The only thing Josh Hart loves more than Chelsea is watching Arsenal lose. Not glancing at a score. Not half-listening to a broadcast somewhere in the periphery. Actively, unapologetically, spiritually invested in Arsenal’s potential humiliation — tracking every minute of the UEFA Champions League final the way a man watches a rival get exactly what’s coming to him. He’s muttering “please, please” at the screen, half in the interview and half somewhere over north London, and for a moment it feels less like a conversation than eavesdropping on someone’s private ritual. His team, the New York Knicks, are in their first Finals since 1999 (and will go on to win their first championship since 1973, against the San Antonio Spurs). New York is currently losing its collective mind. And Josh Hart — FIFA World Cup ambassador, franchise cornerstone, the man who just helped end a quarter-century of misery — is very focused on Arsenal not just being defeated, but being destroyed. “I don’t have a dog in the race,” he finally admits, not very sheepishly about it. “I’m just hate-watching because I don’t want Arsenal to win.” He is a Chelsea man. Has been for years. It started, the way most football obsessions start in America, sideways — following an England tournament run, stumbling into John Terry and Frank Lampard, and then falling through a door that never quite closed again. “No. Full-on obsession,” he says when I ask whether his Chelsea support is casual. He means it the way people mean things when they’ve already proved it beyond any reasonable doubt — Chelsea, Washington Commanders, New York Yankees, none of it performative, none of it content. “I’m all in on the things I like,” he says, his attention drifting briefly back toward the screen. “Especially my sports teams.” This is not a man who does anything by halves. He will tell you this himself, unprompted, with no apparent self-consciousness about it. Which is, incidentally, the exact reason FIFA wanted him in the first place. Hart was named a 2026 World Cup ambassador, and the decision makes more sense the longer you talk to him. A lot of American athletes will perform enthusiasm for football when a camera’s around — they know the marquee names, they’ve seen the viral moments, and they can hold a conversation long enough for a photo op. Hart knows that Chelsea had a miserable year marked by a manager change and player turnover that had him screaming at his timeline on match days. He watches live, always, because going on Twitter after missing a match is a form of punishment he has no interest in inflicting on himself. “If I go on Twitter and I miss the match, it’s over,” he says. “I’m gonna know everything that happened in the first five tweets on my timeline. The good, the bad, and the ugly.” This year has provided plenty of all three. “It definitely messes the mood up for a while,” he says. “You’re just like, bro — what is my club doing?” But to understand Hart’s singular focus in this moment, you have to go back to when it all started. “I think it was the 2012 World Cup,” he says. “I was just kind of supporting England, and obviously John Terry and Frank Lampard
were huge on that squad. I just kind of followed them along to Chelsea, and that just kind of grew my love of Chelsea.” He pauses. Something happens on screen. “Come on. Come on. Put it in the back of the net.” He understands that for much of the planet, football isn’t entertainment — it’s the architecture of identity. “It’s a lifestyle,” he says. “Everything revolves around it.” He describes match days near Stamford Bridge the way someone describes a place they have been, not a place they’ve imagined — shops closed, the whole neighborhood funneling toward the ground, everything organized around a single ninety minutes. He represented Team USA at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, played Spain in Málaga with the noise crashing down from every tier, and came home understanding international competition in a way that most American athletes never quite access. He led Team USA in rebounding, averaged 5.3 per game, and filed away what it felt like to play in front of a country rather than a city. “It’s totally different,” he says. “Obviously for basketball, we’re the US — we’re the top dogs. So everybody wants to play you, everybody wants that miracle story. It’s not quite like that for us.” He pauses. “But I get a little bit more appreciation for the culture.” Now that energy is coming to American soil, and Hart has thoughts about why it hasn’t arrived sooner. He lives in Miami in the off-season and has watched Messi’s presence at Inter Miami CF move the needle locally without yet translating nationally — and he has a theory about why. “They got a contract distribution with Apple TV, and I think that kind of went to the highest bidder,” he says. “If it went with something like ESPN, the reach is more.” The World Cup, he believes, is the correction. Not just exposure — conversion. “These younger kids are going to see the passion, the love, the excitement — everything around it,” he says. “I hope this World Cup changes the way Americans look at football. So we can really build and be known in ten, fifteen years as a football power — and not just, okay, cool, they’re here.” He grins. “They’re going to get a glimpse of what true diehard supporters look like.” His NBA teammates are already a preview of that. Jeremy Sohan is a diehard Arsenal supporter. There are Frenchmen in the locker room — Pacome Diawara among them — who are, at this very moment, watching the Champions League final together somewhere in the city. Hart made a unilateral decision not to join them. “If I’m playing someone, I don’t want to watch the game with them,” he says. “Especially if we lose — I don’t want to see you celebrating in my face.” The locker room banter around football gets, as he puts it, “fun, but definitely competitive” — a line that applies pretty accurately to most things involving Josh Hart. He is watching alone. Hate-watching, specifically. Perfectly content. “I always look at myself as just a regular person,” he says. “I just happen to hoop.” It is, of all the things he says today, perhaps the most revealing — because it explains everything about how a professional athlete maintains the full @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 9

emotional infrastructure of a civilian sports fan, complete with ruined afternoons and Twitter-induced existential spirals about his club’s transfer strategy. He never separated himself from fandom. He just added a job on top of it. That job, in the current moment, happens to be extraordinary. At the time of our conversation, the Knicks just secured their first NBA Finals berth since 1999 — a quarter-century of frustration, false starts, and heartbreak finally giving way to a truly momentous win. Hart arrived from Portland in 2023, walked into this particular crucible and didn’t just survive it. He became its embodiment. The player who chases every loose ball, who finished the season averaging 37.6 minutes per game (the NBA’s leader, per the minutes award he took home this year), who logged 9.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists and set a franchise record with nine triple-doubles and made all of it look like sheer will dressed up in basketball clothes. On March 8, he pulled down 20 rebounds against the Clippers — a career high, filed apparently under routine. Born Joshua Aaron Hart on March 6, 1995, he came up at Villanova, where the résumé is almost absurdly decorated: Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore, national champion in 2016, and consensus First-Team All-American senior. He was selected 30th overall in the 2017 Draft — last pick of the first round, by Utah — before landing with the Lakers, then moving to New Orleans, then Portland, then finally New York. Each stop refined the same thing: a player built entirely around doing whatever the team needed, at whatever cost, however unglamorous. The Knicks looked at what that journey had produced and decided it was exactly what they were missing. They were right. “I got coached up on that toughness,” he says when I ask whether the hustle is nature or nurture. “My dad, coach Keith Stevens, my travel team coach — those guys really helped groom that competitiveness.” But the part that tends to get lost in the hustle narrative is that Hart genuinely enjoys it. “Once I’m on the court, I feel like I’m just a little kid,” he says. “I just go out there and play the game the way I know how, and have fun the way I know how. That’s all that really matters.” He has never, not once, lost sight of what the job actually is. “I’m blessed to be in a position where my profession is playing a game for a living, and I get compensated well, and I can put my family in good positions I didn’t think were possible,” he says. “I never try to lose that perspective.” And yet — even now, at the center of the most significant moment in New York basketball in a generation — Hart refuses to let himself feel it. “No,” he says flatly when I ask whether he’s been savoring the moment. “Just more locked in.” Before I can push back: “Once you allow yourself to relax even for a second, you get complacent. You don’t have that edge, that chip on your shoulder.” He says it without irony, without any apparent awareness that this is a man who plays 37-plus minutes a night and still finds time to hate-watch Arsenal. “After the season, no matter what happens, I’ll have time to sit there and be like — okay, that was a run. That was dope.” But not yet. Not while there’s still something to win. “A willingness to win,” he says, “also means a willingness to sacrifice.” On screen, Paris Saint-Germain wins on penalties. Back-to-back Champions League titles. Arsenal’s epic season ends in heartbreak. Josh Hart got exactly what he wanted. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 11

7/17/26 6:30 PM
A few days before we spoke, Josh Hart walked into the press conference after the Knicks eliminated Oklahoma City carrying a bottle of 2008 Le Pin. Not a magnum of something bubbly someone handed him in the tunnel. Not a sponsor product placed for the cameras. A bottle of Le Pin — one of Bordeaux’s great cult wines, a Pomerol produced in such small quantities that bottles go for thousands at auction, the kind of wine you drink when something genuinely worth drinking it for has happened — that Hart had personally arranged to have brought in, in advance, because he had decided that if they won, the moment deserved something real. They won. He sat down. He poured a glass. The internet briefly went insane. “Yeah,” he says with a laugh that suggests he still finds the reaction a little baffling. “I had a friend bring it. I was like, if we win, I gotta have something good.” To outsiders, it read as a flex. To Hart, it was completely normal — because wine has become far more than a hobby. It is a passion, an education, a ritual, a refuge. He was already deep into Bordeaux when we first spoke, already moving past entry-level reverence for famous labels into something more considered and genuinely knowledgeable. That was then. Now he’s planning a trip to Bordeaux this summer specifically to visit Mouton Rothschild, Château Pétrus, and a handful of others he’s been quietly working toward — and simultaneously falling hard for Italian producers most casual wine drinkers have never encountered. “Right now I’m loving a lot of Italians — Quintarelli, from Veneto, Amarone, stuff like that,” he says. “As you go along and learn about wine more, you start to have more appreciation. And you start to learn about some of these wines that are amazing that aren’t mainstream.” He’s planning the Veneto trip too, eventually. Shannon, his wife, is a willing travel companion up to a point — “after we go to a couple of wineries a day for three days, she’s like, all right, I’m done” — but he’ll get there. He always gets there. “The coolest thing about wine is there’s always more to learn,” he says. “You can never know too much. And you can consistently learn about it.” He says this the way someone says a thing they have genuinely thought about — not as a charming quote for a magazine profile, but as an actual belief that has organized the way he approaches an entire corner of his life. It tracks. Hart is constitutionally incapable of caring about something at half-measure. When something earns his attention, it gets all of it. And wine, it turns out, is bottomless in the way that suits him perfectly: the more you understand, the more interesting it becomes, and there is always, always more to understand. Going to wineries is part of it — not as a social occasion but as research, as education. “It’s peaceful,” he says. “It’s totally opposite from the court — it’s not chaotic. It’s calm, it’s quiet, and you get to see the beauty of it. And kind of just slow down and not be going a hundred miles an hour.” He’s become, whether he invited the title or not, the wine guy in the Knicks locker room. His teammates don’t pretend to know what he knows — “they don’t try to stunt like they know,” he says, with what sounds like genuine respect for their honesty — and instead ask questions. What’s Amarone? Where’s it from? How do they make it? How much does it cost? “I think they’re starting to grow more of an appreciation,” he says. He’s become, in other words, a one-man conversion program. There are worse things to be. The most revealing moment in our conversation arrives when he
describes cleaning his wine glasses. Not drinking from them. Cleaning them — his prized Josephine stemware, which gets steam and careful polish and unhurried inspection, not because anyone is watching but because the glasses deserve it. (The Josephines run about $90 a stem, a fact he discovered the hard way. “I can’t tell you how many glasses I broke,” he says. “I was just like, damn, I’m wasting all this money.”) His 23-year-old self would not have recognized the scene. “I couldn’t see my 23-year-old self doing that,” he says. “He probably would have looked at me like, yo, what the heck?” Now he finds it necessary. Therapeutic. He catalogs his cellar the same way — pulling bottles, checking what he has, deciding where to put things, moving slowly and deliberately through a space that demands exactly that. “It’s like my second form of peace,” he says. “You can’t be mad while you’re doing it because you’re going to break it.” It is an odd thing to say, and also a perfect thing to say — because Hart’s game has always been controlled chaos, and off the court he has quietly built a life organized around its opposite. The controlled chaos of basketball has taught him to crave quiet, deliberation, and things that cannot be rushed. He and Shannon have twin sons, Haze and Hendrix, who turned three in May. Fatherhood has done what fatherhood reliably does to people who take it seriously: reorganized the hierarchy, sharpened the priorities, and made the moments matter more. “You want to have as much time with them as you can, especially when they’re small,” he says. It has also reshaped his understanding of luxury in ways that a younger version of himself — the one who measured luxury by price tags and brand recognition — would find almost unrecognizable. “Growing up, especially getting money for the first time, you go after name brand things,” he says. “You see guys with outfits that are just trash, but they’re like, yo, I got a Balenciaga t-shirt, I got Amiri jeans, Dolce Gabbana — and they’re naming their brands. And it’s like, that’s not it.” He pauses. “Now, luxury is just what brings me joy and what I like. It’s not about names anymore.” He wears Rothy’s daily. UGG slippers around the house. Things that make him feel good rather than things that signal something to other people. “People aren’t going to look at that like, oh, that’s so cool,” he says. “But it’s comfortable. It makes me feel good. That’s more so what luxury is now.” Which is, in the end, what the Le Pin was really about. Not the price. Not the label. Not the social media moment that followed. Hart had thought about what winning meant, had decided it deserved a specific quality of attention, and had made arrangements accordingly — before the game was played, before the outcome was known, because that is how he operates. He goes all in on the things he loves: Chelsea, the Knicks, and a bottle hidden away for exactly the right moment. But he goes all in deliberately, with judgment, with the understanding that the things worth committing to require a certain quality of presence. As we speak, he is heading to the NBA Finals. It is the team’s first time since 1999. The city is holding its breath, and Hart is locked in, which means he won’t let himself feel it yet — won’t allow the satisfaction to arrive before it’s fully earned. But he sees the future, and he knows that somewhere, there is a very good bottle with his name on it, already arranged, already waiting. He’s been thinking about the moment since before the Oklahoma City series started. He knows what it will taste like. He knows where he’ll drink it. He knows who will be there. He’ll know when.

When Louis Vuitton launched the Horizon suitcase in 2016, in collaboration with Marc Newson, the most celebrated industrial designer of his generation, it proposed a new standard for what travel could look like in the 21st century. A decade later, that proposition takes its most ambitious form yet with the Horizon Aluminum: Louis Vuitton’s first aluminum suitcase, and its most technically extraordinary one yet. The material is not incidental. Aluminum echoes Louis Vuitton’s own history — at the end of the 19th century, the House crafted aluminum trunks for explorers — while the Monogram motif, embossed directly into the shell, functions as a structural element as much as a design signature. What separates the Horizon Aluminum from anything else on the market is what you cannot see. Traditional rivets have been replaced by an ultra-thin frame system with no folding or riveting — a first in luggage design — and external hinges have been replaced by concealed mechanisms as precise as a fine watch movement. The result is a surface of absolute purity, with clean lines uninterrupted by any mechanical component, exactly as Newson intended. Inside, a thermoformed lining creates a perfectly flat main compartment of unrivaled capacity. TSA-certified locks, an extra-wide telescopic handle, and enlarged shock-absorbing wheels complete an object built to bear the marks of its journeys — with dents and scratches embraced as cherished souvenirs.

Since 1998, Louis Vuitton has approached travel the way it approaches everything: with the conviction that the finest experiences are the ones most carefully considered. The City Guide series — now spanning 43 destinations in both print and digital formats — has always been less a conventional travel guide and more a literary act of discovery, written by journalists, authors, and cultural figures who know their cities the way only true insiders can. This spring, eight editions have received updated releases: Bangkok, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, Rome, and Tokyo. Each edition has been enriched with exclusive, previously unpublished content, including, for the first time, an illustrated section tracing each city’s history through 40 key dates, presented as a chronological narrative by French illustrator Laurent Cilluffo. A new “People Power” section also introduces ten notable locals per city, photographed by local artists and profiled across fields spanning hospitality, fashion, culture, and sport. As each location has been intimately curated, and the guest contributors this year were deliberately chosen. Chef Chalee Kader guides readers through Bangkok. Matthew Yokobosky, senior curator of Fashion and Material Culture at the Brooklyn Museum, takes on New York. Artist Eva Jospin shares her vision of Paris. DJ and electronic music producer Daniel Avery navigates London. And Dejha Carrington, co-founder of Commission, brings her art-world perspective to Miami. Each edition is also photographed by Parisbased photography collective Tendance Floue, whose local portraits introduce fresh visual signatures steeped in the respective city’s culture.

The Louis Vuitton City Guide has always understood that the most useful travel intelligence is also the most human. Its structure reflects that instinct at every turn — from “24 Hours in the City,” which traces 12 unbeatable experiences from breakfast at sunrise to staying out until dawn, to “Scenic Route,” a set of walking tours designed to slow the pace and reveal the city on foot. Categories spanning rooms, dining, nightlife, shopping, design galleries, museums, and independent bookshops ensure that whether you are a first-time visitor or a cultivated local, the guide offers something worth knowing. The digital experience extends the series well beyond the printed page. The Louis Vuitton City Guide app — available for iPhone and iPad across all 43 destinations — features regularly updated addresses, real-time geolocation mapping, customizable itineraries, and the option to send e-postcards directly from the app. On Apple TV, each city is presented through audiovisual essays, photographic portfolios, and video postcards never shown elsewhere. And on Louis Vuitton’s Tambour Horizon smartwatch, the app’s “Near Me” and “24H” features are available on the wrist, wherever the journey leads — ultimately allowing you to be a part of Louis Vuitton’s world at any moment. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 33

DREAM FACTORY JONATHAN ANDERSON BROUGHT DIOR’S CRUISE 2027 COLLECTION TO LOS ANGELES — AND IN DOING SO, REMINDED THE CITY EXACTLY WHY HOLLYWOOD AND COUTURE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME STORY. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
There are cities that exist as ideas before they exist as places, and Los Angeles has always been both at once — the landscape and the mythology, the boulevard and the dream it promised. On the evening of May 13, 2026, Jonathan Anderson understood this perfectly. He staged Dior’s Cruise 2027 collection — his inaugural Cruise showing for the house — at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, on Wilshire Boulevard, as the sun dropped behind the Hollywood Hills. What unfolded was not a fashion show so much as a conversation between a house and a city that have been speaking the same language for nearly eighty years.

“Christian Dior understood how important the idea of ‘the dream’ was for people after the war — as a form of escapism,” Anderson references in his show notes. “His Surrealist friends were obsessed with dreams and, of course, Hollywood is ‘The Dream Factory.’ It was all part of the same cross-cultural shift.” The setting was an illusion of LA, in LA. Artists, directors, and the city’s creative inner circle filed into LACMA as the show opened with a buttercup yellow dress trailing rosettes and John Lee Hooker playing overhead. Flowers became the collection’s recurring refrain — California poppies rendered in luminous orange, a red dress gathered at the waist by an abstract bloom, a deliberate revival of Christian Dior’s own mid-show wake-up device. Vintage American cars inspired new Saddle bag silhouettes in car-paint finishes with motor key charms. Philip Treacy’s featherwork headpieces rendered typography with impossible precision. Ed Ruscha collaborated on shirts that arrived mid-show with the deadpan grandeur the city deserves. Denim jeans embroidered with fine silver chains made the everyday feel like couture. The collection’s anchor was Stage Fright — the 1950 Hitchcock film for which Marlene Dietrich famously declared, “No Dior, no Dietrich.” By the final carousel, Kelly Watch the Stars overhead, Anderson had made the point: in 2026, the dream factory is still open. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 45

PRO TIP: One of my favorite things about Dior Prestige La Mousse Micellaire is how customizable it is. Add a few drops of water for a lighter, airy foam on minimal-makeup days, or use it straight from the tube in its more concentrated form for a richer cleanse when removing heavier makeup and SPF. It’s essentially two cleansing experiences in one.

HAUTE LIVING: Can you walk us through the new Prestige Cleansers? SARAH AKRAM: The new Dior Prestige cleansers are best thought of as a luxurious at-home cleansing ritual. Start with Le Baume Démaquillant to dissolve makeup, sunscreen, and daily buildup. Follow with La Mousse Micellaire to deeply cleanse and purify while maintaining skin comfort. For those who enjoy a more traditional cleansing experience, Le Savon leaves skin feeling exceptionally soft and conditioned. Finish with Sucre de Gommage once or twice a week to gently polish away dull surface cells and reveal a smoother, more radiant complexion. Together, the ritual delivers a thorough cleanse, gentle exfoliation, and skinconditioning benefits while respecting the integrity of the skin barrier. HL: Why was it so important to incorporate rose-infused elements? SA: Rose in the Dior Prestige line isn’t decorative — it’s functional. It’s used for its soothing and antioxidant properties, but also for supporting skin resilience during cleansing, which is when the barrier is most vulnerable. The rose infusion also elevates the sensorial experience, which matters more than people admit; luxury skincare works best when it signals calm to the skin and the nervous system simultaneously. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 51

There are designers who find inspiration in archives, and then there was Christian Dior, who found his in a garden. The Château de La Colle Noire, his private estate in the Grasse countryside, was planted with hectares of jasmine grandiflorum, centifolia rose, lavender, olive trees, and a vine that still produces rosé today. But it was the hundreds of almond trees — the first to blossom each winter — that captivated him most. He designed every detail of that property to revive the lost Eden of his childhood garden in Granville, and at La Colle Noire, he finally came closest to getting it right.
Kurkdjian, the perfume creation director for the Maison, built Dior Paradise as an olfactory allegory for that pursuit. Bitter almond — rarely foregrounded in perfumery — anchors the composition, brightened by top notes of mandarin, orange, and lime, and grounded by a roasted Tonka bean that carries the sweetness through to the dry-down. It is, as Kurkdjian describes it, a Proustian trigger, the scent equivalent of standing at a window in late winter, watching an orchard come back to life.

Time, In Bloom More than a decade after its debut, Louis Vuitton’s Color Blossom Fine Jewelry collection — available across rings, pendants, bracelets, and earrings in seven stone combinations — now tells the time. The Color Blossom watch arrives in a sunshaped 26mm Monogram Flower case in four distinct versions, from a muted steel and white mother-of-pearl dial to a vibrant amazonite and yellow gold, as well as a precious edition set with nearly one carat of diamonds. “There is an inherently precious essence, which perfectly reflects the Color Blossom collection,” says Matthieu Hegi, artistic director at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. The Monogram Flower, first created in 1896, has never looked more in bloom on the wrist.

TIME
MIAMI MEETS THE REVERSO Jaeger-LeCoultre brought five new Or Deco models and two landmark complications to the Miami Design District — and with a permanent boutique on the way, the Maison is just getting started. Ahead of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique opening in the Miami Design District this fall, the Maison hosted the Reverso Stories PopUp at Sweet Bird North in May, already making a massive impact on the Magic City. To mark the occasion, three new timepieces made their debut: the Reverso Tribute Monoface Or Deco Series, the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 Pegasus, and the Duomètre Heliotourbillon Perpetual in platinum. The stars of the show were undoubtedly the gem-set cocktail watches rooted in Art Deco glamour. The Reverso Tribute Monoface Or Deco Series consists of five new models that expand on the Or Deco universe introduced in 2025 and, in doing so, demonstrate the Reverso’s extraordinary versatility. Three of the five are the Or Deco Cocktail variants: gem-set watches in 18K pink gold set with 46 baguette-cut rubies, and in 18K white gold set with either 46 baguette-cut emeralds or 46 baguette-cut blue sapphires, each limited to 30 pieces. The stones are set using rail setting — an invisible setting
technique perfected in the 1930s — by the gem-setters of JaegerLeCoultre’s Métiers Rares atelier, creating an unbroken line of color and light along the gadroons above and below the dial. The emerald, given its inherent fragility, demanded the most specialized attention of all three. The fourth model is the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds Or Deco in 18K white gold, which is a cool, monochromatic counterpoint to the original pink gold version, limited to 200 pieces. The fifth, and perhaps the most wearable of all, is the Or Deco Solo Tempo in 18K pink gold, a smaller 40.1mm x 24.4mm case that strips the dial back to its essence, dispensing with the small seconds entirely and bringing the Reverso closer than ever to the proportions of the 1930 originals. All five models run on the hand-wound caliber 822 with a 42-hour power reserve, and each is paired with a Milanese mesh bracelet requiring more than 10 meters of 18K gold to construct — a detail that speaks directly to the level of craft involved.

THE ROYAL POP Audemars Piguet × Swatch unveil the most disruptive watch collaboration of 2026 so far. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE
PHOTOS COURTESY OF AUDEMARS PIGUET & SWATCH
THE INTERNET WAS BUZZING, AND AI WAS doing its best to
conceptualize what an Audemars Piguet × Swatch collaboration might look like. But if you think back just a few months ago, when the entire watch community was in Geneva in April, noone saw this one coming — and that’s entirely the point. Audemars Piguet and Swatch have joined forces on the Royal Pop, a collection of eight Bioceramic pocket watches that takes two of the most recognizable design languages in Swiss watchmaking and pushes them somewhere neither brand has gone before. It’s bold, it’s colorful, and technically, it’s more considered than it looks. The Royal Pop draws its DNA from two distinct sources. First, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak — the Gerald Genta-designed sports watch that rewrote the rules of fine watchmaking when it launched in 1972, with its octagonal bezel, eight hexagonal screws, and Petite Tapisserie dial pattern that remains one of the most instantly recognizable surfaces in the industry. Then there’s the Swatch POP watch of the 1980s: playful, democratic, and deliberately disruptive. The format itself is the first provocation. The Royal Pop is a pocket watch — not a wristwatch — with a 40mm Bioceramic case and a calfskin lanyard with contrasting stitching, inviting the
wearer to decide how they want to carry it. The number eight runs through every detail as the eight models are a direct nod to the eight sides of the Royal Oak case and its signature bezel screws. Eight additional patents were required for the case construction alone, to faithfully recreate the Royal Oak’s complex combination of rounded octagon, circle, and barrel shape in Bioceramic form. The material itself — two-thirds ceramic powder and one-third biosourced material derived from castor oil — gives the collection both strength and finish that earned it serious technical consideration. All eight models run on a new hand-wound version of Swatch’s SISTEM51, the only Swiss-made mechanical movement in the world with 100% automated assembly, now updated with 15 active patents and a power reserve of more than 90 hours. The anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring, co-developed with Audemars Piguet, already appears in several of the Maison’s own references. One of the eight new case patents covers the barrel drum, which doubles as a power-reserve indicator: gray chambers signal that the watch needs winding, gold means it’s fully wound and running at full power. And finally, the eight colorways span the full breadth of the Pop Art palette. @hautetime HAUTE LIVING 65

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider They do make ‘em like they used to … thankfully! THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE WHEN EXPERIENCING THE Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider (or, as Ferrari often denotes it, “Ferrari Dodici Cilindri,” which means “Ferrari 12 Cylinder” in Italian) is its overall shape. The car’s outline greatly resembles the legendary and world-dominating mid-century Ferrari road rockets, those of hood (“bonnet”) long and tail (“boot”) short, all the better to ensconce the lucky driver and passenger and their luggage while being motivated by a prodigious V-12 motor. Ah, that sweetly sonorous engine: to some tifosi (“rabid fans”), that’s truly the automotive ASMR creator. Ferrari points out that the concept behind this new machine “draws inspiration from open-topped Ferrari Gran Turismo models of the 1950s and ‘60s” — how beautifully they have brought that concept to life. You will note that Ferrari named it excluding the space between “12” and “Cilindri,” as they have done with other models on several occasions. Maybe, like the cars that they create, they’re always in a hurry. Regardless of the genesis of that nomenclature, this car is no poseur as it has all of the class, nimbleness, and oomph required to be a top-tier two-seater grand touring convertible. This is the part of the story where we typically would mention the supercharger or the twin-turbo and all of the power and torque that come from that setup. However, this is a naturally aspirated car, meaning that it breathes unfettered and unboosted air. That allows for a much more responsive accelerator pedal and a more appealing sound, unmuffled by any blockage of the intake or exhaust sounds. And when you buy a
Ferrari, the sound alone is worth the price of admission. So why not enjoy it, especially when this twelve-pot engine can redline at 9,500 RPM? It has the scream of the banshees, and I mean that in a good way. Some cars foreshadow their arrival with clever grilles, fancy headlights, and multistraked running lights. Ferraris arrive with great aplomb, being at once gorgeously elegant and menacingly snarling. The 12Cilindri does all that and more, especially at a time when all-electric seems to be the current moteur de jour. This is a car that joyously lights up any scene (and tire). Now, it’s time for the fun facts. With 820 horsepower and 500 ft-lbs of torque from its 6.5-liter V12, this machine hits 60 in under 3 seconds and sings all the way to 9,500 RPM. Those stats, when coupled with the looks and sound of this primo machine, typically bring the buyer home. The looks and performance of this machine are next-level. As much as Ferrari is highly (and deservedly) proud of its heritage, it’s also on the cutting edge of innovation and execution — thanks in no small part to its legendary racing heritage. For example, the torque of the prodigious engine is actually modified automatically, depending upon the transmission gear that the driver has chosen. This is a remarkable feat of software engineering, present for the very first time in a car with a naturally-aspirated engine, and it provides smooth and almost seamless acceleration as the driver rockets through the gears. As is their wont, Ferrari has also included the most sophisticated emissions-reduction system ever to comply with the always-more-stringent air quality standards.

Back to the original concept of the look of this wondrous machine, the stance is like a tiger getting ready to pounce, emphasized by the long nose / short tail and further enhanced by the stately 21” rims that, depending upon the buyer’s desire (and budget), can be shod with low-profile tires framing colored-to-order brake calipers (“mine” wore gold, thank you very much). And while we’re on the topic of the build sheet, take a gander at carbon fiber bits and pieces (engine covers, filter box cover, front spoiler, etc.), which added another five large to the total. Starting with a base price of $507,000 and change, my ride ended up with a total of $661,364 and I thought that each of those options provided the perfect complement to an awesome car. How did I love my multi-day loan? If you’ve read this far, can there be any doubt? Sliding into the driver’s seat of a new Ferrari is an experience not to be missed. A few tweaks of the Manettino (the Formula One-inspired switch on the steering wheel to adjust settings like throttle response, traction control, sound, and so forth) and then the shiny-red “Start” button brings the dragon out of its lair. The sound of a V12 Ferrari start up is second only to the sound of a V12 Ferrari at full honk (but if you keep that sound going for too long, you’ll hear sounds of law enforcement coming from behind you). Going through the hills around Malibu, accelerating through sweepers, calling forth the immaculate throttle-blip-enhanced downshifts, and the cornering as precise as a hot knife through butter — what’s not to like? Yet with all of the swagger and performance of a track car, the 12Cilindri knows how to behave and is perfectly docile when it needs to be, even in stop-and-go traffic. This is Los Angeles, after all, so no road test would be complete without that slog. And with a convertible hard top that can disappear and reappear in mere seconds, it truly is a car for all reasons and for all seasons. @hauteauto HAUTE LIVING 67

eorge Russell operates at a level where every fraction of a second counts. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One driver and current championship leader has built his career on a simple conviction: that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s the path to it. Off the track, that same clarity shapes everything from the way he travels to the fragrances he reaches for before a significant moment. In fact, his latest partnership with AMAFFI, the fine perfume house that operates—as Russell puts it—at the absolute highest level, feels less like a brand deal and more like a natural extension of how he moves through the world—with intention, with purpose, and with nothing left to chance.
HL: There are clear parallels between the precision of engineering in your sport and the craftsmanship of fine perfumery. Both disciplines rely on meticulous detail to create a performance that is both sensory and emotional. In this context, how do you define modern craftsmanship? GR: Craft and precision are at the core of everything in my life. I’m fortunate to work with people who are the absolute best in their fields and who take their craft incredibly seriously. AMAFFI is the total embodiment of craft; you see this in their products, which are one-of-a-kind and crafted with such deep care for detail and artistry. When you get the best results from years of perfecting a craft in any field, this result is ultimately very profound and impactful.
HAUTE LIVING: If you weren’t driving, what profession do you see yourself in? GEORGE RUSSELL: This is a no-brainer: I’d be a farmer. I just love spending time in nature, looking after and playing with animals, and tending to the land. My family used to work in agriculture too, so I’ve always been surrounded by that nature of work and could see myself having my own farm one day.
HL: To highlight the brand integration elegantly, what originally drew you to partner with AMAFFI? GR: The first AMAFFI fragrance I tried was Royal Love Story, and it certainly stayed with me. I’m a strong believer that a product should speak for itself, and it was clear they don’t do things by half measures. I later met Didier-Alexandre Ambroise, the Managing Director of AMAFFI, and the rest of the AMAFFI team, and it immediately felt like we had synergy across so many areas. It’s been quite an organic process from the start.
HL: What’s one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you? GR: I love to eat kiwis with the skin on—don’t knock it until you try it! HL: Looking back, if you could give ‘young George’ any advice, what would it be? GR: It would be “Don’t Be Afraid To Fail.” I think failure gets such a bad rep, and actually, it’s through failure that we learn, we grow, and we become stronger. So, I’d say keep pushing, keep going for it, and don’t be discouraged by any failures along the way. HL: Regarding your personal style off the track, what role does scent play in how you present yourself or prepare for significant moments? GR: First impressions are extremely important, and scent plays a vital part in that. Often, people remember what you wore when they met you, and that can help define your look and identity for them, so it’s definitely worth considering carefully. I love pairing scents with specific events too; for example, I save Glory by AMAFFI for very special occasions as I link the scent to celebrations. HL: Speaking of scents, do you find that certain fragrances are associated with specific moments? GR: For sure; I enjoy wearing the AMAFFI Tropical Rain when I’m off the clock, usually in the evenings when I’m spending time with my loved ones. It’s an impactful scent. Similarly, if I’ve got an important business meeting, I’ll accompany this moment with a specific fragrance. I do think there’s a scent for each moment in life; it’s the perfect accessory.
FINAL GEORGE RUSSELL_4PG FEATURE_NY+LA - AF EDIT.indd 29
HL: How does the house resonate with your personal values and pursuit of excellence? GR: They operate at the absolute highest level in fragrance, and they are unmatched in this regard. For AMAFFI, it’s the best or nothing. This is exactly the same mindset that I’ve always had across all aspects of my life, so I feel we are truly aligned in this regard, which is super important. HL: How would you describe AMAFFI in three words, and what does luxury mean to you personally? GR: Elegant, luxurious, and artistry. The whole brand is about delivering a sophisticated experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime, one that’s iconic and indelible. HL: What does “winning” mean to you beyond the podium? GR: It means growth, moving forward, stepping beyond. To me, winning not only symbolizes a milestone but means becoming stronger—becoming better every single day. HL: Finally, since this is our June issue, looking ahead to summer, what are some of your travel plans? Any favorite summer getaway spots? GR: I plan on doing lots of training during the summer, so I’ll be spending most of my time in the gym with my trainer, going on hikes or runs at home, and recharging with family. I also love spending time by the sea and in the ocean, so I’ll be doing some of that. Some places I love are Sardinia, and Lanzarote is beautiful, too.
