Note:Donotturntheadapterwhenyouremovethebreather.

2.Washthebreatherincleannonflammablesolvent.Wipethebreatherdryandcheckthebreather fordamage.

3.Installthecleanbreatherbackintotheaxle.Replacethebreatherifthebreatherisdamaged.

Thebackupalarmshouldimmediatelysound.Thebackupalarmwillcontinuetosounduntilthe transmissiondirectioncontrolleverismovedtotheNEUTRALpositionortotheFORWARD position.

1.TurntheenginestartswitchtotheOFFposition.TurnallswitchestotheOFFposition.

2.Disconnectthenegativebatterycablefromtheframe.

Note:Donotallowthedisconnectedbatterycabletocontacttheframeofthemachine.

3.Disconnectthenegativebatterycableatthebattery.

4.Inspectthebatteryterminalsandinspectthebatterycables.Keeptheterminalscleanandkeep theterminalscoatedwithpetroleumjelly.

5.Performthenecessaryrepairs.Replacethecableorthebattery,asneeded.

6.Connectthenegativebatterycableatthebattery.

7.Connectthebatterycabletotheframeofthemachine.

8.Installtheenginestartswitchkey.

Belts-Inspect/Adjust/Replace

SMCS-1357-025;1357-040;1357-510

Ifnewbeltsareinstalled,checkbeltadjustmentafter30minutesofoperation.Formultiplebeltdrive applications,alwaysreplacethebeltsinmatchedsets.Replacingonlyonebeltofamatchedsetwill causethenewbelttocarrymoreloadbecausetheolderbeltsarestretched.Theadditionalloadonthe newbeltcouldcausethenewbelttobreak.

1.Emptythebucket.Removethepinthatsecuresthebracefortheloaderliftarmtotheleftloader liftarm.Raisetheloaderarmtothemaximumheight.

2.Positionthebracefortheloaderliftarmovertheleftliftcylinderrodwiththeflatendagainst thecylinderend.

3.Pushthepinthroughtheholesofthebracefortheloaderliftarmandinstallthecotterpin.

4.Slowlylowertheloaderarmsuntilthebracefortheloaderliftarmcontactsthetopofthelift cylinderandthebossesontheloaderarm.

5.Stoptheengineinordertoinspectthebelts.

6.Removetheengineaccesspanelontheleftsideofthemachine.

7.Inspecttheconditionoftheairconditionerbeltandtheadjustmentoftheairconditionerbelt. Theairconditionerbeltshoulddeflect10mm(0.38inch)under110N(25lb)offorce.

8.Loosentheadjustinglocknut(1).Loosenthecompressorbracketmountingbolt(2).

9.Movethecompressoruntilthecorrectbelttensionisreached.

10.Tightentheadjustinglocknut(1).Tightenthecompressorbracketmountingbolt(2).

11.Recheckthebeltdeflection.Iftheamountofdeflectionisincorrect,repeatStep8toStep10.

12.Installtheengineaccesspanel.

13.Removetheengineaccesspanelontherightsideofthemachine.

14.Inspecttheconditionofthealternatorbeltsandtheadjustmentofthealternatorbelts.The alternatorbeltsshoulddeflect10mm(0.38inch)under110N(25lb)offorce.

15.Loosenthemountingbolt(3).Loosentheadjustinglocknut(4).

16.Movethealternatoruntilthecorrecttensionisreached.

17.Tightentheadjustinglocknut(4).Tightenthemountingbolt(3).

18.Recheckthebeltdeflection.Iftheamountofdeflectionisincorrect,repeatStep15toStep17.

19.Installtheengineaccesspanel.

20.Starttheengine.Raisetheloaderarmstothemaximumheight.

21.Removethepinandreplacethebracefortheloaderliftarmtothestoredpositionontheloader liftarm.

22.Lowerthebuckettotheground.

Checktheareaaroundthemachine.Makesurethatthemachineisclearofpersonnelandclearof obstacles.

Testthebrakesonadry,levelsurface.

Fastentheseatbeltbeforeyoutestthebrakes.

Thefollowingtestsareusedtodetermineiftheservicebrakeisfunctional.Thesetestsarenot intendedtomeasurethemaximumbrakeholdingeffort.Thebrakeholdingeffortthatisrequiredto sustainamachineataspecificenginerpmvariesdependingonthemachine.Thevariationsarethe differencesintheenginesetting,inthepowertrainefficiency,andinthebrakeholdingability,etc.

1.Starttheengine.Raisethebucketslightly.

2.Applytheservicebrake.Releasetheparkingbrake.

3.Ifthemachineisequippedwiththestandardtransmission,movethetransmissionspeedshift levertoTHIRDgear.MovethetransmissiondirectioncontrollevertoFORWARD,to NEUTRAL,andbacktoFORWARD.Ifthemachineisequippedwithapowershift transmissionmovethetransmissioncontrollevertoFOURTHSPEEDFORWARD,to NEUTRAL,andbacktoFOURTHSPEEDFORWARD.Thisisdoneinordertooverridethe transmissionneutralizerforthistest.

Note:Placemachinesthatareequippedwithallwheeldriveintotwo-wheeldrivemode.

4.Graduallyincreasetheenginespeedtohighidle.Themachineshouldnotmove.

Ifthemachinebeginstomove,reducetheenginespeedimmediatelyand engagetheparkingbrake.

5.Reducetheenginespeedtolowidle.MovethetransmissiontoNEUTRAL.Engagetheparking brake.Lowerthebuckettotheground.Stoptheengine.

NOTICE

Ifthemachinemovedwhiletestingthebrakes,contactyour Caterpillardealer.Havethedealerinspectand,ifnecessary,repairthe servicebrakebeforereturningthemachinetooperation.

4.Graduallyincreasetheenginespeedtohighidle.Themachineshouldnotmove.

Ifthemachinebeginstomove,reducetheenginespeedimmediatelyand applytheservicebrakepedal.

5.Reducetheenginespeed.MovethetransmissiontoNEUTRAL.Lowerthebuckettothe ground.Stoptheengine.

NOTICE

Ifthemachinemovedwhiletestingthebrakes,contactyour Caterpillardealer.

Havethedealerinspectand,ifnecessary,repairtheparkingbrakes beforereturningthemachinetooperation.

1.Raisethebucket.Placeablockunderthebucket.

2.Lowerthebuckettotheblocking.

Donotblockupthebuckettoohigh.Blockupthebucketsothatthebucketishighenoughto removethecuttingedgesandtheendbits.

3.Removethebolts.Removethecuttingedgeandtheendbits.

4.Cleanthecontactsurfaces.

5.Usetheoppositesideofthecuttingedge,ifthissideisnotworn.

6.Installanewcuttingedge,ifbothedgesareworn.

7.Installthebolts.Tightentheboltstothespecifiedtorque.

8.Raisethebucket.Removetheblocks.

9.Lowerthebuckettotheground.

5.Drivethepinthroughthebuckettip.Thepincanbeinstalledbyusingoneofthefollowing methods:

Fromtheothersideoftheretainer,drivethepinthroughthebuckettip,theadapter,and theretainer.

UseaPin-Master.FollowStep5.athroughStep5.efortheprocedure.

Note:Tocorrectlyinstallthepinintotheretainer,thepinmustbedriveninfromtherightside ofthetooth.Improperinstallationofthepincanresultinthelossofthebuckettip.

a.Insertthepinthroughthebuckettooth.

b.PlacethePin-Masteroverthebuckettoothandlocatethepinintheholeofholder(10).

c.Strikethetoolwithahammeratthebackofthetool(4)inordertostartthepin.

d.Slidepinholder(10)awayfromthepinandrotatethetoolslightlyinordertoalignpin setter(9)withthepin.

e.Striketheendofthetooluntilthepinisfullyinserted.

6.Afteryoudrivethepin,makesurethattheretainerfitssnuglyintothepingroove.
