Workshops & Trailblazers Dear Camp Harbor Families, Welcome to our Workshop and Trailblazer Programs! Workshops are held before camp from 8 am to 9 am or after camp from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Workshops are offered for a flat rate regardless of enrollment in the Camp Harbor program. There will be no pro-rating of workshop pricing, except for the week in which camp is closed due to the Fourth of July holiday. Afternoon camp is available for Trailblazer campers. Once the Trailblazer program has finished, any campers staying for the afternoon will be escorted back to their groups and resume their schedule for the remainder of the day. Campers only enrolled in the Trailblazer Program, with no afternoon camp, will stay for lunch only if they are participating in the lunch program at Camp Harbor. We may add or change Workshops and Trailblazers over the course of the year. Please refer to camp e-blasts and the camp website for changes. We look forward to seeing you this summer! Sincerely,

Workshop Programs Camp Harbor is pleased to offer exciting Workshop Programs to those campers who want to keep up their academic momentum, receive an extra boost to improve skills, or take on an extra challenge to move ahead. Harbor offers its workshop programs as a supplement to the Camp Harbor program. The workshop classes, in combination with the Camp Harbor program, are optional and available at an additional charge. This is an exciting option for campers interested in concentrating on, or developing, a particular skill or interest that they might not be able to pursue during the regular school year. All workshops meet daily, Monday through Friday, for one hour. Some workshops require a two-week commitment. These programs are offered twice each day: the morning session (8 am - 9 am) and the afternoon session (3:30 pm - 4:30 pm) By scheduling our workshop programs before and after the normal camp day, campers are able to enjoy all the benefits of the Camp Harbor schedule of events while also having the opportunity to explore their interests in a workshop. Please note that there are no make-up days and that a course that is under-enrolled may be cancelled. Schedule Changes: Should a student wish to make a change in their workshop schedule this must be done the Thursday prior to program, space must be available in the desired workshop for the change to occur. No refunds for schedule changes for missed workshops will be given after the Friday prior to the workshop. Enrollment Fee: All Camp Harbor Summer Programs require that a $50 registration fee accompany each camper’s/student’s enrollment agreement. This amount is a processing charge and is non-refundable. In addition, there is a $25-per-week deposit for each week that you register your child for camp and workshops. This deposit will only be applied towards the camp tuition for the week in which the deposit is made and is non-refundable. Please note that these charges apply for each camper/student even if he/she joins the program mid-season.

If your child is not registered to be a camper, and is just planning to workshops /trail blazers please be sure to submit a registration form, create a parent portal, and submit pick-up authorizations and medical forms. Academic Programs Students in the Academic Workshops may strengthen and develop their language arts (reading/writing), and math skills in morning and/or afternoon classes. Because classes are small (maximum of 6 in the younger groups), there is time for a high degree of interaction between teacher and student, and individual needs can be given even more attention than during the regular school year. The atmosphere is relaxed, and emphasis is on making the learning experience enjoyable. These classes are structured in two-week sessions: the weeks of 7/5 and 7/11, 7/18 and 7/25, 8/1 and 8/8. However, varied activities allow students to attend for any number of weeks without concern for sequence. Upon receipt of the enrollment agreement, parents requesting academic classes will be sent an Academic Questionnaire in the mail. An information sheet will be sent home by the teachers each Friday to keep parents informed. Academic courses being offered: Language Arts, Mathematics, Kindergarten Readiness and Creative Writing. Please note: To accommodate camp families who wish to enroll in both the Language Arts Workshop and Math Workshop, we are alternating the times in which they are offered. Please be advised to check the “Workshops at a Glance” pages for the full schedule. Language Arts Grades 1-6 *See Workshop Schedule Available 7/5 & 7/11, 7/18 & 7/25, 8/1 & 8/8 Students focus on reading comprehension, vocabulary development, phonics and writing skills. The enjoyment of reading and writing will be stressed in this class as students strengthen their skills. Various textbooks, workbooks, games and skill series will be used. The goals of the students enrolled will be taken into consideration when planning the specifics of the curriculum. Math Grades 1-6 *See Workshop Schedule Available 7/5 & 7/11, 7/18 & 7/25, 8/1 & 8/8 The focus will be on basic skills in addition and subtraction, including problem solving, speed drills, money, geometric shapes (for younger grades), telling time, skip counting, place value, and basic geometry (for the older grades). Manipulatives, group activities, games and various workbooks will be used. The specific goals of enrolled students will be addressed. Kindergarten Readiness Kindergarten AM Workshop Available 8/8 This “fun” class is designed to develop and expand pre-reading and math skills. This will include activities in number and letter recognition and formation, sequencing, counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, simple addition, vowel sounds, name writing, basic geography, and school safety rules.
Music Programs Ukulele Grades 2-8 PM Workshop Available 7/11 The ukuleles are back! Go beyond the basic ukulele lesson learned in music class to refine your craft and become a ukulele extraordinaire. Learn new notes and techniques, so you can jam out to the sweet sounds of the ukulele. Please Note: ukuleles are supplied by Camp Harbor, but spots are limited. Guitar I Grades 4-8 PM Workshop Available 7/25 This workshop is for those who would like to pick up the guitar for the first time! Campers will learn the parts of the guitar, notes, scales, and even some beginner songs! Please Note: Campers must provide their own instruments. Campers must bring instruments to and from camp with them each day; they may not be left overnight. Guitar II Grades 4-8 PM Workshop Available 8/8 This workshop is for those who took Guitar I or already have a little experience with the guitar. Campers will learn additional scales, chords and some more songs to jam with their friends! Please Note: Campers must provide their own instruments. Campers must bring instruments to and from camp with them each day; they may not be left overnight.
CIT Program The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is an exciting option for teenagers interested in working as camp counselors in the years ahead. CITs are required to participate in the Red Cross Babysitter, CPR and First Aid workshops offered. Although there is no additional charge for these required workshops, the materials fee is still required. The three workshops listed below will be held Monday July 25th. On Tuesday morning, CITs will complete the course and earn their certification. This course will not be offered again during the summer of 2022. Babysitter Course (Red Cross)
CIT Only Available 7/25-26 Students will learn the responsibilities of being a babysitter, how to handle emergencies and prevent accidents, how to play with children of different ages, how to diaper and dress infants, and how to prepare simple foods. They will also learn how to interview for a job and what to expect from employers. Materials fee: $20 CPR(Infant/Child)
CIT Only Available 7/25-26 Participants will become familiar with the Emergency Medical Services System, learn how to perform a primary survey and how to respond to a breathing and cardiac emergency in a child and an infant. Students will learn about safety and prevention of childhood injuries. Older students may receive certification. Materials fee: $20. First Aid (Red Cross Community)
CIT Only Available 7/25-26 After completing this course, participants will be familiar with how to recognize an
emergency and care for victims of injuries and sudden illness. Older participants may be able to receive certification. Materials fee: $20.
Trailblazer Programs Trailblazer Program
Half day program - available for grades 2-8 from 9 am - 12:30 pm (some will include a recreational swim)
The Trailblazer program is a half-day program with classes in science, art, or athletics. All of our classes will be taught by certified teachers or coaches, and the half-day program will also include a recreational swim and a snack. A full course listing with corresponding dates can be found in this booklet. Enrollment is limited. All programs require a $50 registration fee. This amount is a processing charge and is non-refundable. In addition, a $25 non-refundable deposit is required for each week you register your child. Materials Fee: Some Camp Harbor workshops and trailblazers may require payment of an additional materials fee. The materials fees range from $10 - $35 depending on the program chosen. This fee helps cover the high cost of quality supplies. Materials fees will be listed on your billing and full payment is due, with all other Camp & Workshop payments, by the week prior to the program. Medical form: A medical form, billing statement and additional program information will be sent to you upon receipt of the completed enrollment agreement. Please note that all Harbor Workshop and Trailblazers Programs will begin with the week of July 5, 2022, and continue for six weeks through the week of August 8th.

Join us for Baking Coach® morning enrichment programs which incorporate the wonders of math and science, while teaching basic cooking and baking skills. These hands-on workshops expose students to the use of kitchen tools, measurement and equivalents, and following instructions to prepare recipes. Students will be provided with appropriate containers to bring their creations home to share with family, and daily copies of each classroom recipe. Pies AM Workshop

Lacrosse Grades 1 and Up PM Workshop Available 7/11 The goal of this workshop is to provide campers with the opportunity to improve foundational skills and find enjoyment in the game using age/skill level appropriate activities that promote continued participation and success in the sport of Lacrosse. Basketball Grades 3-8 PM Workshop Available 7/25 Campers will learn the fundamentals in shooting, rebounding, dribbling, defense, and passing through games and contests. No prior experience necessary, just an interest in the sport. Minimum of 8 campers needed for this workshop to run. Dodgeball Grades 4-8 AM Workshop Available 8/1 In this workshop campers will be given the opportunity to play the exciting and fast paced game of dodgeball using different variations of the game to keep it fun and entertaining. Soft foam balls will be used to ensure camper safety! Pool Volleyball Grade 2-8 PM Workshop 4-5pm Available 7/18 Our Lifeguard Autumn, will teach you the skills of playing volleyball. This will take place in the 3 foot end of the pool. All participants must know how to swim. Minimum of 4 campers needed for this workshop to run. Seasonal Crafts Grades K-5 PM Workshop Available 7/11 This workshop will provide campers the opportunity to create fun seasonal decorations for their home to or give as gifts. Scrapbooking Grades 2-8 PM Workshop Available 7/18 Throughout the week campers will learn how to create their very own handmade scrapbooks. Each day they will create a different page for their book and learn tricks to make their books not only ‘cool’, but a lot of fun to look through. All materials will be provided, except for pictures. At the end of the week each child will bring home a beautiful scrapbook, and the ability and knowledge to make more books on their own. Watercolor Grades 2-8 AM Workshop Available 7/25 Learn all about Watercolor. In this workshop Camper will create beautiful artwork using watercolor.
S.T.E.A.M. Programs Camp Harbor is proud to introduce our STEAM program. Whether it is in the daily schedule or in our exciting Trailblazer and Workshop programs, Harbor campers will learn how the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math impact the world around us. This program will spark your child’s interest in science with opportunities not typically found in the classroom. Campers will share in the discovery with hands-on experiments and activities designed to encourage critical thinking and promote self-confidence. In the next 10 years, there will be 9 million new jobs in STEAM related fields. The goal of our program is to lay the foundation for your child to become part of the next great generation of innovators to lead us into the future.
S.T.E.A.M. Programs Forces of Nature Grades 4-8 Trailblazer 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Available 7/25 Students will learn about natural disasters and how they affect buildings. They will research, design, and create their own infrastructures that can hopefully withstand the impact of high winds, earthquakes, and strong external forces. Are you up for the challenge? LEGO WeDo Robotics Grades 1-3 PM Workshop TBA With Lego WeDo campers can learn about constructing and operating simple machines. By starting with the basic building blocks that make up all of the machines that surround us in our modern world, campers will learn to build, manipulate, and operate simple machines. From motors to gears to pulley systems and belts, campers will learn what makes the world… and a lot of other things… go ‘round! Chess Grades 1-5 PM Workshop Available 7/25 Learn how to play chess, including basic moves and all of the rules. Needs 10 to run.
Solve the Crime Grades 2-5 Trailblazer 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Available 7/18 Students a.k.a. ‘sleuths’ will have an interaction in a crime scene. Can you help find who is responsible for stolen snacks? They will examine fingerprints, look for clues, check out DNA and blood types, and other fun tasks to discover who stole the cookies.
Meditation Grades K-8 PM Workshop Available 7/18 & 7/25 Join us at Camp Harbor in our Meditation Workshop. Not only will your child have the opportunity to connect with themselves through self-aware guided meditations in mindful awareness of their surroundings, they will also have a chance to create friendships and a stronger sense of self through team building workshops, vision boards, and gratitude and abundance lessons by way of writing letters to themselves and their loved ones. Campers will take part in numerous goal-oriented activities that center around the campers getting to know who they want to be and how they will get there.
