On extended trips through Israel and the Occupied Territories, Haus am Gern attached padlocks that had previously been engraved with the words CUSTOM CREATES LAW to barriers, railings, security fences and grilles. A total of 74 padlocks were illegally attached to such structures (removable only by force), the keys stored away and the locations documented in dozens of photographs which were then combined into a single picture using a computer programme.
