Fifth Third Bank New Prototype

FIFTH THIRD BANK

NEW PROTOTYPE BRANCH

HEAPY was entrusted by Fifth Third Bank to provide comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services for the construction of a new branch in Milford, Ohio. The project aimed to consolidate two existing branches into a single, innovative space that reflects the Bank’s evolving service model with a focus on client comfort, convenience, and safety.

This new branch represents a departure from traditional banking environments. The largest Fifth Third Bank branch to date, HEAPY collaborated closely with the project team to design a spacious 5,000 SF branch that fosters an open and inviting atmosphere. By breaking down traditional barriers between customer service representatives and clients, the design enhances the banking experience, making clients feel at home while ensuring their safety and confidence in their banking partner.

Fifth Third Bank prioritizes comfort, functionality, and aesthetics in branch design, with a keen focus on seamless integration of technology and adaptability for future upgrades. Technology design included security systems such as CCTV, motion detectors, and secure access control, aligning with Fifth Third Bank’s commitment to client and employee safety.

In addition, the team ensured adherence to the Bank’s proprietary standards (e.g., airflow, diffuser location). The building controls system for this branch is also integrated into the Bank’s real-time, IoT (Internet of Things) data monitoring and oversight system. This centralized system allows for timely identification of maintenance issues and helps direct allocation of internal resources.

To enhance resiliency, the design also included individual battery packs for lighting fixtures and a connection for a portable generator to power the building in case of emergencies.

NATIONWIDE BRANCHES

Since 2021, more than 50 branches have been renovated or built to date, following four standard prototypes that are customized and adapted to fit each site’s unique space and requirements. Stores are located in North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, South Carolina, and Kentucky.

Scope of work includes pre-design site visits, new and renovated MEP systems design, closeouts and punch lists, as well as final walk through to verify quality of equipment installation. Closeout includes pre- and post-photometric analysis to ensure light levels meet code and Fifth Third standards for safety and security. Commissioning has also been provided for several sites.

COLLABORATION

HEAPY collaborates closely with Fifth Third, on-site contractors, and design consultants to execute project with a high degree of efficiency, often performing a high volume of simultaneous design and construction administration services for various branches across the nation. Responsiveness, transparent communication, and schedule adherence are paramount to ensure Fifth Third Bank’s expansion and growth targets are met.

NATIONWIDE STORES SPEEDWAY

In May 2014, Marathon Petroleum announced they would purchase Hess Corporation’s Retail business for $2.8 billion which included over 1400 Hess Stores. HEAPY was brought on to provide design services to renovate over 100 stores to incorporate the Speedway Marketing Standards and improve store sales.

Stores are located in North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Kentucky. HEAPY coordinated the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Architectural elements from field takeoffs to concept design and coordination with Speedway on the final floor plan. HEAPY then produced construction drawings and provided construction administration consulting services to complete the stores.

HEAPY has consistently collaborated with Speedway and all sub-consultants to perform design services as expeditiously with professional skill and care. All engineering design work is performed in a manner with sequence and timing so that it can be coordinated with other consultants.

Speedway has indicated that HEAPY is one of the best provider of services and response to issues and our relationship is continuing with design services for new build stores throughout the Midwest now and in the future.

CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS EXPANSION

The expanded HQ features numerous amenity spaces, including conference and collaboration rooms, office space, a central cafeteria for the entire campus, visitor waiting areas, a mothers room, and multiple break rooms.

It also provides diverse work areas supporting departments such as Purchasing, Conversion and Integration, Construction and Engineering, Environmental and Safety, Receiving, the Credit Card Group, Financial Accounting, and Treasury.

AT DAYTON MALL THE VILLAGE

HEAPY designed the Mechanical-Electrical systems for the new 90,000 SF Lifestyle Center. Adding a new gateway to the existing retail center, an exceptionally large parking field was repurposed to draw interest from popular stores. The open-air concept presents itself as an upscale mall, where guests can casually window shop or relax as they stroll along the sidewalks that lead to the indoor facility.

The space creates an ambiance that is reminiscent of a small, rural town, applying touches including reproduction lamp posts, freshly groomed greenery and park benches throughout the complex. The village style addition has brought rejuvenated energy to the property, with new retailers negotiating for additional expansion locations.

The Center features both high-end restaurants and tenants enhancing Dayton Mall’s already strong retail mix. The new lifestyle center is open-air, pedestrian friendly that blends shopping, food and entertainment to give customers a towncenter experience.

INDIANAPOLIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

WHITE BOX CONCESSIONS

HEAPY developed packages for white box preparation of existing spaces for new food and beverage, retail, and service concessions at the Indianapolis International Airport’s 1,200,000 SF midfield passenger terminal, which opened in 2008 between the existing airport’s two parallel runways. Dining, shopping and retail services are available to the public in the pre-security Civic Plaza and available to ticketed passengers in the post-security areas of Concourses A & B.

Careful planning and phasing was required to work to enhance the space while maintaining operations in areas with high customer traffic at the airport.

Project Scope Included:

• Review of Record Information

• Utility Evaluation

• Field Investigation

• MEP Design

• Detailed Cost Estimates

• Bid Phase Services

• Construction Phase Services

BREWING SUN KING

As an anchor destination on the city’s plaza, DELV designed the new 15,000 SF two-story distillery and taproom with a modern-industrial look utilizing materials such as metals, woods, and concrete to express its adjacent, historic railway.

HEAPY provided Mechanical-Electrical Design services associated with plumbing, fire suppression, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and electrical systems. The two-story distillery with and tap room has a production capacity of up to 10,000 proof gallons and seating for 300 people, including space on the rooftop deck that will overlook the Monon Trail.

Thoughtful outdoor seating environments were integrated on the rooftop and lower level, connecting patrons to the lively activity along the Monon Trail and the Midtown Plaza. Punch through openings and glass wrappings invite patrons into the craft of their operations, offering them unique visual access into the process behind the beverages they’ve come to enjoy.

FINDLAY STREET GARAGE

RETAIL & RESTAURANTS

A mixed use community project nestled in the heart of downtown Cincinnati near the historic Findlay Market and walking distance from the Cincinnati Music Hall and TQL Stadium, home of FC Cincinnati. The $22 million, 174,000 SF project features a garage with 515 parking spots and approximately 20,000-SF of first floor Retail/Restaurant and back of house space.

Through close collaboration with Hamilton County and other teaming partners, HEAPY developed mixed warm white boxes and gray boxes for the retail and restaurant space, which includes segregated utility metering for domestic water, electric, and gas for all spaces.
