Get Ready Among the many events here at HUMC canceled by COVID was the celebration of the 75th anniversary of our founding. The Delta Variant notwithstanding, we are planning a gala redux. Yes, we shall celebrate our 75th on our 76th. Funny math. Fun occasion. It will be a streamlined version of what was originally planned. For example, the dance is no longer on the table (no pun intended). Everything will take place in the traditional morning worship service on November 21, the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving Day. Why did we pick that day? We didn't. Our forebears did! The first official worship service of the newly formed Haymount Methodist Church took place Thanksgiving Day, 1945. So in addition to giving thanks for God's abundance throughout our lives, we shall also give thanks for our beloved family of faith. Here are some highlights: 1. Featured will be a banner designed and fabricated by our own gifted artists. It was begun last year for our 75th as indicated in large, colorful letters. It captures our iconic landmarks from the Gothic spire to the Southern Magnolia tree, ya'II. 2. When it comes to music, we shall pull out all the stops (pun intended). Certainly, our organist will! Other instrumentalists will lend their lovely strains. The choir will thrill us with grand and glorious songs of praise. The congregation will have its part too, through seasonal hymnody. Even the chancel, bedecked with a beautiful array of earth's bounty, will join in: "All the world is God's own field, fruit as praise to God we yield." (Continued on Page 4)
Get Ready Continued 3. A brief history of the church will be presented in a video featuring members who remember "the way it was." Guess what! We are blessed to still have among us charter members - they joined as infants, you understand. 4. A luncheon will follow worship. No charge, but registration is required by November 14. Just call or email the church office, or indicate on your pew registration card. The Celebration Luncheon will be a dine-in affair. The cooks among us will be relieved to know that it is catered, not a covered dish. There will be plenty of those come Turkey Day! Please, mark your calendar and "Come ye thankful people, come" to join us for this very special day in the life of Haymount United Methodist Church. It won't be the same without you!

Soles for Souls: A Hands Up Ministry Thank you for ALL the shoes you gave - nearly 500 pairs!!! These shoes will help Partners in Ministry, the only NC Conference National Institute, with funds to build a facility to assist even more people than they help now. You gave a "Hands Up" on this endeavor. SCHOLARSHIP Rebecca Black has received a scholarship from the North Carolina Conference United Methodist Women to attend Duke University where she will receive a Masters degree in Management. Congratulations, Rebecca!
A Word About the Garage Sale A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who donated items, carried items, set up tables and tables of treasures, cleared out the Fellowship Hall, purged closets, attics, basements, and garages for our Fall Garage Sale!! We raised over $4000 for Habitat for Humanity and hurricane relief work teams. Well done!

HUMC Endowment Program in Action The Endowment Committee is delighted to announce the details of two new endowment funds to benefit HUMC: *Tony and Karen Argo Endowment Fund - the income from this fund will support music, art and children’s ministries at HUMC. This fund has been started by friends of the Argos. *Barkman Mission 50/50 Endowment Fund - the income from this fund will support missions with up to 50% local/USA and at least 50% international missions. This fund has been established by Karen and David Barkman. Hear ye, hear ye!! The YULETIDE FEASTE has returned! Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, requests your presence at her Yuletide Feaste, December 3 and 4, in the year of our Lord 2021 at 7:30PM. The Queen will continue her visit to the New Life Center of the Haymount United Methodist Church as the location for the festivities. The Feaste is a Renaissance-style engagement featuring elegant sides and desserts, a festive banquet hall setting, a large cast of costumed characters straight out of Tudor England, and Methodist University students singing carols of the Christmas season. The ticket prices are $40/person, and $35 for tickets purchased in groups of 3 or more. Do mark your calendars, lest ye make the Queen chafed! Join us, Lords and Ladies all! Haymount UMC is a Safe Sanctuaries Congregation What does that mean to you? Ministry leaders working with children, youth and vulnerable adults: you are responsible to keep the children, youth or adults safe while signed in to your ministry. You must abide by the Safe Sanctuaries Policy and Guidelines, and must be trained in Safe Sanctuaries practices and pass a back-ground check. Parents/guardians/adult family members: you are responsible for your child, youth or family member until they are signed into a ministry with a ministry leader present. You are also responsible to sign them out of the ministry to again assume responsibility for the child's/youth's safety. Congregation: you are asked to be vigilant. If a child, youth or vulnerable adult is alone in the hallways, please help them find a parent or a ministry leader to help locate the responsible adult. Together we can keep our children, youth and vulnerable adults safe, and truly be a Safe Sanctuary. Thank you for your help!
Youth News The days are getting short. I’m starting to get up in the mornings when it’s dark outside. I get home and it’s dark yet again. I love this time of year, with the changing leaves, pumpkin spice, argyle sweaters, and colder air. But the darkness is always so difficult. I am so thankful for the Light that we have in Jesus. When we are fighting away the dark, we always have God on our side to light the way. His light is enough for all of us. Despite all the evil, destruction, pain, and sin in the world, we have hope in Jesus. We know that God fulfills God’s promises and will make everything right in the end. This month, let’s be thankful for all the blessings we have received! Remember the Light and those we love and those who love us. Remember all the good things we have through God’s grace! Plan Ahead! Upcoming Children's Ministry Schedule Parents, here's a look ahead into the holidays for your calendars. There are so many exciting ways for your child to serve in worship and celebrate the great event of the birth of our Lord Jesus during this Season of Advent.

Saturday, December 4th - Moravian Celebration of Candles and Tea, in the Fellowship Hall Children in Kindergarten through Fifth Grades will participate in this traditional Moravian celebration. We will gather from 10am-12n to make our own candles, bake our own Moravian rolls and make our own milk coffee, eat and enjoy our creations while watching the Christmas story, and then make our own aprons that we will wear when serving at the Moravian Love Feast.
Sunday, December 5th - Moravian Love Feast, in the Fellowship Hall The children will serve the meal during this Moravian worship service and get to sit together while feasting with the others. Sunday, December 12th @ 9am and 11am worship services - Children's Nativity. Children, ages 4-years-old through Fifth Grade are invited to dress up in costumes and participate in a Christmas play (there is no memorization!) about the birth of Jesus that will be held during the worship services. Sunday, December 12th @ 5pm-7pm - 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, in the New Life Center We will hear the story read by Santa, then hear the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke told, and then we will go into our gingerbread house workshop. All supplies for the gingerbread houses will be provided. While the houses (or churches, or castles, or....) are being built, the children will be able to shop,with the help of elves, for $1 gifts for family members. Friday, December 24th - 4pm Christmas Eve Service with a focus on children's participation, in the New Life Center. This will be a super fun, participatory worship experience for the children that will focus on the Christmas Carol, "Silent Night". The children are asked to bring a baby gift for Baby Jesus. These gifts will be donated to The Methodist Home for Children's teen parent program. If you would like to register your child for any of these events in advance, please email Dorothy.Funkhouser@Haymountumc.com. May this be a truly transformational Advent and Christmas season for you and your family.
