The phrase is painted directly onto the court. YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK. Big, bold, unapologetic — and for reasons I cannot fully explain, it immediately makes me think of Christopher Robin taking Winnie the Pooh’s hand and reminding him that he is stronger than he seems, braver than he believes, and smarter than he thinks. When I bring this up to Kawhi Leonard, he laughs politely and admits he knows the character but not the quote. He gets it immediately. The phrase isn’t just on this court, he tells me. It’s also painted on a court in Moreno Valley, California — the city where he grew up, where there was no roadmap, no former NBA player showing him the way, no insider explaining which decisions mattered and which ones could derail everything. Two championships. Two Finals MVPs. Two Defensive Player of the Year awards. Seven All-Star selections. Seven All-NBA nods. A place on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. One of the most accomplished two-way players in basketball history. Yet, here, talking about a court and a quote from Winnie the Pooh, none of that feels like the point. When I ask him what he wishes somebody had told him at twelve years old, the answer comes immediately. “I wish I just had a foundation or somebody that was close to some type of college or NBA team,” he says. “It was kind of like learn as I go. You know, being young, being in Moreno Valley… dad’s far away. Not really in basketball like that.” Suddenly the courts make more sense. So do the free leagues he is building in Moreno Valley and the opportunities he is trying to create for kids coming up behind him. Leonard spent years figuring it out as he went. Now he is trying to make sure the next generation doesn’t have to. “So if somebody was an NBA player or college player around the time I could get some guidance from, to make sure I’m on the right path,” he says, “that would have been amazing. But everything works out.” It is such a Kawhi answer. No bitterness. No what-ifs. Just an acknowledgment that the path was harder than it needed to be — and a determination to make it easier for the next kid. Instead, he figured it out himself — through observation, repetition, and what turns out to have been a surprisingly intense hatred of losing. “I just

cared about winning a lot,” he says. The understatement makes me laugh. Because a few minutes later he casually admits that he used to cry after losses. Not occasionally. Regularly. “Soon as the game over, if we lose, I’ll just start crying,” he says. Then he laughs. “Like, damn, we lost. I thought you supposed to win every game.” For all the mythology that has built up around Leonard over the years, there is something oddly endearing about the image of a young Kawhi genuinely believing that the entire point of sports was never to lose. The competitiveness never disappeared. It simply grew up. When I ask how he deals with losing now, the answer reveals everything about how his mind actually works. “We have so many games and the turnaround time — if I was crying, I probably wouldn’t be as good as I am,” he says. “Everything is a part of a process. The first game doesn’t mean we’re not going to win a championship.” He talks about it the way a long-game investor talks about a bad quarter: context is everything, and the only number that matters is the one at the end. “If my team is, whatever, five out of ten when the season starts, it’s about making sure that five gets to eight or nine,” he says. “That’s where I judge performance now — based on championships and progression of the team.” The kid who cried at eight years old is still in there. He just learned to aim the feeling at something bigger. Now, when Leonard talks about discipline, he doesn’t frame it as sacrifice. He frames it as choice. “I’m not going to hang out with them today. I’m going to shoot jump shots. I’m not going to play video games today. I’m not going to a party.” He says it with the calm of someone describing their coffee order, which somehow makes it land harder. The formula sounds almost deceptively simple until you look at all of the accolades it has produced. “With anything, it takes consistency and discipline,” he says. “It’s about separating yourself from distractions.” In an era where visibility is so often mistaken for influence, Leonard became iconic by simply refusing to perform fame — and putting every hour he wasn’t performing it into becoming better than everyone else. That same philosophy has found its way back to Moreno Valley. The phrases painted across his courts — Have Fun. Play Hard. God Is Good. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 9

This Life Is Beautiful. You Are Stronger Than You Think. — are not branding exercises or charitable optics. “They all motivate me,” he says. “Those are quotes I live by.” And You Are Stronger Than You Think carries weight that goes well beyond the kids standing under it. “It’s a point to show you that it’s a marathon,” Leonard explains. “Just because it’s a hard time, don’t think you can’t go even harder or work harder… once you break through, that’s usually when greatness comes.” Listening to Leonard talk about his home, where he played ball as a teenager, it is difficult not to think about the twelve-year-old version of himself — the one trying to figure it out alone, the one who wished somebody connected to a college or NBA program had been around to help guide him. The court feels less like a monument than a conversation between the two. Rwanda came later. Leonard’s first trip to Africa brought him to a weeklong Giants of Africa festival where children from 25 countries gathered to play basketball, learn to dance, and spend time together. Leonard rarely tells stories the way you expect him to. Ask most athletes about a trip like that and you’ll get a speech about perspective. Ask Kawhi Leonard and he starts with traffic. “It was crazy how people were driving in the streets,” he says. A few minutes later, he casually mentions meeting the president of Rwanda and playing basketball at his house. Then he pivots right back to the altitude. “About 75 degrees,” he says. “No mosquitoes.” Of all the things he could have remembered from his first trip to Africa, somehow the weather report feels like the most Kawhi answer imaginable. Still, one thing clearly stayed with him. “I’m grateful I went,” he says. More importantly: “We’re going to keep doing it. Throughout the world, really.” There is no grand speech attached to that statement. No dramatic declaration about changing lives. Just a simple promise to keep showing up. Listening to Leonard, that seems to be how most meaningful things happen. The biggest surprise of our conversation arrives when I ask Leonard what is most fulfilling in his life right now. Given everything we have spent the last half hour discussing — the courts, the leagues, the animation projects, the production company — I am expecting the work to be the answer. It isn’t. “Just being around family and seeing my kids grow up,” he says, without hesitation. “What I’m teaching them — that brings me more fulfillment than any of this.” When I ask what the number one lesson is, he says: “Don’t fight each other.” I laugh. He doesn’t. Then he adds: “We are stronger together.” Somehow the answer manages to be both completely ordinary and exactly right. Not every lesson needs to be complicated. Sometimes it is enough to teach people how to be on the same team.

If you had asked me before this interview what Kawhi Leonard wanted to talk about after basketball, animation would not have made the list. Neither would painters. Or lyricists. Or craftsmanship. And yet that is exactly where our conversation goes. “The time is now,” Leonard tells me when I ask about life beyond basketball. Not retirement, he is quick to clarify. Expansion. The focus that built a Hall of Fame résumé has widened. And what it has widened toward is far more interesting than I expected. “Most people think I act how I play,” Leonard says with the ghost of a smile. Maybe that’s true. Or maybe we’ve all spent so much time trying to decode Kawhi Leonard that we forgot to pay attention to what actually interests him. The stoicism, it turns out, has an origin story. “I think it started off just being on the Spurs,” he says, “just seeing the older vets and how they carried themselves and what they wanted their players to act like on the floor.” The Spurs, under Gregg Popovich, famously ran one of the most understated franchises in professional sports — a culture shaped in no small part by Tim Duncan, who won five championships and retired without ever seeming particularly interested in being celebrated for it. Leonard was young and paying close attention. “Once I started doing that, they kind of put me in the Tim Duncan thing because they wanted me to be the face of the franchise,” he says. “And I don’t know, it just kind of carried on from there.” What started as institutional behavior absorbed itself into something personal — until the composure was no longer about fitting a mold but about genuinely not needing the external noise to confirm anything. It is also one of the few moments in our conversation where Leonard actively pushes back on a public perception. The quietness, the composure, the refusal to perform emotion — people often talk about those traits as though they appeared out of nowhere, as though Kawhi Leonard arrived in the league fully formed and simply declined to participate in everything around him. Leonard sees it differently. Those qualities were learned, observed, and absorbed from the veterans around him, refined over years, and then — gradually, without announcement — they simply became part of who he was. “I just usually put my head down and work,” he says. In a sports media landscape built on reaction content and manufactured controversy, that approach has always looked like avoidance. Sitting across

from him, it feels less like avoidance and more like someone who figured out a long time ago that not every thought needs to be shared. Leonard recently launched his own production company and is now actively developing projects ranging from commercials to animation. One of his current focuses is executive producing and directing his own New Balance campaign — which he speaks about less as a branding exercise and more as a long-overdue opportunity to tell his story on his own terms. “They gave me the green light to do my campaign,” he says. “So I’ll be shooting the commercial, being executive producer and director, and making sure I tell my story right.” That last part sticks with me. Making sure I tell my story right. Because for years, an awful lot of people have spent an awful lot of time trying to explain Kawhi Leonard. Coaches. Teammates. Commentators. Fans. Entire television panels dedicated to deciphering what he might be thinking. Leonard, meanwhile, was mostly busy doing the work. The stories he actually wants to tell are not about himself — they are about craft, process, and the hidden discipline behind mastery. “I’m working on an animation right now to tell short stories about craftsmanship,” he explains. “Different avenues of athletes, entrepreneurs, artists… painters, lyricists.” It traces back, he says, to not seeing enough of a different perspective on life being shown — to stories that simply aren’t told that much. Of all the things Leonard says in our conversation, this may surprise me most. Not because athletes aren’t creative — plenty are — but because Leonard’s version of creativity sounds remarkably similar to his version of basketball. His own creative circle includes friends who fell into fashion, music production, painting, and clothes. “We all just talk about the journey,” he says. “How we get inspired throughout the day and how we see the day differently. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everybody’s day is seen different depending on their craftsmanship or their job.” Because what Leonard is describing — the way a painter sees a day differently than a producer, the way a lyricist moves through the world differently than someone who makes clothes — is the same argument he makes about basketball. Repetition builds something. Discipline protects it. The thing you make, whether it is a jump shot or a piece of music or a line of clothing, is the accumulation of thousands of private moments nobody else sees. Leonard understood this about basketball before he understood almost anything else. The crying after losses, the skipped parties, the extra jump shots at midnight — all of it was part of the work. The same way a painter returns to the canvas. The same way a producer goes back into the studio at 2 a.m., not because anyone asked them to but because the project isn’t right yet and they can feel it. “Just showing different avenues,” he says of the animation project. “How like friends got into fashion, one of my friends how they got into music.” He pauses. “How we see the day different, really.” What he is building now — the production company, the animation, and the New Balance campaign on his own terms — is not a

departure from the athlete. It is the athlete, applied somewhere new. The same instinct that made him stay in the gym when everyone else left is the same instinct that makes him want to tell stories nobody else is telling. He just finally has the time and the platform to do it. When I ask what he values now that he wouldn’t have understood ten years ago, the answer arrives in two words. “Personal time,” he says. Classic Kawhi — the most compressed possible answer that somehow contains everything. The man who spent a decade eliminating every distraction in pursuit of greatness has arrived at the other side of it and found that the thing he wants most is simply space. Time that belongs to him. Time that doesn’t have to produce anything. That same obsession now extends to how he thinks about his body — though not in the way you might expect from someone whose physical availability has generated more television panel debate than perhaps any other topic in recent NBA history. The methodology is rigorous: blood testing to identify food sensitivities, ice baths, red light therapy, saunas, stretching, weightlifting, and biomechanics work. Not trends. Tools. But when I ask him what he considers the greatest luxury in life, his answer reframes the entire conversation. “Health,” he says, without a pause. “You can’t do nothing without health. As soon as somebody gets sick, they’re just in a bed, or you’re told you can’t do certain things.” Then he goes somewhere more personal: “Whoever it is — your loved ones — you want them to be able to walk, run, talk, spend time with you.” For a man who has spent years having his own health discussed in the abstract by people who have never met him, there is something quietly powerful about hearing him locate the meaning of it not in performance, but in presence. In being there. That word — presence — keeps surfacing in different forms throughout our conversation. He talks about peace the same way: not as an absence of feeling, but as a form of protection. “I think it’s about being at peace,” he says. “Knowing the outcome is not going to affect your peace.” The calmness is not accidental; it is cultivated, learned, and protected. “No game is perfect. No season is perfect,” he says. “If you live on the highs and lows, you’re going to have a stressful season.” Or, he doesn’t add but clearly means, a stressful life. Maybe that’s the thing people have misunderstood about Kawhi Leonard all along. The silence was never the story. It just happened to be the easiest thing to talk about. The real story was everything happening alongside it: the courts in Moreno Valley, the free youth leagues, the production company, the animation projects, the opportunities he is trying to create for kids who are standing where he once stood. None of it announced with fanfare. None of it performed for an audience. Just built, piece by piece. Kawhi Leonard has spent his entire career teaching the world not to mistake silence for absence. Some people lead loudly. Others build quietly — court by court, lesson by lesson, story by story — until one day you look up and realize what they’ve created was there all along. Stronger than you think.

When Louis Vuitton launched the Horizon suitcase in 2016, in collaboration with Marc Newson, the most celebrated industrial designer of his generation, it proposed a new standard for what travel could look like in the 21st century. A decade later, that proposition takes its most ambitious form yet with the Horizon Aluminum: Louis Vuitton’s first aluminum suitcase, and its most technically extraordinary one yet. The material is not incidental. Aluminum echoes Louis Vuitton’s own history — at the end of the 19th century, the House crafted aluminum trunks for explorers — while the Monogram motif, embossed directly into the shell, functions as a structural element as much as a design signature. What separates the Horizon Aluminum from anything else on the market is what you cannot see. Traditional rivets have been replaced by an ultra-thin frame system with no folding or riveting — a first in luggage design — and external hinges have been replaced by concealed mechanisms as precise as a fine watch movement. The result is a surface of absolute purity, with clean lines uninterrupted by any mechanical component, exactly as Newson intended. Inside, a thermoformed lining creates a perfectly flat main compartment of unrivaled capacity. TSA-certified locks, an extra-wide telescopic handle, and enlarged shock-absorbing wheels complete an object built to bear the marks of its journeys — with dents and scratches embraced as cherished souvenirs.

Since 1998, Louis Vuitton has approached travel the way it approaches everything: with the conviction that the finest experiences are the ones most carefully considered. The City Guide series — now spanning 43 destinations in both print and digital formats — has always been less a conventional travel guide and more a literary act of discovery, written by journalists, authors, and cultural figures who know their cities the way only true insiders can. This spring, eight editions have received updated releases: Bangkok, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, Rome, and Tokyo. Each edition has been enriched with exclusive, previously unpublished content, including, for the first time, an illustrated section tracing each city’s history through 40 key dates, presented as a chronological narrative by French illustrator Laurent Cilluffo. A new “People Power” section also introduces ten notable locals per city, photographed by local artists and profiled across fields spanning hospitality, fashion, culture, and sport. As each location has been intimately curated, and the guest contributors this year were deliberately chosen. Chef Chalee Kader guides readers through Bangkok. Matthew Yokobosky, senior curator of Fashion and Material Culture at the Brooklyn Museum, takes on New York. Artist Eva Jospin shares her vision of Paris. DJ and electronic music producer Daniel Avery navigates London. And Dejha Carrington, co-founder of Commission, brings her art-world perspective to Miami. Each edition is also photographed by Parisbased photography collective Tendance Floue, whose local portraits introduce fresh visual signatures steeped in the respective city’s culture.

The Louis Vuitton City Guide has always understood that the most useful travel intelligence is also the most human. Its structure reflects that instinct at every turn — from “24 Hours in the City,” which traces 12 unbeatable experiences from breakfast at sunrise to staying out until dawn, to “Scenic Route,” a set of walking tours designed to slow the pace and reveal the city on foot. Categories spanning rooms, dining, nightlife, shopping, design galleries, museums, and independent bookshops ensure that whether you are a first-time visitor or a cultivated local, the guide offers something worth knowing. The digital experience extends the series well beyond the printed page. The Louis Vuitton City Guide app — available for iPhone and iPad across all 43 destinations — features regularly updated addresses, real-time geolocation mapping, customizable itineraries, and the option to send e-postcards directly from the app. On Apple TV, each city is presented through audiovisual essays, photographic portfolios, and video postcards never shown elsewhere. And on Louis Vuitton’s Tambour Horizon smartwatch, the app’s “Near Me” and “24H” features are available on the wrist, wherever the journey leads — ultimately allowing you to be a part of Louis Vuitton’s world at any moment. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 33

DREAM FACTORY JONATHAN ANDERSON BROUGHT DIOR’S CRUISE 2027 COLLECTION TO LOS ANGELES — AND IN DOING SO, REMINDED THE CITY EXACTLY WHY HOLLYWOOD AND COUTURE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME STORY. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

There are cities that exist as ideas before they exist as places, and Los Angeles has always been both at once — the landscape and the mythology, the boulevard and the dream it promised. On the evening of May 13, 2026, Jonathan Anderson understood this perfectly. He staged Dior’s Cruise 2027 collection — his inaugural Cruise showing for the house — at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, on Wilshire Boulevard, as the sun dropped behind the Hollywood Hills. What unfolded was not a fashion show so much as a conversation between a house and a city that have been speaking the same language for nearly eighty years.

“Christian Dior understood how important the idea of ‘the dream’ was for people after the war — as a form of escapism,” Anderson references in his show notes. “His Surrealist friends were obsessed with dreams and, of course, Hollywood is ‘The Dream Factory.’ It was all part of the same cross-cultural shift.” The setting was an illusion of LA, in LA. Artists, directors, and the city’s creative inner circle filed into LACMA as the show opened with a buttercup yellow dress trailing rosettes and John Lee Hooker playing overhead. Flowers became the collection’s recurring refrain — California poppies rendered in luminous orange, a red dress gathered at the waist by an abstract bloom, a deliberate revival of Christian Dior’s own mid-show wake-up device. Vintage American cars inspired new Saddle bag silhouettes in car-paint finishes with motor key charms. Philip Treacy’s featherwork headpieces rendered typography with impossible precision. Ed Ruscha collaborated on shirts that arrived mid-show with the deadpan grandeur the city deserves. Denim jeans embroidered with fine silver chains made the everyday feel like couture. The collection’s anchor was Stage Fright — the 1950 Hitchcock film for which Marlene Dietrich famously declared, “No Dior, no Dietrich.” By the final carousel, Kelly Watch the Stars overhead, Anderson had made the point: in 2026, the dream factory is still open. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 45

PRO TIP: One of my favorite things about Dior Prestige La Mousse Micellaire is how customizable it is. Add a few drops of water for a lighter, airy foam on minimal-makeup days, or use it straight from the tube in its more concentrated form for a richer cleanse when removing heavier makeup and SPF. It’s essentially two cleansing experiences in one.

HAUTE LIVING: Can you walk us through the new Prestige Cleansers? SARAH AKRAM: The new Dior Prestige cleansers are best thought of as a luxurious at-home cleansing ritual. Start with Le Baume Démaquillant to dissolve makeup, sunscreen, and daily buildup. Follow with La Mousse Micellaire to deeply cleanse and purify while maintaining skin comfort. For those who enjoy a more traditional cleansing experience, Le Savon leaves skin feeling exceptionally soft and conditioned. Finish with Sucre de Gommage once or twice a week to gently polish away dull surface cells and reveal a smoother, more radiant complexion. Together, the ritual delivers a thorough cleanse, gentle exfoliation, and skinconditioning benefits while respecting the integrity of the skin barrier. HL: Why was it so important to incorporate rose-infused elements? SA: Rose in the Dior Prestige line isn’t decorative — it’s functional. It’s used for its soothing and antioxidant properties, but also for supporting skin resilience during cleansing, which is when the barrier is most vulnerable. The rose infusion also elevates the sensorial experience, which matters more than people admit; luxury skincare works best when it signals calm to the skin and the nervous system simultaneously. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 51

There are designers who find inspiration in archives, and then there was Christian Dior, who found his in a garden. The Château de La Colle Noire, his private estate in the Grasse countryside, was planted with hectares of jasmine grandiflorum, centifolia rose, lavender, olive trees, and a vine that still produces rosé today. But it was the hundreds of almond trees — the first to blossom each winter — that captivated him most. He designed every detail of that property to revive the lost Eden of his childhood garden in Granville, and at La Colle Noire, he finally came closest to getting it right.

Kurkdjian, the perfume creation director for the Maison, built Dior Paradise as an olfactory allegory for that pursuit. Bitter almond — rarely foregrounded in perfumery — anchors the composition, brightened by top notes of mandarin, orange, and lime, and grounded by a roasted Tonka bean that carries the sweetness through to the dry-down. It is, as Kurkdjian describes it, a Proustian trigger, the scent equivalent of standing at a window in late winter, watching an orchard come back to life.

Time, In Bloom More than a decade after its debut, Louis Vuitton’s Color Blossom Fine Jewelry collection — available across rings, pendants, bracelets, and earrings in seven stone combinations — now tells the time. The Color Blossom watch arrives in a sunshaped 26mm Monogram Flower case in four distinct versions, from a muted steel and white mother-of-pearl dial to a vibrant amazonite and yellow gold, as well as a precious edition set with nearly one carat of diamonds. “There is an inherently precious essence, which perfectly reflects the Color Blossom collection,” says Matthieu Hegi, artistic director at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. The Monogram Flower, first created in 1896, has never looked more in bloom on the wrist.

TIME

MIAMI MEETS THE REVERSO Jaeger-LeCoultre brought five new Or Deco models and two landmark complications to the Miami Design District — and with a permanent boutique on the way, the Maison is just getting started. Ahead of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique opening in the Miami Design District this fall, the Maison hosted the Reverso Stories PopUp at Sweet Bird North in May, already making a massive impact on the Magic City. To mark the occasion, three new timepieces made their debut: the Reverso Tribute Monoface Or Deco Series, the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 Pegasus, and the Duomètre Heliotourbillon Perpetual in platinum. The stars of the show were undoubtedly the gem-set cocktail watches rooted in Art Deco glamour. The Reverso Tribute Monoface Or Deco Series consists of five new models that expand on the Or Deco universe introduced in 2025 and, in doing so, demonstrate the Reverso’s extraordinary versatility. Three of the five are the Or Deco Cocktail variants: gem-set watches in 18K pink gold set with 46 baguette-cut rubies, and in 18K white gold set with either 46 baguette-cut emeralds or 46 baguette-cut blue sapphires, each limited to 30 pieces. The stones are set using rail setting — an invisible setting

technique perfected in the 1930s — by the gem-setters of JaegerLeCoultre’s Métiers Rares atelier, creating an unbroken line of color and light along the gadroons above and below the dial. The emerald, given its inherent fragility, demanded the most specialized attention of all three. The fourth model is the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds Or Deco in 18K white gold, which is a cool, monochromatic counterpoint to the original pink gold version, limited to 200 pieces. The fifth, and perhaps the most wearable of all, is the Or Deco Solo Tempo in 18K pink gold, a smaller 40.1mm x 24.4mm case that strips the dial back to its essence, dispensing with the small seconds entirely and bringing the Reverso closer than ever to the proportions of the 1930 originals. All five models run on the hand-wound caliber 822 with a 42-hour power reserve, and each is paired with a Milanese mesh bracelet requiring more than 10 meters of 18K gold to construct — a detail that speaks directly to the level of craft involved.

THE ROYAL POP Audemars Piguet × Swatch unveil the most disruptive watch collaboration of 2026 so far. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

PHOTOS COURTESY OF AUDEMARS PIGUET & SWATCH

THE INTERNET WAS BUZZING, AND AI WAS doing its best to

conceptualize what an Audemars Piguet × Swatch collaboration might look like. But if you think back just a few months ago, when the entire watch community was in Geneva in April, noone saw this one coming — and that’s entirely the point. Audemars Piguet and Swatch have joined forces on the Royal Pop, a collection of eight Bioceramic pocket watches that takes two of the most recognizable design languages in Swiss watchmaking and pushes them somewhere neither brand has gone before. It’s bold, it’s colorful, and technically, it’s more considered than it looks. The Royal Pop draws its DNA from two distinct sources. First, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak — the Gerald Genta-designed sports watch that rewrote the rules of fine watchmaking when it launched in 1972, with its octagonal bezel, eight hexagonal screws, and Petite Tapisserie dial pattern that remains one of the most instantly recognizable surfaces in the industry. Then there’s the Swatch POP watch of the 1980s: playful, democratic, and deliberately disruptive. The format itself is the first provocation. The Royal Pop is a pocket watch — not a wristwatch — with a 40mm Bioceramic case and a calfskin lanyard with contrasting stitching, inviting the

wearer to decide how they want to carry it. The number eight runs through every detail as the eight models are a direct nod to the eight sides of the Royal Oak case and its signature bezel screws. Eight additional patents were required for the case construction alone, to faithfully recreate the Royal Oak’s complex combination of rounded octagon, circle, and barrel shape in Bioceramic form. The material itself — two-thirds ceramic powder and one-third biosourced material derived from castor oil — gives the collection both strength and finish that earned it serious technical consideration. All eight models run on a new hand-wound version of Swatch’s SISTEM51, the only Swiss-made mechanical movement in the world with 100% automated assembly, now updated with 15 active patents and a power reserve of more than 90 hours. The anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring, co-developed with Audemars Piguet, already appears in several of the Maison’s own references. One of the eight new case patents covers the barrel drum, which doubles as a power-reserve indicator: gray chambers signal that the watch needs winding, gold means it’s fully wound and running at full power. And finally, the eight colorways span the full breadth of the Pop Art palette. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 65

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider They do make ‘em like they used to … thankfully! THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE WHEN EXPERIENCING THE Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider (or, as Ferrari often denotes it, “Ferrari Dodici Cilindri,” which means “Ferrari 12 Cylinder” in Italian) is its overall shape. The car’s outline greatly resembles the legendary and world-dominating mid-century Ferrari road rockets, those of hood (“bonnet”) long and tail (“boot”) short, all the better to ensconce the lucky driver and passenger and their luggage while being motivated by a prodigious V-12 motor. Ah, that sweetly sonorous engine: to some tifosi (“rabid fans”), that’s truly the automotive ASMR creator. Ferrari points out that the concept behind this new machine “draws inspiration from open-topped Ferrari Gran Turismo models of the 1950s and ‘60s” — how beautifully they have brought that concept to life. You will note that Ferrari named it excluding the space between “12” and “Cilindri,” as they have done with other models on several occasions. Maybe, like the cars that they create, they’re always in a hurry. Regardless of the genesis of that nomenclature, this car is no poseur as it has all of the class, nimbleness, and oomph required to be a top-tier two-seater grand touring convertible. This is the part of the story where we typically would mention the supercharger or the twin-turbo and all of the power and torque that come from that setup. However, this is a naturally aspirated car, meaning that it breathes unfettered and unboosted air. That allows for a much more responsive accelerator pedal and a more appealing sound, unmuffled by any blockage of the intake or exhaust sounds. And when you buy a

Ferrari, the sound alone is worth the price of admission. So why not enjoy it, especially when this twelve-pot engine can redline at 9,500 RPM? It has the scream of the banshees, and I mean that in a good way. Some cars foreshadow their arrival with clever grilles, fancy headlights, and multistraked running lights. Ferraris arrive with great aplomb, being at once gorgeously elegant and menacingly snarling. The 12Cilindri does all that and more, especially at a time when all-electric seems to be the current moteur de jour. This is a car that joyously lights up any scene (and tire). Now, it’s time for the fun facts. With 820 horsepower and 500 ft-lbs of torque from its 6.5-liter V12, this machine hits 60 in under 3 seconds and sings all the way to 9,500 RPM. Those stats, when coupled with the looks and sound of this primo machine, typically bring the buyer home. The looks and performance of this machine are next-level. As much as Ferrari is highly (and deservedly) proud of its heritage, it’s also on the cutting edge of innovation and execution — thanks in no small part to its legendary racing heritage. For example, the torque of the prodigious engine is actually modified automatically, depending upon the transmission gear that the driver has chosen. This is a remarkable feat of software engineering, present for the very first time in a car with a naturally-aspirated engine, and it provides smooth and almost seamless acceleration as the driver rockets through the gears. As is their wont, Ferrari has also included the most sophisticated emissions-reduction system ever to comply with the always-more-stringent air quality standards.

Back to the original concept of the look of this wondrous machine, the stance is like a tiger getting ready to pounce, emphasized by the long nose / short tail and further enhanced by the stately 21” rims that, depending upon the buyer’s desire (and budget), can be shod with low-profile tires framing colored-to-order brake calipers (“mine” wore gold, thank you very much). And while we’re on the topic of the build sheet, take a gander at carbon fiber bits and pieces (engine covers, filter box cover, front spoiler, etc.), which added another five large to the total. Starting with a base price of $507,000 and change, my ride ended up with a total of $661,364 and I thought that each of those options provided the perfect complement to an awesome car. How did I love my multi-day loan? If you’ve read this far, can there be any doubt? Sliding into the driver’s seat of a new Ferrari is an experience not to be missed. A few tweaks of the Manettino (the Formula One-inspired switch on the steering wheel to adjust settings like throttle response, traction control, sound, and so forth) and then the shiny-red “Start” button brings the dragon out of its lair. The sound of a V12 Ferrari start up is second only to the sound of a V12 Ferrari at full honk (but if you keep that sound going for too long, you’ll hear sounds of law enforcement coming from behind you). Going through the hills around Malibu, accelerating through sweepers, calling forth the immaculate throttle-blip-enhanced downshifts, and the cornering as precise as a hot knife through butter — what’s not to like? Yet with all of the swagger and performance of a track car, the 12Cilindri knows how to behave and is perfectly docile when it needs to be, even in stop-and-go traffic. This is Los Angeles, after all, so no road test would be complete without that slog. And with a convertible hard top that can disappear and reappear in mere seconds, it truly is a car for all reasons and for all seasons. @hauteauto HAUTE LIVING 67

eorge Russell operates at a level where every fraction of a second counts. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One driver and current championship leader has built his career on a simple conviction: that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s the path to it. Off the track, that same clarity shapes everything from the way he travels to the fragrances he reaches for before a significant moment. In fact, his latest partnership with AMAFFI, the fine perfume house that operates—as Russell puts it—at the absolute highest level, feels less like a brand deal and more like a natural extension of how he moves through the world—with intention, with purpose, and with nothing left to chance.

HL: There are clear parallels between the precision of engineering in your sport and the craftsmanship of fine perfumery. Both disciplines rely on meticulous detail to create a performance that is both sensory and emotional. In this context, how do you define modern craftsmanship? GR: Craft and precision are at the core of everything in my life. I’m fortunate to work with people who are the absolute best in their fields and who take their craft incredibly seriously. AMAFFI is the total embodiment of craft; you see this in their products, which are one-of-a-kind and crafted with such deep care for detail and artistry. When you get the best results from years of perfecting a craft in any field, this result is ultimately very profound and impactful.

HAUTE LIVING: If you weren’t driving, what profession do you see yourself in? GEORGE RUSSELL: This is a no-brainer: I’d be a farmer. I just love spending time in nature, looking after and playing with animals, and tending to the land. My family used to work in agriculture too, so I’ve always been surrounded by that nature of work and could see myself having my own farm one day.

HL: To highlight the brand integration elegantly, what originally drew you to partner with AMAFFI? GR: The first AMAFFI fragrance I tried was Royal Love Story, and it certainly stayed with me. I’m a strong believer that a product should speak for itself, and it was clear they don’t do things by half measures. I later met Didier-Alexandre Ambroise, the Managing Director of AMAFFI, and the rest of the AMAFFI team, and it immediately felt like we had synergy across so many areas. It’s been quite an organic process from the start.

HL: What’s one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you? GR: I love to eat kiwis with the skin on—don’t knock it until you try it! HL: Looking back, if you could give ‘young George’ any advice, what would it be? GR: It would be “Don’t Be Afraid To Fail.” I think failure gets such a bad rep, and actually, it’s through failure that we learn, we grow, and we become stronger. So, I’d say keep pushing, keep going for it, and don’t be discouraged by any failures along the way. HL: Regarding your personal style off the track, what role does scent play in how you present yourself or prepare for significant moments? GR: First impressions are extremely important, and scent plays a vital part in that. Often, people remember what you wore when they met you, and that can help define your look and identity for them, so it’s definitely worth considering carefully. I love pairing scents with specific events too; for example, I save Glory by AMAFFI for very special occasions as I link the scent to celebrations. HL: Speaking of scents, do you find that certain fragrances are associated with specific moments? GR: For sure; I enjoy wearing the AMAFFI Tropical Rain when I’m off the clock, usually in the evenings when I’m spending time with my loved ones. It’s an impactful scent. Similarly, if I’ve got an important business meeting, I’ll accompany this moment with a specific fragrance. I do think there’s a scent for each moment in life; it’s the perfect accessory.

FINAL GEORGE RUSSELL_4PG FEATURE_NY+LA - AF EDIT.indd 29

HL: How does the house resonate with your personal values and pursuit of excellence? GR: They operate at the absolute highest level in fragrance, and they are unmatched in this regard. For AMAFFI, it’s the best or nothing. This is exactly the same mindset that I’ve always had across all aspects of my life, so I feel we are truly aligned in this regard, which is super important. HL: How would you describe AMAFFI in three words, and what does luxury mean to you personally? GR: Elegant, luxurious, and artistry. The whole brand is about delivering a sophisticated experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime, one that’s iconic and indelible. HL: What does “winning” mean to you beyond the podium? GR: It means growth, moving forward, stepping beyond. To me, winning not only symbolizes a milestone but means becoming stronger—becoming better every single day. HL: Finally, since this is our June issue, looking ahead to summer, what are some of your travel plans? Any favorite summer getaway spots? GR: I plan on doing lots of training during the summer, so I’ll be spending most of my time in the gym with my trainer, going on hikes or runs at home, and recharging with family. I also love spending time by the sea and in the ocean, so I’ll be doing some of that. Some places I love are Sardinia, and Lanzarote is beautiful, too.

PARTNER

Moses Hershko Spent Two Decades Inside Silicon Valley’s Inner Circle... Now he’s bringing that vision to South Florida. MOSES HERSHKO DIDN’T SET OUT TO BUILD AN INVESTMENT

platform — he set out to build extraordinary homes for extraordinary people. What emerged from two decades of quiet, meticulous work at the highest level of the technology industry was something far more powerful: a deep, firsthand understanding of how the world’s most successful people want to live, and what it actually takes to deliver that vision at scale. MHD Capital LLC is the natural evolution of that journey. Built on nearly twenty years of designing and constructing world-class residences for Silicon Valley’s most prominent tech entrepreneurs, the platform represents a deliberate and strategic expansion: from building singular homes to shaping entire investment ecosystems. Today, MHD Capital operates as the definitive gateway for investors and buyers seeking to bring California’s most discerning standards of living to Miami and South Florida’s rapidly transforming landscape.

TWO DECADES IN THE MAKING

The story of MHD Capital does not begin in a boardroom, but on job sites and in living rooms across the Bay Area, where Hershko spent nearly two decades earning the trust of some of Silicon Valley’s most demanding clients. Designing and building world-class homes for tech entrepreneurs is not simply a construction exercise — it is an immersion in

how a very particular kind of person thinks, prioritizes, and lives. It means understanding that a founder who has spent years optimizing every system in their company will expect the same intelligence applied to the spaces they inhabit. It means knowing that privacy, wellness, design integrity, and long-term value are not amenities; they are non-negotiables. That proximity to the tech world’s inner circle gave Hershko something no market report could provide: a genuine, relationship-driven understanding of what this community wants next. And increasingly, what they want is South Florida.

FROM SILICON VALLEY TO SOUTH FLORIDA

The migration of technology founders, investors, and executives from California to South Florida is one of the defining real estate stories of the past several years. But for Hershko, it is not a trend he is observing from the outside. It is a movement he has been a part of since its earliest stages, and one he is uniquely positioned to serve. Where did the vision for MHD Capital actually come from? “Nearly two decades of building homes for California’s technology community revealed something consistent: the people we were building for were not just thinking about their next home. They were thinking about their next chapter. As the migration to South Florida accelerated, we saw a clear opportunity, and a clear responsibility. These are clients who have spent

years working with us, who trust our judgment on design, on quality, on what endures. Naturally, they began asking us not just to build for them, but to help them invest alongside us. MHD Capital was created to answer that call. We are the bridge between California and Florida, between private capital and world-class development, between what our clients have built and where they want to take their lives next.” That bridge is not metaphorical. MHD Capital recently closed its first opportunity fund, a $250 million vehicle for retail investors, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s evolution from boutique homebuilder to full-scale investment and development platform.

THE SUPERPOWER NOBODY TALKS ABOUT

In an industry crowded with capital providers and development firms, what MHD Capital offers is something genuinely rare: relationships. Not the transactional kind, but the kind built over two decades of delivering on promises at the highest possible level. When Hershko brings a project to market, he is not starting from scratch with an unknown buyer pool. He is presenting curated opportunities to a network of technology founders, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals who have watched him work up close and who trust what he recommends. So, what do you bring to a development project that a traditional capital partner cannot? “Our edge is not financial engineering. It is human intelligence accumulated over twenty years. We know these buyers personally. We know how they think, what they value, what they will walk away from, and what will genuinely move them. When we partner on a development, we bring not just capital but a qualified, motivated, relationship-driven buyer base that most developers spend years and significant marketing budgets trying to reach. We have already done that work. Our clients are not prospects — they are people who have trusted us with their most personal spaces for decades. That is an entirely different conversation.”

WHAT NEXT-GENERATION LUXURY ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Ask Hershko what the buyers he works with are looking for in Miami, and he does not talk about square footage or finishes. He talks about environments engineered for human performance — sleep quality, air purity, recovery, longevity, and the architecture of a life well-lived. It is a perspective shaped not by trend reports but by years spent inside the homes and lives of people who have already achieved everything traditional wealth can provide, and who are now asking what comes next. What are today’s technology-world buyers actually looking for when they look at Miami? “The individuals arriving from Silicon Valley and the broader California technology ecosystem have the ability to live anywhere and the sophistication to know the difference. They are not simply looking for sunshine and favorable tax treatment — they are looking for a genuine upgrade in how they live. That means exceptional design, wellnessintegrated environments, world-class service, privacy, and a community of peers who share their values and their ambitions. Projects like ORA by Casa Tua, The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Aman Miami Beach, and The Surf Club Four Seasons are already demonstrating what is possible when hospitality thinking meets residential development. That is precisely the standard our clients expect — and what MHD Capital is focused on delivering and investing behind.”

DESIGN AS STRATEGY

Hershko is emphatic that design is not decoration. It is the organizing principle that drives everything else, from pricing power and absorption rates to long-term value and investor returns. The developments that struggle are almost always the ones that treat design as a line item. The ones that endure have made it the foundation of every other decision. How much does exceptional design actually move the needle? “Enormously — and in ways that go far beyond aesthetics. Design directly influences buyer demand, emotional connection, and ultimately investor returns. What captures the attention of an ultra-high-net-worth buyer is not the largest unit or the most expensive finishes. It is a product that feels distinctive, authentic, and genuinely considered. Coming from twenty years of building custom homes for clients who could have anything, we understand what that standard actually requires. Great design is not an expense. It is the most durable competitive advantage a development can have.”

WHAT COMES NEXT

The next chapter of MHD Capital is, by Hershko’s own description, still being written. The platform he is building is less like a traditional investment firm and more like an ecosystem: one built at the convergence of capital, development, design, wellness, and the specific, hard-earned trust of a community that has been with him for the better part of two decades. What does the future of MHD Capital look like? “We are still in the early chapters of what we are building. The vision has always been to create a platform that shapes how people live, not just where they live. What excites us most right now is the convergence of luxury real estate, wellness, and technology — and the opportunity to bring our California relationships and sensibility to the Miami market in a way that nobody else is positioned to do. We are not just another capital provider entering Florida. We are a team that has spent twenty years inside the world our buyers come from. That is the foundation everything else is built on.” There are firms that enter a market and firms that shape one. The difference, almost always, comes down to how long they have truly understood it. MHD Capital has understood this world for twenty years. South Florida is simply where that understanding arrives next. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 91

THE ART OF IT ALL Lori Hyland — painter, novelist, and Chairman of Hilton & Hyland — has never believed in doing one thing when you can do everything beautifully. LORI HYLAND IS THE ULTIMATE MULTIHYPHENATE. SHE IS THE

chairman of Hilton & Hyland, one of the world’s preeminent luxury real estate brokerages. She is also an abstract painter whose large-scale works have hung in major galleries across the United States and Europe. And she is a fiction writer whose subject matter — art stolen from collectors and private homes during World War II — requires equal parts historical rigor and moral imagination. Her home, shared with three 100-pound canine companions, reflects the same sensibility that runs through all of it: a deep love for Art Deco France, for objects that carry meaning, for rooms that feel inhabited rather than staged. Hyland came to all of this through genuine formation. She graduated

from the University of Southern California before going on to study at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts in New York — institutions that take creative work seriously. The education shows. Her paintings are vivid and commanding, the kind of work that earns its scale. Her writing demands the same attention. She took the helm of Hilton & Hyland in 2022, following the passing of her husband, Jeff Hyland, the company’s co-founder and CEO. It was, by any measure, an enormous moment to step into. She did so without visible hesitation and without setting anything else aside. That is ultimately what distinguishes Lori Hyland — not the breadth of what she does, but the completeness with which she does each thing. The brokerage. The canvas. The page. None of it is incidental. All of it is her.

CHRISTINE HONG HAS SPENT MORE THAN TWO DECADES DOING

something the luxury real estate industry talks about but rarely delivers: actually listening. As an Estates Director at Hilton & Hyland — the leading international luxury real estate brokerage, headquartered in Beverly Hills and founded in 1993 — she has built her practice around intuition and the kind of client relationships that outlast any single transaction. Her territory spans Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Holmby Hills, and Malibu, and her approach is simple: understand not just what a home looks like, but what it feels like to live there. The latest property she’s presenting makes that philosophy impossible to ignore. Casa Alta Tierra, at 610 Arkell Drive in Trousdale Estates, is asking $28,500,000 — and from the moment you understand what it offers, that number makes complete sense. Perched on a promontory lot on a quiet cul-de-sac, the two-story residence commands unobstructed views of the city, canyon, and Pacific Ocean that no amount of money can replicate once they’re gone. The grounds are rare for Trousdale, where privacy is already at a premium. Ancient olive trees and a private orchard producing seasonal fruit and vegetables anchor the landscape in something that took genuine

time to grow. Inside, a dramatic entry opens to light-filled living and entertaining spaces with soaring ceilings, chevron-patterned wood floors, and an open-concept layout that breathes. The chef’s kitchen is built for use. The primary suite is a private retreat with resort-level finishes rarely found outside five-star hospitality. The infinity-edge pool outside dissolves into the ocean horizon below. “Casa Alta Tierra is an estate of seclusion and distinction, set against a striking panoramic backdrop,” Hong says. It is a characteristically precise description — specific enough to be useful, restrained enough to leave room for the property to speak for itself. There’s no denying this is precisely the kind of property that requires an agent of Hong’s caliber — someone who understands that the buyers who walk through a home like this have already owned extraordinary properties, and know immediately whether a place is real — and Casa Alta Tierra is. Hilton & Hyland, founded in Beverly Hills in 1993 and widely recognized as one of the world’s leading luxury real estate brokerages, represents the property.
