Taumarunui Taumarunui is best known for its railway history, farming, weaving, golf and more recently, cycle trails. The town is complete with one or two colourful characters, a museum and a unique rail cart adventure. The Timber Trail from Piropiro flats to Ongarue is a fantastic mountain bike ride or walk, following much of the Ongarue bush tram system. Ongarue represents an important part of the timber industry and early pioneering history. Taumarunui was originally a Maori settlement at the confluence of the Ongarue River with the Whanganui, with important canoe routes linking the interior of the island with the lower Whanganui River settlements. Some places, notably the valley of the Pungapunga Stream, which joins the upper Whanganui River near Manunui, were celebrated for the size and quality of totara trees, and large canoes were carved there. The area is a border between a number of iwi including Whanganui, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Tūwharetoa, who lived together in relative harmony.

In a few sentences, describe your background in the commercial world. When I first came to New Zealand my entire asset was only $5000 and a car as old as my age. After 5 years of time, with the sense of economy’s speed and direction, the knowledge I have learned, plus my patience, discipline, responsible and hardworking personality, I set up my own restaurant in town, purchased a decent new car, and bought my own water front house. Any notable achievements? I am a brand-new agent in the real estate industry. However, I got my first sale of a luxury house in my first month of career, straight after that I listed and sold a Lakefront freehold motel in a short period of time above expectations price. This property was listed with another agency for several months without any acceptable offers.
Is there anything unique or significant about your region or area from a commercial perspective? We can see that there is more and more commercial building under construction, not only on the industrial area of Spa Road, but also a new hotel to be built in the Town Center. What’s more, there is an extensive amount of residential and commercial constructions under way in Wharewaka area as well. Why did you decide to work as a commercial real estate agent? I have wide connections with many investors, including but not limited to Auckland and Wellington. Thus, I believe along with my vast connections, plus my hardworking, professionalism and knowledge from my business background, I am confident to create a win-win situation between the Vendors and the Investors. How do you make yourself stand out from others in your field? I am a very outgoing person who speaks multiple languages. I respect different cultures and I am good at putting myself in other’s shoes. I graduated with a bachelor degree of the major in hotel management and I will provide five-star service to all of my clients, not only to full fill their transaction needs but also create a good experience through the whole process. Where do you see upcoming opportunities in the market? Taupō is well known domestic tourist destination which has plenty of hospitality industry set-up here. However, there is more and more international events being held in Taupō which will stimulate the economic growth of the town as those promotion for international. Thus there will be more and more growing opportunities for the current business and the new business.
