Honoring the Apostles of Good Health It is that time of the year when we need to preview, acknowledge and pay our tributes to the many selfless unsung heroes in healthcare who bring together their expertise, insight, and dedication to achieve medical miracles-saving lives and advancing humanity. They bring together a combination of magic, miracle, technique and empathy, with their patience and their unique ability to envisage the treatment process in its entirety. They illuminate our understanding with their perspective honed through years of mastering medical knowledge and practical training! As the world embraces technology, innovation and AI, the healthcare sector steps up to accommodate this transformation. We must pause and acknowledge these professionals who make sense of these new conundrums and harness these innovations for humanity. These healthcare heroes who step up their
learning and technique to embrace these changes even as they continue to keep their perspective focused on the patient. Every new research breakthrough, every new pharmacological formulation, every new technique mastered, is about bringing the best, the latest and the cutting edge to people for better health and a better life. In that sense, every health worker is an icon. However, we have taken the liberty to showcase the brilliance of a few healthcare luminaries in the UAE. A Salute to Health Care Professionals! The World Health Organization (WHO) health is defined as ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It extends that definition to add that health is a balance of mental, physical and social aspects, together, known as the health triangle. Having a good balance in all three areas is essential to living a healthy lifestyle. Today, we are witness to the quiet, steady and rapid transformations in Artificial Intelligence innovations that power diagnostics, early detection and analysis of disease, robotics, telehealth, wearable devices, gene editing as well as miraculous stem-cell interventions to rejuvenate our health. We have adapted MRNA technology to intervene in women’s reproductive health and many such sci-fi advancements. But that does not make us invincible as a race. On the contrary, in the same space we, simultaneously watch the proliferation of several non-communicable diseases such as lethal cancers, diabetes Type II, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia & Cardio-vascular diseases, that make us vulnerable every day. Not to mention the threat of lurking pathogens ready to unleash another pandemic on humanity. It almost seems like the human civilization is locked in an eternal clash between disease and wellness. In this context, the health sector is catapulted to
prominence, worldwide. Health care professionals balance profound research into age-defying biology of life-sciences, genome sequencing, DNA analysis, longevity on hand, with active application of the new tools, new treatments and new devices. According to UAE’s health sector, MOH’s latest report, the UAE has a growing healthcare market, expecting a growth of 3% annually from 2024-2030 and reaching a market value of $22 billion in 2024. The country boasts high per capita spending and a strong focus on technological advancement in healthcare, with increasing investments in digital health solutions. Key statistics show a doctor-topopulation ratio of approximately 29.8 doctors per 10,000 people, and a total of 31,844 doctors and 65,510 nurses in 2024. Life expectancy is high, at 76.8 years, though the population faces growing challenges from non-communicable diseases. We are perhaps in the best period of scientific investigation, discovery and implementation. The doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals have evolved into a highly sensitized, qualified force of people dedicated to life on earth. While achieving a balance in the health triangle (physical, mental and social) is work in progress, I think it’s time to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of health. These are medical sentinels, who have taken up the gauntlet to protect, preserve and perhaps perpetuate human life on planet Earth.

When you step into an Intensive Care Unit, every second counts. For the patients who arrive at that critical threshold, survival depends not only on advanced machines and protocols but on the expertise and calm leadership of the physician at the helm. For nearly two decades, Dr. Adel Mohamed Yasin Alsisi has been that steady hand, guiding teams, saving lives, and shaping critical care medicine in the UAE and beyond.

Building Foundations in Cairo
Dr. Alsisi’s journey in medicine began in Egypt, where he pursued his academic training at Cairo University. Driven by a deep interest in the science of life support and the complexities of the human body under stress, he completed his Master’s degree in Critical Care Medicine in
2005 and went on to earn a PhD in the same field in 2011. His years in Cairo built a strong clinical and academic foundation that would later become the bedrock of his international career. During this time, he immersed himself in intensive care research, co-authoring several textbooks and contributing as a reviewer for leading journals in critical care medicine. His ability to blend rigorous science with practical clinical insight quickly earned him recognition in the professional community.
Leadership in Dubai’s Healthcare Sector
In 2013, Dr. Alsisi relocated to the United Arab Emirates, where his
raising the standard of care, implementing evidence-based protocols, and ensuring patient safety remains uncompromised. Under his leadership, Prime Healthcare’s ICU services have become a benchmark for quality and preparedness in the private healthcare sector.
Educator and Mentor
Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Alsisi has dedicated much of his career to nurturing the next generation of doctors. He is the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) for residency programs affiliated with the Arab Board and Dubai Health Authority, and he also directs internship programs within Prime Healthcare. His role as a teacher and mentor extends across international boundaries. Dr. Alsisi is a faculty

His publications and contributions to ICU textbooks are widely referenced, reflecting his reputation as both a clinician and a scientist. This dual identity - doctor researcher - allows him to stay at the cutting edge of advances in critical care while applying them in real-time to improve patient outcomes.

The clinic quickly became a beacon of hope for thousands of workers, and its success inspired expansion to Sharjah, Dubai, and the Northern Emirates. Today, his network comprises over 60 facilities, including clinics, pharmacies, diagnostic centers, and a 24/7 urgent care unit - collectively serving more than 4,000 patients daily and 2.5 million annually.
