Dear Friends, As I write this on August 19, one question on all our minds is, “when will church start meeting inside?� Some of us think it is past time to go back in. Some of us think we should wait a while longer. Next week, the Church Council will talk about this question and make a decision. They may choose a date for re-entry, or they may stick with their original decision to wait for Phase 3. I will be sure to let you know their decision. Meanwhile, we are having live worship in the cloister on Sunday mornings at 7:30 and 8:45am. This is a beautiful experience, and there is plenty of room. Bring a chair, a mask, and a heart for God. Or worship in your pajamas as you join us online! The children, youth and scouts are meeting outside and
having fun. Preschool is also up and running, and there are a few openings. Dr. Monica Sparzak joined our staff on August 17 as Director of Traditional Music. We are excited to welcome this Dunn native with a fistful of degrees from impressive institutions (Salem College, Emory, University of Michigan) and a heartful of love. She has excellent plans for our worship and music programs, even amid the concerns with Covid. Joy ahead! The organ renovation, sanctuary acoustics, and new rank of trumpet pipes are moving ahead right on schedule. We expect everything to be ready by November 22. However, because of Covid concerns, the 75th Anniversary Committee has decided to schedule our celebrations for next year. Your giving this summer has been so faithful! Thank you for your generosity in spreading the love of Jesus in a Covid world. We continue to need your support. With brotherly love to each of you,

September/October Teaching Series Six Secrets to Abundant Living The book of James is packed tight with secrets to Abundant Living. During September and October, we will unpack these secrets together. Why do I call them secrets? For a couple of reasons. First, these teachings are based on God’s wisdom and not on worldly wisdom. The world’s wisdom is counterfeit; it sounds good, but it leads to a hollow life of despair. God’s wisdom brings us what Jesus called, “Abundant Living.” Second, these secrets are packed with such extreme density that we might gloss right over them unless we are studying them with eyes and hearts opened by the Holy Spirit. Join us for these teachings that will bring you joy, strength, and abundant living.

Covid 19 Protocol Beginning August 2020 Please do not enter the building or participate in any in-person group gatherings if: • In the last 14 days • You have tested positive for COVID-19 • You or anyone in your household has been tested for COVID-19 • You or anyone in your household thinks they could have COVID-19 …or if you or anyone in your household (including children) have one of these symptoms or have been in close contact with anyone with one of these symptoms: • Cough • Recent shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • Fever Or at least two of these symptoms: • Chills • New loss of taste or smell • Vomiting/diarrhea (children) If you have any of these symptoms, contact a health professional. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Be aware, you are at higher risk if you are: • Age 65 years or older • Pregnant (It is not yet known if pregnant women are high risk but pregnant women should protect themselves from all infectious diseases.) or have any of these health conditions: • Chronic illness such as lung disease or moderate to severe asthma, Heart • disease, Immunocompromised, including those undergoing cancer treatment, Severe obesity, Diabetes, Renal failure, Liver disease Health Check for in-person small group gatherings Leaders will conduct a standard daily health check on every person, every day and exclude if he/she has a temperature above 100.4 or any symptoms listed above. In all gatherings, social distancing of at least six feet will be practiced. Each ministry area will have hand sanitizer available, and every participant must wear a mask until further notice.
75th Celebration The 75th Anniversary committee has decided to postpone the big fall events and move them closer to the 76th Anniversary. The 22 November Sunday will be recognized and the 75th banner unveiled - but the one big service, meal, and dance will happen sometime closer to November 2021.
