When you’re juggling road trips, holiday shopping and other seasonal activities, the last thing you want to worry about is your car. John Latner, an ASE-certified master technician and technical training manager for ACDelco, shares five tips to ensure your car is ready for your holiday travel. Batteries: The increasing number of electrical systems in tod ay’s vehicles can tax your battery even in perfect weather conditions. Do a quick visual inspection to make sure your battery is securely mounted and the connections are clean, tight and corrosion-free. If your battery is more than three years old, it’s a good idea to have it tested. Brakes: Properly functioning brakes are one of the most important safety systems on your vehicle, and stop-and-go traffic can put a lot of wear and tear on your calipers, pads and rotors. Latner recommends inspection by an ASE-certified technician at your dealer or independently owned facility at least yearly. Coolant/Antifreeze/Wiper Blade Fluids: This is important all year, but especially so before particularly warm or cold seasonal driving conditions. Keep your washer fluid reservoir filled with the variety recommended in your owner’s manual. Check the coolant level in your coolant reservoir (never open your radiator cap if your engine was recently running), and add a 50/50 mixture of

the antifreeze recommended in your owner’s manual and distilled water if it needs to be topped off. If you notice consistent coolant loss, have your system tested for leaks by a technician. Oil: Following the oil and filter change schedule for your vehicle can help you avoid costly engine issues. Most modern vehicles have oil life monitoring systems that “tell” you when a change is needed; for older vehicles, the typical factory-recommended oil change interval is 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Manually check your oil level per the instructions in your owner’s manual and watch for leaks under the vehicle that could signal a more serious problem. Windshield Wipers: Latner recommends customers replace their wiper blades every six months or sooner if they notice increased streaking or damage to the blades. This is particularly important if you travel in snow, sleet or ice. Bake Up Delicious Breakfast Bars For Busy Kids

ere’s news many families may consider a wake-up call: Studies show that kids who eat breakfast have better concentration and more energy. Yet approximately 8 to 12 percent of all school-aged kids skip this important meal.

Lingonberry Breakfast/Lunchbox Bars 1½ tablespoons ground flaxseeds (or flaxseed meal) 3 tablespoons water 15 ounces chickpeas (garbanzo beans), canned 2 medium bananas ¾ cup flour, gluten free ½ cup coconut sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon baking soda ⅛ teaspoon salt

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients, reserving the chocolate chips. Add the chickpea puree to the dry ingredients along with the vanilla, lingonberry jam and flaxseed mixture and mix to combine. Then fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake on center oven rack for 24−26 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10−15 minutes, then transfer bars to a wire rack and cool completely before slicing (this is important!). Slice into 12−16 bars. Store on the counter for a few hours if they seem too moist; otherwise, put them in an airtight container and store for two to three days. Six Tips To Help You Master Your Next Meeting

A

recent study from Office Broker found that the average office worker spends around 16 hours in meetings each week. Over a year, this translates into more than a month at the conference table. While meetings can be a great way to gather and provide team input and updates, chances are, much of your co-workers’ time—and your own—could be used more effectively. How To Master Meetings Fortunately, it doesn’t take much to transform meetings into the worthwhile sessions they’re meant to be. By following these six tips, you can become a Meeting Master and earn respect and appreciation from your managers and colleagues.

Arrange the seating so all the participants face you, as well as whatever screens, whiteboards or props you intend to use. This will help eliminate distractions and make it easier for everyone to stay focused and pay attention.

• Follow Up—Once the meeting concludes, distribute paper copies of the minutes or to-dos within 24 hours. Minutes don’t have to be wordfor-word but they should include important topics and assignments. This last—but essential—step eliminates any ambiguity over assignments and next steps and ensures that everyone is on the same “page”—literally.

• Keep It Exclusive—Everyone likes to feel included but, when it comes to meetings, less is often more. With more attendees comes greater potential to veer off-topic. Also, keep in mind that each hour spent in a meeting is an hour that could have been spent on other work, so as a host, keep the
