Family Promise of the Lower Cape Fear

Family Promise supports families experiencing housing instability, including domestic violence survivors, to achieve sustainable independence.

Family Promise is hard at work with ongoing renovations— and two families are set to move in within the next 30 days!

As part of these efforts, they’re raising funds for a new HVAC system to ensure safe, comfortable housing. Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Through their prevention program, they’ve provided critical financial assistance to help families stay housed.

Housing Navigation Program

Now accepting HC Partner Referrals

HC's Housing Navigation Program has launched for clients in NHC! We welcome referrals from HC Partners for individuals/families who are currently housed (renters or homeowners), not enrolled in HOP, and living in NHC but current housing is potentially unsustainable

We offer a comprehensive approach to housing stability through material and financial support, personalized case management, and connections to community resources. Whether helping clients stay in their housing or find a new place to live, we’re here to support their journey

A Strategic Vision: What’s Ahead for HC & Partners

Beginning July 1st, The Harrelson Center will launch its new strategic plan a roadmap built to deepen impact, empower partners, and strengthen community connections. Over the next several years, this plan will guide efforts to: Enhance leadership, operations, and financial sustainability

Support and connect nonprofit partners through training, shared services, and collaboration

Expand the Help Hub to better meet housing, health, and client navigation needs

Improve communications and community outreach

The Ministering Circle is a women’s volunteer organization that has been actively promoting the welfare of our community since 1888. MC awards grants annually, totaling over $100k to nonprofits providing humanitarian & wellness services in the CF region.

In partnership with Angel Oak Creative & moss+ross, HC is launching Minding Our Business - a campaign to rethink how we fund & value nonprofits. Inspired by Dan Pallotta’s TED Talk & the documentary UnCharitable, the campaign challenges the outdated idea that low overhead equals high efficiency.

Building a Trauma-Informed Community

As part of HC’s mission to advance, connect, and empower an integrated humanitarian nonprofit community, we’re committed to being a trauma-informed campus.

This September Keri Hill will be on site offering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and QPR (suicide prevention) training to support that goal.

MHFA is limited to 30 participants registration is first come, first served. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding and improve how we care for those we encounter.

Keri is the Volunteer Coordinator & Chaplain for Veterans Services of the Carolinas, a ministry of the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries Keri is a member of ABCCM's Shepherding Team, where her primary role is to engage with churches across NC and to teach Mental Health First Aid & suicide prevention. Keri is finishing her M.Div. at Campbellsville University, with a concentration in pastoral care & chaplaincy.

Last month we had the pleasure of working Compass Pointe NC! This is the 2nd year that they have run such a successful bike drive/fundraiser for A Bike for Every Child! Last week we had our first day of programming on site, with breakfast and lunch, a celebratory cake, participated in a plant class, had a recovery meeting, and broke in the new space with love and laughter.

It was special to see everything come together & our members get to feel at home the second they walked in.
