f your kids are like many, they’re happy to get their hands on chicken fingers. Now, you can improve on this fun food with the help of an ancient grain and a superberry. Try nutrient-rich millet or quinoa instead of plain breading, and tart-sweet lingonberries, which Dr. Oz has called a superfruit full of antioxidants, for the dipping sauce.

4 tablespoons of Felix Lingonberry Jam pureed until smooth 1½ tablespoons of honey ½ teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce ½ teaspoon balsamic vinegar ¼ teaspoon of onion powder
Chicken Fingers 3 or 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 2-inch strips ½ cup flour 1 tsp. salt + ¼ tsp. pepper 2 eggs 2 cups cooked millet or quinoa Place ¾ cup of dried millet or quinoa in a pot with 1½ cups of water. Boil millet or quinoa on medium heat for 20 minutes or until soft. Allow to cool. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 425 degrees and grease a baking sheet. In a small bowl, whisk flour, salt and pepper. Reading Program Is ‘Changing Lives One Student at a Time’
hile parents may understand the importance of reading to their kids at an early age, not all children are born bookworms.
In fact, according to a report released last year by Common Sense Media, adolescents aren’t reading for fun much anymore and their reading achievement hasn’t increased for more than two decades. Among the findings: girls tend to read 10 minutes longer than boys; and adolescents read more than teenagers. And yet, one high school is challenging and exceeding this research by promoting and using a reading program that is not only helping its students understand and comprehend literature, but motivating them to read more. Reading Plus (www.readingplus.com) is an online reading program that changes how, what, and why students read, and according to Jayne Ellspermann, the 2015 National Principal of the Year at West Port High School in Ocala, Fla., is helping her students to develop a confidence in reading that wasn’t there before. “We have students who have mastered their basic needs, but what we really appreciate about Reading Plus is the opportunity for students, once they’re empowered, to exceed what we would have thought was their po-

If you’re not sure which one has jurisdiction, don’t worry. They regularly route tips and cases of suspected fraud to the most appropriate agency.
Full financial recovery may be difficult, but to improve your chances, it’s critical that you report the crime as quickly as possible. Reporting financial fraud, no matter how small, helps the authorities pursue the criminals. Very often, perpetrators will dispose of your money immediately after taking it; you may never get it back. Recovery, however, is about more than money. It’s also about protecting your future financial health and finding ways to recover emotionally from the crime. These steps can help you reclaim power from the fraudsters and move forward. Step 1: Create an investment fraud file. Collect all documentation concerning the fraud in one file in a secure location. The file should include the perpetrator’s name, contact information and any of the fraudster’s purported regulatory registration numbers; a timeline of events; the police report, if any; your most recent credit report from all three credit-reporting companies; and any evidence of the fraud or deception. Step 2: Know your rights. You have rights under federal and, in some cases, state law. For federal victim rights, check the U.S. Department of Justice’s website at www.justice.gov. For state victim rights, check with the attorney general. Step 3: Report to regulators. Reporting the fraud to national, federal and state regulatory organizations that oversee investment products and professionals may help you and others avoid a similar fraud. These agencies include: • Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (www.finra.org)
• U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (www.cftc.gov).
Step 4: Report to law enforcement. Reporting the investment fraud to law enforcement is important to help make it possible to investigate responsible parties and prevent damage to others. You may also want to contact the FBI field office and, if relevant, report the fraud to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov). Step 5: Report to the Federal Trade Commission. Use the FTC’s Complaint Assistant at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov. Lodging a complaint will also enter the fraud into the Consumer Sentinel Network so law enforcement can stop ongoing fraud and track these crimes. This process will not, however, initiate a criminal investigation of your case. Step 6: Consider civil remedies. You may be able to recover some of your lost assets through arbitration, mediation or a civil lawsuit. f it’s true that you only get one chance to make a great first impression, then a picture-perfect smile could be the key, according to a recent study.
In a survey conducted by Kelton Global for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), a person’s smile makes for a memorable meeting. The survey results found that nearly half of adults surveyed (48 percent) believed that a smile is the most memorable feature after first meeting someone -- more so than the first thing a person says (25 percent), the clothes they wear (9 percent), or the way they smell (8 percent.) Your smile can reveal more than just your teeth and gums. “It’s about who you are and how you feel about yourself,” Dr. Sidney Markowitz, a cosmetic dentist in Washington D.C. and past president of the AACD, told the New York Times. But the way teeth look in a smile matters as well. Bad teeth may result in being memorable for all the wrong reasons. More than one-third of people surveyed (37 percent) felt that people with a flawed smile were less attractive, while one-quarter said those with imperfect smiles were less confident. “It [cosmetic dentistry] creates a better self-image. That’s worth a lot in
today’s highly competitive world,” Markowitz said. “Any edge you can get is an advantage. A great smile is an edge.” Other findings include: * More than half (52 percent) of respondents say they would smile more if they had a nicer smile. * Thirty-eight percent say they avoid smiling in photographs because of the way their teeth look. * More than half (60 percent) are more likely to pay for a great smile over other cosmetic procedures. “The smile is our area of expertise, and AACD dentists make it easier for people looking for a job or a new relationship to put their best foot forward,” says Dr. Joyce Bassett, AACD president. igh school students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture will likely find job opportunities are ripe for the picking in the coming years.
According to a report from Purdue University, the U.S. will have nearly 58,000 high-skilled job openings per year in the food, agriculture, renewable natural resources and environmental fields between now and 2020. That compares to only about 35,000 U.S. students graduating with degrees in those fields per year for the same time. One factor driving the demand for skilled workers is the diverse mix of challenges facing farmers. By 2050, U.S. farmers are expected to help increase global food production by 70 percent to feed a world population of 9 billion people. In the near term, farmers must also contend with lower commodity prices, cope with severe weather and labor shortages, and combat greater weed resistance and crop disease. A new generation of skilled professionals is needed to help take farmers to 2050 and beyond. This includes not only the farm operators who will be expected to apply more sophisticated farming technologies and practices in the field, but the researchers, scientists and engineers who will shape the future of agriculture through research and innovations. Another factor contributing to the robust job market is an aging workforce. According to a report from the STEM Food & Ag Council, nearly a quarter of industry professionals in advanced agriculture fields such as plant and soil science, food science and technology, and agricultural economics are age 55 or older. Meanwhile, more than 60 percent of principal farm operators are now age 55 or older, reports the USDA Census of Agriculture. An influx of young talent will be needed in the next several years to replace these workers both in the field and in the lab. Find the Right Program: Students should be diligent in evaluating agriculture programs against their personal and career interests. This means seeking out schools that not only offer the right degrees but also provide internship, student-involvement and research opportunities in areas relevant to them. Get Support: The number of scholarships available to students from different organizations can be overwhelming. Ag-focused scholarships can be a good place to start, especially as companies seek to support more young people joining the industry.
