A MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP This year marked 18 years of life-saving impact to the children we serve from around the world that are in need of a congenital heart repair. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have worked diligently to expand our outreach to strengthen our programs and services. Thank you for making 2018 yet another remarkable year for HeartGift!
The efforts of the Foundation Board of Directors, in partnership with the chapter Community Impact Boards, had a collective goal to increase awareness and maintain relationships which has helped provide many opportunities this year. For example, the HeartGift Louisiana chapter increased its capacity to serve 12 children a year, cooperation with medical teams allowed for expanded work in Bolivia and because of our valued relationships and partners, we saw a growth in our fundraising efforts. Thank you for passionately being a part of HeartGift. We are looking forward to much more in 2019!

As incoming Board Chair, it is my mission to honor the vision of our co-founders, John "Chip" Oswalt M.D. and Ray Wilkerson. Over the past 18 years, Chip and Ray have created a Foundation that has saved the lives of over 400 children from around the world, funded medical missions to other countries, transformed the lives of many families and restored hope where there was none.
Looking forward, HeartGift will expand our efforts to include more medical mission trips, while continuing to focus on the growth of our existing chapter structure. With the ongoing support of our donors, partners, board and volunteers, HeartGift is ready for the challenges and achievements ahead.

HOW IT WORKS RESOURCES The unique HeartGift model assembles donated funds, donated medical services and volunteer support into concrete life-saving gifts for children.
HeartGift pays a fee to the hospitals to offset costs of a surgery. Doctors donate their services and volunteers from the community host the child and a caregiver during their stay.

STEP FIVE

The child goes home happy and healthy!
STEP FOUR The child undergoes life-saving heart surgery with a world renowned medical team.
STEP THREE The host family provides a warm loving home to the child and their caregiver as well as assisting them to the doctor appointments preparing for surgery.
STEP TWO The child is flown to the United States from their native country with a caregiver to stay with a host family.
STEP ONE After very careful consideration, a child is selected by our medical committee.

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the foundation. Without the dedication of all of our volunteers, host families, surgeons, nurses, dentists and many more, HeartGift would not be able to save as many children.

MEET CEDRIC Cedric is a 7 year-old little boy from the Philippines who was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect (CHD) when he was 8 months old. After noticing difficulties in his ability to catch his breath and not being able to walk more than a few steps without stopping, his parents took him to a doctor. It was then he Cedric, Philippines
was diagnosed with CHD, but
there was no help for him in his home country. His mother, Ana May learned of HeartGift and after a review of his case, Cedric was accepted into HeartGift. In November of 2018, he had his life-saving surgery in Austin, TX. His recovery was quick and transformative. Going from relying on his mother to carry him everywhere to running and playing. He and Ana May are back home in the Philippines and he is continuing to get stronger every day. On December 31st, he celebrated his 7th birthday and just a few months later he was able to start school!

MEDICAL MISSIONS This year, HeartGift continued it’s efforts to expand our mission by partnering with medical professionals performing work in-country; specifically, in Bolivia. The trip allowed us to impact and save the lives of 21 children. Additionally, we are forging new relationships in Kenya, Panama and Mexico. By allocating resources towards medical mission trips, it allows us to expand our life-saving efforts, create new partnerships and make a greater impact on the lives we serve.

2018 ACHIEVEMENTS BECAUSE OF YOU... We served 37 children domestically in 2018, and over 419 children to date.
After two years of successful medical mission trips to Bolivia we have saved 42 children.
Financial support from our donors and communities increased allowing us to serve more children.
LOOKING FORWARD By the close of 2019, we will have served over 419 children.
We will increase our medical mission impact with our ongoing commitment in Bolivia and new relationships in Panama and Kenya.
The Board of Directors is planning for succession with a focus on infrastructure, expansion and a continued commitment to the staff, volunteers, donors and our patients.
