A Letter from the Chair of the Board: 2019 at the Chamber
As 2018 draws to a close, I am excited to take a look at what the Chamber has planned for 2019. The Chamber accomplished a lot in 2018 including expanding economic development through the Main Street Hanover program, celebrating our first apprentice in our Apprenticeship Program, and graduating 16 local business professionals through the Leadership Hanover program. The Chamber also grew its membership and hosted successful events such as the Corporate Challenge, Annual Golf Outing, Hanover Dutch Festival and our second-annual Snack Town Brewfest.
In 2019, the Chamber will continue its focus on economic development, workforce, leadership and membership. In terms of economic development, the focus will remain on a new tourism campaign and the Main Street Hanover (MSH) program, which will enter its seventh year in 2019. The Main Street program is critical to the revitalization and continued economic growth of downtown Hanover, and the Chamber is proud to support its efforts. Regarding tourism, the Chamber will launch the Discover Hanover® brand in 2019. This brand is aimed at visitors more than 50 miles away, drawing them to visit, shop, and dine in our town. 2019 will also be the biggest year in history for our Discover Hanover® Magazine, as distribution will be at an alltime high of 25,000 copies in five states. Workforce development will also be a key focus in the new year as the Chamber continues to fulfill the needs of local employers. In 2018, the Chamber and its partners continued to expand the capacity of the Apprenticeship Program and model, adding two new partners and one new school district. We believe 2019 will bring even more partnerships, greatly enhancing our reach and support for our community’s large manufacturing industry.
The Leadership Hanover program will also continue to grow in the new year. The 2018-2019 Leadership Hanover class has been refreshed so students will gain handson experience with local businesses and organizations. In addition to Leadership Hanover, the Chamber will continue to support the growth of the Hanover Area Young Professionals (HAYP), an organization that strives to meet the needs of the younger generation in the business world.
As always, membership will be a top priority for the Chamber staff and board. The Chamber continually evaluates its programs to provide members with opportunities to grow their businesses. Through workshops, mixers, breakfasts, marketing, advocacy, health benefits and much more, the Chamber can provide a wide range of opportunities to showcase and strengthen member businesses. The Chamber would not be able to do all that it does without its signature events: Corporate Challenge, the Annual Golf Outing, the Hanover Dutch Festival and the Snack Town Brewfest. Looking forward, the Chamber staff and I are especially excited about the third-annual Snack Town Brewfest which will feature more breweries, more food and more fun. Chamber Legislative Roundtables are held quarterly on the FIRST Friday of the month at 7:30 a.m. at Dutch Country Restaurant. Please join us for the final roundtable of 2018 on Friday, November 2. As the chamber continues to develop a legislative scorecard, we have restructured our roundtables to focus on issues and legislation that is of upmost importance to the Hanover business community. Participants Compete and Have Fun at Sixth Annual Corporate Challenge

The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with CrossFit Hanover (CFH), hosted the annual Corporate Challenge on Friday, September 21. Participants from local businesses competed in one of two tracks – competitive or recreational. Dan Sell, owner of CFH, created the challenges for both tracks.

The ten teams in the competitive track participated in physically demanding events such as the tire flip, a sled pull, and tug-ofwar. True North Wellness Services was the competitive track champion, defeating our two-time reigning champion, Ability Prosthetic's and Orthotics, Inc. Four teams competed in the recreational track, which included yard games such as cornhole, Kan Jam, and giant Jenga. For the third year running, Clark’s Americas, Inc. took home the prize in the recreational track.

Chamber Announces Staff Promotion Gary Laird is pleased to announce the promotion of Emily Freiert to Marketing and Public Relations Director, “Emily has done a great job for the Chamber as she has forged strong relationships with organizations across South Central PA and Maryland that will provide new marketing outlets to help promote the Hanover area as a great place to live, work and do business." In her new role, Freiert will roll out the new Discover Hanover® brand and website, in addition to her regular duties of social media and website management, public relations, and the composition of all chamber publications. Freiert is excited about her new role and all of the projects it will bring. She is passionate about crafting a tourism plan that highlights Hanover's history, beautiful scenery, and unique quirks. Hanover offers something for everyone, and she is determined to make sure our town is "on the map" as a destination for visitors across the region.

ACNB PROMOTES TWO OFFICERS ACNB Bank recently promoted Kevin L. Cook to Vice President/Residential Mortgage Lending Sales Manager and Patrick O. Sease to Vice President/ Treasury Management Manager. With his promotion to Residential Mortgage Lending Sales Manager, Cook is responsible for overseeing ACNB Bank’s team of seven residential mortgage loan originators that serve customers throughout the bank’s market areas in southcentral Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. In his new capacity as Treasury Management Manager, Sease oversees the bank’s Treasury Management staff and function with responsibility for the development and implementation of products and services to help business customers manage their finances including business online banking, ACH origination, online wire services, positive pay, remote deposit capture, and various cash management sweep accounts.

COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2018 NATIONAL MERIT® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
RLH CPAs & Business Advisors was recently named as one of the 2018 Accounting Today’s Best Accounting Firms to Work for. Accounting Today has partnered with Best Companies Group to identify companies that have excelled in creating quality workplaces for employees. This survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best employers in the accounting industry, benefiting the industry’s economy, workforce and businesses. The list is made up of 100 firms. Firms from across the United States entered the two-part survey process to determine Accounting Today’s Best Accounting Firms to Work for. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data, and determined the final ranking.
Principal Richard La Rocca of Delone Catholic High School announced that Tessa Beauchat and Devon Sautter have been named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by La Rocca to these scholastically talented seniors. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Member businesses are invited to send company news, personnel updates and special interest stories for consideration in the Chamber Connection newsletter. Hometown Heroes – November 10th
Main Street Hanover is excited to announce that the 2nd Saturday in November will be spent honoring our local service men and women at our new Hometown Heroes event! Come out to Downtown Hanover on Saturday, November 10th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of military vehicles, great food, and informational booths from local veteran groups. We will also be introducing our new downtown pole banner campaign recognizing local military veterans or active duty service members. Family members and local businesses are invited to sponsor a banner which will be proudly displayed on a lamppost in the Borough of Hanover on Memorial Day.
Christmas Parade & Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony – November 23rd and 24th
Come kick off the holiday season with us downtown at our annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony! On Friday, November 23rd, Santa will make his arrival to Hanover during the Christmas Parade starting at 9 a.m. After the parade, Santa’s Cabin will be opening to visitors for the holiday season! Then, on Saturday, November 24th, explore downtown retailers and restaurants for Small Business Saturday before joining us to help light up center square at the tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.! Full of carolers, hot cocoa, and holiday cheer, accompany Main Street Hanover as we light the Christmas tree for the season!
Cookie Stroll & Christmas Tree Wars – December 8th
Christmas is on its way and with it comes our 2nd Annual Cookie Stroll! Come visit each participating downtown business on December 8th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a cookie sample! While you’re there, check out entries in our 5th Annual Christmas Tree Wars! Many downtown merchants partake in this festive contest to create a holiday tree at their place of business! Remember to pick up your passport at any participating location or print it online at our website www.MainStreetHanover.org! We hope to see you there!

The Borough of Hanover, Hanover's Christmas Committee, and Main Street Hanover and its partners are raising funds to build the Christmas activities and Cabin Maintenance fund in Hanover. No tax-payer money will be used in the building of the New Santa’s Cabin, the decorating of the town, or the Christmas activities. It is up to our community to support our Christmas efforts.
We are looking to our local business community to help us afford such great expenses. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will help to keep our community traditions alive this Christmas! If you are unable to make a contribution, we invite you to participate in other ways, like volunteering at the Cabin, participating in the parade, or joining the planning effort.
