Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

2. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) and cable assemblies (2). Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (4). The weight of electric starting motor (4) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Remove bolts (3). Remove electric starting motor (4) from the right side of the engine.

3. Disconnect harness assembly (5) and harness assembly (6). Disconnect cable assemblies (7). Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (8). The weight of electric starting motor (8) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Remove bolts (9). Remove electric starting motor (8) from the left side of the engine.

1. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (8). The weight of electric starting motor (8) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Position electric starting motor (8) on the left side of the engine. Install bolts (9). Connect harness assembly (6) and harness assembly (5). Connect cable assemblies (7).

2. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (4). The weight of electric starting motor (4) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Position electric starting motor (4) on the right side of the engine. Install bolts (3). Connect cable assemblies (2) and harness assemblies (1).

Removal Procedure
1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

2. Remove the V-belt from the engine.

3. Disconnect cable assembly (2). Remove bolt (1). Disconnect ground strap (4). Disconnect harness assembly (3). Remove bolts (5). Remove guard (7). Remove alternator (6).

4. Remove bolts (8) and bracket (9).

1. Position bracket (9) and install bolts (8).

2. Position alternator (6). Position guard (7) and install bolts (5). Connect harness assembly (3). Connect ground strap (4). Install bolt (1). Connect cable assembly (2).
3. Install the V-belt on the engine.

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal at the battery.

2. Loosen allen head screw (1). Disconnect the harness assembly from electronic control module (3).
3. Remove bolts (4). Remove electronic control module (3) and ground strap (2).
4. Remove the washers and the isolation mounts from electronic control module (3).

1. Position the isolation mounts on electronic control module (3). Position the spacers, the washers, ground strap (2) and electronic control module (3) on the support assemblies. Install bolts (4).
2. Connect the harness assembly to electronic control module (3). Tighten allen head screw (1) to a torque of 6 ± 1 N·m (53 ± 9 lb in).
3. Connect the negative battery terminal at the battery.

Required Tools
Start By:
a. Remove the vibration damper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove and Install".

1. Remove bolts (2) and adapter (3).
2. Use Tooling (A) and suitable cribbing in order to support the engine. Support the engine on the front edge of the oil pan.
3. Remove two bolts (1). Install Tooling (B). Remove remaining bolts (1).
4. Attach a suitable lifting device to support assembly (4). The weight of support assembly (4) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Remove support assembly (4) from Tooling (B).

5. Remove bracket (6), bolts (5), and engine trunnion (7).

1. Use Tooling (A) and suitable cribbing in order to support the engine. Support the engine on the front edge of the oil pan.

2. Position engine trunnion (7) on the engine. Install bolts (5) and bracket (6).

3. Install Tooling (B) on the engine.
4. Attach a suitable lifting device to support assembly (4). The weight of support assembly (4) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Position support assembly (4) on Tooling (B).
5. Install bolts (1). Remove Tooling (B). Install remaining bolts (1).
6. Remove Tooling (A) and the suitable cribbing.
7. Position adapter (3) and install bolts (2).
End By:
a. Install the vibration damper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove and Install".

2. Remove inlet air temperature sensor (1) from the inlet manifold.
3. Remove the O-ring seal from inlet air temperature sensor (1).
Installation Procedure
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

1. Install a new O-ring seal on inlet air temperature sensor (1).
2. Install inlet air temperature sensor (1) into the inlet manifold and tighten to a torque of 20 ± 5 N·m (15± 4 lb ft).
3. Connect harness assembly (2).
