TYREEK “THE CHEETAH” HILL IS ALREADY ON THE PROWL AND CHASING GREATNESS IN THE MAGIC CITY. BY LAURA SCHREFFLER PHOTOGRAPHY NICK GARCIA STYLING ELYSZE HELD GROOMING LESLIE MUNSELL SHOT ON LOCATION AT THE FOUR SEASONS RESIDENCES, MIAMI
@hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 15
yreek Hill has a secret. Or, should I say, rather, he had a secret (sorry, Tyreek). The newly minted Miami Dolphin wide receiver has slyly kept a home in the Magic City since 2018 — back when he was still very much an integral part of the Kansas City Chiefs. “I’ve had a place here for about four years now, but nobody really knew about it. You’ve got to be very discreet with what you do,” the 28-year-old athlete sagely confides during our May Zoom call. Hill has been biding his time and plotting his move for years now. First, he rented. Then, he purchased a place in south Florida, but sold it after buying a $1.3 million mansion in Lees Summit, Missouri, during his tenure with the Chiefs. But he just couldn’t quit Florida, and so he decided to invest in a Southwest Ranches mansion. Which, in the end, was the right call. “I’m just happy I don’t have to leave now!” he declares. Hill, a Pearson, Georgia, native, finally got his wish to become an official Miamian on March 23, when he was traded to the Dolphins. It was a big win, and not just because of his love for the location alone: his transition was a huge financial score given that he signed a 4-year, $120 million extension, including $72.2 million guaranteed, earning him the distinction of now being the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. To be honest, as much as he loved his years in Kansas City — where he played exclusively for the same team he was first signed by in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft — Miami is much more his speed. And when your nickname is “the cheetah,” that speed is superfast. “Man, this city is always alive!” he enthuses of his now-permanent home. “There’s never a dull moment. There’s plenty of variety here as far as food, as far as people, as far as clubs, or whatever the case may be. You literally have a diverse situation with everything. There are so many cultures, so many things to learn. I just love it out here.” It’s his vibe all day, every day, he says. Beach, sun, fun, repeat — especially in the off-season, when he and his kids can loaf on the sand, and he can play beach volleyball to his heart’s content. “I can literally stay on the beach all day,” he admits. “I’m chilling, catching nice vibes, getting that vitamin D year-round, baby!” Hill’s excitement is palatable, but it also seems to be his natural state of being. Exuberance, excitement, and inexhaustible joie de vivre spills out of him like sweat. But really, what isn’t there to be happy about? The sun is shining, he’s surrounded by friends and family, including his mom, who’s currently in the kitchen making him chicken, and it’s the off-season, so he’s allowing himself the luxury of “eating like crap” with copious amounts of Popeyes and a plethora of glazed donuts. All is right with the world. 16 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com

“THE CHEETAH WAY OF LIFE IS TO BE PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO. LOVE EVERY SECOND, LOVE EVERY MOMENT; I CHASE GREATNESS.” Yet, as exciting as it is, moving to Miami isn’t all fun and games for Hill — he’s got a purpose in being here, after all. Despite having won a Super Bowl with Kansas City (LIV in 2020), his extravagant paycheck, having been selected to six Pro Bowls in six years, and being named to the NFL2010s AllDecade Team as a punt returner, he still has something to prove. “When I first came into the league, there were a lot of people who wrote me off, a lot of people who said I couldn’t do this or that, that I was too small. Even now, after I got traded by the Chiefs, people are saying, ‘Your game is going to decline because you left playing with the greatest quarterback of all time.’ I’m like, ‘You guys literally have no idea. You clearly don’t watch football, huh?’ I just don’t deal with it or engage because the internet is always ready to attack if you say something on Twitter.” So if he’s not launching counterattacks or jumping jungle cat-like on his opponents, how does he drown out the noise? “I just chill and laugh, man,” he says. “The way that I think about it is this: I know at the end of the day that people are going to talk regardless of if I’m doing good or bad. When I was in KC, they were talking. Now that I left, they’re still talking. So you just have to tune it out and make yourself proud. That’s something my mom told me, my grandparents told me, and that’s something that I live by. You can’t make other people happy; you’ve just got to make yourself happy. I feel like being traded to the Miami Dolphins, being able to show people who I truly am, my personality, show them who I am outside of just being a football helmet, is basically me doing that — making myself happy. I’m chasing my dream, my goals, until I get to the top — and the top is the Hall of Fame career.” Hill says, that as he’s matured as both a person and a player, his love of the game has only increased, and his drive to succeed along with it. “When I was younger, in elementary, middle school, high school, and college, my main goal was just to make it to the NFL. As the years went by, my passion for the game began to grow; I began to understand it more and understand how quick it can go. How fast you can get hurt, how fast you can get traded, how fast you can get cut. I began to respect the game even more.” Regardless of what naysayers and keyboard warriors might say, it’s all love between him and his former team, and which he has no problem avowing. The longer he’s in the league, the more the phrase “for the love of the game” applies — and the guys he hit the gridiron with for the last six years can take a lot of the credit. “I played with arguably the best tight end in the game, Travis Kelce, the greatest quarterback of all time, Patrick Mahomes, and [had] one of the greatest coaches, Andy Reid. It’s just been a blessing to have those guys in my life and to have helped mold me into the player I am today. Before them, I was just another guy who was happy to make a play or two on ESPN, you know? But now I’m more mature, more
of a vocal leader, and I’m like, ‘Hey guys, we need to go out there and win this game.’ I’m a big-picture guy now. I understand that everybody has a role, and that’s how championship teams are built.” Which is, of course, his current priority: bringing that sweet, sweet Vince Lombardi trophy to the Magic City. And he wants it, he says, as much for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as he does for himself. “I go into work every day, man, and I look at Tua. He’s such a hard-working dude. A lot of people don’t give him credit for what he has done in his career. And then I see him out on the practice field, and he’s tremendous. He can put the ball anywhere on the field, standing in one spot. I just want to see him play, man, and play by his side. That’s part of the reason why I chose the Miami Dolphins — I wanted to play with the lefty.” [Tagovailoa being an anomaly as a left-handed quarterback]. One might assume from this effusive praise that he and Tagovailoa are closer than can be, but ironically, in reality, they’ve only just met. When Hill was traded to the team, he tracked down the QB’s digits, got in touch, and “the rest is history — we’ve been talking ever since. He’s a good dude,” Hill says. “You can sense that when you’re around him; you can feel his energy, which is genuine and pure. I can’t ask anything else from a man. He’s a good friend, and a good teammate to have on and off the field. I can always count on him.” He’s not the only one. Hill immediately found himself in the position of having a solid crew in his new teammates, who welcomed him into the Dolphins fold with open arms. Take today, for instance. He and some of the guys were meant to be hitting the high seas, chilling on a boat, but choppy waters disrupted their plans. Instead, later, he’s bowling with his homies. “We hang out all the time,” he shares of the guys who have been patiently waiting for him to make Miami his permanent home before throwing him an official “Welcome to the Magic City” rager, which apparently is on the agenda for the coming weekend. Except that said wild night is going to look a lot less like an evening at LIV and a lot more like a quiet dinner and a day on the golf course. Which suits Hill just fine. “I feel like [being here] is less of an introduction and more like a homecoming, because I knew most of these guys before I was even playing for the Chiefs. I’ve thrown numerous parties here, and a bunch of the Dolphins have even shown up for my birthdays, so really, being around them isn’t new. When I first walked into the locker room, it was like, ‘Hey, man.’ [Gangster nod.] Hey.’ The guys already knew it was coming. I kind of felt like I was going to get traded here, and I feel like everything happened for a reason.” Hill is a big believer in fate, and only time will tell what it holds for him in Miami. So watch this space... @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 19
yreek Hill wants the record to show this: He is not a small guy, even though he may look like one on TV. The camera may giveth 10 pounds, and also, apparently, it can taketh away — especially when you’re standing next to a behemoth like 6-foot-4, 320-pound offensive guard Nick Allegretti. Tyreek and I are literally talking about anything and everything. Our conversation leapfrogs to topics like Mercury retrograde, his die-hard dedication to beach volleyball, his love of travel (naturally, the beachier the destination, the better), and his typical 10-plus pounds of happy, donutrelated off-season weight gain. Now, the conversation has turned to what he feels is the most surprising thing about him. In his opinion, his height is the one thing that seems to shock and awe all who meet him. And not, as it happens, his lack of it. “I’m bigger than I might look!” he swears. “I feel like most people see me and be like, ‘Hey, you like you’re the same height as Kevin Hart or something.’ When people see me on TV, they think I’m 5 feet 5 inches, but when they see me in person, I’m like f***ing tall. Well, not tall, but kind of tall. I’m 5 feet 9½ inches, 195 pounds. They’re like, ‘Man, you’re kind of big. That’s crazy!’” I tell him to watch out for those donuts we were both waxing poetic about earlier — his favorite: strawberry, cream-filled, glazed (oh my!). “Exactly, man,” he says with a laugh. “I will look like Carl Winslow, not Kevin Hart, for real.” So OK, as a football player in his prime, a physical metamorphosis into the Winslow family patriarch might not be the doppelgänger he hoped for, but, just like Winslow, well, family matters. (Dear readers, please forgive me for this segue). “The greatest luxury in life is my kids, man,” Hill proclaims. “My kids motivate me each and every day. People always ask me who I do it for, and it’s those four munchkins right there, man.” He’s got mad love for his little ones: son Zev, 7, twins Nakeem and Nylah, and son Khai., all 3 years old. But as the only girl, Nyla is definitely the apple of her father’s eye. “She changed my life,” he declares. “She gave me a whole new perspective on how I look at life. Before I had my daughter, people would tell me I was such a hardass, a tough guy. But after, she just softened me up. I’m like a teddy bear now. Literally, she gives me the Puss ‘n Boots eyes, from Shrek, and then literally I just break down and give her anything she wants. If you want to say she has me wrapped around her finger, you’d be right — she does. And I never thought I would see the day.” I beg to differ. Though he’s young, the importance of family in Hill’s life isn’t lost on me — he references his kids, mother, grandparents, and sister often throughout our chat. They’re his biggest fans, and he, theirs. Whatever he does, whatever ventures he undertakes, he tries to make family affairs. That includes working with his self-named Tyreek Hill Family Foundation, which helps at-risk youth reach their goals, as well as his most recent venture, a transportation service, that came to be after he sold a short-lived trucking business side hustle last year. He’s even planning on hiring his sister, Jordan, as a full-time assistant to run Uber à la Hill. “I’m always trying to find ways to put my family and friends in the right situations without actually handing them money, because I don’t like to give people $10,000 just because I’ve got it. I say, ‘Hey, do you want a job? 20 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
You can drive this [SUV], or you can drive the van, but you’ve got to go get your chauffeur license, and then you’ve got to go get your gun license so you can be able to provide security.’ I’m always trying to teach people instead of giving them the easy way out. That’s the way my grandparents taught me. I was never given anything. I always had to work for it.” This is one point on which he’s very clear: Nothing in life is worthwhile if you haven’t earned it. “Success doesn’t come easy,” he maintains. “That’s something that my grandparents and my parents always taught me. If you want to be the best, you’ve got to work like you’re the best. Talent isn’t going to always get you where you want to be at.” The lesson that was instilled in him early on is one that he definitely plans on passing down through the generations. “That’s something that I tell my 7-year-old, Zev, because he’s beginning to play football. And you know, when you get to be 6, 7, 8 years old, you begin to feel yourself. So, my son scored one touchdown, and he just thinks the world owes him. He’s like, ‘Dad, you see that? I deserve a PS5.’ And I’m like, ‘Son, come on — that’s not good enough. One [touchdown isn’t] enough for us; we are better than one.’ So I try to set the tone for my kids. Besides prowess on the field, his mini-me is also giving young Tyreek Hill vibes in one very specific way. “I would say he’s a lot like me, especially when he loses. He hates to lose — he’s like, the worst sort of loser ever. He won’t shake anybody’s hand. He won’t talk to you. So, yeah, he’s just like me.” When I express surprise — Hill, like the Southern-born man he is, peppers his speech with a plethora of platitudes and yes ma’ams in a gracious way — he hastens to add that the bratty Tyreek of yesterday is firmly in the past, where he belongs. “As a kid I was definitely like that, but no, not now,” he swears. “You kind of grow up out of that once you get to a certain age.” Now, when he loses, he has a different mentality, especially when that loss means the end of a season. “Typically I really don’t do anything, man. I just thank God for allowing me to play the game and bless my family. And then, me and my whole family will go on a vacation and enjoy each other, somewhere like the Maldives, where I can sit on the beach and drink mimosas. Then I’m cool. I try not to get so tied up in it. I know how much I love this sport and how passionate I am, but I don’t want to sit there and cry, because there’s literally nothing I can do about it. There’s nothing I can do if I get mad. So I just try to control what I can control, and that’s just being happy in my own space.” That’s kind of his motto for life, his ethos, and how, most important, he lives up to his famous nickname. He explains, “When you think about the cheetah, it may not be the most dominant animal in the land, but night after night, it’s still running, still out there hunting. It has that mentality of ‘Maybe I won’t catch my prey right away, but I’ll keep going.’ I have that same mindset — I never give up, no matter what, until I catch you. That’s who I am as a person. [Adopting] the cheetah way of life is to be passionate about what you do. Love every second, love every moment — and chase greatness. But most especially, love yourself. Make sure you look in the mirror every single morning and say, ‘I love you. I love me some me!’ — just like Terrell Owens used to say. That is all you need.” A winning strategy indeed. One might even say it’s magic.

Major Food Group’s new lavish dining destination, Dirty French Steakhouse, was made for Miami. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, THERE’S NO DENYING HOSPITALITY PHENOM,
Major Food Group (MFG) has completely dominated the Miami fine dining scene, from the opening of New York’s beloved Carbone in the South of Fifth neighborhood to bringing the unique dining experience of HaSalon to Miami Beach. While each new opening embodies the luxury of elevated dining combined with the fresh modernity of curating a new kind of restaurant atmosphere that MFG is best known for, the acclaimed brand’s Magic City openings are different — in the best way possible. The latest restaurant to join the brand’s impressive repertoire is Dirty French Steakhouse. Known to New Yorkers as ‘Dirty French’ — the seductive French bistro that has made its mark on the Lower East Side — the new location has been brilliantly reimagined and ‘Miami-fied.’ Located in the heart of Brickell, Dirty French Steakhouse is a glamorous interpretation of the classic steakhouse as MFG co-founders Jeff Zalaznick, Mario Carbone, and Rich Torrisi revisit the iconic genre, adding their own flair. The new dining concept is a dynamic 80s-era swagger that could only exist in Miami. Designed by esteemed designer Ken Fulk, guests are instantly transported into the lavish world of Dirty French and its intoxicating atmosphere as they enter through the “Jungle Bar,” a lush lounge draped in a custom tropical leaf pattern, with a true gold-leafed ceiling, a heroic onyx bar, and a striking murano glass leaf chandelier, which sets the tone for the evening ahead. Incorporating signature steakhouse dishes, Dirty French Steakhouse offers a menu of the highest caliber, featuring an abundant raw bar selection, elegant seafood entrées, premium aged steaks, and a selection of rich sides. The menu is the ultimate indulgence with its decadent dose of Dirty French. Haute Living sat down with Chef Mario Carbone to hear how Dirty French Steakhouse is set to make culinary history in the Magic City.

Giant grilled oysters bourguignon Haute Living: How does the new Miami location differ from the legendary outpost in New York? Mario Carbone: They are very different in design but they have the same spirit. The original location was meant to be a bistro and this is much more a grand steakhouse. HL: How did you land on this concept for Miami? MC: We wanted to challenge ourselves to make the best steakhouse in all of Miami. HL: MFG continues its massive South Florida expansion. Was Brickell always a neighborhood you had on your radar? MC: Yes, Brickell has always been on our radar. The Dirty French space is one of the first spaces we signed when we migrated to Florida. It was always a part of the plan and we are thrilled to have it open.

A GENERATIONAL SHIFT IS UNDERWAY AT HARLAN ESTATE AS BILL HARLAN PASSES THE TORCH TO HIS SON WILL. BY LAURA SCHREFFLER PHOTOGRAPHY BORIS ZHARKOV
EVERYONE IN NAPA VALLEY KNOWS THE NAME BILL HARLAN. AS THE
founder of Harlan Estate, an Oakville winery that produces Bordeaux-style blends with a serious cult following due to their limited availability and Haute-worthy prices, he’s a Napa Valley legend. But now, the 81-year-old former real estate developer and owner of the five-star Meadowood Resort in St. Helena, is passing the baton to his son Will, 34, who will oversee not only Harlan Estate, but also the family’s other labels, Bond and Promontory. Haute Wine & Spirits sat down with the Harlan patriarch and his scion to talk about the past, present, and future of the family business. HAUTE LIVING: Has your dream for [Harlan Estate] been achieved? BILL HARLAN: It’s a work in progress. It was 12 years from the time we acquired the land to when we sold our first bottle of wine. Here we are now, almost 40 years later. We’ve learned a lot, we’ve evolved a lot. But I would say the most important thing is we did find great land, I found a great wife, and we have kids that [are] definitely passionately interested. HL: How will the second generation differ from the first? In what ways do you hope to bring innovation, new thought, and a modern approach to your 200-year plan? WILL HARLAN: The first generation was focused on acquiring the land, building the foundation of the family domain, and establishing the vision. The second generation is primarily concerned with deepening our connection to the land — not only in terms of understanding its character, but also in terms of translating that character into the wine. In short, the first generation’s task was to forge the way, while the second generation is tasked with continuing
to galvanize and elevate, if you will. The second generation, too, has the responsibility to begin preparing for the third generation to assume leadership of our network of relationships as well as of the vineyards and winery. HL: What do you think are the most important principles of leadership and what convinced you that Will had these qualities? BH: I think you can tell leaders by how many followers they have. They have to be completely aligned with the culture and have a passion for the shared vision and underlying purpose. They must believe in these heart and soul, but they also must understand what it takes to be a leader, which means understanding the risks required to remain out in front. It’s a lot easier to be a fast follower, and it’s a lot easier to be a regular manager. But a leader has to be planning far into the future, has to be clear on the values and on the culture, so that you have consistency and alignment on those things. In a family business, the family member in charge needs to be a leader, and if that person is not a strong leader, he or she needs to have the discernment to hire someone who is and support that individual. As far as Will is concerned, I think he’s grown up listening to our vision, our underlying purpose, and he has been able to gain the respect and the credibility of the people within our organization. HL: How does leadership transition affect the continuity of the core culture and values? WH: Continuity is very important for us, and so we think about transition far ahead of when it needs to happen, so that when it does happen it’s as smooth as it can be, understanding that transitions inherently come with their own @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 27
challenges and opportunities. It’s really a matter of making certain that you’re prepared for transition. That just takes time. HL: What’s the 40-year plan, Will? WH: I really see the next 40 years being about deepening our understanding of the properties [Harlan Estate, Bond, and Promontory], deepening our connection to them, understanding the underlying identity and character of these places. And to elevate our ability to translate that purely into the wine. From a wine-growing perspective, 40 years or so is not a very long time. We are still relatively new to the world stage compared with some of these older wine-growing regions. It does take a long time to really understand a piece of property. Growth for us is more about elevating what we have rather than taking on more projects just for the sake of taking on more projects. HL: What are the innovations that you’re bringing to the family business? WH: Just like any industry, there are new and very creative ways of connecting with people, especially people far from where we are. Having an international presence has always been really important to us. Not only spending the time in these markets getting to know these cultures, these people, finding ways that our wine can really play a part in their lives. Harlan Estate is a different animal from Bond, and that’s different from Promontory. Each one has its own identity and philosophy; therefore, I think [we] should be willing to explore what feels right for that property to connect with people. For instance, with The Mascot, we have a little more freedom to try new things and be involved with social media and things like this. We don’t feel that’s quite right for Harlan Estate, being at the other end of that spectrum. It’s really about tailoring that for each one of the properties and not just prescribe the same strategy for everything. HL: What is the greatest lesson you have learned from your dad, Will? WH: I think it’s this element of always being willing and ready to take risks. Not just any risks, but the right risks. Without those, you stagnate and therefore fall behind. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a bigger risk overall not to take risks. There’s been a lot written on the imbalance of people’s perspective on what is risky and what’s not, and if we can continue to be on the leading edge of understanding what that means for us and our business, then we can continue to not just maintain our position but increase it in the grand scheme of things. HL: Are you surprised with his answer, Bill? BH: I would say these things may not all happen overnight. But as time goes on, I’m not surprised as much as I feel fortunate that some of these things rub off. It’s not always totally easy, ever so often there’s a little friction here and there. But when we go back and think: What are we really up to? Why are we really doing this? What are we trying to create? What are the satisfactions we think that we will experience if we’re able to accomplish these things? No matter what happens and how heated things get, we go right back to why are we doing this. We’re working on something that has a meaning beyond any of us as individuals and working on something longer than a lifetime. HL: Did your goals start as one thing and transform into something else? BH: Each year, you learn things that work and things that don’t work and things that are maybe a better idea than your original idea; we adjust and evolve over the long term here. But I feel that the underlying core values, the idea here is we’re in a business that we think is an art of man and nature. We work to become more and more at one with nature and produce a product that purely expresses the character of the land. So, like Will says, it’s always working on getting closer to the soul and the essence of what we’re trying to do here, which is getting closer and closer to the threshold between great craftsmanship and the realm of art. As we work toward that place, will we ever get there or not, who knows? That seems like it will be ongoing and throughout life, there’s always a missing piece. And that missing piece is what draws us onward, and I feel that’s really part of the next generation and listening to them and the things that they’re going to be able to do, way beyond what we’ve accomplished so far. The outlook and dream are even getting more exciting along the way. 28 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com
HL: What would you say sets your wines and the company apart? WH: They’re inextricably linked. If we’re talking about the wines, it’s really the pieces of land that we have identified and found a way to capture and work with. It’s always going to come down to the land as the primary driver of the wines. But speaking to this human element, it’s how you assemble a team that has a capability, willingness, and humility to put in the time to understand these properties. When you’re trying to build something on the time scales of not just one generation, but multiple, and hundreds of years, you have to realize that what you’re working on is bigger. The other side of it is this humility is important from a cultural aspect to our company because it’s really what keeps you open-minded and willing to learn. Once you lose that you stagnate, and you stop improving. HL: Bill, I’d like to ask what you hope your legacy will be. BH: I think the idea of doing our part in bringing wine, and this art of man and nature through wine, closer and being more included into the realm of art. That’s an important part of it. We also know that there are a lot of definitions of art. One that resonates most closely with us, with me for sure, is one of Picasso’s definitions of art, “It washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” And if we can bring that to people in a certain way that they really feel it and experience it, that would be a legacy for me and the family, and [it] is really the underlying purpose of why we’re doing this. HL: Speaking of legacies, one was Meadowood. It must have been devastating when your hotel burned down, but you rebuilt it, and people are coming once again. What attitude did you need to have to move forward? BH: Our original vision for Meadowood was to be a common ground for the Napa Valley. The property has been a club for the growers, vintners, and members of our community since the 1960s. The Napa Valley is about two main things: wine growing and hospitality. The leadership of the Napa Valley community asked us if we would keep Meadowood as a club, a gathering place. We built the facilities at Meadowood with the idea of hosting Auction Napa Valley, which we did for 39 years before the pandemic and the recent fires. We have been committed 100 percent to the Valley, wine growing, and hospitality at a level on a par with the quality of the wines we produce here. Today, we absolutely remain focused on [those values], and we want to be able to continue to make contributions as an ambassador for the Valley. We will remain aligned with and supportive of the needs of the Napa Valley over the next 40 years, as we have been for the last 40. We have no plans to change that. HL: What do you consider to be the greatest luxury in life? BH: I would say having a home base, a place where you love to live. The most important thing is to have a place where our family gathers. Not only our immediate family, but our friends and extended family, our colleagues we get to work with. From this place, we can create something that has global reach, have a global perspective, and be able to travel throughout the world. I would say living in a great country, a pioneering spirit, family, friends, and health, obviously. WH: I will just state it as one of the things that I really enjoy about what we’re up to and that is being able to move around the world to do business in these different places. Visiting a place as a tourist, or just to enjoy it, is very different from being able to do business there; being able to interact with people who are passionate about wine and are really aligned with our philosophy. You learn so much more about the culture and the people. Usually, you don’t think about business as a soulful and culturally enriching thing because it has this connotation of commerce and transactional. But we sell wine in 39 countries and just the friendships, the partnerships, and the people that we’ve gotten to meet around the world through the business, I don’t think we ever would have gotten to be in front of had we just been visiting from a pleasure standpoint, so I really appreciate that. Being able to move around this world in this way is a pretty wonderful luxury.

CT5 +Cadillac V-Series Blackwing BY TIM LAPPEN
CADILLAC — THE NAME CARRIES GREAT MEANING.
It may surprise you to know that Antoine de La Mothe Cadillac, a French coastal trader, founded the site that later became Detroit in 1701 and provided the name recognition for the motor company that was formed some two centuries later. Cadillac, the company, had its start when Henry Ford dissolved his first motor car company (to resolve a dispute with early investors) and the people charged with selling parts and other items left over decided to buy it all and start their own company, Cadillac, in 1902. What Cadillac means these days depends on a few factors but mostly it’s defined by the generation you belong to. If you (and your parents) were born before the mid-1940s, it no doubt means a motor car par excellence. It was the aspirational vehicle of that generation and it had amazing creature comforts and features. Many members of the next generation saw Cadillac as their father’s (or grandfather’s) car, having no performance cred and simply being recognized for being large, luxurious, and grand. (It may also have been the first time the moniker luxobarge was used.) But the current generation of car buyers have met an entirely new Cadillac, starting with the CTS-V models of 2004 to 2019, which eventually included a twodoor coupe, a four-door sedan and a wagon, all of which basically performed like “Cadillac Corvettes,” which wasn’t surprising given that they had similar engines to the most powerful Corvettes. With big V8s that in the early years pumped out 400 hp but in the later years upped the ante considerably to 640 supercharged horsepower, they were the luxury hot rods of their time. Personally, I was surprised to see the CTS-Vs end production but into the gap left by their departure has stepped a very worthy successor, the subject of this story. The 2022 Cadillac CT5 V-Series Blackwing is the ultimate of Cadillac performance cars. Not only did Caddy go all-in with the power (now an eye-popping 668 hp) but it is offered with the choice of an automatic transmission or a six-speed stick. Let that sink in for a minute — Cadillac, 668 hp, 659 lb-ft of torque — six-speed trans… oh, and 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and a top speed of over 200 mph. All 250 of these BMW-, Mercedes- and Audi-fighters were spoken for in a couple of minutes after online reservations commenced and the story is that 2023’s model year will
have a similar limited production run. And that was before people were able to experience just how special this car is. With a custom, tuned suspension, the purpose-built interior of a performance car, a great exhaust note, and amazing responsiveness, I found the car a joy to drive . . . and to hear. What is it about a big V8 and a stick shift transmission that makes one pine for an In-N-Out double-double with cheese and grilled onions? Is there any car more American than a performance sedan with more power than some countries once had? Does it make sense? Of course not, but is it fun? Abso-caddy-lutely. “My” Blackwing (for a week) was a beautiful Electric Blue with options galore. Starting with carbon ceramic crossdrilled rotors ($9,000); blue brake calipers, leather seats with custom quilting and even carbon fiber seat backs ($6,090); and a carbon fiber package for exterior bits here and there ($4,100); plus a few other goodies, the sticker on mine was $108,115. But with a base of $83,995, the price-per-smile and thrills-per-dollar are very, very reasonable.

+ Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo
THE 2022 MASERATI QUATTROPORTE TROFEO IS THE TOP-OF-THE-LINE
four-door sedan offered by the marque. Maserati does make other four-doors (like the smaller Ghibli) and other Quattroporte models, but the Trofeo is the ultimate sedan, with a distinctive color scheme and special badging and, lest we forget, the most powerful motor in their sedans. Let’s take a step back to meet the four siblings. Pricing for the Quattroporte starts at $99,000 for the GT, a six-cylinder 345 hp variant. Next up is the Modena, which arrives with a base price of $109,100 and likewise is powered by a sixcylinder motor, this one putting out 424 hp. There’s also the Modena Q4, an all-wheel-drive version of the Modena, with the same power but more traction, starting at $113,600. But today’s story is about the top of the line — in terms of luxury, exclusivity, and power — the Trofeo (“Trophy”, in Italian), starting at $146,900, which sports a V8 with a robust 580 hp, throwing down 0-60 mph times of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of over 200 mph. And, as it is a rear-wheel-drive (“RWD”) car, it has both swagger and acceleration waggle to show its street cred. It’s easy to spot the Trofeo because of its livery. The side portholes and finished with bright red edges, “Trofeo” is written above the portholes on each fender and there are tri-colore badges on the front doors’ window pillars. It’s even easier to identify if it’s in motion as the distinctive Maserati sound announces both its arrival and departure.
32 HAUTE LIVING hauteauto.com
The Trofeo basic offering is in three colors — Blanco (white) is standard and Nero Ribelle (black), Grigio Maratea (dark grey), and Grigio (silver grey) are the optional metallics. “Mine” was painted a terrific golden green, Verde Royale, which was not on the standard menu as it was a $6,500 option. It really is a stunning color. Driving the Trofeo was a real treat, too. The sound is great, as befits an Italian sports tourer, and the driver can select the level of engagement wanted, from sedate and supple suspension to sporty mode and from a rather quiet exhaust note to full on bravissimo at the flick of a switch. I loved the interior, too. The fine upholstery — mine in carbon macro twill — was a good match for the medium-green exterior and looked great with the other interior finishes. The sound system — the optional Bowers & Wilkins unit, at $2,500 — provided a lush soundtrack for the drives. The optional wheels — 21” dark forged units with 15 spokes — were a nice blend of beauty and aggressiveness. I liked the fact that I didn’t see another Quattroporte every few minutes, as can be the experience with other luxury sedans during LA drives. Added to the base price, the $14,600 in options put the sticker at $160,500. Given all that’s included — style, performance, quality, and convenience — it was a great experience for me. It really is a wonderful luxury performance sedan.

BOND. JAMES BOND. SHORT, SWEET, CLEAR, CONCISE. TWO WORDS, ONE
used twice, to convey every supervillain’s worst nightmare (even if they don’t know it on first meeting). The 2022 Audi R8 V10 performance Spyder RWD, on the other hand, uses a lot of characters but it nonetheless packs more than may be initially apparent. (NOW do you see where this Bond thing is going?) And, just to be clear, Audi does not capitalize the “p” in “performance” — maybe they thought that it would be bragging. This version of the vaunted R8 is different as it’s not a “Quattro” version — only the rear wheels receive the power this time. Many sporting drivers prefer a rear-wheel-drive (“RWD”) car as it’s easier to have a controlled power slide when only the rear of the car breaks out on acceleration. It’s fitted with the same naturally aspirated (no turbo) fuel-injected 5.2-liter V10 motor (with 40 valves!) but it’s tuned to provide 562 hp, no doubt because it doesn’t have four wheels to grab hold when the throttle is punched and doesn’t need as much power to run a drivetrain that’s not a Quattro. But with 406 lb-ft of torque and a great sevenspeed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (paddle shifted, at the driver’s option), it’s good for a 3.7-second run from 0-60 mph and a top speed of 203 mph. Not bad for a drop-top! To me, the proof is in the driving and I loved my time with this car. It has a few choices of sounds (I prefer the Dynamic with the Performance mode) and,
with an 8,700 rpm redline, it loves to sing without pestering everyone in the Zip code. It’s a highly responsive car that can be a cruiser with the punch of a few buttons. The controls are clear and very easy to understand and the ones used regularly (like temperature changes, fan speed adjustment, etc.) are front and center. The infotainment also is clear and intuitive and allows for several driverselected options depending upon what one wants most to focus on. The convertible top is well designed, allowing for opening or closing operation in only 20 seconds at speeds below 31 mph. It’s an “acoustic top,” too, so when it’s up and all three windows are closed (there is a small vertical window at the back of the cabin), the interior is very quiet. With the top down and the windows lowered, it’s not all that windy, either, and even the coldest nights are tamed by the terrific heater and the heated seats (a must-have in a convertible). The base price on the Spyder RWD is $160,000 but, luckily for me, the optionpicker blessed me with the Carbon Exterior Package (carbon accents in several places — $4,800), the Premium Package (special B&O sound system, beautiful leather accents — $4,500), the Sport Exhaust Package (choice of sounds, different exhaust pipes and tips, and special steering wheel — $3,600) and a few more goodies, which brought the price of “my” ride to $189,690. Is it worth it? I sure think so as you get a great design, terrific performance, flexibility in how aggressive or laid-back you want your ride to be at any given moment and the convenience of a quick-change convertible top. I’m sold. @hauteauto HAUTE LIVING 33

FOR HUBLOT, A NEW SHAPE HAS TAKEN FORM AT WATCHES &
Wonders: square. Hublot revealed its own interpretation of the square watch for the first time through the Maison’s iconic Big Bang watch, creating the Square Bang Unico in five new models. “The square watch is a very specific object that most watchmakers dare not tackle. This is a divisive, disruptive, and unconventional shape that no one has known how to rework for decades: It was just waiting for us!” notes Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot. “Hublot decided to get to grips with the shape in order to explore its power and create a totally unique timepiece.” The five 42mm models range from solid titanium, black ceramic, King Gold, and titanium or King Gold blend with a black ceramic bezel. Each model comes with a black rubber strap and a folding clasp in the same material as the case. These original designs beat to the rhythm of the HUB1280 Unico Manufacture movement, a 354-component automatic chronograph set at 4Hz (28,800 vib/h). Most notably, the Square Bang Unico All Black is limited to just 250 pieces as the only special, limited edition of the new collection. The new Square Bang Unico marks the start of an exciting exploratory era for Hublot.

the best for last: Patek Philippe. While the full range of new timepieces was nothing shy of impressive, the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Time Travel Ref. 5326G-001 stunned most as they were able to get a closer look during the intimate presentation. Patek Philippe combined two signature complications into a single watch for the first time in history: its patented Annual Calendar and its Travel Time dual-time display. The model travels back in time to incorporate a vintage look with a charcoal gray dial with refined gradation with a subtle granular texture, reminiscent of the exterior case on old photo cameras. Yet, it is catapulted into the modern era of watchmaking with the new 41mm white-gold case that houses the new, groundbreaking self-winding movement. Protected by eight patents, the exclusive mechanical movement combines both the Annual Calendar and the Travel Time mechanisms in the same case. In the new caliber 31-260 PS QA LU FUS 24H movement, the Annual Calendar is controlled by the Travel Time function, and it is the local-time hour wheel that drives the calendar. Embodying the essence of Patek Philippe’s unparalleled approach to watchmaking, Ref. 5326G-001 Annual Calendar Travel Time stands as a testament to exceptional artistry and sophisticated design. +Roger Dubuis Knights of the Round Table Monotourbillon/X
this year’s Watches & Wonders. In true Roger Dubuis style, it was an uncommon experience, with 528 screens that presented a show that took roughly two months to perfect. The wow factor of the presentation set the stage for Dubuis’ latest creations — the Excalibur Monobalancier and Knights of the Round Table Monotourbillon/X timepiece. The Knights of the Round Table collection combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design creating an utterly unique lineup of timepieces. The 8th edition of the Monotourbillon takes the collection’s name to heart by incorporating the equalizing round table in the timepiece’s design. Twelve knights, cast in pink gold 750/1000, are strategically placed around the center of the watch fighting against the forces of gravity with their micro-sculpted shields — ultimately speaking to the great legend of King Arthur. Within the circular design is an entirely new time-telling experience as two gold markers are integrated into the design of the translucent-purple Murano glass blocks, which requires a remarkable eight layers of décor around the dial while the 4mm pink gold case is sealed by a notched bezel. While all Dubuis’ watches are meticulously created with bold details, this new edition pushes beyond the boundaries of hyper horology.

THE NEW ROLEX GMT-MASTER II, A HIGHLY ANTICIPATED
launch, sent shock waves through the fair. First, the timepiece introduces a new colorway pairing for a Rolex GMT: green and black. And second, it is a left-handed model — also known as a “destro” — as the crown and the crown guard are positioned on the left side of the watch case and meant for those who wear their watch on the right wrist. Aside from those two significant distinctions, this timepiece adheres to the GMT-Master II design and performance codes. It features a two-color monobloc Cerachrom bezel, a crystal case fitted with a Cyclops lens for easy date reading, and an Oyster bracelet paired with the patented Oysterlock folding safety clasp as well as the Superlative Chronometer certification that
ensures excellent performance on the wrist. The latest version is also equipped with calibre 3285, a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology, enabling it to display the hours, minutes, seconds, date, and an additional time zone in 24-hour format. Originally designed as a navigation tool for professionals traveling around the globe, the GMT-Master became the watch of choice for adventureseekers, which then evolved into the GMT-Master II that introduced a movement that allowed the hour hand to be set independently of the other hands in 1982. And today, the new GMT-Master II embodies the same spirit of exploration while being a pioneer in the industry.

Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon SLGT003
GRAND SEIKO ARRIVED IN GENEVA THIS YEAR WITH
major news: The brand would be revealing its first mechanical complication in its history. For the first time in horological history, the Grand Seiko Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon combines a constant-force mechanism and a tourbillon into one unit on a single axis, creating a new rhythmic heartbeat. Kodo, which means “heartbeat” in Japanese, is symbolic of the motion of the new mechanism because of its innovative movement. In the heart of the watch, the movement delivers a level of stable accuracy unprecedented for Grand Seiko. The Kodo is a true testament to the unparalleled craftsmanship of Grand Seiko as the production, from the inception to the final glorious manifestation, took a decade to perfect. Each of the 340 components of the caliber was meticulously reexamined, redesigned, and reengineered for production, resulting in Caliber 9ST1 — setting a new standard of accuracy, after each movement was evaluated for a 34-day testing criteria, testing for 48 hours in 6 positions and three temperatures. There’s no denying that the groundbreaking integration of the two mechanisms creates a stunning visual effect. The inner tourbillon carriage rotates smoothly as the balance steadily vibrates at 8-beats per second, and the outer constant-force
carriage follows its rotation at exact 1-second intervals. The constant-force carriage has a ruby on one of its arms, which acts as a small second hand, and the hour hand has an extra facet at its tip to enhance its readability. The case is constructed from Platinum 950 and Grand Seiko’s Brilliant Hard Titanium to achieve optimal, lasting luster, and the case back is made with sapphire crystal, revealing the movement’s finishing and intricate construction. The timepiece is designed with an extremely durable calf strap that has been hand-painted with Urushi lacquer in a multi-coating process that gives the strap a delicate sheen. Perhaps one of the buzziest timepieces of Watches & Wonders, the new Grand Seiko watch completely stole the show. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 41

looked to the past this year to create a modern masterpiece. Making history — again — Constantin presented a contemporary re-edition of the 37mm-diameter 222 “Jumbo,” the legendary timepiece from the 1970s. The 1977 “Jumbo” marked a significant moment for the brand as it was Constantin’s foray into designing sportier yet sophisticated timepieces. “Above and beyond its status as an icon, the 222 watch is a wonderful tribute to the work of our designers and engineers and an illustration of their ability to perpetuate the avant-garde spirit of our Maison,” noted Louis Ferla, CEO of Vacheron Constantin. The new interpretation honors the emblematic codes of the 222 by maintaining the same diameter, fluted bezel, gold-toned dial, straight hour-markers and baton-type hands, integrated bracelet and hexagonal central links, as well as the Maltese cross 42 HAUTE LIVING hautetime.com
at 5 o’clock made of polished Pd150 white gold and soldered onto the flat base of the case. As we got up close in Geneva, the new timepiece offers a few subtle changes that incorporate the latest technical advances: the movement now operates at 4Hz for the utmost precision, the caseback is open to reveal the inhouse, self-winding Calibre 2455/2, and the date window has been significantly offset from the outer rim of the dial to enhance legibility. The reimagined Historiques 222 is also finished with a sleek vertical-satin-brushed crown and bracelet, a circular satinfinished bezel and polished hour-markers, and the hand-chamfered gear trains and bridges are adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif. It is often noted that some of the most remarkable timepieces are often inspired by revisiting history, and Vacheron Constantin proved the sentiment this year by reviving the spirit of the Historiques collection.

HOT SUMMER STAYS WHERE TO SOAK UP THE SUN IN LUXURY THIS SEASON BY LAURA SCHREFFLER
VICEROY RIVIERA MAYA
Viceroy Riviera Maya, just outside of Playa del Carmen, is a special place. Think: private villas on the edge of the rainforest, sultry breezes, swaying palm trees, brilliant, gemstone-blue water lapping at your feet, and seven miles of white-sand beachfront, home to the world’s second biggest coral reef. All 41 residence-like villas — all with jungle views — are thoughtfully designed with secluded outdoor showers, private plunge pools, hammocks, and patios with chaise lounges, with luxurious touches like full-size ROIL and Natura Bissé bath products, Italian linen bathrobes and slippers, and Bose sound systems. The elegantly designed, ocean-accessible, 1,700-squarefoot Beachfront Villas are the standouts here thanks to those aforementioned views, deep soaking tubs, and personal majordomo (butler) who provides a nightly aroma-therapeutic turndown service, a pillow menu, and a hand-made soap concierge. Yes, you read that right. There’s also two great restaurants, including the fine dining concept La Marea, which is now helmed by the exciting young cook, Julio Cesar Chavez , and an awardwinning spa in WAYAK, which specializes in the ancient Mayan traditions native to the area. On that front, quite uniquely, the resort also has its own resident shaman who prepares and dries herbs from an on-site garden for personalized treatments. Water sports are naturally on offer, including diving and snorkeling, private yacht and catamaran charters, and even a dolphin discovery area. Cenote tours and romantic, candlelit beach respites, featuring floral arrangements and tiki torches in a private seaside palapa are just part of what makes the Viceroy so special, but you’ll really have to see it for yourself to experience the true breadth of its magic. French Polynesia is a massive area, comprising some 118 islands (roughly the size of Europe) and sometimes, one wants for more than a dedicated beach vacation. Fair enough — whatever floats your boat, right? Which is why it would be remiss not to mention the wild allure of Moorea, an island known for its beautiful beaches and volcanic mountains, lush green cliffs, waterfalls, rainforest hiking trails, and the spirit of adventure. For those who want that untamed, surrounded-by-nature vibe, but still want to sleep on Egyptian cotton in an overwater bungalow, the French-owned Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea offers that happy medium — and you’ll be happy there, indeed. The resort is located on a secluded, picture-perfect slice of white-sand beach on Temae, the longest of the islands, within a protected marine area, dotted by 113 luxurious bungalows built over the water, on the beachfront, or amid landscaped gardens. Our pick: a luxury horizon overwater bungalow that offers unobstructed views of the lagoon, a private solarium, glass floor viewing panels, and private terraces and sundecks. But it’s the local partnerships that make this resort so remarkable. The powers that be work with the best of the best on island, whether it’s learning how to make home remedies or flower crowns with local Yvette León, ATV’ing up Magic Mountain, a dance party on a private motu with Temoana Tours, or snorkeling with sharks and stingrays. On property, there are just as many special offerings, from outrigger canoeing to private dinners at K, a beachfront restaurant under a cathedral ceiling made with Kahaia wood from the Tuamotu atolls, to spa treatments utilizing natural exotic ingredient such as raw-organic coconut body oil, zesty orange, sweet vanilla, fruity mango, or even avocado at Le Jardin Spa & Beauty. Here, you’re truly in for a tropical treat. Moorea-Maiao 98728, French Polynesia

There are few places in the world that are as magical as Bora Bora, and if you’re looking for a dedicated, luxurious island getaway where the only thing you have to do is decide which cocktail to order with dinner, then the breathtaking Conrad Bora Bora Nui is the place for you. A first-class flight on festive Air Tahiti Nui to Papeete, French Polynesia’s capital, gets you in the mood for your island adventure. Recover from your long plane ride with a night at the new Hilton Hotel Tahiti, the only five-star property on the island, or jump on a hopper flight to the Bora Bora airport, from where you’ll take a private resort pontoon or a direct flight to the hotel that lands on a floating helipad. From there, it’s pure hedonism all the way thanks to white-sand beaches, awe-inspiring sunsets, and overnight stays in majestic overwater bungalows dotted with traditional Polynesian décor (the crème de la crème of which is the 3,229-square-foot, two-story Presidential Bungalow which features two bedrooms, three bathrooms, an infinity pool overlooking the ocean, whirlpools, sunbeds, a bar and lounge area, and three terraces). Service here is next-level, whether that’s through the new five-star host butler service that help with your packing and unpacking, resort tours, shoe and flip-flop care and repair, morning beverage delivery, and even tutorials on how to properly style and wear a Tahitian pareo. At the superior hilltop Hina Spa, which is embedded into a volcano and overlooks the lagoon, traditional Polynesian treatments as well as a new partnership with French skincare brand Biologique Recherche are on offer. On the culinary tip, there are delectable dining concepts, such as a catered champagne picnic lunch on the private inlet of Motu Tapu; a traditional Polynesian fire dance dinner; and a floating canoe breakfast. The resort also features an overwater lounge and swimup pool bar, a fitness center, tennis court, golf simulator, educational experiences revolving around the local manta rays with a dedicated on-site marine biologist, and all the kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and paddle-boarding you can handle. IBIZA GRAN HOTEL
It’s a common misconception that Ibiza is all party, all the time. While that’s true to some extent, it’s also a great place to relax, regroup, wine, and dine. At Ibiza Gran Hotel, steps away from the Bay of Ibiza across from Dalt Vila (the city’s old town) in Talamanca., you can do both. Yes, it’s steps away from Pacha, the ultimate superclub, but it’s also an oasis of art, fine dining, and pampering. To start, stay in the Gran Suite Isla Blanca, which looms over the bay in its majestic opulence thanks to a private terrace, sundeck, heated hydro-massage swimming pool, steam shower, private kitchen, cocktail bar, and wine cellar, with butler service, private chefs, personal trainers, and Bentley airport transfers on request. It’s home to two exceptional restaurants, Downtown Ibiza by Giuseppe Cipriani, defined by 1960s décor, delectable Italian fare, and one heck of an aperitif hour; and the fusion of Mediterranean meets Kaiseki cuisine at the newly minted, Michelin-starred La Gaia by Óscar Molina, and, for the first time ever, a one-year residency from global brand, Zuma, as well as ASAL from chef Mario Sandoval. The new restaurants will be accompanied by the new late-night venue Club Chinois, courtesy of the team at the world-famous Mayfair London eatery, Park Chinois. Add in the stylings of Open Spa, a den of relaxation with hydromassage pools (jets, cascades, and swan-neck fountains), a plunge pool, Turkish bath, a Finnish sauna, aroma and contrast showers, saline inhalation bath and a relaxation zone with heated beds, and we’d say you’re more than ready for Pacha, Amnesia, Privilege, and so much more. Round Hill is often named one of the best hotels in the world for a reason: It manages to embrace the true, “don’t worry about a thing” Montego Bay vibe in the most decadent of ways. This 100-acre waterfront resort is full of it all: luxurious, individually designed villas and boutique oceanfront rooms — all designed by Ralph Lauren — award-winning seaside dining, and an exquisite spa that lies nestled in a lush tropical hillside along a private bay of turquoise Caribbean waters. But first, the villas: As designed by the Polo Pony and regarded as some of the finest in Jamaica, each includes a private pool surrounded by lush, secluded tropical landscaping;made-to-order breakfasts, specially prepared in the villa each morning;and a bespoke pillow menu, among other offerings. Its Spa at Round Hill follows suit with the upscale ethos, with wellness offerings, including transformative yoga in an open-air pavilion with sweeping views of the sea, an outdoor Vichy shower under a canopy of tropical foliage, and an extensive treatment menu focused on natural and indigenous influences, all set in an 18th-century plantation house by the sea. There’s a plethora of dining options as well, the highlight of which is modern Caribbean-focused fare courtesy of James Beard award-winning chef Martin Maginley, and all the activities you could possibly imagine, including river rafting, rum tasting, and waterfall hikes. Don’t miss nearby attractions such as Glistening Waters, home to the largest and most brilliant bioluminescence lagoon in the world. John Pringle Drive, Montego Bay, Jamaica

MAYBOURNE RIVIERA

Built on a rocky peninsula high above the picturesque French town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, known for its 10th-century medieval castle and ancient Vallonnet caves, whose rich legacy of patrons includes the likes of Coco Chanel, Dali, Picasso, and Jean Cocteau, rests The Maybourne Riviera, the new, strikingly modernist hotel from the upscale Maybourne Hotel Group, operators of Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Berkeley in London, and The Maybourne Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. With dramatic panoramic views of the coastline that take in Cap-Martin and Italy to the west and Monte Carlo to the east, it’s a prime location for this Jean-Michel Wilmotte-designed, 69-room resort (all of which have spectacular views of the sea), set on restored ancient gardens with walled-in walkways, citrus orchards, and a seasonal herb garden. It’s a collaborative project in many ways: The Maybourne has partnered with artists, designers, and architects, including Andre Fu, Bryan O’Sullivan, Marcelo Joulia, Pierre Yovanovitch, and Rigby & Rigby to create singular spaces while also working with local artisans to create bespoke art, glassware, ceramics, and furnishings. Similarly, the culinary offerings are, one might say, a perfect pairing, helmed by two of the world’s best chefs: Ceto and the Riviera Restaurant, courtesy of Mauro Colagreco of three-Michelin star Mirazur, in nearby Menton, and past holder of the No. 1 position in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, as well as Haute Living culinary ambassador Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the man behind the Pool Bar & Terrace and the soon-to-be-opened Jean-Georges at The Maybourne Riviera. Japanese chef Hiro Sato is also set to bring his worldclass sushi to the property soon, while executive pastry chef Benoit Dutreige is responsible for the sweet treats offered at the very British afternoon tea. Guests of the hotel have exclusive access to the chic Maybourne Riviera Beach Club nearby and will be transported there from the hotel (or to Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Monte Carlo) by open-top bespoke biminis, decorated in the hotel’s signature lemon and white stripes, which are just as lovely as the property’s mosaic pavements, André Fu-designed spa, and outdoor infinity pool built into the rock with signature orange sunbeds overlooking the ever-changing panorama of distant sailboats. 1551 Rte de la Turbie, 06190 Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France

There are few places more glamorous to enjoy some fun in the sun than the historic Hôtel Martinez in Cannes, home of the storied Cannes Film Festival. This centurial institution, which faces the Mediterranean Sea and the Lérins Islands, underwent a major facelift in 2018 but has retained its Roaring Twenties vibe in a modern, utterly compelling way that truly embraces the hedonistic French Riviera lifestyle. Architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, who initially sketched plans for the hotel’s signature La Palme d’Or restaurant in 1985, was enlisted to re-create its well-recognized Art Deco style throughout, including the white marble, light-filled lobby, glass-enclosed elevator with views to the sea and beyond, and the refreshed guest rooms highlighted in yachting style with white lacquer furniture and splashes of sky blue or pale yellow throughout, nods to the land of sea and sun. The most recent updates to the property are its penthouse apartments, which have been named in honor of legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert and Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Frémaux. The former is decorated in light shades of white and gold in a wide variety of textures, from leather to silk, with custom rugs dotting the simple, Cocteau-inspired décor, while the latter was designed as a masculine boudoir with bold furnishings in cooler tones, for a more refined, subdued style. From the bathroom resembling a celebrity dressing room to the black-and-white tiling recalling reel-to-reel film, it is truly an ode to the festival of yesteryear. Each penthouse has its signature scent as well, courtesy of Mane perfumer Julie Massé; Huppert’s with notes of tuberose from Grasse, Frémaux’s capturing his preferences in notes of cypress, cedar, and fig leaf. Michelin two-star chef Christian Sinicropi of the hotel’s La Palme d’Or restaurant is developing a special menu to be served in these apartments — akin to the special menu he prepares for the festival’s jury — for a complete experience that captures all the cinematic magic of Cannes. Don’t miss the extensive, globalinspired libations at Bar Martinez, where a truck offering 4,356 possible experiences of gin are available, as well as the refreshed beach club La Plage, with its ambiance of uncluttered luxury, a blend of Art Deco, Miami Beach, the yachting world, and the French Riviera. Newly revealed for summer is L’Oasis du Martinez, a lush, natural haven of peace and rejuvenation away from the hustle and bustle of Cannes with plants, a private swimming pool, its Spa by Carita, and a Technogym-equipped fitness area. 73 Bd de la Croisette, 06400 Cannes, France
MAZZARÒ SEA PALACE AND ATLANTIS BAY
If there’s an actual heaven on earth, it looks a lot like Taormina, a stunning hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily known for its proximity to Mount Etna, an active volcano, sandy beaches leading out to the crystal blue sea, winding cobblestone streets, and Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theater that still runs to this day. Here, VRetreats owns and operates two five-star properties, both with an oceanic feel, though in distinctly different locations. The 76-room Mazzarò Sea Palace is located on one of the most storied coastlines in the Mediterranean, with its own private beach, exclusive to hotel guests, state-of-the-art wellness center, an elevated Sicilian eatery in Il Gattopardo, and luxe pool suites with heated plunge pools. Elegantly minimalist sister resort Atlantis Bay, meanwhile, is situated on Baia delle Sirene, or Mermaids Bay, set amongst the romantic alleyways of Taormina. Speaking of romance, that’s found in spades here, from candlelit dinners at its Iccocampo restaurant to craft cocktails and bottles of Sicilian vino at the Dioniso bar, an homage to — what else — Dionysus, the god of wine. The activities are pretty stellar at Atlantis as well, and include The Godfather tour — where guests ride around in a vintage Fiat 500 and relive scenes from Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic 1972 film, which was shot locally; hiking excursions up Mount Etna and body rafting to the Alcantara Gorge; and explorations of the Isola Bella, Grotta Azzurra, Naxos Gardens, and Castle of Sant’Alessio, all aboard an elegant yacht. See? Heaven on earth. Via Nazionale, 147, 98030 and Via Nazionale, 161, 98030, Taormina ME, Italy

Today, the Objets Nomades collection continues to drive the luxury fashion Maison in the world of contemporary design with thought-provoking pieces through collaborations with renowned artists and designers. Since its inception, the collection has expanded into dozens of limited edition objects. From the creation of the Bomboca sofa by Fernando & Humberto Campana in 2017 to the Cosmic Table by Raw Edges in 2021, Haute Living offers an exclusive introduction to some of the signature pieces from the collection to reveal the premier craftsmanship, diligence, and extraordinary manifestation that goes into their creation.

Created by the esteemed design-artist duo, Alberto Biagetti and Laura Baldassari, the Anemona Table embodies their deep connection to the Adriatic Sea near their hometown of Ravenna and the billowing movement of costumes at La Scala in their current residence in Milan. Intricately designed with a beveled glass top large enough to seat 12, its base is covered with rich natural-colored leather on the outside juxtaposed with a contrasting deep-blue Louis Vuitton color on the inside. The Anemona now comes in multiple colorways, in addition to blue. “We wanted to create an experiential object that suggested a journey more psychological than physical. We did not want to create a portable object; on the contrary, we wanted the object to transport us. So we thought about a table — the domestic object par excellence — because it brings people together; it is convivial and inspires the telling of stories and sharing of tales. Then we thought about the sea, the very symbol of freedom but also the setting for important forms of nomadism today. Our table emerges from the waves into the home as a symbol of hospitality, refuge, and peace.” — Atelier Biagetti

Tokujin Yoshioka’s Blossom Vase, inspired by the classic Louis Vuitton flower on the Monogram pattern, is a smooth swirl of beautiful glass handcrafted by master glassblowers in Murano, Italy. A faithful adherence to the Maison’s renowned artisanship was at the forefront of his creation for the Japanese artist and designer. “My impression of Louis Vuitton is the quality and artistry cultivated in the brand’s long history. I [wanted to] reinterpret their philosophy to create a work that travels through history and [into] the future with my expression and techniques and expresses [that] new journey through time. I always try to invent something beyond forms. I wanted to create something iconic that strongly symbolizes the philosophy of Louis Vuitton, and I created an object that is universal and timeless.” — Tokujin Yoshioka
“We liked the challenge of working on a collection of collapsible objects. Usually, the focus is on how to make collapsible objects very small and flat. In this project, we mostly focused on how to make them look large, surprising, and with real presence when they are expanded. In this case, we started with the armchair, which is the most challenging, then applied the comfort, foldability, strength, and finally, the mechanism to the table and the light shade, and now for the new collection also for the shelves.” — Raw Edges

Complex in their geometry, Raw Edges’ Dolls consist of a base, shell, and seat meant to be dressed individually, making them unique to their owner. The bases, covered with fabric or leather, are topped with the shell and seat elements, all inspired by diverse cultures, heritage, and folk crafts around the globe.

The Bomboca sofa, designed by the Campana brothers, embodies their design journey of collaborating with Louis Vuitton materials and exploring the Louis Vuitton universe. Named after sweets served at weddings and children’s parties in Brazil and meaning “very good,” the modular sofa was originally inspired by cloud shapes and colorful round sea apples, and the cushions — in fabric or leather — can even be used separately as poufs.

CHANEL CRUISE 2022/23
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Monte Carlo, Chanel held its Cruise 2022/23 fashion show in early May, embodying the joie de vivre of summer living and glamorous getaways. For Virginie Viard, the creative director of Chanel, Monte Carlo couldn’t have been more perfect. “To me, Monaco is a matter of feelings, above all. From very early on, I knew we would hold a show there, and more precisely at the Beach Hotel. Besides, Karl was dreaming about it. From this magnificent venue, one can glimpse his villa, La Vigie,” explains Viard. This season is teeming with Chanel cruise classics like bright-colored tweed sets, swimsuits, and summer whites. A sporty atmosphere, but not only — there are [many] tweed or silk jumpsuits lined with light terry cloth... many sequins and flower-shaped embroidered plastrons adorning thinly striped long shirt-dresses with white high collars — a nod to Karl — a sequined midnight blue dress, or backless tops worn over wide-cut trousers,” says Viard.

On June 16, Dior will unveil its 2023 cruise collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, in the iconic Plaza de España, in Seville, Spain. Honoring the long-standing relationship between Dior and Spain — and more specifically, Andalusia — the collection will display the craftsmanship and culture through the creativity of local artists and artisans.

Louis Vuitton made history this season: The brand was the first to stage a fashion show at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The show took place as dusk beautifully backlit the runway and set the mood for the reveal of Nicolas Ghesquière’s collection. “I wanted the clothes to be like reflections, a point of contact between light and people,” says Ghesquière. The sun played a leading role in the Cruise 2023 collection as the bountiful light of the West Coast created prisms across shimmering silhouettes, while the looks designed with natural materials gave the illusion of a metallic palette.

Surgeries, Sunburns, and Scars
Sunseekers beware: These procedures require that you stay out of the sun. BY BROOKE KLAIMAN
REANA MYERS, CAREAGA PLASTIC SURGERY | BODY | MIAMI/FORT LAUDERDALE
One of the most frequent questions that I get from patients is whether they can get sun exposure after their nonsurgical procedures. When it comes to injectables, sun exposure is not contraindicated unless you have significant bruising and so patients are always advised to wear sunscreen. However, when it comes to any procedure that involves skin resurfacing or retexturing, it is important to note that while these are considered nonsurgical procedures, they require that the patient avoid the sun before 86 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com/hautebeauty
and after treatment. Some examples of these treatments are all lasers, such as IPL, fractional and CO2, micro-needling, and PRP treatments.
DR. ROBERT VITOLO | BREAST | NEW YORK
It’s not really about staying out of the sun. It’s about getting a sunburn. Staying out of the sun is not necessary for everyone. The reason we say stay out of the sun is that most people do not know how to use sunblock properly. The only procedure that requires sun blockage is a laser ablation, where we resurface the skin using a laser that removes the top layer of your skin and creates a scab. After a week, the scab comes off and under the scab is a new skin. You do not want to expose the new pink skin to the sun until your skin color returns to normal. The new skin is pink because all the dead skin was removed and now it’s the equivalent of brand-new baby skin, but it’s pink. The skin contains melanocyte cells that contain the pigment melanin. When the pigment cells are exposed to the sun it stimulates melanocytes, which then causes the skin to develop excess color thus turning the skin tan to brown. To prevent this from occurring, patients need a sunblock with an SPF of 50 or higher, it is also recommended to wear a large brim hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (even at home) after a facial laserbrasion.

procedure, or the facelift you’ve always dreamed of. Before procedure day, you go for a consultation at which your surgeon lays down the ground rules, the crucial piece being: Stay out of the sun. But how exactly do you do that when the sun’s ultraviolet rays are ever present, you wonder? Whether you are driving or walking in for your consultation, you are susceptible to the strength of the sun and its effects on your skin. What procedures require you to avoid the sun before and after? Why? What happens if you don’t stay out of the sun? DR. BRIAN K. MACHIDA | FACE | LOS ANGELES
It’s important to stay out of the sun before and after fractional CO2 laser resurfacing due to the risk of pigment change after surgery. Plus, we usually prescribe a bleaching cream prior to surgery so sun exposure should be avoided while getting this pre-op treatment.
DR. KIRAN GILL | BODY | NAPLES
I tell my patients to avoid the sun after any facial surgery I perform that involves exposed skin, including the face, eyes, and neck areas, because sun/UV exposure can affect healing, recovery, and results. It’s also a good rule of thumb to avoid exposure before surgery to maintain skin integrity, which is needed to support the healing process. Part of the recovery conversation I have with patients is that some inflammation is normal after surgery, but sun exposure can make it more pronounced, resulting in excess swelling, bruising, and a longer healing time. Sun exposure can also increase melanin production in the incision lines, making scars more visible.
DR. OLIVER CHANG | BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT | MIAMI/FORT LAUDERDALE
For the most part, staying out of the sun before and after surgery is a standard. This, of course, varies from surgeon preference, procedure type, body location, and whatever else the sun can potentially do to hinder the overall procedure. For my patients, preoperative sun exposure usually is limited weeks prior to prevent any sunburn to the area of surgery as well as to help maintain well-hydrated skin for better postoperative healing and overall hydration status, especially for body contouring procedures. Postoperatively, sun exposure should be limited due to swelling, bruising, and tanning of any of these areas from surgery, which could potentially lead to permanent darkening. I advise my patients to avoid direct sun exposure to any scar or incision for up to a year postoperatively to achieve the maximum scar quality, making the scar as light and faint as possible. Always wear sunscreen/sunblock throughout the body, stay well hydrated, and properly cover all surgical sites postoperatively to stay safe and achieve the best results.
DR. JEFFREY LEE | BREAST AUGMENTATION | BOSTON
Laser resurfacing is the one procedure that I require patients to be out of the sun before and after. Sun exposure can cause your skin to increase its pigment production, which can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in treated areas. While scars can be 100 percent protected from UV rays, larger treated areas like the whole face and neck cannot. Sunscreen is good but not good enough, so I generally recommend being out of the sun completely for two weeks prior to and four weeks after an aggressive laser resurfacing procedure. Surgical scars are equally important to keep out of the sun and my recommendation is to always double cover. This means, underwear and shirt/pants, or bathing suit and Band-Aid/tape. This ensures that 100% of the UV rays are blocked and that the scar will not darken.
DR. DAISY AYIM | BODY | HOUSTON
Summer is fast approaching, and clients want to enjoy the beautiful weather. However, we advise anyone who chooses to have a chemical peel or morpheus8 radiofrequency micro-needling in our practice to

stay away from the sun. This is so important to avoid skin damage since both procedures alter the skin layer to improve appearance, texture, and color. Furthermore, this makes the skin vulnerable to sun rays even with sunscreen usage that may lead to complications from sun exposure such as skin burn, scarring, and photoaging.
NATALIE HASSELL, DR. SAMUEL LIN | NOSE | BOSTON
Before a procedure or surgery, it is especially important to limit sun exposure and use sun protection to avoid burning, irritating, or inflaming the skin. The length and importance of sun avoidance after a procedure varies. For some in-office procedures, such as chemical peels or laser hair removal, sun avoidance is recommended for the first days/weeks after treatment when your skin may be extra-sensitive. It is also best to avoid sun exposure before laser hair removal, as it is most effective on untanned skin. Injectables like Botox or fillers generally do not require sun avoidance, but may be advised to help limit any swelling. Staying out of the sun is important for optimal healing and avoiding skin pigment changes after any surgery that results in scars that may be exposed to sunlight.
DR. SACHIN SHRIDHARANI | BODY | NEW YORK
Procedures that create vulnerability in a temporary capacity to the skin require individuals to avoid sunlight. These noninvasive procedures include but are not limited to lasers treatments, chemical peels, and aggressive micro-needling and energy-based treatments. For almost any surgery, it is important to avoid sunlight to the affected area post-surgery. Scar tissue is fragile, and its healing process and the remodeling phase of wound healing can take up to one year. Disruption due to sunburn or overexposed sunlight leads to hyperpigmentation and can impair the wound healing process. In aesthetic plastic surgery, we see a seasonality with several different procedures. We joke that summer bodies are made in the winter... at LUXURGERY! For my patients receiving facelifts or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), it is paramount to use aggressive amounts of sunblock if they intend on being exposed to the sun even two to three months after surgery in order to avoid the scar becoming reddened or more visible. Like everything in life, moderation is key even when soaking up vitamin D.
DR. RALPH GARRAMONE | BODY | FORT MYERS
The facelift, necklift, and CO2 laser are procedures where I ask patients to stay out of the sun both before and after surgery. The effects of any facial surgery are considered permanent but that doesn’t mean that new skin damage cannot occur. One way that patients can protect facial skin is by avoiding sun exposure, it is important to keep the skin protected from sun damage. What many people do not know is that sun exposure can interfere with healing and increase the risk of complications after a surgical procedure. I do recommend staying out of the sun completely during the first week of a facelift and necklift recovery. After the first week of recovery, patients are asked to avoid sun exposure as much as possible. It is especially important to protect the skin around incision sites. Areas where surgical incisions have been made should be kept out of the sun for the first year following facelift surgery. hauteliving.com/hautebeauty HAUTE LIVING

Botox & Filler Fast Facts I HAVE WRINKLES. BOTOX. I WANT MY LIPS TO BE MORE DEFINED.
Fillers. I don’t like the fine lines by my eyes. Botox. I want to enhance the shallow contours of my face. Fillers. All customary uses of Botox and fillers, but is that all? As the gold standard of treatments in the world of aesthetic injections, there is a handful of uses that are misconstrued or simply unknown to the end-user. To get an overall scope on the benefits of both Botox and fillers, Haute Beauty expert Rachel Duke provides the fast facts.
BOTOX FAST FACTS
Botox is a purified protein.
Botox is a protein complex that is used to temporally relax muscles. It is derived from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. Botox is a brand name. There are four different types marketed under different names that have all been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA): Botox, Xeomen, Jeuveau, and Dysport. The brand Botox is approved for use in 95 countries and has been the subject of more than 4,700 published studies, which makes it the most researched and one of the safest drugs available.
Botox is not just for wrinkles.
It is FDA-approved for three uses cosmetically and 12 uses medically. It can be used between the eyes, the forehead, and around the eyes. It is also
88 HAUTE LIVING hauteliving.com/hautebeauty
common to be injected in the lower face and neck for improvement in wrinkles and skin texture. Medical uses included neck spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder, lazy eye, and migraine treatments. It’s been called “the drug that treats everything.”
Botox has been shown to treat depression.
Several studies show that depression was reported less with patients who were treated with Botox. Our emotions tend to be reflected in our facial expressions. So when we relax the facial muscles this connection is disrupted, showing no facial expressions of sadness or frowning. More recent research suggests that Botox can affect feedback from facial muscles to the brain that can alleviate negative emotions.
Botox treats muscles not skin.
Botox injections target muscles, not wrinkles. When injecting Botox, your provider is visualizing the muscles under your skin and how the muscle movements cause wrinkles to develop. For example, consider what happens if you crinkle or fold a piece of paper, folds and creases develop and cause wrinkles just like they do in normal muscle movements, especially in the upper face. So Botox can also have a preventive effect by relaxing muscle movements; it also keeps the wrinkles from getting worst or forming in the first place.

FILLER FAST FACTS
Fillers can stimulate collagen and fat.
Fillers can actually narrow and contour the face. There is a myth that fillers can make the face look fat or fuller. Yes, we are adding volume — one syringe of filler is only one fifth of a teaspoon — so even though several syringes may be added during a treatment, the total volume is actually small. It’s all about precise placement. When placed appropriately by a skilled injector, fillers can be used to contour the cheeks and jawline, minimizing the appearance of jowls and thinning the face.
Filler placement will change as you age.
PHOTOS COURTESY OF RACHEL DUKE
Fillers will not make your face look fat.
Not all fillers are created equal.
There are a slew of injectable fillers on the market. The most commonly used ones are hyaluronic acid. They are available as different-size molecules with different thickness and cohesivity or stickiness. Because of this the best fillers will be chosen by your provider depending on desired goals, needs, and outcomes. Certain fillers provide better volume replacement while others can provide a beautiful plump lip or can even soften fine lines, for instance.
BEAUTY
Renuva is an injection that, over time, is replaced with your body’s own fat. This is a great option for patients who have suffered age-related volume loss or need significant volume replacement. Sculptra and Radiesse are both injectables that stimulate collagen production. The results with these products happen over time, so while you don’t get the instant gratification you do with hyaluronic acid fillers, you do achieve longer results. More youthful patients usually desire fillers for contouring and definition. At this time in life, fillers are used to help correct early signs of aging such as fat loss in cheeks or the early signs of nasolabial folds. More youthful patients may also desire a sharper contour to the face known as a “snatched” jawline or lip augmentation. When you become more mature, fillers can help add age-related volume loss. Not only will you require cheek fillers, but you may also need fillers in the temples and lower face for nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Filler placement can also help improve fine lines around the mouth and deflation in the lips. hauteliving.com/hautebeauty HAUTE LIVING

two-day F1 Hospitality Mansion for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix weekend. Upon entering the mansion, guests were greeted with an impressive fleet of the renowned Rolls-Royce Ghosts in a range of colors as they were escorted into the first-ever Haute Living x Rolls-Royce F1 Mansion. Perhaps the highlight of the Hospitality Mansion was the bespoke Configuration room, where special guests and Rolls-Royce collectors were invited to create custom, one-of-a-kind editions. Nicole Tuck and Asahd Tuck Khaled, DJ Khaled’s wife and son, stopped by the Configuration room for Asahd to get creative. On Sunday, guests gathered in the luxurious theater room to watch the highly anticipated race while enjoying special wine pairings from Wine Access and fresh beverages from Stella Artois. The weekend was also hosted by the revolutionary private aviation company XO. The backyard was adorned with luxurious white leather seating and an array of white roses and hydrangeas. Notable attendees throughout the weekend included Patrick Carroll, Larsa Pippen, Zana White, Haute Media Group CEO Kamal Hotchandani, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Regional General Manager Martin Corsunsky, Mike Rodriguez of Braman Miami, and head of wine for Wine Access, Vanessa Conlin.

Haute Media Group hosted an exclusive dinner alongside co-hosts RollsRoyce Motor Cars and Jacob & Co. for their VIP clients. The private affair took place at a stunning Palm Island home overlooking the water, and was indeed an unforgettable, star-studded evening. Famed artist Romero Britto was in attendance and given the ultimate surprise: Founder and chairman of Jacob & Co., Jacob Arabo — or “Jacob the Jeweler” — gifted Britto a special Jacob x Britto timepiece. The rare timepiece, the Palatial Five Time Zone Romero Britto Edition with a black PVD 45mm stainless steel case, features five different time zones and the dial reveals a Romero Britto-inspired art piece. Arabo was also the latest star on the cover of Haute Time, which was unveiled ahead of the weekend’s festivities. During the party, attendees made their way outside for Rolls-Royce’s grand reveal. Rolls-Royce presented the bespoke Black Badge Ghost in Iced Gunmetal Grey — a collection of only 11 cars in the world finished with this paint treatment — to special clients, Daymond and Heather John. Renowned for his Shark Tank fame and serial entrepreneurial endeavors, Daymond John added this Black Badge commission to his impressive collection. Other guests of honor were Foodgod Jonathan Cheban, Venus Williams, Mike Rodriguez of Braman Miami, and head of wine for Wine Access, Vanessa Conlin.

an intimate dinner at the legendary The Surf Club Restaurant, helmed by Thomas Keller, one of the world’s most successful chefs and restaurateurs. Alongside Swiss luxury timepiece brand Vacheron Constantin and premier single malt Scotch whisky brand The Glen Grant, Haute Living fashioned a one-of-a-kind evening in honor of Keller, the latest Haute Living Miami cover star and esteemed Michelin star chef. Set against the sophisticated setting of The Surf Club Restaurant, guests were offered an exclusive look at curated Vacheron Constantin timepieces on display and greeted upon arrival with cocktails from The Glen Grant’s bar, including the brand’s renowned 15-yearold expression and the signature cocktail, ‘The Glen Grant Major.’ As guests sat down for the incredible dining experience ahead, Alexander Schmiedt, the president of Vacheron Constantin Americas, gave a toast warmly welcoming guests. The three-course dinner menu was a testimony of chef Keller’s culinary excellence, with elegant dishes like the ricotta gnudi with black winter truffles and slow poached dover sole ragout. Chef Keller also gave a heartfelt toast, sharing the story of how he found his passion for both cooking and luxury timepieces. To end the evening, the Global Whisky Advocate for Campari Group, Robin Coupar, stunned guests with surprise tastings of The Glen Grant’s highly awarded core range of 12-year-old, 15-year-old, and 18-year-old blends. Other notable guests in attendance included Kevin O’Leary, Foodgod Jonathan Cheban, and Lennox Lewis.

THE RACE TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING 1
2
AS MCLAREN QUOTED, MIAMI “STEPPED INTO A WORLD OF EXHILARATION,”
while watching the Formula 1 races in Miami activate. As the thrilling weekend was coming to a close and drivers were full speed ahead on their last few laps on the track, McLaren paired up with AuthenticID, a provider of identity proofing and fraud prevention solutions, to launch the All for Humanity Shield project. The event, held at the exotic Sexy Fish restaurant in Miami, paid tribute to the multipart pilot project for both the public and private sector, aimed to make cities safer through donated identity verification technology and training to fight human trafficking. Although human trafficking would have been expected to be behind us, the still $150M industry continues to be a large global threat to humanity today. A red flag in human trafficking is the popular hospitality and entertainment industry. So as thousands of fans flooded the stands and the roar of engines took over, it was only proper that the Human Shield project was set in motion during one of the largest weekends in Miami, the kick-off weekend of the Formula 1 races. Beginning in Miami, the Human Shield project will work alongside sporting and entertainment venues and hotels to train their employees on anti-human trafficking prevention with the curriculum designed by trafficking survivor himself, Dr. Brook Bello, CEO of More Too Life. In addition, the program will include access to the identity verification technology inspired by the president of AuthenticID, Jeff Jani’s race to end human trafficking. While among law enforcement groups, Jani saw a loophole in the system: Officers and first responders didn’t have the tools to correctly identify victims of enslaved trafficking or, better yet, know how to pinpoint a possible trafficking tactic. Using the new technology, it’s anticipated that the gap in the system will continue to close, on a city-by-city basis. Racing forward, AuthenticID plans to team up with McLaren at the next Formula 1 U.S.-based event to continue to spread awareness and grow the All for Humanity Alliance globally.

and recognition at the Biltmore Hotel. Haute Media Group gathered a collection of distinguished and influential figures at the venerable Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables to commemorate the stunning work of Hungarian artist, Ágnes Nagy. Fittingly enough, the South Florida SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals) was also in attendance to announce a wonderful initiative the charitable organization conducted alongside the animal-loving artist. Besides so many of Nagy’s works having to do with animals, she is also truly passionate about the protection of animals and preventing their abuse. Naturally, this aligns with the SPCA’s work, which has been saving abandoned and abused horses and livestock in the South Florida region since 1992. It was announced during the event that Nagy had collaborated with the SPCA to fund a charitable event for the evening of Thursday, February 24th in Miami Beach. The event was announced by Angela Birdman, who does plenty of work saving abandoned and abused dogs as a member of the board of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. Proceeds to this event funded all of the good work done by the SPCA. Dubbed as the Ágnes Nagy Angela Birdman Animals Art Amour, the event was organized by Haute Living and Platform. The exhibition “Soulmates,” which launched during Art Basel 2021 and ran through March 2022, displayed some of Nagy’s most iconic and striking works yet. Viewings were conducted by appointment at Platform, a salonstyle gallery located at Meridian Avenue in Miami Beach. The intimate and gorgeous event at the Biltmore Hotel included the best in food and beverage for the exclusive group of attendees and they enjoyed a memorable evening in one of the most stunning spaces in all of Coral Gables. After being welcomed by a wonderful selection of white and red wines, guests were treated to a beautiful menu. To get things started, a beautiful salad of baby gem lettuce and saffron poached pear was served with whipped raspberry, goat cheese, candied walnuts and orange tamarind vinaigrette. This was followed by two wonderful entrées: The first was a larger brined Frenched chicken breast, served with red cabbage bacon slaw, roasted fingerling and leek crushed potato, broccoli, red wine gastrique and roasted tomatoes. The alternative entrée option was a seared king salmon with anise parsnip purée, roasted Thumbelina carrots, baby yellow beets and sauce ormandy. For dessert, guests enjoyed a white chocolate bombe exotic with a mango sauce cream center. All in all, this was a lovely way to celebrate Ágnes Nagy’s wonderful art while honoring a great and noble cause.

TWO-TIME PRO BOWLER DEMARCUS LAWRENCE HOSTED FRIENDS AND family, as well as members of Haute Living’s rank and file, at a magical evening that included great food and wine. Villa Azur, the French Mediterranean luxury
restaurant located at the W Hotel in Dallas, has been at the forefront of the global dining and culinary experience since its inception in 2012 in Miami Beach. The glitzy restaurant provided the perfect backdrop for the celebration. Marketing agency, Enclave & Key, along with founder Blake Wynn, supported Haute Living in the evening’s celebrations. Lawrence was accompanied by his wife, Sasha, and daughter Mariah, while Pinea Wines and Gracida Wines generously provided a wide selection of wines to suit every palette and kept the corks popping and the wine flowing throughout the evening. For the incredible meal, guests were offered appetizers such as the Villa Azur salad, arancini lobster, prime carpaccio, and seared octopus. Main courses included pâtés à la meule, whole roasted chicken, and whole branzino. The meal was capped off by the chef’s assorted desserts. Throughout the evening the love of the game was apparent as former NFL stars and current teammates of Lawrence’s were in attendance. Haute Media Group Senior VP April Donelson delivered a touching speech commending Lawrence’s family values and his excellence displayed both on and off the field. Before Lawrence invited guests to his very own after-party, there was a delightful Perrier-Jouët Bottle parade accompanied by the waving of the Dallas flag. at Rosa Sky in Brickell on April 27th. Hosted by Haute Living, the evening brought together clients from every network for a night to make merry and make connections. As guests stepped off the elevator, they were greeted with the charming and whimsical rooftop décor of Rosa Sky. Drinks were at the ready with an assortment of cocktails that included the lounge’s staple, Rosa Sky, which consisted of Grey Goose lemon vodka and sparkling rosé; there were also wines to suit every palette. Food-wise light bites were on offer and included charcuterie boards, miso roasted cauliflower, and buffalo chicken empanadas. With glass in hand, Haute Leaders mixed and mingled while making connections and fast friendships across networks and businesses. As evening turned to night with the beautiful Brickell skyline in view, guests got in the groove as the DJ kept the pace and the mood with her selections; also in the musical mix was a very talented saxophone player. HAUTE LIVING CAPPED OFF THE 2022 NFL DRAFT WEEKEND BY
celebrating Haute Living Las Vegas cover star Alesso at Chica Las Vegas. The 30-year-old Grammy-nominated DJ had already kicked off his residency at Tao Beach a month earlier and prior to the celebration, had played to a jam-packed house at the newly renovated venue at The Venetian. Alesso, born Alessandro Renato Rodolfo Lindblad, arrived at the event, which was presented by Enclave & Key and Remy Martin, with his girlfriend Erin Cummins and her family. As it was Draft Week, the guest list, unsurprisingly, included a slew of NFL stars such as Hall of Famer, Heisman winner, and former Haute Wine & Spirits cover star Charles Woodson; David Tyree, best known for the Helmet Catch, a late-game reception in Super Bowl XLII that helped New York Giants secure one of the greatest sports upsets of all time; former inside linebacker Hayes Pullard; and John Crockett of the Green Bay Packers, Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens. After a cocktail reception, Haute Media Group Senior Vice President April Donelson thanked Alesso and invited guests into the restaurant’s gorgeous private room for a Remy Martin toast to the DJ. Appreciation was also expressed for presenting brands 50 Eggs Hospitality Group, influencer marketing agency Enclave & Key, and Remy Martin US, as well as guests, including Enclave & Key co-founder Blake Wynn, Remy Martin’s Anthony Carideo, Kyle Schroeder, Jordan Greenfield, Tobias Kleff, Sanjay and Evan Sharma, Sam Landis, and Haute Media Group Editor-in-Chief Laura Schreffler.

Paradise Defined BY BROOKE KLAIMAN
PARADISE IS DEFINED AS AN IMAGINARY PLACE OR STATE OF UTTER PERFECTION AND HAPPINESS.
WHAT’S TO COME
Substantial growth on Atlantis Paradise Island is underway with the recent announcement of multimilliondollar renovations and partnerships. What’s to come for the already notable beachfront resort includes the redevelopment of The Beach Tower and all Royal Tower guestrooms and suites, a reimagined Atlantis Casino, and the addition of a third Michelin-starred chef restaurant to its already premier and an extremely delicious roster of celebrity chef culinary masterpieces, including Fish by José Andrés; Nobu by Nobu Matsuhisa; and Olives by Todd English.
THE ROYAL
At this time, all of the Royal Towers East rooms have already seen a complete renovation both in the rooms and bathrooms, with Royal Tower West under construction. Design elements in the room encapsulate the fresh natural seascape of aquamarine waters, pure white-sand beaches, and the “rain forests of the sea,” or coral reefs, allowing guests to sit back, relax, and enjoy the very heart of the Bahamas.

But to some there might be a slight inaccuracy in the word “imaginary.” While we all have our own ideas of what paradise is or should be, that doesn’t mean paradise doesn’t exist. Truth be told, it does. And for me, after stepping foot on the white-sand beaches of Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas — it was like paradise has been found. For more than two decades, Atlantis has figured prominently in the global hospitality industry. Through Atlantis’ immersive programming, guests have the opportunity to dive into the rich history, art, people, food, and festivities of the exhilarating Bahamian culture while remaining dedicated to sustainability and environmental conservation. Including the landmarked Royal Towers and Bridge Suite that stands at the forefront of the property, Atlantis features five unique stays with the newest being the all-suite luxury accommodations at The Cove, and boy, are these something to write home about. From the moment you arrive on the property, you are greeted with the beautifully designed landscape and monumentally grand entrances that call for an instant breath of relaxation. Upon exploring what Paradise Island has to offer with the user-friendly Atlantis mobile app, you’ll be presented with the thrill of the 141-acre action-packed Aquaventure waterscape, the world’s largest open-air marine habitat, five miles of beachfront, 11 luxurious pools, the award-winning Mandara Spa and more.

THE COVE
Heading over to The Cove at Atlantis, there have been exciting additions to the palatial resort that is nestled between two private beaches. The Cove is equipped with 600 luxury suites with floor-to-ceiling ocean views. Guests staying in select suites are granted access to food and drink service at the reconceptualized Lapis Club Lounge, on the 22nd floor. Past the rooms are the exclusive adults-only pool for couples as well as three other kid-friendly pools for families just steps away from The Cove Beach. Who you take on your vacation with you will undoubtedly determine which aspects and offerings of the resort you will seek out, but good odds it will be the adultsonly pool as it is the hottest locale across all properties. This exclusive pool only allows The Cove hotel guests access to the 20 private cabanas, stylish daybeds, poolside games, and an expansive food menu at the Cove’s poolside restaurant, Sip Sip. In the mood for an amazing grilled beet salad? A luxury mojito? Freshly sourced sip sip lobster quesadilla? Sip Sip has you covered with all things “Caribterranean” fare - Bahamian cuisine with a twist.

THE SAPPHIRE SERVICES PROGRAM
To further enhance the already elegant retreat experience provided by The Cove is the Sapphire Services program, which offers adventurous guests opportunities both on and off the property. Currently, guests can immerse themselves in behind-the-scenes tours at Dolphin Cay and Atlantis’ fish hospital, take day trips to nearby family islands by boat, participate in turtle release excursions to Rose Island and so much more. With Sapphire Services, Atlantis and The Cove guests can also experience offproperty “Bahamas at Heart” excursions where they will absorb the exclusiveness and sheer peacefulness of The Bahamas outer islands via Coco Bahama Air as well as a parade of other day activities. Whether you want to swim with the pigs of Exuma, dive into a sea-to-table family-styled lunch on Kamalame Cay under remote Andros Island’s famous palapa, or set sail into the crisp blue waters, the choice is yours. Now and looking beyond the renovations, Atlantis Paradise Island will continue to attract guests from near and far, a testament to the resort’s paradise vibe being the ultimate real deal.
