FREAKFEST
WHAT IS FREAKFEST? Freakfest is the region’s largest annual Halloween party and music festival that occurs on the Saturday closest to Halloween. Freakfest features over 15 local, regional, and national acts on 3 stages for over six hours of live entertainment. WHY DOES FREAKFEST EXIST? Prior to 2006, Halloween on State Street was not gated or ticketed and numerous arrests, fights, and property damage occurred. The event became a major source of strain on city resources. So, in 2006, in an effort to keep Halloween on State Street containable, positive, and organized, Freakfest was formed. In 2007 the city partnered with Frank Productions to bring live music to Freakfest. An Open Letter to
Paul McCartney By Anonymous
Let me preface this letter by saying you could easily be considered the greatest musician in the history of man. Your library of recorded music is far and away the best out there. As part of the most influential band in the history of recorded music, you were arguably the best of the group. The only people who don’t like any of the Beatles catalog are either those who don’t know their listening to it or those who haven’t heard it. You have too many great songs for a listener not to like some of it. Having said all that, you need to put on a better live show. It feels like you’re more in love with the response from the crowd, than putting out a quality vocal performance. Great singers really only care about the quality of their vocal performance. They love to sing and can always wring a great performance even out of old, stale songs. It seems like you sing with more ego than passion. The crowd’s going to love you no matter how horrible the performance is so there shouldn’t be much satisfaction in a great crowd reaction. Two singers come that come to mind when I think of quality – Paul Rodgers and James Taylor. They are craftsmen, artisans. Although they each sing different genres of music, they are always soulful and on key. Neither of them sing it like the record, but both can improvise, live and stay on key. There are a handful of singers in this league. This is the gold standard for vocal performers. You have to prove that you can pull it off vocally live. You need to go back and reconnect with the old recordings. You need to put down your ego and admit that your live performance is only mediocre. Give the people what they want – the belief you can do no wrong and your voice is as pure as it is on those recordings. I believe this is a matter of effort, not ability. You need to cement your legend and put out one tour where the vocals are flawless. Work, like you’ve never worked before, and put us in awe of everything that is you. We want to be in that state because we so believe in the magic of your studio recordings and the greatness that is you. You have to approach this like a professional athlete and be disciplined down to the note. This will satisfy everyone’s perceived image of you and will generally mesmerize us. You must listen to the old recordings and remember and reconnect with the magic that made them so flawless and heart felt. It is obvious that you are very disconnected from your legendary material. If you want the ultimate ego rush, have us amazed at the vocal performance you can still provide. We want you t o show everyone that the competition is only for second place because you are so far in first.

AHS CULT Editors Pick for Scariest Show on TV Getting to know Evan Peters ...Actor who plays Kai Anderson on AHS Cult
American Horror Story: Cult is the seventh season of the FX horror anthology television series American Horror Story.
Evan Peters stars as “Kai Anderson” in the seventh installment of American Horror Story. Peters is one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors with critical acclaim in both television and film. Peters recently finished production on American Animals, directed by Bart Layton. The film chronicles the story of four young men who mistake their lives for a movie and attempt one of the most audacious heists in U.S. history. In addition to American Horror Story: Cult, FX’s limited series has featured Peters in all of the previous six installments in a variety of roles including “Tate Langdon,” a murderous, psychotic teenager in the first installment Murder House and “Mr. March,” the man responsible for creating the sinister Hotel in the fifth installment. This December, Peters will star in Dabka, directed by Bryan Buckley and alongside Al Pacino and Barkhad Abdi. Dabka chronicles the true story of rookie journalist Jay Bahadur (Peters) who in 2008, formed a plan to embed himself among the pirates of Somalia to make a name for himself. He ultimately succeeds in providing the first close-up look into who these men are, how they live, and the forces that drive them. The film is written by Bahadur and Buckley. Peters has received critical praise for his role as “Quicksilver” in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse and will appear in the next installation, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender and directed by Simon Kinberg, set for release on November 2, 2018. Peters also appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.

Lucas At Large: Inside Linebacker Rotation Keeps Badgers Sharp Mike Lucus, UWBadgers.com Senior writer Whether T.J. Edwards is playing alongside of Ryan Connelly or Chris Orr — or monitoring them from the sideline when he’s out of the game — there’s a constant among these inside linebackers. Productivity. Despite unique personalities (Orr is by far the most loquacious) and diverse backgrounds (Edwards and Connelly are former prep quarterbacks), their playmaking has been a common thread.
So, has their resilience to individual challenges. Edwards and Connelly, a former walk-on, have lost game snaps and practice time to injuries. Orr lost a whole season to a torn ACL. On the field, they have their own styles. But it hasn’t forced Edwards, for instance, to make in-game adjustments from series to series predicated on his partner, Connelly or Orr. “They’re different type players,” Edwards said of his teammates. “They play

at different levels in terms of speed, things like that. But they both do things well. I think they’d say the same about me. “I have different strengths and weaknesses than they do. But there’s one thing you can be sure about: they know what they’re going to be doing and I know what I’m going to be doing. “Just having that chemistry with them is what makes it easy. I never doubt if they’re going to be in the right gap or anything like that.” Last Saturday, Northwestern ran 79 offensive plays and Edwards was on the field for 62, Connelly for 59 and Orr for 46. Connelly finished with 10 tackles (second to safety D’Cota Dixon’s 12); Orr had seven tackles and one of Wisconsin’s eight quarterback sacks; Edwards had six tackles and a partial tackle for loss. They all agreed that the rotation has been a positive in extending their effectiveness. “If we have the freshest two ‘backers in there, we’ll play the best,” said Orr, a sophomore from DeSoto, Texas, “because we all have experience and starter’s ability.” Edwards has 29 career starts; Orr has 10, Connelly has nine. “It’s one of those things,” said Edwards, a junior from Lake Villa, Illinois, “where you get a blow and you’re back out there. It’s not like you’re sitting out for a long time or getting off your rhythm.” There are other benefits to rotating Edwards, Orr and Connelly. Communication, for one. “It’s really nice because you kind of get three perspectives on what we’re seeing out there,” said Connelly, a junior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. “On the sidelines, we’re always talking.” Whomever is not on the field serves as another set of eyes for those who are. “Exactly,” Connelly said. “He’s always watching, he’s always locked in, he always knows the play. Sometimes, he’ll see something that the guys on the field don’t see. “And sometimes the guys on the field will relay something to the guy on the sidelines. We just kind of help each other out.” That’s how Edwards looks at his role when he’s not playing. “I still try to be as vocal as I can and yell out things I see,” he said. “Cichy is the same way now that’s he’s on the sidelines.” After undergoing knee surgery during training camp, Jack Cichy started the season in the press box as a precautionary move during his early rehab. The emotional, energized Cichy is a team captain. “When I come off (the field), he has been really good with me,” Edwards said. “He’ll tell me to calm down when things aren’t going well — to kind of just regroup, which is something we need.”
After a lackluster first half against Northwestern — the Badgers trailed 10-7 and were guilty of sloppy tackling — Cichy and defensive lineman Alec James had a few pointed things to say in the locker room. “Basically, they were both relaying the message that we were not playing Wisconsin football,” Connelly said. “We’ve got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot.” BADGERING<<page 1 day — from running, not school — to talk about her love for the sport, her top campus curiosity and her No. 1 lesson from the season so far. What made you fall in love with running? “Gosh, just the idea of the sport, that you don’t need a lot to run. You just strap on some shoes and go and the competitive feeling of getting out there and racing is a really awesome feeling. Once you get to this level, you have such a team aspect and it’s really great to just feel your teammates’ energy and building off that.” What do you think about when you’re running, whether it’s training or an actual race? “It depends on the run. If it’s an easy run we’re just thinking about songs. There’s usually a song going through my head.” The same song? “No. It changes. It’s usually the last one we listen to. We listen to some pretty fun songs.” Is there a UW sport that you haven’t seen in person, but want to? “I’d say hockey. I’ve heard fun things about hockey and I’ve never been to a hockey game at all, so I really want to go to that this year. Some of my teammates have been talking and they say it’s really fun to watch how physical it is.” Is there a UW student-athlete you’d like to trade places with for a day? “Tough one. I’d say the quarterback. It would be interesting to just be on the football team. I’d love to be in the shoes of a football player for a day just to see their schedule and how their practices are and what their weight-lifting (schedule) is. It’s very different from running.” Your major and why you choose it? “Dietetics. I’d like to be a registered dietician and hopefully specialize in sports nutrition because I think nutrition is such an important aspect of our lives. It’s a passion of mine that I want to help other people capitalize on their health.” What’s your biggest personal takeaway from your first four meets? “To have confidence in your training and the team aspect. That’s the biggest part of it, especially in the beginning of a race. We really love to get that team energy together. If you don’t have that, you find yourself in the middle of the race not really knowing what to do.”
