The Hanover Chamber is seeking volunteers for the Snack Town Street Fair on July 16th and the Snack Town Brewfest on October 22nd. Thank you, Lisa Dennis! Lisa Dennis longtime educator and friend to the Hanover business community is retiring at the end of this school year. Please join us to celebrate Lisa’s career and retirement at the June Eye Opener Breakfast, on June 15. “Lisa has been a great educator, a true advocate for her students, and will be missed. She was instrumental in the development of programs like Introduction to Manufacturing that created awareness about career pathways in the manufacturing industry. Lisa worked to establish and nurture key business/education partnerships that created the foundation for the Chamber’s pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs,” according to Gary Laird, Chamber President. The Chamber hosted our second Building Better Business Workshop on Tuesday, May 3rd. Thank you to our presenters Leslie Elsner Bell, Senior Human Resources Consultant at Elsner Bell & Associates, LLC, and Michael Crocenzi, Partner at Barley Snyder. Leslie and Michael discussed the top things that you should include in your employee handbooks, plus emerging topics following the COVID-19 pandemic, and developments to Labor Law in 2022. Thank you to our presenters, sponsor Utz Brands, Inc., and host Guthrie Memorial Library - Hanover's Public Library. Our next workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7th with presenter Laura Teal, Workers' Compensation Manager at Utz Snacks, who will focus on and facilitate discussion of key tools for establishing and effectively managing an employer’s Workers' Compensation program. Business Briefs THE HANOVER BARBERSHOP CHORUS ANNOUCES OPEN HOUSES
The Hanover Barbershop Chorus has announced plans to conduct an “OPEN HOUSE” on Mondays during June of this year. If you like to sing, are young or old, male or female, and would like to experience singing without instrumental accompaniment, i.e. a cappella, come out and join us! As a chorus, we are learning songs for our annual show scheduled for September 24, 2022. We’d like to invite you to learn more about “a cappella” singing in the 4-part barbershop style and think about singing as a hobby for many fun filled years to come. We meet Mondays at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall at the rear of the Hanover Brethren Church, 601 Wilson Ave, Hanover, PA. For any questions or further information, please call 708-363-3220.
MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES INCOMING BOARD OF DIRECTORS PRESIDENT, MIKE GRANBY & VICE PRESIDENT JONATHON CROTHERS (York, PA) – Mike Granby, of York, PA was named President and Jonathan Crothers, of Lancaster, PA, was named Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Manufacturers’ Association both will assume their new roles at the next board meeting in late May. The Association, founded in 1906, is the voice of manufacturing for hundreds of member & non-member organizations in southcentral PA & northern MD. The Association supports manufacturers with the knowledge they need to operate, hire & train smarter. Mike Granby, President of Granby Consulting, is dual citizen of both the United States and United Kingdom. He
was also named one of the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal’s ‘Forty Under Forty’ listing in 2007. Granby is the former President of Red Lion Controls, a manufacturing technology enterprise in York, and served as Managing Director and founder of Paradigm Controls Ltd. and as Technical Director of Overseer Systems Ltd. of Chesterfield England. Mike is an instrument-rated private pilot, Angel Flight volunteer, and a published author in several aviation magazines. Jonathan Crothers, Continuous Improvement Coordinator and a 14-year employee of Stoner, Inc. of Lancaster, PA, who is leading producer of products used in household automotive and thermoforming industries. Crothers has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Penn State University and an MBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University. In his current role at Stoner, he is responsible for efficiency improvement and is a member of the strategy deployment team. Crothers previously served as a research and development scientist for 8 years and holds Six Sigma Black Belt and Lean Certifications. Mike Granby & Jonathan Crothers were voted into their new roles as President & Vice President at the Manufacturers’ Association’s Board of Directors meeting on March 23rd.
HOFFMAN HOMES FOR YOUTH NAMES NEW CEO Littlestown, PA - The Hoffman Homes for Youth (HHY) Board of Directors named Rebecca G. Van der Groef as the next CEO & President of Hoffman Homes, Inc. With

over 23 years of service at HHY, Becky has held several positions including Mental Health Worker, Psychotherapist, Assistant Director of Residential Services, Director of Residential Services, Vice President of Clinical & Residential Programs, and most recently, Interim CEO. Over the past few years, Becky worked closely with the previous Hoffman Homes CEO. She also collaborated extensively with the leadership team to spearhead the research and development of several new HHY programs. She is a Licensed Social Worker in Pennsylvania and holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Shippensburg University as well as a Master of Social Work from Temple University. Her professionalism, experience as a leader, and time spent with HHY allow her a powerful understanding of the complexities the organization faces. Becky has held or currently holds positions within several regulatory and advocacybased organizations, including Board Member for Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association (RCPA); Vice-Chair for Pennsylvania Council of Children, Youth, and Families (PCCYFS); Member of the Office of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) Planning Committee; Participant on the Shippensburg Advisory Board; Participant on the central region Workforce Development Taskforce. She has also worked alongside other providers and the Office of Children, Youth, and Families to develop policy clarification regarding mandated reporting of suspected child abuse. Her additional accomplishments include reaching the rank of Sergeant within the United States Reserve Armed Forces and serving as an adjunct professor for Shippensburg University’s Social Work Department. Becky will assume the role of CEO as of May 2, 2022.

Grace W. Bureau Elsner, founder and owner of OD&T, has over thirty years’ experience in leading and managing transformative change, developing leaders, facilitating strategic communications and maximizing organizational performance. “Now, more than ever, organizations, teams and individuals need to be agile, embrace a clear, shared sense of purpose, communicate strategically, and lead change with skill and heart. It continues to be humbling and a privilege to help clients transform and excel at this level,” Elsner noted. Elsner designs and facilitates customized workshops, retreats, meetings, executive offsites, team building and coaching focusing on strategic planning, leadership, change management, teamwork, communications, service excellence and organizational effectiveness. She provides results-based consulting, organizational assessment, training and executive coaching for a wide range of clients, including healthcare systems, manufacturing and service-based companies, federal and state agencies, educational institutions and nonprofits. She has served as adjunct faculty for University of Maryland, Towson University, Baltimore City Community College, and has been a guest lecturer at Penn State University. Elsner holds an M.S. in Applied Behavioral Science from John Hopkins University and a B.A. in Speech Communication from Shippensburg University. She is also a graduate of the Fellows in Change Management leadership program at Johns Hopkins University.
Elsner has served in numerous volunteer and leadership capacities for United Way of York County, American Red Cross, VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove, First United Methodist Church, Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce and Shippensburg University, and is a past recipient of the YWCA Hanover Women Making a Difference award.
WELLSPAN HEALTH NAMED ONE OF ‘TOP PLACES TO WORK IN HEALTHCARE’ FOR 2022 WellSpan Health was recently recognized by Becker’s Healthcare as a top destination for employment on its 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare 2022 list. The factors earning WellSpan a spot on the list include workforce diversity, employee benefits, and opportunities for professional growth. “As we continue to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in our workforce development, it’s an honor to see these efforts recognized by an organization that has a deep understanding of what matters in American healthcare,” said Bob Batory, senior vice president of WellSpan Health and chief human resources officer. “The development of our Total Rewards program, including compensation and an extensive benefits package, has strategically helped us attract highly engaged team members to join our health system.” Becker’s cited WellSpan’s employee assistance programs, immediate access to online urgent care, and wellness programs for its team members. OX INDUSTRIES ACQUIRES 150,000 SQUARE FOOT FACILITY IN HANOVER, PA
Hanover, PA – Ox Industries acquires a 150,000 square foot facility in Hanover, PA to expand its converting capacity in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The facility will house next-generation equipment and manufacturing practices and expand just in time stocking products and services. “We are excited to expand our Hanover location and to continue to invest in the community where we originally started OX. This is part of a $15 million investment in Hanover that will vertically integrate with our 100% recycled paperboard mills and create 50 new greencollar jobs,” said CEO Kevin Hayward.

On April 20th, the Chamber hosted an Eye Opener Breakfast sponsored by Penn State York. Thank you to Allan Lehman, director of the new Graham Center for Innovation and Collaboration at Penn State York, for his presentation on the Graham Fellows Program for Entrepreneurial Leadership. This program provides the framework for an ongoing opportunity for Penn State York to partner with business and industry and provide a solution to a major workforce issue in the region – the need for college graduates who are mature and independent, can think critically, and can lead.
