B.MachinePrecautions
1.Carefullyevaluateyourapplication'sparticularsafetyneeds.Eachmachineapplicationcanhave uniquerequirements.Youmayneedsuchattachmentsas:rearwindshieldwipers,windshield washers,heater,defrosterfan,warninglights,airconditioning,grounddrivensteering,turn signals,SlowMovingVehiclesign,FOPS,mirrors,backupalarm,fireextinguisher,spark arrestor,firesuppressionsystem,cabscreens,soundsuppression,rotatingbeacon,additional lights,anti-vandalismattachments,guards,towhook,Lexanwindows,waterglycoland communicationradios.ConsultyourConstructionEquipmentDistributorforinformation.
2.Besurethemachinehasthecorrectequipmentrequiredbylocalrulesandregulations.
3.Arolloverprotectivestructure(ROPS)withaseatbeltisrequiredinalmostallapplications.DO NOToperatethismachinewithoutaROPS.
4.Itisrecommendedthatthemachinebeequippedwithafullychargedfireextinguisher.Personnel shouldbeinstructedinproperusage.Rechargeimmediatelyafteruse.

SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
8.Ifthemachineisequippedwithasuctionfan(orareversiblefaninthesuctionposition),check theengineexhaustsystemperiodicallyforleaks.Exhaustgasesaredangeroustotheoperator. Onmachinesequippedwithacab,keepaventopentooutsideair.
9.Keepshieldsandguardinplaceforyourprotection.Besuretoreplacethemafterservicingthe machine.
10.Afirst-aidkitshouldbeavailableincaseofaninjury.
11.Whentransportingthemachine,usecautionwhenloadingandunloadingit.Loadandunload themachineinalevelareawhichfullysupportsthemachineandtransportvehicle.Blockthe transportvehiclesoitcannotmove.Useloadingrampsofadequatestrength,lowangleand properheight.Keepthetrailerbedandthemachine'stirescleanofclay,oilandotherslippery materials.Lockthemachine'sframestogetherwiththeframelockingbarandpins.Applythe machine'sparkingbrake.Blockthetiresandsecurelytiedownthemachinetothetrailerbed.
2.OPERATION
A.BeforeStarting
1.Beforeenteringtheoperator'scompartment,walkcompletelyaroundthemachineandclearthe areaofpersonnelandobstructions.
2.Performavisualcheckofthemachinebeforestartingtheengine.Lookforsuchthingsas missingprotectivedevices,leaks,improperfluidlevels,trashbuildupandloose,damagedor missingparts.DONOTstarttheengineuntilanyunsafeconditionsarecorrected.
3.Beforeoperatingthemachine,checkthattheframelockingbarandpinsareinthestorage positionontherearframe.Abrokenorlostframelockingbarorpinsshouldbereplaced immediatelysothatthisdeviceisalwaysavailableforuse.
4.Besureallfillercaps,dipsticks,plugs,latches,servicedoors,etc.,aresecurebeforestarting.
5.BESUREtheoperator'scompartment,mountingstepsandhandholdsarefreeofoil,grease, snow,ice,mudandforeignobjectstoreducethepossibilityofslippingandinjury.Repairany damagedstepsorhandholds.Removeorsecureallmaintenanceandpersonalitemswhich mightinterferewiththeoperatororjamthecontrols.
6.Donotusethemachine'scontrolsorhosesashandholdswhenclimbingonoroffthemachine. Controlsandhosescanmoveanddonotprovidesolidsupport.Movementofthecontrolsmay causeunexpectedmachinemovementandinjury.
7.Understandallcontrolfunctionsbeforestartingtheengine.
8.Knowthealternateexitroutesfromtheoperator'scompartmentforuseinanemergency.
9.Theoperatormustbealert,physicallyfitandfreefromtheinfluencesofalcohol,drugsand medicationsthatmightaffecthiseyesight,hearingorreactions.
10.Safetymustalwaysbetheoperator'smostimportantconcern.Hemustrefusetooperatewhen heknowsitisunsafeandconsulthissupervisorwhensafetyisindoubt.
SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
B.Startup
1.Neverstarttheengineindoorsunlessproperexhaustventilationisprovidedtoremovedeadly exhaustgases.Openthebuildingdoorsbeforestartup.Oncetheengineisrunning,movethe machineoutdoorsassoonaspossible.Exhaustgasesarehazardousandcancause unconsciousnessanddeath.
2.Sitintheoperator'sseatbeforeoperatinganycontrols.Keephandsandfootwearfreeof grease,waterandmudtoinsurepositivecontrolmovement.
3.Beforestartingtheengine,orwhenmachineisstandingwiththeenginerunning:lockthe transmissionshiftleverinneutral(N),applytheparkingbrakeandloweranyraisedequipment.
4.DONOTSMOKEwhenusingtheetherinjector.Donotusetheetherinjectorwhenair temperatureisabovefreezing.Followthecorrectmethodforstartingtheengine.Referto "StartingtheEngine",intheOPERATOR'SMANUAL.
5.Beforedrivingthemachine,adjusttheseatbelt.Adjusttheseatformaximumcomfortand controlofthemachine.Adjusttheseatbelttofitsnuglyandlowaroundthehipstolessenthe chanceandseverityofinjuryintheeventofanaccident.Neverweartheseatbeltacrossthe abdomen.
6.UseoftheseatbeltwiththeROPSisstronglyrecommended.Intheeventofarollover,stay withthemachine.Experiencehasshownthiswillreducethechanceandseriousnessofinjury.
7.Beforemovingthemachine,checkthebrakes,steering,attachmentcontrolsandsafety devices.DONOToperatethemachineuntilanyunsafeconditionshavebeencorrected.
8.Donotshiftthemachineintogearunlessairpressuregaugereadsinthegreen"RUN"range. Lowairpressurecausesreducedbraking.
9.Beforemovingthemachine,soundthehorntowarnnearbypersonnel.
10.Releasetheparkingbrakebeforemovingthemachine.Thebrakecouldburnorbedamagedif themachineisdrivenwithitapplied.
11.Turnoffthedefrosterfanbeforeadjustingittoavoidinjury.
12.NEVERHAULPASSENGERS.Onlytheoperatorshouldbeonthemachinewhenitismoving. Besurethecabdoor(s)issecurelylatched.
13.Usecautionandfollowthemanufacturer'sinstructionswhenusingexternalheaterstowarmthe powertrainincoldweather.
C.GeneralOperatingPrecautions
1.Stayalertandawareofwhatyouaredoing.Usecommonsense.Donotoperatewhenfatigued orill.Knowyourmachineanditscapabilities.Usethemachineonlyforitsintendedpurpose. Foryoursafety,readtheOPERATOR'SMANUALcarefullyandfollowallinstructionsand precautions.
2.Provideproperventilationwhenoperatinginclosedareatominimizethedangerofexhaust gases.Exhaustgasesarehazardousandcancauseunconsciousnessanddeath.
3.Maintainclearvisionofallworkandtravelareas.Keepwindowsandmirrorcleanandrepaired. Useapolebrushwithcleanwater.
4.Lookintheintendedtraveldirectiontobesurepersonnelandalliedequipmentdonotinterfere withthemachine'sworkpattern.Donotoperateifexposedpersonnelentertheimmediatework area.
5.Turnonthemachine'slightsatnightandtimesofpoorvisibilitytoseeandbeseen.
6.DONOTadjusttheseatwhilethemachineismovingbecausealossofcontrolmayresult. Stopthemachine,applytheparkingbrakeandthenadjusttheseat.
7.Keephead,limbsandbodyinsidetheoperator'scompartmentatalltimesbecauseofthe chanceofbeinginjuredbyhazardsoutsidetheoperator'scompartment.
8.NEVERallowanyonenearthecenterarticulationpivot.Ifthemachineturned,theycouldbe crushed.
9.NEVERallowanyonetostandontheladderwhenthebucketisraisedorthemachineismoving orturningtopreventinjuryfromfalling,crushingorfromfallingmaterial.
10.NEVERgetonoroffthemachinewhileitismovingbecauseseriousinjuryordeathcouldresult.
11.Afterstartingandwhileoperating,observeinstrumentsandwarninglightsfrequently.Investigate anyunusualindicationsornoisesinthemachine.
12.Iftheenginehasatendencytostall,investigateimmediately.Donotoperatethemachineuntil thecausehasbeencorrected.
13.Ifnoiseexposureexceeds90dBAforeighthours,wearearprotectiveequipment,perlocal regulations.
D.DrivingtheMachine
1.Carrythebucketlowformaximumvisibilityandstabilitywhentraveling.
2.Beforeoperatinginareaswithoverheadobstructions,carefullycheckoverheadclearance. Obstructions,suchasguywires,powerlines,treebranches,bridgesandbuildingdoorscould causearolloveraccident.
3.Driveslowenoughtoinsurecompletecontrol.Slowdownwhentravelingincongestedareasor onmud,iceorotherslipperysurfaces.Keepasafedistanceawayfromothervehicles, accordingtotheloadandgroundconditions.
4.Avoidcrossingobstacles,suchasridges,curbs,logsandrocks.Ifyoucannotavoidthem, reducespeedandcrossatanangle.Easeuptothebreakoverpoint,passthebalancepoint slowlyandeasedownontheotherside.
SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
5.Crossditchesandgulliesslowlyandatanangleaftercheckingthatthegroundwillsafely supportthemachine.
6.Avoidsidehilltravelwheneverpossible.Drivestraightupanddownthehill.Ifthemachinestarts slippingsideways,turndownhillimmediately.
7.Stop,lookandlistenbeforeenteringahighway.Stayontherightsideoftheroad.Slowdown andsignalwhenturningoff.
8.Whenroadingthemachine,engagethehydraulicleverlockingplatetoguardagainstaccidental actuationofthelevers.Personalinjurycouldresultifthebucketcatchesonaledgeintheroad.
9.Donotusethetransmissiondisconnectbrakepedalwhentravelingfastorgoingdownhill becausethisshiftsthetransmissionintoneutral.Lossofcontrolordamagetothepowertrain couldresultwhenthepedalisreleasedandthetransmissionre-engages.
10.Nevershiftthetransmissionintoneutral(N)whentravelingdownhill.Themachinecouldgoout ofcontrolorthepowertraincouldbedamagedwhenthetransmissionisshiftedintogearagain.
11.Donotoverspeedtheengine.Excessivespeedscanbehazardousandharmfultothepower train.Selectthepropergearbeforestartingdownhill.Controlspeedwiththebrakes,engineand transmission.
12.Neverusethebucketasabrakeexceptinanemergency.Itmightcatchonthegroundand resultinpersonalinjury.
13.DONOT"pump"thebrakes.Repeatedlypressingandreleasingthebrakepedalmayreduce theoilpressureandresultinreducedbraking.
14.Ifthegrounddrivensteeringlightcomeson,IMMEDIATELYstopthemachineinasafeplace. Shutofftheengineandapplytheparkingbrake.Correctthecausebeforeoperatingagain.
15.Ifthebrakesystemwarninglightorbuzzercomesonduringoperation,IMMEDIATELYstopthe machineinasafeplace.Applytheparkingbrake.Correctthecausebeforeoperatingagain.
16.Ifthelowpressurewarninglightorbuzzercomeson,IMMEDIATELYstopthemachinein asafeplace.Applytheparkingbrake.Theparkingbrakecanbeusedtostopthemachineinan emergency.Correctthecausebeforeoperatingagain.
17.Knowthetrafficflowpatternofthejobsite.Obeyflagmen,signsandsignals.
18.Givetheright-of-waytoloadedmachines.Onnarroworhillyroads,loadedmachinesshould staynexttothehighwall.
19.Keepthemachineasclosetothesideoftheroadassafelypossibletoleaveroomfor oncomingandpassingvehicles.
20.Passothervehiclesonlywhentheroadisclearandthemachinehasenoughdistanceand reservepowertopass.
E.OperatingtheAttachments
1.Checktheworkareaforhazardousconditions.Bealertforsoftgroundconditions,especially whenworkingonslopes,neardrop-offsorexcavationsoronfillmaterial,whichcouldleadto suddentippingofthemachine.
2.Keeptheworkareafreefromobstructionsandassmoothaspossible.
3.Knowthelocationsofundergroundcables,watermains,gaslines,etc.Abrokengaslineor electricalcablecouldcausepersonalinjuryordeath.
4.Avoidoperatingtooclosetoanoverhang,deepditchorexcavationbecausethemachine's weightandvibrationmaycausetheedgetocollapseandresultinpersonalinjury.Ifthiscannot beavoided,useextracautionandfacethemachinetowardtheedgewhileoperating.
5.Avoidundercuttinghighbanksbecausethebankmaycavein.Rampupandremovethetop layersfirst.
6.Trucksshouldbeloadedfromthedriver'ssidewheneverpossible.Whenthetruckisbeing loaded,besurethedrivereitherstaysinthecab(oncab-protectedtrucks)orawayfromthe truckandloader.
7.Whenloadingtrucks,becarefulnottohitthetruckwiththeloaderoritsbucket.
8.Useextracautionwhenmovingwiththebucketraisedtominimizethechanceofmachine upset.
9.DONOTswingaloadovertheheadsofotherworkersoratruckcab.
10.Iftheloaderbeginsintipoverbecauseofanoverload,IMMEDIATELYlowerthebuckettoregain stability.
11.Thereisnosubstituteforgoodjudgementwhenworkingonaslope.Slopeoperationshouldbe limitedbygroundandtractionconditions,theloadbeingcarriedandthespeedofthemachine.
12.NEVERoperatesidewaysonasteepslopebecausearolloverandseriousinjurycouldresult.
13.UsingtheloadertocarrylargeobjectsthatdonotfitintothebucketisNOTrecommended.
Handlinglargeobjectscanbeextremelydangerousbecausetheobjectsmayrollorslidedown theboomsontotheoperator.Neverliftlargeobjectshigherthantheoperatorunlessthe machinehasadevicewhichpreventstheobjectsfromfallingbackontotheoperator.
14.Whenpushingovertrees,themachinemusthaveapprovedoperatorprotection.Backaway immediatelywhenthetreestartstofall.Useextremecarewhenpushingovertreeswithdead brancheswhichmayfall.Toreducethechancesofmachineupset,neverallowthemachineto climbuptherootstructure.
SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
F.Pulling/Towing
1.Foryoursafety,neverpushortowadisabledmachinefartherthanabsolutelynecessarytoload itontoatruck.
2.Whenusingachainorcable,besureitisstrongenoughfortheexpectedloadandproperly securedtothedrawbarpin.
3.Hitchonlytothedrawbarpin-NEVERHIGHER.Machineupsetcanresultifpullingfromthe wronglocation.
4.Whenpulling,positionthemachinesothatthechainorcablealignswiththelongaxisofthe machine.
5.Inspectchainsandcableforflawsbeforeusing.Avoidkinking.Donotpullwithakinkedchainor cablebecausethehighstressescouldcauseafailureinthekinkedarea.Wearheavygloves whenhandlingchainorcable.
6.Whenpullingwithachainorcable,takeuptheslackslowlytoavoidjerking.Achainorcable whichfailsunderloadcanwhipandcauseseriousinjury.STANDCLEAR.DONOTPULLOR TOWUNLESSTHEOPERATOR'SCOMPARTMENTISGUARDEDAGAINSTOROUTOF REACHOFAWHIPPINGCHAINORCABLE.
G.Shutdown
1.Neverleavethemachinewiththeenginerunningorthebucketraised.Whenparkingthe machine,shutofftheengine,lowerthebuckettotheground,lockthetransmissionshiftleverin neutral(N),applytheparkingbrake,turnofftheelectricalsystemmasterswitchandremovethe key.
2.Raisedboomswilldropwheneverthecontrolleverismovedto"LOWER"or"FLOAT",even withtheengineoff.ALWAYSlowertheboomswhenparkingthemachine.
3.Iftheloaderisequippedwithamulti-purposebucket,closetheclambeforedismounting.
4.Parkthemachineinanon-trafficarea.Ifparkingintrafficlanescannotbeavoided,provide appropriateflags,barriers,flaresandwarningsignals.Alsoprovideadvancewarningsignalsin thetrafficlaneforapproachingtraffic.
5.Avoidparkingonaslopebecauseunexpectedmachinemovementmayoccur.Ifnecessaryto parkonaslope,parkatarightangletotheslopeandblockthetires.
6.Alwayslockthemachine,includinganyanti-vandalismattachments,whenleaving itunattended.
3.MAINTENANCE
A.GeneralMachinePrecautions
1.Constantlybeawareofdangersinvolvedinworkingonthemachineandtakeproper precautions.Itisnotpossibletoanticipateallconceivablewaysorconditionsunderwhichthis machinemaybeservicedortoprovideprecautionsforallthepossiblehazardsthatmayresult. Safetyisalwaysthemostimportantrule.Standardandacceptedsafetyprecautionsand equipmentshouldbeused.
2.Donotattemptrepairsyoudonotunderstand.ConsultyourConstructionEquipment Distributorforinformationandservice.
3.NEVERruntheenginewhencleaningorlubricatingthemachinebecauseseriousinjurycould resultfromcontactingmovingparts.
4.Beforeservicingthemachine,BESUREtheengineisoff,thebucketislowered,the transmissionshiftleverislockedinneutral(N),theparkingbrakeisappliedandtheelectrical systemmasterswitchisoffandthekeyisremoved.Tagthemachineperlocalregulations.
5.Beforeworkingontheengineorelectricalsystem,disconnectthenegative(ground)battery cable.Tagthecableandcontrolstowarnagainststarting.
6.Beforeworkingunderthemachine,blockthetirestopreventmachinemovement.
7.ALWAYSlocktheframestogetherbeforeworkingnearthecenterofthemachine.Iftheframes move,seriousinjuryordeathcouldresult.
8.NEVERstandnearthebucketortireswhiletheengineisrunning.
9.Duringservicing,DONOTallowanyoneintheoperator'scompartmentwhoisnottrainedand assistingintheservicing.
10.Whenitisnecessarytomakeanychecksoradjustmentswiththeenginerunning,usetwo people.Atrainedoperatormustbeatthecontrolstosafeguardthemechanicmakingthe checksoradjustments.BESUREthetransmissionshiftleverislockedinneutral(N),the parkingbrakeisappliedandtheframesarelockedtogether.
11.BESUREtheenginehoodoraccessdoor(s)issecuredintheopenpositionduringservice workintheenginecompartment.Unexpectedclosingcouldcauseinjury.
12.NEVERremoveanyguardsorshieldswiththeenginerunningbecauseofthedangerof contactingrotatingparts.
13.Whenservicerequiresaccesstoareasthatcannotbereachedfromthegroundoraservice platformonthemachine,usealadderorplatformwhichmeetsproperrequirements.
14.Useonlyapprovedpartsforrepairsandmaintenance.Failuretodosocouldcompromise personalsafety,machineperformanceandreliability.
15.Thismachineisassembledusinghighstrengthfasteners.Replacementfastenersmustbeof thesamesizeandstrengthastheoriginals.DONOTSUBSTITUTE.RefertothePARTS CATALOGforthismachine.Tightenfastenerstothepropertorque.RefertoSTANDARD TORQUESinthisSection.
