This year’s Festival sits at the heart of a very special moment, as Harrogate International Festivals marks its 60th anniversary. For six decades, the Festivals has brought world-class artists and audiences together in Harrogate, and this summer season continues that tradition.
This summer, we become a home for festivals. Six distinct strands, each reflecting a decade of creativity, brought together in one season.
From the iconic performances of the Festival, to jazz, Indian classical music and late-night energy in the Spiegeltent the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, to ideas and conversation at Raworths Salon North; from the Family Festival to the spectacle of Architects of Air’s Luminarium on the Stray, the programme unfolds across the town in a series of moments that are both distinct and shared. Our origins in presenting outstanding musicians are reflected in a rich vein of music running throughout the Festival, from the phenomenal Aurora Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic to the next generation of talent. To celebrate this, a number of exciting new partnerships with the Royal College of Music, Tomorrow’s Warriors, SAA-UK and Classical Unlocked continue to shape and expand our programme.
Spiegeltent, while bestselling author Lisa Jewell has curated a weekend of standout events and exclusive conversations. This year also sees the introduction of the Swift Half Stage, expanding opportunities to encounter the very best in crime writing. What binds all of this together is something less tangible, but more powerful.
In a world of screens and streams, there is nothing quite like the shared spark of live performance, or the atmosphere of a packed room. These are moments that exist only in time and place, shaped by those who are there, and felt together.
Finally, it takes many partners to create a Festival, especially one that has been running for 60 years. My thanks go to the many supporters, sponsors, venues, volunteers and teams who make this possible each year.

The Stray transforms into a magical world of sensory bliss. Step inside Luminarium, a spectacular walk-through installation filled with light, colour, and calm. This monumental inflatable structure invites visitors to slow down and explore at their own pace. It’s back and it’s bigger than ever. The Spiegeltent returns to Crescent Gardens for 10 days of non-stop entertainment and we’ve packed it to the brim with unforgettable nights. Whether you are looking for a nostalgia filled Jimmy’s Night, an evening of the smoothest jazz with Guest Curator Camilla George, or sun-drenched morning yoga, everyone is invited to experience the Spiegeltent.
GUEST CURATOR
Camilla George, the Nigerian-born British saxophonist, composer and bandleader, brings her unmistakable sound to the Spiegeltent as this year’s Guest Curator. Renowned for weaving together African and Western musical traditions, she stands at the forefront of London’s vibrant jazz scene. For this special programme, she has handpicked a bold line-up of the brightest rising stars in jazz - artists shaping the sound of tomorrow, and not to be missed.

When we launched what was our Future 50 Appeal in 2015, our goal was ambitious: raise £1million to support access, innovation and long-term sustainability to ensure we could thrive for decades to come.

GLOBAL VILLAGES
Global Villages, part of the Wild Foundations, brings the world to our doorstep. From African and Indonesian drumming to Indian music and dance, young people explore different cultures in a fun, hands-on way. It’s all about building confidence, creativity and connection while breaking down barriers and opening up new cultural experiences.
We build brighter, healthier and happier lives, firing imaginations and promoting engagement with the arts across the region and beyond.
BRASS BRIGADE
Free brass band lessons across schools in North and West Yorkshire working with year 5 classes. Each class receives a half-term of workshops, free access to instruments to take home and a final performance. The Brass Brigade programme has been recognised by Brass Bands England winning Band Project of the Year in 2025.
KIDS, SPIES AND PRIVATE EYES
Kids, Spies and PIs is part of our Wild Foundations workshops across Harrogate and Knaresborough. Working with a real-life CSI and author, these immersive ‘crime scenes’ allow young people to explore storytelling, communication and investigative techniques to tell their own stories, developing their writing and science skills.

Lumas Winds are committed ambassadors for wind chamber music and the rich variety of repertoire it offers. As winners of the 71st Royal Over-Seas League Mixed Ensemble Prize, and regularly featuring at festivals and music clubs up and down the UK, they have firmly established themselves as a group to watch. In our 60th anniversary year, we are delighted to partner with the Royal College of Music, showcasing exceptional artists in our Young Musicians Series. Clarinettist Emily Crook, a Leverhulme Arts Scholar, is currently studying for her Masters at the RCM and has trialled with Manchester Camerata and Welsh National Opera.
Pianist Mariamna Sherling, also completing her Masters at the RCM, is an award-winning performer and future Benjamin Britten Piano Fellow. She has gained international recognition and will perform at the Southbank Centre under the baton of Kahchun Wong, Chief Conductor of the Hallé Orchestra during the summer season.

One of the world’s most celebrated broadcast ensembles, the BBC Philharmonic brings its distinctive energy and iconic musical character to Harrogate’s Royal Hall this summer, joined by rising star violinist Hana Chang and conductor Ben Glassberg.
From its home at MediaCityUK, the Philharmonic presents major concerts at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, appears regularly at the BBC Proms, and tours across the UK and beyond, and has moved and inspired audiences for over 100 years.
Hearing and seeing the BBC Philharmonic in the flesh is really something incredible; the sheer scale of the orchestra, the breadth of the sound, and the brilliance of seeing musicians at the top of their game in such an impressive ensemble.
This concert will be recorded for BBC Radio 3.

Classical Unlocked spotlights artists who bring a new energy to classical music, and there’s no better place to experience it than the Spiegeltent.
Vulva Voce is a band which rewrites the ‘string quartet’ as we know it. Taking influence from folk, jazz, classical, techno and funk, they write original music and perform it alongside music from the 1500s right up to the present day. They reference the music of the first ever published woman composer, Maddalena Casulana and take inspiration from the warrior queen of the Iceni Tribe, Boudicca.

Harrogate International Festivals is the flagship Arts Festival for the North of England.
