Congregation of Holy Cross Holy Cross Family Ministries is proudly under the sponsorship of the Congregation of Holy Cross, which shares in the Church’s mission by working as educators in the faith. The Congregation’s ministries, whether through Holy Cross Family Ministries, schools, parishes, or other works of missionary outreach and social justice, serve by educating hearts and minds and building communities of the coming kingdom. FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friends, The most impactful event for Holy Cross Family Ministries (HCFM) this past year was the December 18, 2017 decree of Pope Francis recognizing Father Patrick Peyton, our Founder, as “Venerable.” Nothing since Father Peyton’s death and funeral in 1992 has attracted similar attention around the globe. The news appeared to people around the world more than 1.8 billion times showing the ongoing devotion to Father Peyton and the growing significance of his ministry to family spirituality, prayer, and the Rosary. The impact of this decree has lifted the visibility of all our ongoing works, and also lifted the spirits of all of our HCFM teams in 17 countries on five continents. Without presumption, HCFM must plan for the real possibility that Father Peyton will be beatified in the near future. Along with the good news about Father Peyton’s Cause, this Mission Impact Report 2018 highlights exciting news about the renewal of the Father Peyton Center, the Gabriel Award-winning work of Family Theater Productions, and the 20th Anniversary of the Father Peyton Family Institute in Peru. HCFM also experienced the highest level of annual fund contributions in over twenty years in 2017-2018 raising $1,296,753, one-hundred percent of which goes directly to supporting mission activities. As you read of accomplishments and testimonies in this Report, remember it is the generosity of supporters like you that allows families to grow stronger through experiencing prayer, faith-based media, and family-focused services. W H Y O U R W O R K M AT T E R S “I would like to ask you, dear families: Do you pray together from time to time as a family? Some of you do, I know. But so many people say to me: But how can we?… But in the family how is this done? After all, prayer seems to be something personal, and besides there is never a good time, a moment of peace … Yes, all that is true enough, but it is also a matter of humility, of realizing that we need God … all of us! We need his help, his strength, his blessing, his mercy, his forgiveness. And we need simplicity to pray as a family: simplicity is necessary! Praying the Our Father together, around the table, is not something extraordinary: it’s easy. And praying the Rosary together, as a family, is very beautiful and a source of great strength! And also praying for one another! The husband for his wife, the wife for her husband, both together for their children, the children for their grandparents … praying for each other. This is what it means to pray in the family and it is what makes the family strong: prayer. Dear families, always live in faith and simplicity, like the Holy Family of Nazareth! The joy and peace of the Lord be always with you!”

Seventy-nine percent of parents believe prayers are heard or answered, and seventy-one percent of parents agree that prayer is essential to their faith, yet about sixty-four percent of families do not pray daily.* HCFM provides families the opportunities and resources to pray and learn about the faith.

A Historic Event: On the Rosary Path to Sainthood On Sunday, June 10, 2018, Family Rosary hosted the Venerable Patrick Peyton: On the Rosary Path to Sainthood Celebration in North Easton, MA. Over 700 people attended a wonderful and spiritually uplifting event to celebrate the Decree of Pope Francis recognizing Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., as Venerable. This historic day began at the Father Peyton Center with a Eucharistic procession followed by the praying of the Rosary in five different languages, each decade was led by a different family. After a moving Mass led by Bishop Arthur “Bud� Colgan, C.S.C., families received Family Rosary Prayer Kits to provide them the resources and opportunities to experience the power of prayer well beyond this event. Thank you to the families that were able to join us and be a part of history in the making! We are also grateful for the prayers of those who were unable to attend in person but were with us through prayer.

Whats Ahead: Transforming the Father Peyton Center The Father Peyton Center in North Easton, Massachusetts welcomes over 25,000 visitors annually to experience a variety of spiritually enriching Family Rosary opportunities that strengthen families and our communities. Visitors spend time in Rosary prayer or attend Mass in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Chapel, partake in sacramental retreats and family-focused programs. In June 2018, Holy Cross Family Ministries started a project that will transform the Father Peyton Center and family prayer experience. The new Center, set to open in Winter 2019, will feature a museum dedicated to sharing Father Peyton’s life and mission, and newly designed spaces for interactive family prayer programs. The project will also revitalize some of the aging fa-
cilities like the kitchen, cafeteria, and Confessional. We are excited for what’s ahead as this project will enable us to welcome many more families to learn, experience and strengthen their faith through prayer and the inspiration of Father Peyton! Lastly, we have aspirations to renovate our Chapel and Rosary Walk while also developing a proper Shrine, where pilgrims can honor Father Peyton, who we pray will one day be the “Saint for Family Prayer.” This is a historic opportunity to honor the life of Father Peyton and promote much-needed family prayer and spirituality!

An opportunity and a venue that would bring people together to explore the story of Father Peyton and the wonderful work he did bringing families together through prayer. This would be an opportunity to explore the work he did in the past, how his work continues today and the future of his legacy ‌ The other exciting opportunity for the new Father Peyton Center is to expand the audience and reach a broader and more diverse audience-people that come from all walks of life, with different learning styles, from a variety of cultures, speak different languages-and bring them into a singular facility that can invite them to have a prayerful experience. Home Visits: Planting Seeds of Hope Holy Cross Family Ministries continues to provide opportunities for families, like Mzee John and his son, to pray together through the home visits in which we meet families, listen to their life stories, pray with them and encourage them to pray together daily. The families we visit appreciate the company and feel that Family Rosary Uganda cares and is concerned about their spiritual needs. We seek out the poor, ill, mourning, and forgotten families. Through these visits, we are able to plant seeds of hope and witness lives being changed through the power of Rosary prayer.

Mzee John Ssemugooma is an 80-year old resident of the Ggaba Parish in the Kampala Suburb. He loves God despite the fact that he is going through challenges in life. He lives in a small one room house where he is taken care of by the son whom he praises daily. His son has been caring for his father since the passing of his mother three years ago. Mzee John is still mourning the loss of his wife and is battling physical illness and loneliness. Mzee John prays the Rosary every day and is grateful to Mother Mary for
interceding for him. When he is not praying, he can be found listening to Catholic programs on the radio. Due to age related circumstances Mzee explains, “I can no longer go to church so I listen to spiritual programs on my small radio here, I cannot see properly.� This is why he treasures the weekly home visits from the Family Rosary Uganda team. While he is unable to attend church due to illness, the Church has come to him through Family Rosary.

Community Celebration: A Beacon of Light The Pride of Place Award honors communities in Ireland who demonstrate exceptional care for their elderly, youth, disadvantaged groups, immigrants, and Irish descendants living outside Ireland. Last year, the Award was judged by two leaders who visited a Family Rosary event at the Father Peyton Memorial Centre in Attymass, County Mayo. Soon after their visit at the annual awards event, the Attymass community was announced a winner, and the Father Peyton Memorial Centre was central to the award and got extensive media exposure for the accomplishment. Attymass, which is Father Peyton’s hometown, achieved the top positions in Category One, which is
for villages with a population of less than 300 people. A community celebration was held at the Father Peyton Centre to commemorate the special occasion.

15 Years of Fellowship Family Rosary Ireland hosts weekly faith-filled gatherings for elders, special needs groups and their families. This has been the most popular and consistent outreach activity at the Centre which includes Mass, a meal, and retreat activities. Our weekly visitors say they would not miss this day for the world! For many it is the only time they get out of their house. Families greatly appreciate the team at the Centre and the welcome they receive.

The team at the Father Peyton Family Institute are devoted to the families and determined to help with the problems that life in Canto Grande poses for the community. The Institute uses data from research to equip pastoral agents, educators, and social
institutions in their work of defending, promoting and celebrating the development of individuals and families. In January 2018, the cornerstone of the new Father Peyton Family Institute was blessed in Bangalore, India. The needs of the family in India have grown rapidly in recent years. We are pleased to share that construction is underway to support those in need. The new Institute building will include a chapel, conference and media rooms, administrative offices, and retreat housing. This exciting project will expand our ability to empower and serve families in India through further replicating many of the successful programs conducted in Peru, including faith-based leadership workshops, family retreats, and counseling programs.

Financial Highlights Investing donations and endowment funds wisely. Just as you are generously committed to furthering our mission, we are committed to fiscal prudence to ensure sustainability and growth. Through your donations, we were able to raise $1,296,753 through 1,877 gifts in fiscal year 2018 (July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018). Investment returns from past generous endowment gifts covered the balance of our expenses. Fiscal Year 2018 expenses were in keeping with charity rating acceptable standards and measures, demonstrating a strong, responsible organization.

Of a total budget of $8,942,684, 76 percent or $6,824,853 went directly to support the mission programs of the ministry including Family Rosary U.S.A., Family Rosary International, the Father Peyton Family Institutes, and Family Theater Productions. We invested $2,117,831 in operations using returns from endowment gifts. Our past private endowment donors allow us to keep our 100% promise; that every dollar you donate goes directly to mission activities.

FROM THE CHAIRMAN It is my pleasure to share with you the Holy Cross Family Ministries Mission Impact Report 2018. 2017-2018 has been the most successful fundraising year in recent memory, a product of generous supporters like you and hard work and dedication by staff and Board members. Thank you for all you do to further HCFM’s mission. Ultimately, people only support work that inspires them and has a positive impact on the lives of others. The Father Peyton Family Institute in Canto Grande, Peru celebrated its 20th Anniversary of community service, positively shaping the lives of families in need and leading them to a life of family prayer. The power of HCFM’s work can be seen throughout our ministries, such as through Family Theater Productions’ award - winning series Catholic Central, Family Rosary's retreats in East Africa that serve over 50,000 youths, and much more. Without HCFM, broken families in Canto Grande and across our globe would not find strength and hope, and their communities would not have had the opportunity to flourish as they are today. Anna and I have supported the work of HCFM for over 25 years with a special interest in the Family Institute in Canto Grande. I GIVE BECAUSE OF FATHER PEYTON “I had met Father Peyton as a child at his Rosary Rally in Kerala, India. The rally was held at The Leo XIII High School grounds. My uncle Lawrence was one of the organizers. The response was tremendous. Later in my life, when I came to the United States, I corresponded with Father Peyton in Albany, recalling my memories of his rally in Kerala. I have been praying for the Beatification of Father Peyton and was delighted to see that now, thanks to Our Holy Father, Father Peyton is referred to as Venerable Patrick Peyton. Family Rosary conducted their 20th annual “Try Prayer! It Works!” Contest this year. Children and teens from Catholic Schools, parishes and other organizations around the world utilize their creative skills to illustrate and reflect on a theme. This year’s theme, Mary, the New Eve, encouraged students to artistically express how with Mary’s example and prayer, families can draw closer to God.
