When Gary Farmer talks about HeartGift, he describes it as pure—an act of healing, direct impact, and simply doing good in the world for the most vulnerable children. When he first learned about the children HeartGift serves—young lives hanging in the balance, needing just one life-saving surgery but lacking access to specialized care—he was deeply moved. As a devoted father, Gary could not imagine facing a life-or-death situation for one of his own children and being unable to find the help they needed.
So Gary stepped up in a big way. For the past 15 years, he has faithfully supported HeartGift through generous giving and tireless advocacy, sharing the organization’s mission with countless others and helping fuel its growth so more children can be served. For children in countries lacking specialized medical care, one surgery changes everything.
Every five minutes, a child is born with a life-threatening heart defect. Over 1 million each year.
Ninety percent of these children lack access to the specialized medical care they need to save their lives. They live in rural areas of poverty-stricken, developing countries where access to necessary medical care is limited at best. If medical care does exist, it is financially inaccessible. Without help, these children will die.
But access to corrective heart surgery changes everything. It transforms lives. Children who once faced a future of limitations are suddenly given the chance to grow, reach milestones, and embrace a world full of opportunities. With their health restored, they can experience childhood as it was meant to be—full of joy, learning, and play.
