Sometimes our common sense wants to over rule the guidance of God. Sometimes what the Holy Spirit is leading us to do seems somehow impractical. But if we are certain the Lord is leading, it is always better to just go ahead and follow Him! I have learned from experience that the goodness of His direction always exceeds my expectations; the misfortune of any decisions made apart from His wisdom and guidance do also!

The book of Proverbs has always been one of my favorites. I started reading it regularly as a teenager because I knew I lacked wisdom. By reading words of wisdom from the Bible, I hoped the Lord would answer my prayer to teach me wisdom and discernment. As the years have gone by, I have continued to read Proverbs over and over; hardly a week goes by that I don’t read from Proverbs. Of all the passages from Proverbs, my favorite is Chapter 3. I particularly like its wise advice about trusting the Lord.

Calling All Older Adults! The newly formed Older Adults Council needs your help. The Council has developed a survey for Older Adults which will give us suggestions about how best to plan meaningful and helpful activities for you. When the surveys reach you in the next few weeks, please complete your survey and return it to Amy in the Church Office. Your ideas will be very valuable to the Council in its planning. Our goal is to offer the love of Christ to each of you, so your help is vital in helping direct our planning. Thank you for your input. Keep looking, the survey is on its way! Preschool Open House It's time to meet your teachers and get ready to head back to school! Our annual open house will be on Wednesday, August 21 at 4:30PM.
Back to School/Blessing of the Back Packs The first day of public school as well as HUMC Preschool is Monday, August 26th! Be sure to join us the Sunday before, at 5:00pm to pray over the school year to come and have a blessing of the back packs! A Hot dog supper will follow the service.

It Takes a Village Another school year is just around the corner and it is important for you to know what is happening at our preschool. Currently, we have a staff of twenty dedicated, talented teachers who love, teach and nurture approximately 130 children. We are busy learning, growing and having fun! Our preschool is committed to serving the families who enter our building every day. We share God’s love with children and parents alike. Our children learn their letters, numbers and manners all while experiencing God’s love and exploring His world. We want our church family to be a part of the many wonderful things taking place in our classrooms and playgrounds every day. Did you know that we offer Music/Chapel and P.E. resource classes for all children? Did you know that we have a scholarship fund to help families who need a little extra help? Would your Sunday School class, small group or circle consider adopting a class to help with special projects or supplies? “It takes a village” to raise and support children. The “village” of Haymount UMC is one of the best. Join us as we teach and nurture God’s precious treasures. Kids Konnect/Kids Sunday School Co-Teachers Do you find it in your heart to teach God’s children God’s Holy Word? We have various opportunities for adults to build a relationship with our children by opening to them a relationship with our Awesome God. Be a mentor to the future of the church: Prepare lessons weekly with user-friendly materials; pray for the students; arrive at 9:30am on Sunday mornings to set up classroom and welcome children; co-teach and enjoy the children until 10:45am. Requirements: Love for our God; Commitment and Love to His children; Complete a Safe Sanctuaries training and paperwork. We are a Safe Sanctuaries® Congregation What is it? Why do we do it?
Haymount UMC is committed to doing ministry in a most excellent way – all to glorify our Most Excellent and Holy God! With that, we provide ministries that are safe for our children, teens and vulnerable adults. That is what a Safe Sanctuaries® Congregation does! How does this affect you, you ask? Everyone is involved in making Haymount UMC a safe haven for all God’s children. Parents of children and teens – you are required to bring your child and teen to the ministry area, and for children, you must sign your child in and provide necessary information. Teens are asked to sign in when arriving at the ministry area. Parents, please be sure, before you leave your child for ministry, that a responsible adult is present in the meeting space. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILD AND TEEN UNATTENDED!! The sign-in procedure is a communication tool which informs the ministry leaders that they are taking over responsibility for the safety of your child or teen. When the ministry is over, you must sign your child and teen out of the ministry for accountability. Children and Teens – you are required to remain with your group at all times and do not walk the halls alone. Many exterior doors are open during ministry times, and anyone has access to the building. Allow an adult to bring you to your ministry area and sign you in and out. Do not walk alone! Ministry Leaders – all ministry leaders are trained in best practices to keep your child, teen and vulnerable adult safe during ministry times. When a child, teen or vulnerable adult is not signed in, the parent or guardian is responsible for the safety of their charge while on the church campus. Ministry leaders are also trained to report any alleged physical or sexual abuse to the proper authorities. North Carolina is a mandatory reporting state. Congregation as a whole – you are asked to be vigilant while on the church campus, speaking to individuals you may not know, asking how you can help them find what they are looking for. As a team, we are more effective. Be informed and be proactive. If you have any questions regarding Safe Sanctuaries®, please contact Dorothy Funkhouser in the church office. Have you logged onto ACS yet? Did you know that ACS provides an electronic Church directory? You can use the ACS website: (haymountumc.com/about-us/members-portal-acs/) as an online directory to find family and contact information for members of Haymount UMC. You can also upload a photo of yourself and your family so that other members can put a face with your name. Here is how to do that: Online: 1. Log into ACS 2. Click on Home and open up the drop down menu. Select My Profile from the drop down menu. 3. Under the My Profile tab, select Edit in the upper right hand corner. 4. On the next screen, select Personal Photo (blue button on the upper right portion of the screen). 5. Choose a photo file on your computer or device to upload. 6. Finally, click save. Church Life Mobile App: 1. Open the app on your phone and sign in. 2. Using the menu, select People. Type in your name and then select yourself. 3. In the upper right hand corner, select the pencil key. Then click on your picture. 4. Take a photo of yourself or select one from your phone. 5. Select the camera button with the arrow. This will upload your photo! Once your request to add a photo to your profile has been approved, it will show up in ACS. If you do not have an ACS account, please contact Nicole.Andre@haymountumc.com to set one up.
