1. Clean the deposits of glue from aftercooler core (9) in order to install new seals (11). Install new seals (11) .

2. Apply Tooling (B) to new O-ring seals (10). Install O-ring seals (10) onto aftercooler core (9) .

3. Align the notch in aftercooler core (9) with the pin on the aftercooler housing. Carefully install aftercooler core (9) into the aftercooler housing.

4. Apply Tooling (B) to new O-ring seal (7). Install O-ring seal (7). Install new seal (8) for the divider.

5. Position bonnet (6) with the marks that were made during the disassembly procedure. Install bonnet (6). Install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

6. Apply Tooling (B) to new O-ring seal (4). Install O-ring seal (4) .

7. Position bonnet (1) with the marks that were made during the disassembly procedure. Install bonnet (1). Install bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 45 N·m (33 lb ft). Apply Tooling (C) to the threads of zinc rod (2). Install zinc rod (2). Tighten zinc rod (2) to a torque of 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
End By: Install the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Install".

1. Lubricate all O-ring seals with Tooling (A) prior to assembly of the aftercooler.

3. Carefully install aftercooler core (11) in aftercooler (3) .

8. Position bonnet (2) on the aftercooler. Align dowel (6) with the hole in the aftercooler core and with the hole in the aftercooler.

Start By:
A. Remove the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove".
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Mark the orientation of bonnet (1) to the aftercooler housing for assembly purposes. Remove zinc rod (2). Remove bolts (3). Remove bonnet (1) .

Note: Do not hold the aftercooler in the vertical position. In the vertical position, the aftercooler core may slide out of the aftercooler housing.
5. Carefully remove aftercooler core (9) from the aftercooler housing. Support aftercooler core (9) at all times during the removal process.

6. Remove O-ring seals (10) from each end of aftercooler core (9) .

1. Install heater (14) and install new gasket (13) .

2. Attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (12) . The weight of aftercooler (12) is approximately 75 kg (165 lb).
3. Position aftercooler (12) on the engine and install bolts (10) . Hand tighten the bolts.
4. Apply Tooling (A) to plugs (8) and (11) . Install the O-ring seals and the plugs.
5. Install hose (9) and hose assembly (7) .

6. Install the switch shown in Illustration 5. Tighten blots (10) to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).

1. Drain the aftercooler into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

2. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) and (2) . Remove the switch. Disconnect harness assembly (3) .
3. Remove clips (5) . Remove hoses (4) and (6) .

4. Remove hose assembly (7) and hose (9) .

5. Remove plugs (8) , (11) , and the O-ring seals.
6. Attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (12) . The weight of aftercooler (12) is approximately 75 kg (165 lb).
7. Remove bolts (10) and aftercooler (12) .
Note: Note the length and location of bolts (10) for installation purposes.
