Layout Chair demonstrates a flexible and innovative design, offering a fully customisable range shaped by a commitment to comfort and functionality. Characterised by the opening in the backrest, the design provides greater comfort while giving its appearance a sense of lightness and transparency. Defined by its open-back shell, Layout offers a sense of lightness – both visually and physically –while offering natural, responsive support. With countless combinations of shells, bases, and legs, it transitions effortlessly between offices, public spaces, and domestic settings – delivering comfort, flexibility, and a refined expression wherever it is placed.

Design by Julien Renault
French designer Julien Renault blends rational methods with artistic freedom in his approach to design. Based in Brussels, he draws inspiration from everyday life, transforming the ordinary into something beautiful. His work for numerous international brands reflects the deep connection between objects and their environments. For HAY, Julien has designed the Pastis Table and Chair series, the Layout Chair series, the Compass Lamp collection, and the Deville collection.
Product Sustainability
Made from at least 96% post-consumer recycled plastic sourced from European household waste. The plastic is processed into recycled pellets and reused in the production of the chair’s shell.

EU Ecolabel
The Layout Collection carries the EU Ecolabel – one of Europe’s most rigorous environmental certifications, evaluating products across the full product life cycle, including materials, chemicals, durability, and repairability. For upholstered versions, full certification is achieved when specified with an EU Ecolabel-certified textile.
FSC certification
Layout Chairs with wooden parts are FSC™-certified (FSC-C148805). FSC™ certification ensures responsible forestry with environmental, social, and economic safeguards throughout the supply chain, covering the wooden components of the chair.
Designed for Disassembly
True to design for disassembly principles, all Layout designs can be renewed and refurbished throughout their lifecycle. All components can be removed and replaced to extend the product’s usable lifespan well into the future.

Removable Cover
The replaceable cover enables replacement to refresh and prolong the product’s functional life, making refurbishment simple and extending its lifespan. Upholstered versions feature a replaceable cover that enables EU Ecolabel certification when specified with a wide range of approved textiles.

Layout Chair
