Start By:
A. Remove the cooling system package enclosure.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are containedduring performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be preparedto collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for toolsand supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be causedif thispressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any componentsor lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine isstopped, and the filler cap iscool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helpsto keep contaminants from entering the system.

1. Loosen the clampsand position hoses (1) out of the way.

2. Remove panel (3) .

3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (3). The weight of aftercooler (3) is approximately 53 kg (117 lb).
4. Remove bolts (4) .

5. Remove bolt (5) and aftercooler (3) .
Installation Procedure
1. Install aftercooler (3) in the reverse order of the removal.

Alternator - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the refrigerant compressor.
1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFFposition. After installation of the refrigerant compressor, turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.

2. Disconnect harnessassemblies(1) and (2) .
3. Loosen clamp (3) and position hose (4) out of the way.

4. Remove bolts (5) and remove alternator (6) .
Installation Procedure
1. Install alternator (6) in the reverse order of removal.

10. Remove bolts (18), bolts (21), and bracket (19) .
11. Use two people to remove batteries (17). The weight of each battery (17) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).
Installation Procedure

1. Use two people to position batteries (17). The weight of each battery (17) isapproximately 36 kg (80 lb).
2. Install bracket (19), bolts (21), and bolts (18) .
3. Connect cable assemblies (15), (16), and (20) .

4. Install bolts (13) on both sides of tank assembly (14) .

8. Install cover (4) and screws (5) .
9. Turn battery disconnect switch (3) to the ON position.

7. Slide vibration damper (9) forward onto Tooling (A) .
8. Attach a suitable lifting device to vibration damper (9). The weight of vibration damper (9) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).
9. Remove Tooling (A) .
10. Use the suitable lifting device to remove vibration damper (9) from the bottom of the machine.
