In the midst of alcohol and drug addiction issues in Footscray, this project proposes an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Dependance Rehabilitation Centre. The proposition aims for a communitybased healthcare facility to support treatment.
Architecture not only provide spaces for rehabilitation but also as a tool for social change, as this project’s purpose is to destigmatize AOD addiction patients with the help of a social buffer layer. The design adopts adaptive-reuse architecture, as how this approach gives second life to old buildings, this rehabilitation centre can also give second life to its patients.

Merri Creek, or once called the Merri-Merri was important for aborigins’ daily activities; they hunted animals and collected food sources (fish, eels, possum), they collected Paperbark tree barks for making shelters, and made campfires and sat in circle for social gathering and ceremonies (corroboree).
Bringing back the past and natural elements and adding Brunswick’s current context, ReImagining Merri Creek is a public urban nature space with market and social spaces for Brunswick people. Acts as a space to breathe, the waters resembles the Merri Creek, the trees and timbers resembles how trees are used for shelters, and modern materials such as concrete, bricks, steel, and aluminium resembles Brunswick’s industrial identity.
