Safety Messages
The warning film in Illustration 1 can be found in a location such as the dash. The warning film will be clearly visible to the operator during the normal operation of the machine.
This machine is equipped with a Caterpillar Product Link communication device. When electric detonators are used, this communication device should be deactivated within 12 m (40 ft) of a blast site, or within the distance mandated under applicable legal requirements. Failure to do so could cause interference with blasting operations and result in serious injury or death.

Operation in a Blast Site for Product Link Radios
This equipment is equipped with a Cat® Product Link communication device. When electric detonators are being used for blasting operations, radio frequency devices can cause interference with electric detonators for blasting operations which can result in serious injury or death. The Product Link communication device should be deactivated within the distance mandated under all applicable national or local regulatory requirements. In the absence of any regulatory requirements Caterpillar recommends the end user perform their own risk assessment to determine safe operating distance.

After Starting the Engines

Be sure all gauges are in the normal operating range. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
Check the tractor transmission oil level with the engine running at low idle.
Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks on the sight gauge.
Check the tractor engine oil level between shifts with the engine running if it is not to be stopped
Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks on the LOW IDLE side of the dipstick.
Check the scraper transmission oil level. Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks on the sight gauge.
Check the scraper engine oil level between shifts with the engine running if it is not to be stopped
Maintain the oil level in the area indicated on the LOW IDLE side of the dipstick.
Operate the engines at low idle until the hydraulic oil is warm.
Test the hydraulic controls. Allow extra warmup time if they are sluggish.

Before Starting the Engines
Walk-Around
Inspection

For personal safety and maximum service life of the machine, it is important to make a thorough walk -around inspection of the following machine areas before starting the engines.
Look around and under the machine for such items as loose or missing bolts, trash buildup, and oil, fuel or coolant leaks. Inspect the condition and inflation of the tires, condition of the bowl, hitch, draft arms and hydraulic components.
Tractor
1. Inspect the tires for damage and proper inflation. See "Tire Inflation Information."
2. Inspect the condition and cleanliness of steps and handholds. Repair and clean steps and handholds if necessary.
3. Inspect the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) for bent, cracked or damaged structure and for loose mounting bolts. A bent, cracked or damaged ROPS should be replaced.
4. Inspect the tractor engine compartment for oil, fuel and coolant leaks. Look for trash buildup. Stop any leaks and remove all trash.
5. Inspect the tractor air cleaner elements if the piston in the air cleaner indicator shows red.
6. Inspect the tractor radiator core and the guard for dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris.
7. Inspect the tractor engine compartment for loose, damaged or missing spray shields. Make repairs as necessary.
8. Inspect the air inlet screen for dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris.
9. Inspect the hydraulic and fuel tanks for cracks, leaks and missing bolts. Make repairs as necessary.
10. Inspect the differential and final drives for leaks. Stop any leaks.
11. Inspect the transmission for leaks. Stop any leaks.
12. Inspect the hitch components for cracks in castings, worn pin joints and damaged stops. Make repairs as necessary.
13. Inspect the hydraulic tubes and hoses for loose clamps and mounting bolts. Inspect for worn or frayed hoses. Make repairs as necessary.
14. Inspect the steering linkage for cracks and worn or damaged components. Make repairs as necessary.
15. Inspect the draft frame gooseneck and cross tube for cracks, damage or distortion. Inspect for loose or missing draft arm mounting bolts. Make repairs as necessary.
16. Inspect the bowl for damage or distortion. Make repairs as necessary.
17. Inspect the draft arms for cracks or distortion. The clearance between the draft arm wear plate and the sides of the bowl should be .76 to 3.00 mm (.03 to .12 in). Make repairs as necessary.
18. Inspect the ejector for damage or distortion. Make repairs as necessary.
19. Inspect the cutting edges for wear, damage or missing bolts. Make repairs as necessary.
20. Inspect the scraper differential and final drives for leaks. Stop any leaks.
