Our Latest Reviews

The Overview

The ethos of sparking creativity in children and teaching them how to think for themselves means...everyone thrives.

Hazelwood’s ethos is people-centred and forward-thinking. Children are encouraged to make choices, take sensible risks and build the skills they’ll need long after prep school ends.

The Head

A progressive thinker with one eye firmly on the future. She’s deeply passionate about bringing out the best in every child and inspiring a genuine love of learning.

Pastoral Care

Wellbeing is not a standalone concept at Hazelwood; instead, it’s woven seamlessly into the fabric of everyday life.

In 2025, a new Wellbeing Hub opened. It’s a thoughtfully designed space...calm, purposeful and very much in keeping with the school’s people-first ethos.

Academics

We love Mrs Louw’s efforts to champion school-wide participation in stimulating activities run under the umbrella of a motivational termly theme. Easy confidence is instilled from an early stage.

Sport

Chris Robshaw, former England rugby captain...coaches pupils weekly across a range of sports, bringing top-tier expertise to the pitches and plenty of inspiration to boot.

Music

Hazelwood is filled with children who can play a host of instruments.

The Arts

Art lessons are delivered in bright, stimulating spaces furnished with cutting machines, work benches, 3D printers and laser cutters.

Facilities

Facilities are enviable - there’s an indoor pool, a vast sports hall...not to mention countless playing fields and a cross-country course.

Drama

Productions are approached with a sense of fun and creativity. One pupil even wrote their own panto, including the songs, for a preChristmas show.

Co-Curricular

After-school clubs are varied and extensive. In Years 7 & 8, pupils are invited to take their pick from a varied range of ‘electives’ on a Friday afternoon, that includes fashion design, robotics...and stock market clubs.

While Hazelwood School’s academics are undeniably strong, it’s the extras that really make the school sparkle. Opportunities are abundant...but also a host of real-world projects that let children put their learning into action.

Final Verdict

This prep’s innovative approach to learning takes your breath away. Bold moves such as flexible classrooms and giving children their own agency yields fantastic results.

It’s clear that for many families, Hazelwood isn’t just a school - it’s a community. It’s a place where children feel nurtured, challenged, and inspired, and where parents feel fully part of the journey.
