The Przewalski’s Horse is the closest thing to wild horses that we have today. They are genetically different from domestic horses, and are sometimes categorized as their own species. Thanks to conservation efforts, Przewalski’s horses now roam free again in their natural habitat. However, they remain endangered, meaning the fight to preserve these beautiful symbols of history is not over.

Once upon a time, there was a herd of several wild horses They lived by the Cliffs of Moher and would graze alongside the ocean off the west coast of Ireland. This group of horses was fearless, untamed, and free They galloped back and forth along the rocky edges of the earth, their manes whipping in the salty seaside air. They loved to wrestle and play, whinnying and kicking out at their friends as they turned up dust At night, they gazed up at a sky full of stars and watched the many constellations reveal themselves.
No one in the herd was ever bored. Every day with the wild horses proved to be exciting and full of surprises However, even with that said, nothing could’ve prepared them for the day Lucky was born
The date was March 17 Saoirse, Lucky’s mom, was nuzzling her newborn foal after a long night of labour. “How is the baby?” asked Rory, the brave stallion who protected the herd Saoirse looked up at him with kind eyes “She’s perfect” she declared with pride “She looks just like me except for the beautiful marking on her forehead ” Saoirse shifted so that Rory and the rest of the onlooking herd could gaze upon the foal’s face The young filly was jet black like her mom, except for one single white marking. th
Placed perfectly center in the middle of her forehead, clear as day: a white four-leaf clover.
All of the horses gasped, ooh-ing and ahh-ing with delight. “It’s a miracle!” cried out Fiona, one of the older mares “I’ve never seen anything like it!” agreed Ciara All of them were in a tizzy now over the new baby’s special gift. “What are you going to call her?” asked Rory, glancing lovingly down at the newborn Saoirse thought long and hard, exhaling with a low nicker “Well, with a four-leaf clover on her face there’s only one right answer. I simply must name her Lucky. ”
From the day Lucky was born, everything was changed for the better. The frequent ocean storms that once shipwrecked boats turned to endless sunny skies and calm, lapping waves Grass grew in abundance - more than the herd could ever eat in their lifetime. Flowers bloomed year-round, and in brighter colours than ever seen before. Every day was paradise with Lucky around her namesake really did hold true
However, some of the nearby villagers had taken notice of the foal with the special marking Amongst them was a sly and cunning businessman named Droch He knew that this horse would be of very high value at the local auction. He had an evil plan to capture the foal and sell her to the highest bidder

One day, while the unsuspecting herd was taking their afternoon nap in the sun, Droch spied on them from a distance. His horse trailer was parked a few feet away, and he held a lasso in his right hand “If I can find a way to wrangle that foal onto my trailer, she’ll make me filthy rich!” he plotted, “Some of the buyers may even offer me a whole pot of gold ” He let out an evil laugh Droch crept up and hid behind a large boulder The horses were still unaware of his presence, with several of them lying down sleeping while Rory stood guard. Droch peered around the corner and took one step forward, causing a branch underneath his foot to crack
At the sound, Rory whipped his head around and pricked his ears forward “Someone’s here!” he alerted the herd “You guys make sure the foals are accounted for while I prepare to defend us. ” Just then, Droch came barreling towards them at a sprint, his lasso swinging wildly in the air “That foal is MINE!” he shouted, darting towards Lucky “And none of you are going to stop me!” The foal stood and watched the evil businessman lunge towards her, trembling helplessly
“Not on my watch!” replied Rory, who charged towards Droch. As he reached him, Rory reared straight up in the air, striking out with his front hooves Droch stumbled backwards in fear, almost bumping into Saoirse as he did. She was poised and ready with both back legs pointing towards him With one swift motion, she double-barreled the evil businessman, who fell flat on the ground. Droch let out a big yowl before managing to scramble to his feet and hobble off. The herd listened as his truck and trailer sped away “Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to go behind a horse?” Saoirse called after him, looking smug. The horses knew he would never try to bother them again and once word got out about what happened when he tried, neither would anyone else.
“Oh Lucky” Saoirse cooed, nuzzling her baby Lucky stood and blinked in confusion, wondering what all the commotion was about. “It’s not your fault you ’ re so wonderful. But don’t worry - with the good fortune you bring us all, we’ll never have to worry about anything like that ever again.”
And that was partially true Lucky’s special gift made the sun shine, the weather mild, and the food sources plentiful: but it was the herd’s incredible bond that kept everyone safe and happy The horses’ love for each other shrouded them in a blanket of protection, allowing them to all live eternally at peace by the sea.

Having been recognized as their own breed since the 1920s, the Irish Sport Horse originated from crossing an Irish Draught Horse with a Thoroughbred.
In the wild, horses can graze for 16-18 hours per day! With all that munching they do, what do you think the odds are that they’ve found a four-leaf clover?
Did you know some types of clover are good for horses to eat, while others aren’t? For example, red clover and white clover are nutritious for horses - but aslike clover can be toxic. Don’t go mixing them up!
