Alternator-Inspect

Caterpillarrecommendsascheduledinspectionofthealternator.Inspectthealternatorforloose connectionsandproperbatterycharging.Inspecttheammeter(ifequipped)duringengine operationinordertoensureproperbatteryperformanceand/orproperperformanceofthe electricalsystem.Makerepairs,asrequired.RefertotheServiceManual.
Checkthealternatorandthebatterychargerforproperoperation.Ifthebatteriesareproperly charged,theammeterreadingshouldbeverynearzero.Allbatteriesshouldbekeptcharged.The batteriesshouldbekeptwarmbecausetemperatureaffectsthecrankingpower.Ifthebatteryistoo cold,thebatterywillnotcranktheengine.Thebatterywillnotcranktheengine,evenifthe engineiswarm.Whentheengineisnotrunforlongperiodsoftimeoriftheengineisrunfor shortperiods,thebatteriesmaynotfullycharge.Abatterywithalowchargewillfreezemore easilythanabatterywithafullcharge.

7.Connectthenegativebatterycableatthebatterydisconnectswitch.
8.Installthekeyforthebatterydisconnectswitch.TurnthekeytotheONposition.
