2.Starttheengine.
3.Raiseallattachments.
4.Depresstheservicebrakepedal.
5.Releasetheparkingbrake.
6.Whiletheservicebrakepedalisdepressed,movethedirectionalcontroltotheSECOND SPEEDFORWARDposition.
7.Graduallyincreasetheenginespeedtofullloadspeed.Themachineshouldnotmove.
8.MovethedirectionalcontroltotheNEUTRALposition.
9.ReducetheenginespeedtoLOWIDLE.Engagetheparkingbrake.Lowerallattachmentsto theground.Applyaslightdownpressure.Stoptheengine.
Ifthemachinemovedwhiletestingthebrakes,contactyour Caterpillardealer.Havethedealerinspectand,ifnecessary,repairthe servicebrakebeforereturningthemachinetooperation.
