note from the director The Hardee Center for Leadership and Ethics in Higher Education is committed to continuing the tremendous legacy of Dr. Melvene Draheim Hardee. The Hardee Center's purpose is two-fold. The Center supports the Higher Education program at Florida State University and the students, faculty, staff, and friends of the program. The Center also coordinates all alumni engagement and advancement initiatives, while promoting the "LifeNet." As we move through the 2019-2020 academic year, the Hardee Center has continued our support of our students, faculty, staff, and LifeNet in a number of ways including our celebrating our Hardee Fellowships, launching our LifeNet Connection Program, as well as extending our LifeNet conference gatherings to include NASPA, ACPA, and ASHE. The Hardee Center appreciates the constant support we recieve fromt he LifeNet. The Center and the LifeNet would not exist without YOU! As we move forward, we would love for you to be involved! our current students with students looking for support and encouragement. Within this program, we recognize the tendency of mentorship programs to focus solely on our lives within higher education, but our students and LifeNet members are so much more than that! As such, we hope to connect folks over interests both inside and outside the academy for a genuine and long lasting relationship.

Laurence will give the keynote address at the 2019 Slovenian World Congress in Ljubljana on the topic of Global Economics, Innovation and Collaboration. His article on Jules Verne, Innovation and Collaboration will be published in the fall issue of ERENet (Entrepreneurial Research and Education Network for Central and Eastern European Universities).
DR. MICHAEL SCHULTZ LIFENET CLASS OF 1984 VICE PRESIDENT HIGHER EDUCATION, PROJECT MANAGEMENT ADVISORS
Dr. Schultz retired from the Director of Housing position at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville after 30 years of service In July 2019, and began a second career as Vice President Higher Education at Project Management Advisors. Dr. Schultz and his family is excitedly expecting the birth of their first grandchild in December 2019
DR. TERRENCE LEAS LIFENET CLASS OF 1989 PRESIDENT BIG BEND COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Dr. Leas has announced his retirement as President of Big Bend Community College effective June 30, 2020.

LIFENET CLASS OF 1993 & 2010 ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR, STUDENT LIFE THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, KNOXVILLE The UT Executive Leadership Institute graduated its inaugural class in August 2019. Dr. Cuevas was one of 17 faculty and staff members representing each University of Tennessee campus and institute across the state. The 12month training program is designed to prepare internal candidates for senior leadership roles within the University. Candidates were nominated by their supervisors and competitively selected by campus and institute leaders. The class met six times throughout the year at various locations in the state for multi-day leadership sessions.
DR. LAUREY STRYKER LIFENET CLASS OF 1993 PRINCIPAL, STRYKER CONSULTING
Dr. Stryker is proud to announce the crossing of the 10 year milestone for Stryker Consulting. Stryker Consulting works with foundations on innovative education initiatives. Projects include: $9 M STEM investment, $5 M experiential learning, development of a 5 member higher education alliance, scholarship revamp of $1 M annual foundation program and creation of foundation Fellows program. Prior to consulting, Dr. Stryker enjoyed 30 years in education most notably as President of USF Sarasota Campus and Assistant Commissioner of Florida’s Department of Education.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2005 DIRECTOR, HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAM GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY P. Daniel Chen joined George Mason University in Fall 2019 as an Associate Professor and Director of the Higher Education Program. Previously, he was an Associate Professor and the Higher Education Program Coordinator at the University of North Texas.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2007 PROFESSOR OF BUSINESS & ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP VALENCIA COLLEGE Dr. Kalakay has been promoted to Professor of Business and Organizational Leadership in the Bachelors of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Leadership.
MS. STEPHANIE KNIGHT LIFENET CLASS OFÂ 2008 DIRECTOR, LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS PURDUE UNIVERSITY
In December 2018, Stephane started her new role as Director of Leadership Programs at Purdue University. In the role, Stephanie oversees Purdue's academic leadership initiatives, civic engagement programs, and serves as a part of the campus student resiliency efforts.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2009 ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, ACADEMIC SERVICES UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, BALTIMORE COUNTY Abbie was appointed to a 4 year term on the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee beginning in September of 2019 running through August of 2023

LIFENET CLASS OF 2009 DIRECTOR, PARENT & FAMILY PROGRAMS MIAMI UNIVERSITY Dr. Pontious completed his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Student Affairs in Higher Education. Dissertation title is "Race through class: Antiracist white identity formation of lower-classed students at a historically white institution with a wealthy student population."

LIFENET CLASS OF 2010 DIRECTOR, INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY Mark Green recently accepted the role of Director of Institutional Research at Holy Family Unversity. He also presented at the Drexel Assessment Conference in September on Effectively Visualizing your Data. This past June he led a workshop for the Mandela Fellows through the Goodwin College (Drexel University) on Visualizing Data for Leaders.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2013 DIRECTOR, STUDENT RECORDS TALLAHASSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE In July 2019, Troy was promoted to his new position, Director of Student Records at Tallahassee Community College.

DR. JESSICA OWENS
LIFENET CLASS OF 2013 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTER CLEMSON UNIVERSITY Dr. Owens earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at Clemson University in May 2019. Dr. Owen's dissertation explored how doctoral students perceived the influence of social media engagement, through Twitter, on their socialization and sense of belonging within academia. Dr. Owen's doctoral committee included Dr. Pamela Havice (chair), Dr. Tony Cawthon, Dr. Robin Phelps-Ward, and Dr. Joseph Mazer.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2014 ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, NEW STUDENT & FAMILY PROGRAMS THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, KNOXVILLE Eddie co-authored a chapter titled Leveraging Extended Orientation Programming to Enhance the Student Transition Experience in the book, Building Successful Foundations: Best Practices in Orientation, Transition, and Retention , which was published by NODA: the Association for Orientation, Transition, & Retention in Higher Education.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2015 ACADEMIC ADVISOR II UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA, SARASOTA-MANATEE Elaine Giles got engaged to her fiancée, Jeffrey, in May 2019. They will be married in May 2020. Elaine also accepted a new position as an Academic Advisor II at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee.

LIFENET CLASS OF 2015 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LIFE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA Ben is in his second year in serving as the Director of NASPA's International Symposium pre-conference event. Additionally, Ben will be presenting his research, a pilot study looking at experiential learning at the University of Georgia, during the ASHE Conference in November 2019.
JACQUELINE CHIARI
LIFENET CLASS OF 2018 RESIDENT SUCCESS SPECIALIST, UNIVERSITY HOUSING COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY Jacqueline has moved to Myrtle Beach and is happily living with partner and fellow LifeNetter, Daniel McBurney, with our dog, Kona. Jacqueline has started a new job at Coastal Carolina University as well as her own business as a personal organizer.

Kaitlyn and Michaela proudly presented at the 10th annual LeakyCon, a Harry Potter themed conference. Their presentation was entitled "Harry Potter in the Age of Activism: Why S.P.E.W. Failed and Dumbledore's Army Succeeded" and was attended by 60+ attendees ranging from middle school students to tenured professors. They plan to join several of these professors on a panel during next year's conference, as well as submit several more presentation proposals focused on student development, leadership, activism, and identity development.
