The Salvation Army’s new Center of Hope Shelter Dedication will be June 25 at 10am! With the ability to house 75 residents, including 7 family suites, our sole focus is to provide the very best care & service for our residents. th

Our focus will be centered on providing sustainable employment opportunities, long-term housing, & autonomy.

Veteran’s Memorial Reef

VMR created a 162-acre underwater memorial off SENC’s coast honoring U.S. service members by placing their cremated remains in concrete markers that form a living reef. Although not affiliated with the VA, VMR provides support to surviving spouses, children, and family members in navigating benefits they may be eligible to receive.

Founded by U.S. Army veteran Thomas Marcinowski, VMR offers a lasting, meaningful tribute that merges remembrance with environmental impact.

We’re excited to partner with VMR as they serve veterans, their families, and the environment.

Nate Moseley is HC’s new Campus & Parking Attendant. Like Welcome Center Receptionist

Preston, Nate is joining us through United Way’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

HC has a 14-year history of partnering with this federally funded program that supports our local seniors and nonprofit staffing.

Housing Navigation Program

Now accepting HC Partner Referrals

HC's Housing Navigation Program has launched for clients in NHC! We welcome referrals from HC Partners for individuals/families who are currently housed (renters or homeowners), not enrolled in HOP, and living in NHC but current housing is potentially unsustainable

We offer a comprehensive approach to housing stability through material and financial support, personalized case management, and connections to community resources. Whether helping clients stay in their housing or find a new place to live, we’re here to support their journey

Powering Preparedness:

New Generator Installed at HC

Just in time for the start of the 2025 hurricane season, we have installed an industrial generator to serve faith and nonprofit communities in the event of a disaster.

The generator's 150kW will power the Vicki Dull Annex and Plaza on Princess allowing our campus to serve as an emergency operations center for faithbased and nonprofit organizations active in response and recovery.

This has been a HC dream since 2018 when we served as a clearinghouse & connector for the many faith communities and nonprofits that worked together to support our region in the wake of Hurricane Florence. To get involved, join New Hanover Disaster Coalition.

The Harrelson Center & Help Hub are grateful toThe Ministering Circle for believing in & supporting our mission for over a decade!

The Ministering Circle is a women’s volunteer organization that has been actively promoting the welfare of our community since 1888. MC awards grants annually, totally over $100k to nonprofits providing humanitarian & wellness services in the CF region.

The Red Apron Sale is their annual signature fundraiser that makes it possible for MC to achieve their mission of improved health & wellness in our region. Plan to get your holiday goodies!

In partnership with Angel Oak Creative & moss+ross, HC is launching Minding Our Business - a campaign to rethink how we fund & value nonprofits. Inspired by Dan Pallotta’s TED Talk & the documentary UnCharitable, the campaign challenges the outdated idea that low overhead equals high efficiency.

Building a Trauma-Informed Community

As part of HC’s mission to advance, connect, and empower an integrated humanitarian nonprofit community, we’re committed to being a trauma-informed campus.

This September Keri Hill will be on site offering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and QPR (suicide prevention) training to support that goal.

MHFA is limited to 30 participants— registration is first come, first served. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding and improve how we care for those we encounter.
