Introduction to Actus

We will guide you through our online appraisal system which is used to facilitate performance reviews throughout the firm. It encourages yearround conversations and ongoing feedback to put your personal development at the heart of the discussion. Actus is your key tool for setting objectives, preparing for and recording appraisals, logging 1-2-1 meeting with your manager, as well as your training and development needs.

This training is aimed at all new joiners and those wanting a refresher session on Actus, either as an appraiser or appraisee.

Everyone is welcome to attend these short sessions and training will be delivered virtually on MS Teams by Natasha Ireland (HR).

The sessions run monthly and you will need to register your attendance here by choosing one of the following dates:

Audit procedures for new hires

An introduction to Hazlewoods’ audit procedures for new experienced audit hires, covering a range of areas including:

(a) overall responsibility in the context of the engagement

(b) Hazlewoods methodology

(c) audit software, etc.

Dates

Everyone is welcome to attend these short sessions and training will be delivered in-person by David Main (Technical Partner).

This training is aimed at all new joiners and those wanting a refresher session on Actus, either as an appraiser or appraisee.

The sessions run six-monthly and you will need to register your attendance here by choosing one of the following dates:

Datasnipper

An introduction to Datasnipper, a tool used for data processing and reviewing in audit.

This training is aimed at all new starters who would be performing audit functions. Training session will include:

• Overview of the tools

• Examples of where to best use Datasnipper during an audit

• Tips for best use

Everyone is welcome to attend this short session and training will be delivered virtually on MS Teams by Fran Bolton (Audit).

This training is aimed at all new joiners and those wanting a refresher session on Actus, either as an appraiser or appraisee.

The session runs once a year on 18 May and you will need to register your attendance here.

New hires’ training covering the following:

Digita archival process

Rolling forward accounts/setting up a new client

Email management

Emails are a big part of our working day. We can receive so many that it doesn't take long for them to get wildly out of hand!

If your inbox makes you feel overwhelmed, then this training is here to help. The training includes:

 Practical tips; like useful settings to have on your Outlook

 A visualisation of the mindset we should be having when it comes to emails

 Step by step guide to what to do in an email panic

 How to fix bad email habits

There are many reasons why keeping a clear and organised inbox benefits our clients, our colleagues, and ourselves. This session is designed to guide you through simple, practical steps to help you achieve exactly that!

This training session will guide you through the basics:

Key ribbon tools - which of the more popular functions are on which tabs, etc?

Navigation - scroll bars, keyboard shortcuts, go to, find and replace.

Data entry - entering text, numbers, dates, formatting cells, auto fill/flash fill, wrapping text.

Basic formulas - SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, etc. (a quick recap rather than in-depth).

Absolute vs Relative Cell References - benefits of each.

Page setup and printing.

Excel - intermediate

This training session will guide you through:

• Functions - IF (potentially some other logical functions such as AND, OR), XLOOKUP, DATE, TODAY etc. (if time allows, and there is appetite for it, practice nested functions).

• Pivot tables - How to create and manipulate.

• Tables - Creating and formatting tables, sorting, filtering, structured references (why work with tables instead of fixed ranges?).

• Charts - Create various chart types (column, bar, pie, line). Add/edit chart elements (a very basic overview of charts, as they can quickly be customised and become complex).

• A brief overview of the following:

- Conditional Formatting - Highlight cells based on values, colour scales, icon sets.

- Data Validation - Create drop down lists, limit entries to certain values or types.

Everyone is welcome to attend this short session and training will be delivered virtually on MS Teams by Sophie Woodward (Tax).

The session runs once a year on 15 April and you will need to register your attendance here.

This is your chance to ask a member of the Finance team about any aspect of timesheets completion, such as:

How is glide time (flexi) calculated and how do I post it?

Which training matter should I use?

How do I add chargeable time?

Where can I find my flexi and holiday figures?

Writing Skills – Style and Structure

The aim of this course is to give participants the skills and confidence to produce professional business documents that communicate the relevant information concisely and are in line with the firm’s style and tone of voice.

This workshop will cover:

• Planning and preparation

• Report structure

• Hazlewoods brand tone of voice

• The Fog Index

• Visual impact

• Tables, charts and graphs

These short sessions are aimed at those of you who have recently qualified, or Associates and above who are new to the business. Training will be delivered in person by John Trimbos (Rhodes Training).
