Money seems to have a mind of its own, and it takes a lot of determination on our part to take control of it. This is one of the secrets to a happy life. For those who are married, it is one of the secrets to a happy marriage. An Update From Our Kitchen After much consideration of all factors involved, the Staff Parish Relations Committee has decided not to hire a Director of Kitchen Ministries at this time. The good food we have been served from Kinlaw’s and the very economical cost of their service is a major piece of this decision. We will continue to use their catering and rotate the menus as we go. Make those WEF reservations! Emily High will remain as Kitchen Assistant and will provide salads and desserts as needed. As always, she will need volunteers to assist in serving and cleanup on both Wednesday nights and Thursday lunch. Please email Dorothy.Funkhouser@Haymountumc.com or contact the church office to schedule a date or dates to serve. The Menus for November are: 11/6 - Pork chops, whole potatoes and cabbage 11/13 - Baked chicken, rice and black-eyed peas 11/20 - Honey Ham, potato salad and green beans 11/27 - NO MEAL IMPORTANT NOTE: Any group wanting to use the kitchen will need to schedule access with Nicole. Each group will be responsible for cleaning all areas of use and removing all leftover food. Due to our limited storage space, please do not leave any food in the kitchen after meetings or use of the kitchen. WEF Dinner Serving Times Changed Beginning November 6th, the serving times for the Wednesday evening meal will be changed to 5:15-6:15pm. If you haven't ever been to the family meal on Wednesday evenings, this is a good time to start. The meals are great, the company is even better. Serving our College Students at Methodist Univ. On the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving Day, Methodist University hosts a Thanksgiving meal for its international students. Area churches are invited to bring sides or desserts and share the meal with them. This fellowship meal happens from 5-7pm. For more information: drelizabethtyson@haymountumc.com
Coming to Haymount soon - A New Pictorial Directory Photographers will be here January 2, 3 and 4. They will return January 23, 24 and 25. Early January may seem like a strange time to be taking pictures, but school is still out. Many colleges and universities have not gone back to class. Our hope is that families with college age children will be able to schedule their photographs then. We hope that it will be easier for educators to schedule pictures before children are back in classes. We hope that it will be easier for parents to schedule pictures when they do not have to worry about children completing homework or getting to sports practices. Take a look at your schedule, and see if these dates might work well for you. We are not quite ready to begin making appointments. Keep an eye out for announcements in the e-update and in the Sunday morning bulletins. We would really like to see your smiling face in our directory.

Thank You from Curamericas Global Thank you to Haymount UMC for 30 years of generous support including Christmas to Remember in 2011. Your support allows us to save the lives of Moms and Babies around the world and here in NC. We serve the most needy, going to places no one else will go because it is too remote or distant. We are compelled by our compassion for the most vulnerable. Babies cannot take themselves to a doctor, all they can do is cry and hope. We bring Hope through Health to over 100,000 people each year. Using our data-driven methodology, we can measure our impact in real time and since 1983 we have reached over 1.4 million people, saving thousands of lives. We recently met a mom who didn’t know what types of food to give her baby. Anna saw her baby girl, Cynthia, distressed and crying constantly . She thought it was colic and “a baby being a baby." Our team was trusted by Anna and used regular data collection to see the baby not growing like it should. They learned Anna was mixing herbs with water to give her newborn strength and reduce crying. In reality, it was this that was causing the upset stomach. Anna, as a mom, was so thankful to know how she could help her baby. If it wasn’t for Curamericas Global and the data we use to quickly reach the most needy, Cynthia would have continued to not gain weight as she should, potentially leading to life-long effects. There are thousands of moms and babies like Anna that we are helping. We couldn’t do it without you. Please keep us in your prayers as we fight for the most needy. Thank you,

Garage Sale The garage sale is almost upon us. November 9 is coming soon. Items can be brought to the church now and placed in the basement, or you can wait and bring them straight to the Fellowship Hall the week of November 3rd. Your help is needed. We will be at work Sunday the third from 12:30 through the afternoon. We will be setting up tables, bringing items up from the basement and starting to put things out on the tables. We will be working Monday through Friday from 10 AM until 4 PM getting items priced and put out. We also need people to help out on Saturday the ninth during the sale, and at 1 o’clock - after the sale - to help clean up. Did You Know? Haymount UMC has a system in place for church members to report maintenance items that need to be addressed. Instead of trying to catch a Trustee in the hallway between Sunday School and Worship and hoping they remember what you are reporting, visit the church website under "About Us" and choose the link to "Forms and Policies." Follow the very first link on the "Forms and Policies" page to the "Work Order Request." The Work Order system uses Google Forms to collect your contact information and a quick description of the location you want to report and what needs to be addressed. This will help the Trustees and the staff track maintenance requests more effectively, and you won't have to wonder if the person you reported the problem to forgot about it because the sermon was so good that morning! Thanks to everyone for caring about our beautiful facility and doing your part to help us effectively maintain it! Blessings!!

Organist Comings and Goings Many thanks to Father Jack Morrison, who was our interim organist for the past few months. His good humor and friendly demeanor have endeared him to all of us. His last Sunday in that role was October 14. After that he was scheduled for some surgery and a few weeks of recuperation. Please pray for a speedy recovery. Monica Sparzak is our guest organist through November 3. The first Sunday for our permanent organist, Dr. Timothy J. Belk, will be November 10. Dr. Belk will be with us on Wednesday nights for choir practice, and on Sunday mornings for worship, and of course for weddings and funerals. Tim has an extremely impressive resume, and his ability is well-known throughout the state. We are grateful for Father Jack and to Monica Sparzak, and we are excited to welcome our superb permanent organist, Dr. Timothy Belk.
From Your Missionaries Dear Friends of Haymount UMC, Fayetteville, NC Greetings from my family and friends in Ghana. I trust you and your families are doing great. We cannot forget joining in the worship service of Sunday, November 5, 2017 in Fayetteville. We look forward to another visit next year. You will recall I visited together with my daughter Selma. She is progressing steadily with her Medical studies here in Ghana. My family is doing well. Selma's elder brother Toni was blessed to secure a visa for studies in Canada. He is studying for the Masters in Actuarial Science at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He left Ghana on September 5 and has settled down quite quickly. Selma is done with the pre-clinical studies at the Medical School here in Ghana. She appreciates your support that has contributed to ease her finances and to give her a peace of mind to pursue her studies. I have attached her recent report to this newsletter for your attention. She looks forward to hearing from you. My ministry in Ghana has been highly favored by the Lord. Together with farmers of two beneficiary communities, we organized an 18-week long farmer field school that trained about 100 farmers in organic agriculture. There were challenges along the way attributed mainly to lack of rainfall in the major rainy season of April to September. We have not been spared from the effects of climate change. We have therefore been emphasizing on practices that mitigate against climate change. This has been the subject of my current newsletter. (Continued on next page)

From Your Missionaries Continued I have also attached photos of positive outcomes from the Farmer Field School especially depicting the good results from use of organic pesticides and fertilizers on the crops which compared very favorably with crops that received conventional treatment of chemical pesticides.
