Dozing

StraightDozing:Ifthebladedigsinandtherearofthetractorrises,raisebladetocontinueeven cut.Whenmovingaheavyloadcausestravelspeedtodrop,shifttoalowergearand/orraisethe bladeupslightly.

NOTE:Whendoingfinishingorlevelingwork,afullbladehandleseasierthanapartiallyloaded blade.

SlotDozing:Thisallowslargerloadstobecarriedinfrontoftheblade.Itisusedinstockpiling andhighproductionbulldozing.

TiltDozerDitching:Tiltbladeandworkwithlowsideinditchcenter.Levelbladewhenrequired depthandslopearereached.

StraightDozerBackfilling:Pushata90°angletoditch.

StraightDozerDitching:Tiltbladetocutshallow"V"ditches.Forlargerditches,dozeatright anglestocenterlineofditch.Whendesireddepthisreached,dozelengthofditchtosmoothsides andbottom.

PushLoading

1.Positionbulldozercuttingedgeslightlyabovegroundlevel.

2.Tractorshouldmatchtravelspeedofscraperjustascontactismade.

3.Contactpushblocksquarely.Don'tallowbladeorpushplatetocontactscrapertires. PutbladecontrolleverinFLOATpositiontoallowbladetofollowscraperpushblock.

4.Donotliftrearofscraperofftheground.

5.Upshifttractorwhencutiscompletetohelpscrapergetmoving.

NOTICE

Bladeinfloatmaydrop.Putbladecontrolleverinaslightraise positionbeforeleavingscraper.

FollowadviceoftheCaterpillardealer'ssalesdepartmentonuseof tandempushing.

Inthewrongsoilconditions,thetremendousavailablepowercouldcauseveryextensivedamage tothebowlorshankofthevehiclebeingpushed.

Equipthetractorsproperlyfortandempushing.

AdjustableRipper

Theangleoftheshankcanbevaried,whileripping,toachievemaximumperformancethroughout eachrippingpass.

Toinserttheripperintothematerialtoberipped,adjusttheangleoftheshankbeyondvertical positiontogivethecorrecttipangleforeasyentryintothematerial.Anglewilldifferdepending uponmaterialbeingripped.

Lowerripperintothematerialwhilemovingforward.Whendesiredrippingdepthisreached, movethetipforwardtoobtainthecorrectangleforbestperformance.Thisisusuallybetween verticalandforwardpositionsofshank.

Shallowrippingisrecommendedwhenmaterialistoberemovedbyascraperorloader.

Deeprippingisrecommendedwhenmaterialistoberemovedbyanexcavator.

Usethepropershankholetoproviderequiredclearancebetweenthegroundandthebeam.The shankmaybepositionedforshallowrippingaswellasdeepripping.

Ripping

UseFIRSTspeedformostrippingoperations.Itisbettertouseadditionalshanks,wherepractical, ratherthantoincreasespeed.

Usepartthrottletocontroltrackslippageinrock.

Alwaysusecentershankwhenrippingwithoneshank.Ifmaterialbreaksupsatisfactorily,more shanksmaybeused.

Crossriponlywhennecessarytogetsatisfactoryfracture.

Whenrippingforscraperloading,ripinsamedirectionthatscraperswillload.

NOTE:Ripdownhillwheneverpossible.

NOTICE

Donotturnorbacktractorwhileshanksareintheground.Twisting strainontheshanksandtipsmaycausefailure. Inspectrippertipsandshankprotectorsfrequently,forexcessivewear. Ripasdeeplyaspossiblein1stgear.Donotraiseripperandripin2ndgear.

Keepseveralinchesofmaterialontopoftheunrippedformationtocushionthemachineand providetraction.

Whenfinalmaterialsizemustberelativelysmall,closespacedpassesarerecommended.

PackedSoil,HardPan,Clay,ShaleorCementedGravel

Threeshanksworkwellinthesematerials.Useasmanyshanksaspossibletobreakmaterialto desiredsize,withoutstallingorhangingupthemachine.

RockwithFractures,FaultsandPlanesofWeakness

Usetwoshankswhererockbreaksoutinsmallpieces,andthemachinecanhandlethejobeasily. Whenmachinebeginstostallortracksstarttospin,useonlythecentershank.

Useoneshankintough-to-ripmaterial,orinmaterialthattendstobreakoutinlargeslabsor pieces.

Alwaysusecentershankwhenone-shankripping.

RipperTipsandShankProtector

Haverippertipsandshankprotectorreplacedbeforewearontherippershankoccurs.

NOTICE

Tracksshouldbeadjustedunderthesameconditionsthatthemachine willbeused.Thatis,ifpackingconditionsprevailonthejob,thetracks shouldbeadjustedwiththepackingpresent.

CuttingEdgesandEndBits

2.MovetransmissioncontrollevertoNEUTRAL.

3.PushTRANSMISSIONCONTROLLOCK/PARKINGBRAKELOCKLEVERDOWNto locktransmissionleverinNEUTRALandapplyparkingbrake.

4.Lowerallraisedequipmenttoground.Applyslightdownpressure.

StoppingtheEngine

1.Operateatreducedloadfor5minutes.

NOTICE

Damagetoturbochargermayresultifengineisstoppedwithout allowingittocool.

2.Stoptractorandpushgovernorcontrollevertolowidle(detentposition)for30seconds.

3.Pushgovernorcontrolpastdetent,tostopengine.

NOTE:Theaudiblealarmshouldsoundmomentarily.Theindicatormayflash(comeonandoff) momentarily.

ThefuelpressureindicatorlightwillcomeonuntildisconnectswitchisturnedOFF.

4.Afterenginestops,turndisconnectswitchtoOFFandremovekey.

6.Movegovernorcontrollevertodesiredenginespeed.

NOTE:Ifmachineisinoperable,andmustbemoved,contactyourCaterpillardealertoassistin movingthemachine.

Specialtoolingisrequiredtoreleasethebrakesonthemachine.Themachinecannotbemoved withthebrakesapplied.BrakesareintheONpositionwhenengineisOFF.

ToChangeForward/ReverseDirection

NOTE:Gearanddirectionalshiftsatfullenginespeedarepermissible.However,foroperator comfortandmaximumservicelifeofpowertraincomponents,deceleratingand/orbrakingis recommended.

1.Decreaseenginespeedbypushinggovernorcontrolin,orpushingdecelerator.

MovetransmissionlevertoNEUTRAL.

4.Shifttransmissiontodesireddirectionandspeed.

5.Releasebrakepedal.

6.Increaseenginespeedbyreleasingdeceleratorpedal,orpullingbackongovernorlever. NormalSteering

GradualRIGHTturn-Releaserightsteeringclutchbypullinglevertowarddetent.

3.Pushbrakepedal.

GradualLEFTturn-Releaseleftsteeringclutchbypullinglevertowarddetent.

3.Spraystartingfluidfor1second,intopre-cleaner,whilecrankingengine.Waitatleast2seconds beforesprayingstartingfluidagain.

NOTE:WhenenginestartsitmaybenecessarytoreturnHEAT-STARTswitchtoHEATuntil enginerunssmoothly.

StartingWithExternalElectricalSource-PrimaryMethod

NOTICE

Useajumpercablewithaplugthatwillmatewiththeemergencystart receptacle.

BesuredisconnectswitchisintheOFFpositionandkeyremoved beforeinsertingplugintostartingreceptacle.

Jumpercableshouldbeattachedtoexternalstartingsourcebefore insertingplugintostartingreceptacleofmachinetobestarted.

The8S2632PlugAssemblyis10feetlongandhasmalereceptacleconnectionsononeendand spadeterminalsforbatterycartontheother.

The9S3664PlugAssemblyis15feetlongandhasmalereceptacleconnectionsonbothends.This assemblypermitsstartingonetractorwithanothertractor,whenbothhavestartingreceptacles.
