NOTICE
Neveroperateanenginewithoutathermostatinthecooling system.Thethermostatmaintainstheenginecoolantatthe properoperatingtemperature.
Neveraddcoolantorwatertoanoverheatedengine,engine damagecanresult.Allowtheenginetocoolfirst.Fillingatover 5U.S.gallon(20L)perminutecancauseairpocketsinthe coolingsystem.
DONOTuseDowtherm209Full-Fillcoolant.
Caterpillardoesnotrecommendtheuseofcoolingsystem solutionsthatareintendedtostopleaks.Useoftheseproducts mayresultinenginedamage.
Caterpillarrecommendsthatthecoolantmixturecontaina minimumof30%CaterpillarAntifreeze,orequivalent.
Thecoolingsystemshouldbeprotectedwithaminimumof3% concentrationofliquidsupplementalcoolingadditiveatall times,regardlessoftheconcentrationofantifreeze.
Iftheengineistobestoredin,orshippedto,anareawith freezingtemperatures,thecoolingsystemmustbeprotectedto thelowestexpectedoutside(ambient)temperature.
NOTICE
Caterpillarrecommendsacoolantmixcomprisingaminimum of30%CaterpillarAntifreezewithdistilledordeionizedwater. Antifreezeconcentrationshouldprovideprotectiontothe lowestexpectedoutside(ambient)temperature.
Checkthespecificgravityoftheantifreezesolutionfrequently incoldweathertoensureadequatefreezeprotection.Premix coolantsolutiontoprovideprotectiontothelowestexpected outside(ambient)temperature.Pureundilutedantifreezewill freezeat-23°C(-10°F).
Donotexceedacoolantmixtureof60%antifreezetowater sinceaconcentrationabove60%antifreezewillreducethe engine'sfreezeprotection,andincreasethepossibilityof depositformationinthecoolingsystemduetofailuretoabsorb thehigherconcentrationofsupplementaladditive.
NOTICE
Ifpropyleneglycolbasedantifreezeisused,DONOTallow concentrationgreaterthan50/50antifreezetowatermixture. Themeasurementmustbemadewitharefractive-typetester (5P0957or5P3514CoolantTester),ratherthancommercially availablehydrometer-typetesters.Thehydrometertypecanbe usedfortestingethyleneglycolbasedantifreezemixtures.
NOTICE
Neveruseanantifreeze/watercoolantonly,inCaterpillar engines.Supplementaladditivesmustbeusedregardlessof theantifreezeconcentration.
Caterpillarorothermanufacturesproductscanbeusedasthe supplementaladditive.DonotmixCaterpillarSupplemental Additive(conditioner)liquidorelementswiththeother commercialproductsavailable;selectacoolingsystem treatmentanduseitexclusively.
Excessiveconcentrationofsupplementalcoolantadditivecan formdepositswhichmaycauseenginedamage,reducethe enginesheattransfercharacteristicsandcouldalsoaccelerate waterpumpsealwear.
