CareRootedinEmpathy &Experience

Do you ever wonder why some Doctors are so incredibly compassionatewhile others have a bedside manner better suited for the DMV?

In the case of Dr. Lucas Brown, DAOM, LACof RosedaleAcupuncture &Wellness Center it is acase of true empathy. “In my 20’s Iwas dealing with crippling anxiety and insomnia It was the type of chronic suffering not visible to the naked eye. Experiencinghow isolating it was to endure in silence set me on apath to look for abetter solution to chronic health issues.”

Dr. Brown’s options were limited to two things. Prescription medications that often did not work and had come with ahost of sideeffects, or to make lifestyle changes to attemptto limit the symptoms. “It was no way to live,” he shares “I wasyoung and should’ve been living abright, vibrant life. Instead Iwas hesitant to leave the house, tired all the time and felt very alone. The only thing doctors were able to offer was another pill.” It wasn’t until he went to an acupuncturist that he found realrelief.

This is why Ioften refer to my practice as“The Last Resort With The Best Results,”You’ve been everywhere else and been given thesame disheartening prognosis, prescribed the same medications and told, “this is just something you’re going to have to learn to live with.”

Soon after his incredible experience with the healing arts he made the life changing decision to pursue his doctoratein acupunctureand Chinese Herbal Medicine. On that journey, he found solutions that worked for him and were also able to help so many others.

“Acupuncture quite literally changed my life and Iwant to share that with the world,” he proclaims.

YourGoldenYearsShould BeGolden

While in school he watched as his aunt began to suffer from Peripheral Neuropathy. “Your golden years should be golden, not plagued with insufferable pain while doctors and specialists tell you there is nothing they can do.”Understanding that Eastern Medicine excels where Western Medicine fails, Dr. Brown set forth to develop treatment protocols for all variations of Peripheral Neuropathy (including diabetic and chemotherapy-induced) and now hasa 90% success rate in treating this once difficult to manage condition.

“I was tired of seeing the older generation suffer unnecessarily,” shares Dr. Brown. “Diagnosing them as just getting older and giving them atreatment plan of ‘you’re just going to have to get used to it has never sat well with me so Iwanted to offer them areal option for treatment and care.”

Dr.Brown has designed similar treatment protocols for other complicated, chronic conditions including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, post- shingles pain, and even macular degeneration. While each patient planistailored specifically to the patient’s concern and goals, all of his treatments are based on aframework that’s over fourteen years in the making.

In addition Dr. Brown isn’t opposed to more modern medical solutions. “It’s in blending thetime- tested science of acupuncture with recent innovations in medicine that get me the best results.”

One of those advancements is ATP Resonance Bio Therapy, originally developed by NASA, it aidsnerves in regeneration by providing them the nutrients they need to repair and renew, “very similar to what water does for aplant!”

TheMagicof CompassionateCare

And what do those in his care have to say? “Dr Brown looked me in my eyes and wanted to know about me, not just my condition. I feel like aperson, not just apatient,”shares Joan. “In fact Idon’t think he’s never used the word patient.”Others proclaim “hesaved my life”, “his neuropathy treatments gave me my life back, and “it’s amiracle he treated my fibromyalgia, Idon’t know how else to explain it.”

Dr. Brown has along personal history in complicated, difficult to understand conditions and understands how tragic it can all be if left untreated. “I havesat where my patients sit. I’ve experienced their pain and suffering on an intimate level. It’s why Ipractice the brand of medicine Idoand why I’ve made it my life’s mission to treat the “untreatable.”Itbrings me such incredible joy when Iget to say, “I canhelp you!”

Furthermore, Dr. Brown has surrounded himself with staffthat embraces this same approach to patient care. “You can ask any one of my patients and they will tell you that their favorite part about Rosedale Acupuncture &Wellness Center is my staff.”

What were your impressions when youfirstvisited Austin, andhow have thoseideas changedsince?

I firstvisited Austin in 2010,and I remember instantlyfeeling this vibrant, creative buzz.Itwas quirky, welcoming, andjusthad this spark thatwassodifferentfromanywhere elseI’dbeen.Backthen, itfeltlikea hidden gem. Today, Austin’s notso hidden anymore, butit’skeptthat creative, entrepreneurialspirit.I’ve fallen even more in love with the people here. There’s arealsense of “comeasyou are” that makesita beautifulplacetobothliveandgrow. My favorite part of thecityisthatit seemseveryoneisdoingsomething interesting.

Celebrating 20 years, Alamo Drafthouse’s gore-loving Fantastic Fest has come of age—without losing itstaste forthe deranged.

Since its inception in 2005, Fantastic Fest hasearned a reputation for blood-splattered world premieres, gonzo parties, and immersive activations worthyofa director’s cutDVD.EverySeptember, thousands of fans descend upon theAlamo Drafthouse for what’s nowthe nation’s largestgenrefilmfestival—and a chance tobrush shoulders with icons like Tim Burton, Jamie Lee Curtis, or Saw's Billythe Puppet.

“The focusfor me is an artistic justification of genre films,” Tim League, aco-founderofthe festivaland of Alamo Drafthouse, told The New York Times in 2010.As the movie theater mogul sawit, genre films were too oftenrelegated to late-nightslots or overlooked entirely—regardlessoftheir cinematic prowess Fantastic Fest takes adifferent approach: “What wetry to do is champion these films as being amazing films that just happen to have genre elements.”

We’rehonoring twodecades of mayhem and cultclassics by looking back on some of the fest’s most memorable moments.

What defines Austin?More than the innovative tech scene, the booming real estate development, or even the emanating music, it’sthe free-spirited, authentically cool people that make up the face of Austin.
