What the Enemy Doesn’t Want You to Know
By Harrison Osezua Omosun
Introduction: The Clue is in Your Struggle
Have you ever wondered why certain temptations seem to follow you like a shadow? Why do the same struggles whether it’s fear, lust, arrogance, procrastination, or shame keep knocking at your door?
They’re not random. They’re personal.
Your battles are clues, pointing to the very purpose God placed inside you The enemy, Satan, fights hardest where your calling shines brightest. As a wise man once said, “if God has you marked for great things, all the demons in the area and even in the family will come to check you out.”
Before You Go Any Further…
This isn't just another book It's a mirror, a flashlight, and a gentle yet bold call to examine your own heart. It's an invitation to reflect deeply and to see your struggles not as failures, but as signposts guiding you toward your divine destiny.
The Bible both cautions and promises in Proverbs 28:13 that, “Whoever covers their sins will not prosper, but anyone who confesses and forsakes them, will find mercy.” So, let's stop making excuses for our shortcomings. Let's own up to our struggles so we can bring them to God, find help to prevail over them, and truly prosper in Him.
God already knows your weaknesses, and He’s ready to work with you to transform them into strengths So don't be afraid, and don't hide yourself from Him. Always remember that God doesn't need you to be perfect; He only needs you to listen.
So come as you are honest, broken, hopeful. Reflect, surrender, and discover the calling hidden in your fight.
The Battles and Their Callings
Your struggles are not just obstacles; they’re the enemy’s attempts to distract or even derail your God-given purpose. He wants you to accept these challenges as a permanent part of your life, to become one with them This should NEVER be the case You are meant to rule over every situation by God's grace, not be ruled by it.
Sometimes you hear people say things like, “Oh, I'm just managing the situation,” or, “I’m used to it.” But God has far better plans for you.
Honestly, living this out isn't always easy, but as we continue to acknowledge God's promises and His unfailing help, He will consistently direct our thoughts and actions. Remember, with God, all things are possible.
The enemy, on the other hand, is content when we are ignorant of our true identity in Christ Jesus. He rejoices when born-again Christians don’t grasp the incredible lengths God has gone to prove His love Why? Because an unaware Christian is one who is more likely to compromise, give up, and remain stuck. Our ignorance is his gain. I pray that the devil will never gain against our lives in Jesus’ name.
Ultimately, the Word of God and the help of the Holy Spirit are the only way to break free from recurring struggles and step into the freedom of God's promises.
Below, we've grouped common battles into seven categories, each revealing a possible divine calling. Remember, this isn't a comprehensive list of every challenge you might face; the principle of finding purpose in adversity applies to all your unique experiences.
For each category, you'll find:

Practical steps to reclaim your purpose
1. Battles Over Identity and Confidence
Story: Sarah, a young teacher, always felt like an outsider at her school. She compared herself to colleagues with more charisma and doubted her ability to lead her classroom. One day, a student told her, “You make me feel seen because you listen, you're the best ma.” That moment revealed her calling to lead with compassion, not competition. By embracing her unique, quiet strength, Sarah transformed her classroom into a place of excitement and belonging. Struggles: Comparison, insecurity, imposter syndrome, fear of rejection, feeling like an outsider, obsession with appearance. What It Means: The enemy attacks your sense of self because it may be a clear sign that you're called to lead with a unique, God-given identity Many people—
men and women alike struggle with feeling like they're not “good enough or leadership material” simply because they don’t fit the world’s mold. Maybe they don’t dress, speak, or carry themselves in ways that others instantly admire or approve of. But what they often miss is that they are called to establish a new standard of compassionate leadership one that reflects heaven’s values, not the world’s expectations
You were never meant to chase approval. You were designed to reflect God’s glory. The enemy wants you to feel unworthy so you'll retreat from your assignment God’s Truth: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).
Take Action: Write down a lie you believe about yourself (e g , “I’m not enough”) Next to it, replace it with God’s truth (e.g., “I am handcrafted for a purpose, and God Almighty is my Father”). Speak these truths aloud daily.
2. Battles Over Action and Perseverance
Story: Emeka, a graphic designer, kept delaying his dream project a children’s book—because he feared it wouldn’t be good enough Procrastination became his norm until he prayed for courage and started sketching one page. That single page led to a finished manuscript, now inspiring kids. Emeka realized God was calling him to create, not to wait for perfection.
Struggles: Procrastination, laziness, constant delays, low energy, wanting to give up, fear of death or risk-taking
What It Means: The enemy delays your progress because you’re likely called to build something with eternal significance. Think of the student who struggles to finish a project, not realizing that their work holds the key to a major breakthrough. The devil’s goal is simple: to distract and discourage you, hoping you’ll quit halfway and never complete the good work God began in you God’s Truth: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
Take Action: Identify one task you’ve been avoiding Commit to taking a single, small step toward it today write one sentence, make that one phone call. Pray for the strength to follow through, and declare that the pattern of starting and stopping is broken in Jesus’ name.
3. Battles Over Relationships and Connection
Story: Toyin, a young woman, held deep bitterness toward an old roommate from school after discovering she had an a air with her ex-boyfriend. This betrayal terribly broke Toyin's heart and tore their friendship apart That painful experience fueled her trust issues for years. One Sunday, convicted by a sermon on forgiveness, Toyin sent a simple text: "How are you doing?" Her former friend's response came quickly: "I am so sorry, my dear friend Words will never be enough I have no excuses. All these years I have asked God to both forgive me and give me
another opportunity with you. Please forgive me, and I will never betray you again." That small gesture from Toyin opened the door to healing, ultimately revealing her gift for restoring broken bonds
Struggles: Lust, infidelity, bitterness, trust issues, being easily o ended or even misled.
What It Means: The enemy twists your desire for connection because he may have perceived that you are called to anchor relationships in covenant, healing, and peace He uses lust or betrayal to isolate you, knowing your capacity for love and reconciliation can transform lives, even communities. Your relational struggles may be sure signs that you are meant to be a bridge-builder.
God’s Truth: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
Take Action: Reach out to someone from whom you’ve been distant. Start with a simple, kind gesture a text, a prayer, or a sincere apology, expecting nothing in return.
4. Battles Over Spiritual Authority
Story: David struggled with nightmares that left him anxious and spiritually drained. He even dabbled in astrology, seeking answers, but only felt more confused. After praying in a quiet moment, he sensed God urging him to intercede for his family. It seemed strange, but he obeyed. As he prayed, more insight and direction came, leading him to pray for even more people A few days later, he realized the nightmares had faded. He discovered that when he stands in the gap for others, God somehow shows up for him too.
Struggles: Uncontrolled anger, nightmares, dabbling in spiritual counterfeits (e.g., witchcraft, astrology), mental chaos, a high sensitivity to injustice. What It Means: The enemy targets your spiritual sensitivity because this may be a strong indication that you’re called to wield prophetic or intercessory power. He distracts you with confusion and torment to mute your voice and dull your discernment Your internal turmoil is often a reflection of the spiritual authority you carry to bring order and truth.
God’s Truth: “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19).
Take Action: When you feel overwhelmed or upset, find a quiet moment to pray, in tongues when possible. Ask God to reveal the truth behind any situation. Write down what He shows you and begin declaring it over your life and the lives of others.
5. Battles Over Resources and Influence
Story: Lisa, a small business owner, chased recognition through lavish spending, hoping it would prove her success Pride crept in until a mentor challenged her to give anonymously to a struggling employee. That act of humility shifted her focus,
revealing her true calling to steward her resources for God’s glory, not just her own.
Struggles: Overspending, greed, manipulation, pride, narcissism, an insatiable need for attention or control.
What It Means: The enemy tempts you with worldly power or status because he knows that you may have been called to steward resources and influence for God’s Kingdom. He pushes you toward pride or recklessness to prevent you from becoming the generous, humble person or leader God designed you to be God’s Truth: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (James 4:10).
Take Action: Identify one way you can give—whether time, money, or encouragement to someone this week without seeking recognition. Remember, God's timely blessings always outweigh human accolades. You are called to be a river that flows, not a reservoir that hoards.
6. Battles Over Healing and Restoration
Story: Uncle James carried shame from a past addiction, believing he was unworthy of helping others. At a church outreach, he shared his story with a teenager facing similar struggles. The teen’s gratitude showed Uncle James that his pain was a bridge to help others heal, confirming his redemptive purpose. Struggles: Shame, regret, self-sabotage, compassion fatigue, or a hardened heart that no longer cares
What It Means: The enemy chains you to guilt or exhaustion because he knows that your story carries redemptive power. He wants you silent and drained so you cannot help break cycles of manipulation and pain for others. The paradoxical truth is that your deepest wounds can become your greatest ministry. God’s Truth: “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives” (Isaiah 61:1).
Take Action: Write a one-sentence testimony of how God has redeemed a past struggle in your life When the time is right, share it with someone who needs to hear it. Your testimony is a weapon for freedom.
7. Battles Over Creativity and Expression
Story: Isiah, a painter, stopped creating after criticism made him feel misunderstood. He turned to unhealthy habits to cope. One day, he painted a small canvas as a cry for help to God. An old client saw it and was moved to tears, reminding Isiah that his art was meant to reflect God’s beauty and inspire others. Struggles: Creative blocks, silencing habits (e g , smoking, drunkenness), body image issues, feeling constantly misunderstood. What It Means: The enemy stifles your voice and creativity because they are meant to reflect God’s glory and awaken others He attacks your expression to keep you feeling isolated, preventing people from being inspired or healed
through your unique gifts. He wants to hide your light, but God intends for it to shine.
God’s Truth: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story those he redeemed from the hand of the foe” (Psalm 107:2).
Take Action: Create something small today a note, a drawing, a melody, a prayer. O er it to God as a simple act of worship, reclaiming your creative voice
Reflection: Seeing Your Struggles as Signposts
Take a moment to pause and reflect:
Which of these battles feels most like yours right now? How might this struggle point to a God-given purpose? What’s one step you can take today to align with God’s truth instead of the enemy’s lie?
God isn’t surprised by your struggles; He’s ready to use them to reveal your calling. That situation is not the end of your story far from it. As Jeremiah 29:11 declares: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Trust Him to turn your battles into victories.
Prayer for Discernment and Victory
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for seeing me fully my struggles, my dreams, and my purpose. I confess where I’ve let fear, shame, or distraction hold me back. Open my eyes to see my battles as clues to the calling You’ve placed in me Give me courage to reclaim what the enemy has targeted, wisdom to walk in Your truth, and strength to persevere. Transform my weaknesses into testimonies of Your grace. I surrender to Your plan, trusting You to lead me into victory
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Epilogue: Walking in Your Purpose
The enemy’s attacks are not random they’re smart and strategic. He targets your voice because it’s meant to speak and sing God’s praise He attacks your confidence because you’re called to lead. He stirs shame because your story is destined to set others free.
Now that you know his tactics, it’s time to act.
Reframe the Fight: When a struggle resurfaces, catch it. Name it as an attack on your calling. If you feel insecure, declare, “I am called to lead, and I am strong in Jesus’ name.” If you’re tempted to quit, declare, “I am built to persevere. I will prevail ”
Speak God’s Truth: Your thoughts shape your reality. Counter the enemy’s lies with Scripture. Knowing God's Word for yourself is key to living in freedom.
Find Your Community: Share your journey with trusted friends, family or mentors
Isolation is the enemy’s trap; connection is God’s strategy.
Embrace the Journey: Victory is a daily walk, not a one-time event God’s grace is su cient for every stumble. You will rise above it all, and you will shine, in Jesus name, amen!
