“Books make communities. Our publishing projects begin with artists and artists’ studios, and then pass into the talented hands of writers, editors, and designers.
From there, there are those who sell the finished book around the world, buy it, read it, talk about it, and use it as a springboard for new ideas. This collective engagement is unique to publishing—and art publishing in particular—and allows for a vital diversity of perspectives.”
—Michaela Unterdörfer, Executive Director Publications

FOREWORD BY TOM PARKER BOWLES
It’s one of my favourite cookbooks. It combines food and love every page is a recipe, but every page is also about a relationship with food and friends. —Ruth Rogers
Discover recipes beloved by artists, curators, and collectors in this singular cookbook.
Featuring over 200 recipes gathered from the personal culinary repertoires of contemporary artists, curators, chefs, and collectors, A Cookbook for Iwan is an opportunity to discover and recreate the breakfasts, lunches, dinners, drinks, and desserts that fuel the art world’s global community. With a foreword by food writer and critic Tom Parker Bowles, the book’s recipes are accompanied by handwritten notes, whimsical illustrations, and playful photographs that capture the idiosyncrasies of its contributors. Among them are artists including Anna Maria Maiolino, who explains how to make a classic spaghetti alla napoletana, and William Kentridge, who reveals how to make a cocktail often enjoyed in his studio. Annie Leibovitz, Lorna Simpson, and Christina Quarles pass on family recipes, while Martin Creed and Jenny Holzer take a characteristically conceptual approach, with original artworks finding their place among the book’s soups, stews, pastas, and pies. Originally created by Manuela Wirth as a gift for her husband Iwan, A Cookbook for Iwan reflects the appreciation of good, honest food that the couple—the founders of the art gallery Hauser & Wirth and the hospitality company Artfarm—share, transformed into a recipe book that is truly one of a kind.
ABOUT IWAN AND MANUELA
WIRTH
Iwan and Manuela Wirth are the founders of the international art gallery Hauser & Wirth. They share a love of fine art and good food, believing both to be foundational to the creation of community, conversation, and connection. In 2014, they brought these interests together with Artfarm, an independent hospitality company with art at its heart. Encompassing hotels, restaurants, and retail, Artfarm’s mission is cultivation: each project comes to life in response to the local culture and specific customs of its site, evolving organically to combine great art, delicious cooking, and enchanting lodgings.

TEXT BY JUSTIN PATON
This fascinating introduction to Louise Bourgeois’s influential practice reveals how her studio functioned as a site of creative transformation and emotional catharsis.
Counted among the most significant figures of contemporary art history, Louise Bourgeois produced a complex body of work that explored the full range of human experience. Working in several mediums (including sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, and performance), she created a visual world noted for its singularity and invention. In this latest installment of the In the Studio series, curator Justin Paton—who organized a major 2023 – 24 retrospective of the artist’s work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney—charts the trajectory of Bourgeois’s life and seventy-year career, using the places and processes of her artistic practice to illuminate the complex psychological mechanisms behind her unique vocabulary of forms, restless material experimentation, and recurring motifs. Alongside Paton’s comprehensive account of Bourgeois’s work, a selection of Bourgeois’s writings—including some published for the very first time—reveal the myriad ways her motivations and emotions played out in the studio. Accessibly written and richly illustrated, In the Studio: Louise Bourgeois will delight both those familiar with and curious about Bourgeois’s groundbreaking work.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010) is one of the most influential artists of the past century. Though her practice ranged from intimate drawings to large-scale installations, she is best known as a sculptor. She expressed her emotions through a visual vocabulary of formal and symbolic equivalents, oscillating between figuration and abstraction. Complex relationships with her parents led to pervasive feelings of guilt, jealousy, betrayal, and abandonment, which—together with love and reparation—form the core of her work. For Bourgeois, the creative process was a form of exorcism: a way of reconstructing memories and emotions in order to free herself from their grasp.

ESSAYS BY TOBIAS OSTRANDER AND JOHN TAIN. ANGEL OTERO IN CONVERSATION WITH JULIE RODRIGUES WIDHOLM
Discover Angel Otero’s remarkable artistic practice in this new publication examining recent developments in his groundbreaking work.
After gaining attention for his experimental abstract oil paintings in the early 2010s, the Puerto Rican artist Angel Otero began to pursue a bold new direction, merging his acclaimed form of abstraction with figurative elements to create multilayered, dreamlike scenes that synthesize the observed and the imagined into powerful meditations on memory and identity. This book explores recent developments in the artist’s work, culminating in his highly anticipated 2026 exhibition at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset. Alongside insightful essays by curators Tobias Ostrander and John Tain, a conversation between Otero and curator Julie Rodrigues Widholm explores the artist’s singular practice in his own words, while extensive studio photography documents his labor-intensive process of layering, peeling, and collaging oil paint.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Angel Otero (b. 1981) experiments with innovative techniques to create works about memory, identity, and his lived experience across painting, collage, and sculpture that straddle abstraction and figuration. He is best known for his Oil Skins series, in which oil paint is applied to glass then peeled off in layers that are reassembled into new images. His more recent works have continued to expand the possibilities of painting and materiality through dreamlike scenes. Otero’s work is held in collections including Moderna Museet, Stockholm; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

Roni Horn transforms comedian Maria Bamford’s phrase, “I am paralyzed with hope,” into a powerful examination of language and emotion in her latest artist’s book.
American artist Roni Horn’s practice is propelled by a multifaceted investigation into the nature of identity, mutability, and language. Encompassing drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, and artist’s books, her work frequently involves the written word. Seizure of Hope is the eighth installment in a series of artist’s books by Horn and the fourth to be published by Hauser & Wirth Publishers, following celebrated titles such as bird (2008), aka (2010), and Wit’s End (2021). This meticulously designed, limited-edition publication collects a series of drawings that were inspired by a line from a monologue by the American comedian Maria Bamford: “I am paralyzed with hope.” Horn felt that the statement, which she describes as “at once a silent and insidious undercurrent and an endless scream,” resonated with contemporary anxieties, and she began to write and rewrite it, drawing over the words with a wax crayon that caused their letters to bleed. Making use of numerous gatefolds to reproduce the artist’s expansive, multi-sheet drawings in precise detail, Seizure of Hope is a spectacular record of Horn’s arresting meditation on language, emotion, and the nature of hope.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Roni Horn (b. 1955) lives and works in New York and Maine. Horn received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design (1975) and an MFA from Yale University (1978). From 1978 on Horn has developed a multidisciplinary practice including photography, sculpture, drawing, installation, artist’s books, and writing. The conceptually driven work engages, among other things, the fluid essence of identity, the fundamental reality of paradox, and the experiential nature of place. Repetition, pairing, doubling, and nuance play important roles. Since 1975, Horn has traveled extensively throughout Iceland—these solitary travels in the landscape have been an important influence in the work. Similarly, literature, journalism, and writing in general play an essential role, sometimes employing the written word as medium.

ESSAY BY SOOK-KYUNG LEE
A comprehensive study of internationally renowned Chinese painter Zhang Enli’s artistic evolution over the last two decades.
Published on the occasion of an exhibition of the artist’s work at Hauser & Wirth West Hollywood, this elegantly designed publication explores the last two decades of Zhang Enli’s celebrated practice, culminating in his most recent paintings. Since emerging as an artist in the 1990s, Zhang has combined Eastern and Western influences to create enchanting paintings inspired by ordinary objects and elements of everyday life. Beginning in the 1990s with the artist’s striking portraits of human figures, Zhang Enli traces the development of the artist’s work through the evocative object studies of the 2000s and early 2010s to the captivating abstract portraits that continue to occupy him today, including new paintings produced for the Los Angeles exhibition. An illuminating essay by curator Sook-Kyung Lee guides readers through Zhang’s artistic evolution, illustrated by a generous selection of artwork reproductions that showcase the extraordinary lyricism of the artist’s work.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Zhang Enli was born in Jilin Province in 1965. He graduated from Wuxi Technical University’s Arts and Design Institute in 1989. Using the outside world as a mirror, Zhang documents the more prosaic aspects of contemporary life. He regularly works with everyday objects that he is instinctively drawn to, for example a piece of string, a hose, or even a marble ball from the floor of his studio. Zhang often magnifies his subjects until a specific fragment of a scene is depicted, as if enlarged through the viewfinder of a camera. Zhang currently lives and works in Shanghai.

Discover renowned avant-gardist Hans/Jean Arp’s works with and on paper in this expansive survey of the artist’s drawings and collages.
From his early years as part of Zurich Dada until the 1960s, Hans/Jean Arp produced an extraordinary and influential body of work. He is best known for two- and three-dimensional work deploying biomorphic forms that would come to epitomize organic abstraction. This new publication focuses on Arp’s works on paper, as well as his paper collages, providing a comprehensive picture of their role in the artist’s multifaceted output, including as a vehicle for play and as a way of inventing new worlds. Split across five thematically organized chapters, some two hundred illustrations and accompanying text offer a rich and representative selection of works that have mostly never been reproduced or exhibited publicly before. An intriguing new perspective on the artist’s unique vocabulary of shapes and gestures emerges, while an illuminating introduction by Arie Hartog and Loretta Würtenberger unpacks the formal language and artistic resonances of these works, both drawing out their connections to Arp’s iconic sculptural practice and considering his prolific work with and on paper as a fascinating world in itself.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hans/Jean Arp (1886–1966) is a key figure of so-called classical modernism and was an important contributor to the development of Dada and Surrealism in the early twentieth century. Turning his back on increasingly modernized turn-of-the-century society, Arp created biomorphic works whose organic, amoeboid forms highlighted his fascination with the physiological processes of procreation, growth, and death.

EDITED BY LUCA MASSIMO BARBERO. TEXTS BY LUCA MASSIMO BARBERO AND MARIA VILLA
This in-depth account of the iconic Argentine-Italian artist Lucio Fontana’s career provides Mandarin speakers with a thorough introduction to his revolutionary practice.
Lucio Fontana is the first widely available introduction to Lucio Fontana’s practice in Mandarin, offering Chinese audiences a long-overdue opportunity to discover the full scope of the artist’s groundbreaking work. Published on the occasion of an exhibition of Fontana’s work at Hauser & Wirth in Hong Kong, this new monograph marks the gallery’s third collaboration with Fondazione Lucio Fontana and curator Luca Massimo Barbero, following the exhibitions and accompanying publications Lucio Fontana: Walking the Space; Spatial Environments, 1948–1968 (2021) and Lucio Fontana: Sculpture (2022). Edited by Barbero, a leading expert in Fontana’s practice, the book provides a detailed account of the artist’s influential career, richly illustrated with artwork and archival images. Over four chapters, texts by Barbero and Maria Villa, the Vice President of the Foundation, track the evolution of Fontana’s work, beginning with his early days as an artist in Europe and Argentina in the 1920s and 1930s, moving through the birth of Spatialism in the 1940s and the development of his pioneering Ambienti Spaziali in the 1950s, and concluding with the innovative late works created in his final decade, including his iconic slashed canvases. Offering further insight into the artist’s theories, aims, and intentions are a selection of original texts written by Fontana between 1939 and 1968, which have been translated into Mandarin for the very first time.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
The pioneering artist Lucio Fontana (1899–1968) was born in Argentina to parents of Italian descent. After studying in Italy, he returned to Argentina in the 1920s where he pursued a career as a sculptor. In 1946, he published his Manifiesto Blanco , which called for the integration of art, science, and technology, and laid the foundations for the emergence of the Spatialist movement the following year. Best known for his Concetti Spaziali and Tagli series of slashed canvases, Fontana redefined postwar art by dismantling traditional boundaries between painting and sculpture, questioning the wholeness of the canvas to open up the new and infinite dimension of the void.
