2021 June COVID Update from Chamber President, Gary Laird The past fifteen months have been incredibly turbulent and challenging for businesses both large and small. As restrictions are relaxed and we begin to safely transition to the new normal, the Hanover Chamber will continue to stay focused on what is most important to us, our members, and the community. Our organization experienced the burden of COVID-19, and it enabled use to evaluate our organization and rethink how we conduct business. We look forward to resuming many of our social activities and events. That is a reason why many of our small business members join the Chamber.

In March 2020, when the pandemic struck it changed how we live and how we conduct business. Since then, the Chamber has worked diligently to provide information through its communication channels regarding COVID, resources available to business, advocating for members and the community, and working with elected officials and healthcare leaders to provide timely and meaningful information. Throughout this past year, our staff has focused on the pandemic and its impact on the community, but we also remained focused on our key priorities of economic and community development. Our pre-apprentice and apprenticeship programs continue to grow, and our business/ education partnerships are as strong as ever. We conducted our Leadership Hanover class with thirteen participants this year, and only did one class virtually. While the pandemic put a pause on in-person events, we adapted by turning our events virtual to celebrate our members and the community. Our Annual Business Awards celebration turned virtual as we were able to still recognize members and award recipients through a video series. The annual Best and Brightest celebration that
The Hanover Chamber’s current fiscal year ends in August and our team is already planning for 2022 and 2023. In 2023, the Chamber will be celebrating a major milestone of 100 years of service to our members and the community. This year has been the most challenging in my twenty years of service at the Chamber and I am sure the same holds true to you. I am hopeful that we can safely reopen and get back to business as usual and have COVID and pandemic drop from being part of everyday conversation.
In March 2021, we were reaccredited as a Five Star Chamber by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This is the highest rank a Chamber of Commerce can receive placing the Hanover Chamber in the top two percent of Chambers across the country. The Accreditation process scores planning, communications, facilities, finance, governance, government affairs, human resources, programming, and technology.

Chamber Hires New Marketing & Public Relations Manager, Caitlin Johnson
Volunteers Needed for Events
The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the hire of Caitlin Johnson as Marketing & PR Manager. Johnson started her role in late April and is looking forward to the opportunity to learn all she can about the Hanover area and become a member of the community.
Originally from Bucks County, Johnson moved to York County in 2019 to work at the York County History Center as the Manager of PR & Marketing before joining the Chamber team. In November, Johnson completed the Executive Connections course (Class of 2020) through Leadership York. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Photojournalism from Point Park University and a Master’s degree in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Gary Laird, Chamber President said, “We are very excited to have Caitlin join the Chamber team. Based on her skills and experience she is going to be an integral part of the Chamber organization.” Please join us in welcoming Caitlin Johnson as our new Marketing & PR Manager!
Give Local York Results
Event season is quickly approaching! From our Annual Golf Outing to the new Snack Town Street Fair, these events draw thousands of people into Hanover where they’ll experience the best we have to offer, from businesses to restaurants and everything in between. The Hanover Chamber is seeking volunteers for the Snack Town Street Fair on September 18, and the Snack Town Brewfest on October 30. Volunteer shifts are available at various times for a wide assortment of tasks, like setup, admission, cleanup and more. Groups are welcome and encouraged as a great way to promote your business or organization! All volunteers (with organization names) will appear in our newsletter following the events. Leadership Hanover Info Sessions
The 2021-2022 session of Leadership Hanover begins in October! Applications should be completed and returned by August 31. This year on Give Local York day, 302 organizations throughout York County benefited from the biggest giving day of the year. The total raised this year reached over $3.7 million from over 11,000 donors. Congratulations to all the organizations who participated. Thank you to everyone who was able to make a donation or who shared donation links throughout the day. One Hanover based nonprofit was able to break the top 10, Eichelberger Performing Arts Center.
For those with questions about the program, the Chamber will be hosting four virtual informational sessions in June and July. Both morning and noon sessions will be available for convenience. Morning sessions will take place from 9:30-10:00 a.m. and noon sessions will take place from 12:00-12:30 p.m. RSVP IS REQUIRED FOR ALL SESSIONS! Join us this Fall for Snack Town Street Fair & Brewfest The Hanover Chamber is anxiously awaiting the arrival of two major events this fall, Snack Town Street and Snack Town Brewfest! As previously announced, the Hanover Dutch Festival is becoming the Inaugural Snack Town Street Fair this fall. Making this year extra special, our community celebrates the 100year anniversary of Utz. The Utz team has plenty of surprises planned during the Snack Town Street Fair to celebrate 100 years with Street Fair attendees! The 2021 event will be presented by Member’s 1st FCU. Saturday, September 18, 2021 will be a day full of all your favorites—handmade crafts, local goods, street food, kid-friendly activities, exciting entertainment—and a few new items that will surely become favorites as well. If you are interested in becoming a vendor for this event, please visit our new website, www.snacktownstreetfair.com, to fill out a vendor application. ACNB WELCOMES NEW HIRE DUNN Darrin L. Dunn has joined ACNB Bank in the position of Mortgage Loan Originator. In this role, he provides financing solutions for individuals interested in buying or building a home, or refinancing an existing mortgage. Mr. Dunn is based at ACNB Bank’s North Hanover Office, located at 1127 Eichelberger Street in Hanover, PA, and serves residential mortgage customers primarily in the York County market. Mr. Dunn has more than 15 years of experience in residential mortgage lending in southcentral Pennsylvania. A graduate of Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, MD, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UBMC). Mr. Dunn resides in Hanover, PA, with his wife, Jennifer, and their three children. David will manage all Technology Advisors in the Lancaster, Lebanon and Harrisburg markets. David and his team will educate and provide technology solutions to businesses and non-profits. David, who joined Doceo in November of 2019, brings over 28 years of sales and sales management experience to Doceo. He previously held managerial positions at Block Business Systems (now Stratix) and Phillips Office Solutions (now Marco). He attended Lancaster Bible College and the Community College of Baltimore County and holds a Bachelor of Science.
ACNB PRESIDENT & CEO HELT NAMED TO CPBJ'S POWER 30 FOR BANKING AND FINANCE LIST Helt’s focus is to provide effective leadership by sharing the corporation’s vision with the team, executing strategic priorities for the enhancement of shareholder value, reinforcing a culture of transparency and solid corporate governance practices and being visible and accessible to employees, shareholders and in the communities served by the bank. He was named president of ACNB Bank, a subsidiary of ACNB Corporation, in September 2015. In May 2017, Helt became president and chief executive officer of both ACNB Corporation and ACNB Bank. “Given the past year, I am proud of the way ACNB Corporation managed the impacts of the pandemic on our many stakeholders. We were able to uphold our tradition of paying dividends to our shareholders, while protecting our employees, serving our customers and assisting our communities via ACNB Helping Hands,” he said. Most important life lesson: Teamwork! Helt is a strong believer in the power of a team of individuals working toward a common vision. This power of the team can accomplish more than one person pressing ahead. “I have been fortunate to work with some talented persons in my career and have benefited greatly,” he said. After spending so much time in the office or in front of a computer, he enjoys working outdoors in the yard and around the house. “It is nice to get outdoors and to see the results of your work at the end of a project,” Helt said.
