You may have noticed it’s been a couple of weeks since our last newsletter—but we promise it’s for a good reason. Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on creating this new format to make our updates easier to read, more engaging, and a better reflection of everything happening in our community.

In the meantime, the Chamber has stayed busy! Over the past few weeks we’ve had the opportunity to be part of several exciting moments around the county— from supporting the annual Peaches to the Beaches yard sale to celebrating local businesses through ribbon cuttings and honoring outstanding students and educators at our STAR Student/Teacher Luncheon.

Annual Chamber Gala

Chamber Members & Friends, GOOD NEWS--tickets to our annual Chamber Gala are on sale NOW! Join your Chamber friends on May 7 as we celebrate the end of the program year, reflect on this year's achievements, honor some impressive people/organizations, and enjoy great entertainment.

This year's theme is Denim & Diamonds, so dress in your best western elegance attire and be prepared to line dance the night away. (We hear there may even be some bull riding involved )

STAR Student & Teacher Luncheon

We were proud to represent Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County at the regional STAR Student-STAR Teacher luncheon hosted at Okefenokee Country Club on March 5 . This event honored exceptional students from all over our region but most importantly our very own Vincent Ly and his STAR teacher, Jonathan Jordan. The Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis Chamber of Commerce is honored to be the sponsor for our local STAR Student and STAR Teacher.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achieve Recognition (STAR) program honor highest-achieving high school seni teachers who have made a lasting their academic journey. Since its fo

1958 by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the program has recognized nearly 30,500 outstanding students and the educators they selected to share in this prestigious honor.

To be nominated, students must earn the highest SAT score at their school on a single test date through November of their senior year and rank in the top 10 percent of their class or among the top 10 students based on GPA. STAR Students then select a teacher—any Pre-K through 12th grade educator who has been instrumental in their success—to be recognized alongside them as STAR Teachers. Winners advance from school and system levels to regional competition across Georgia, with regional winners moving on to the state level for additional recognition, scholarships, and awards.

Peaches to the Beaches 2026

There’s just something special about Peaches to the Beaches weekend. The treasure hunting, the stories behind every booth, and the familiar faces you run into along the way—it’s a tradition that brings our community together year after year. We’re proud that the Hazlehurst–Jeff Davis County Chamber gets to play a part in helping make it happen right here in our town. Through the Georgia Heart Program, rural hospitals can connect patients to advanced care without leaving their community. The Georgia HEART (Help Enhance Access to Rural Treatment) Hospital Program is a state initiative allowing taxpayers to receive a 100% Georgia income tax credit for contributions made to qualified rural hospitals. Quality healthcare isn’t just for big cities. It’s right here, where home is.

The Georgia HEART Program is a program that simply allows you to take the money you already owe for state taxes and redirect it to an eligible rural hospital, such as Jeff Davis Hospital. Typically, when you pay your state taxes that money goes into a general fund. Instead of sending your tax money into that general fund you, through HEART you can now redirect those state taxes directly to Jeff Davis Hospital and keep your taxes local! It’s a great way to make a transformational difference in rural healthcare in our community at no extra expense to you.
