Consecration Sunday is Coming During morning worship on Consecration Sunday October 27, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world. Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily while attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday October 27. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card. We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship our Pastor will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, followed by opportunity time for you to make commitments as a confidential act of worship. We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration Sunday team and Church Council members. We will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship. Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events. What it Takes to Become a Stephen Minister (And What do you Receive in Return?) It is possible that Stephen Ministry has crossed your mind a few times. You might even have picked up a brochure or talked with your pastor about it. But now you want to take a closer look at the idea of becoming a Stephen Minister. You’re wondering: Is this right for me? Following are some guidelines that might help you in your decision making. Gifts A Stephen Minister is a person with the gift of mercy, who shows compassion and gives encouragement to and intercedes for those he or she cares for. Many Stephen Ministers say that they receive much more from the caring relationship with their care receiver than they give. Commitment A Stephen Minister devotes time, energy, and resources to this ministry. In return, a Stephen Minister has the chance to participate in meaningful ministry, make a major difference in another’s personal life, and grow as a joyous child of God. Training A Stephen Minister completes 50 hours of training before ever meeting with a care receiver. He or she learns about listening, assertiveness, confidentiality, and many other aspects of caregiving. After completing the initial training, he or she engages in continuing education. Stephen Ministers find that their relationships become richer and deeper at home, church, work, and with friends. Dedicated Service A Stephen Minister serves whole heartedly. This isn’t a casual ministry. It involves prayer, thought, consideration, study, and commitment. In return, the Stephen Minister receives grateful thanks from his or her care receiver, or Stephen Leaders, the congregation, and our Lord.
Stephen Ministry Continued Accountability A Stephen Minister is accountable to God, the congregation, the Stephen Leaders, the other Stephen Ministers, and the care receiver. In return, he or she receives support, encouragement, and guidance in Small Group Peer Supervision. Continuous Learning A Stephen Minister is open to adjusting and adapting his or her caregiving to fit the needs of the care receiver. He or she learns more about caregiving at each meeting with a care receiver and at each supervision session. Stephen Ministry is an experience of continuous learning, growth, and joy. A new training class for Stephen Ministry is starting soon. The Holy Spirit may be calling you to the joy, commitment, growth, meaning, training, service, and care of being a Stephen Minister. Pray for God’s guidance as you consider this opportunity. A Huge THANK YOU to Nancy Williams!! When you see Nancy, please take a moment to shake her hand and tell her, "Thank you!", for her gift to God and His children this past summer. Nancy felt a call from God to teach all the favorite and important Bible stories to the children, so she created amazing lessons around these (crafts, games, stories), and taught almost every Sunday this summer. The kids loved her and what they learned, and the assistant teachers were enthralled. Nancy not only fed our children God's Word, but she also gave our regular Sunday School teachers the summer off. What a super gift, Nancy! Your church family thanks you!!

Where Do They Get Those Beautiful Flowers? Have you ever wondered where the altar flowers end up after Sunday services? Long ago, Haymount had a group of church members that made up a team known as the Flower Ministry. Recently, another small group of members has come together to resurrect this wonderful outreach program. With donated vases and recycled flowers, members hand deliver these flowers to other fellow members that need a "visit". Whether it be a celebration, an illness, or the loss of a family member, our altar flowers are taken to show the love of Christ from Haymount UMC. We would love to have you as a part of this outreach team. All positions offer flexibility to fit your schedule. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry, we have a variety of openings. The Bell Banner and “All Saints” What is a bell banner? Colorful ribbons are suspended from a stand. Tiny bells are pinned to the ribbons in memory of a saint (or saints) who has influenced our lives of faith. In Scripture the word “saint” is applied to all disciples of Jesus Christ. A saint is “holy”; in other words, different from the kingdom of this world because he/she lives in “the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.” You see, saints don’t have to be perfect, just faithful! For millennia, bells have been used in worship to signify the holy presence of God. We use them on All Saints Sunday to signify also the holy presence of those who have gone on before us, leaving our lives richer, better, and more Christlike than they might otherwise be. As the banner is carried down the center aisle on All Saints Sunday, you will hear the soft tinkling of many bells—and perhaps the soft, sweet whispers of those whom we memorialize. The empty banner will be placed by the sanctuary doors beginning Sunday, October 13. Take one (or more) of the bells provided and prayerfully pin it to a ribbon. May our bell banner ring to the glory of God and “For All the Saints, who from their labors rest.”

Mark your calendar and invite friends and neighbors for this Family day of fun from 2:30-7:15pm. We will travel to Naylor Family Farm by church bus and vans to enjoy a corn maze, the playground and a hayride, plus much more. We will roast hot dogs over a campfire. But before we return to the church, we will have S’More fun! We will return back to the church by 7:15pm. This is for all families of all ages!!! The cost is $10.00 per person or a family maximum of $50.00. We need to have your reservation, payment and form by Noon on October 18, 2019.
