June Update from Chamber President, Gary Laird As we begin to reposition and rebuild our local economy, we must stay diligent and comply with reopening guidelines to protect businesses, employees, and customers. Managing the reentry process will take months, and in some cases, years. Clearly, the financial impact of this pandemic will most certainly be felt for many years. To help support our members, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce has developed a resource guide to assist in reopening responsibly and safely. Click here to access a copy of the guide. If you’d like a copy emailed to you, please reach out to Elizabeth Csuri at office@hanoverchamber.com. We are still working hard to ensure that our members are staying informed, being advocated for, and receiving the support they need to keep going. We continue to send twice-weekly COVID-19 updates, host webinars, collect business information through our feedback form, and promote our members on social media and in this newsletter. We are also hosting virtual meetings between our business and education partners to determine how we can continue with our workforce and apprenticeship programs to best serve the needs of employers and students. As a 501(c)(6) organization we do not qualify for many of the relief programs offered by the federal government like the Payroll Protection Program. In addition, rescheduling our major summer events will have an impact on revenue over the next several months. While our organization is still in a strong financial position, we’ve made the decision to put our staff on a reduced work schedule to protect our reserves and manage cash flow.
Our new hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and we will adjust when needed to be flexible. It is critical that we keep our team in place, and when the time is right, we will return to our previous hours. While our doors will remain closed for the foreseeable future, please know we are working hard behind them. Our dedication to our members has not wavered during the past few months, and we can assure you that it won’t in the future. Whatever you may need during this time, please don’t hesitate let us know. Workforce Spotlight
Our workforce development efforts haven't missed a beat these past few months. All of our regular workforce and apprenticeship partner meetings are still taking place each month virtually via zoom. These meetings bring together local businssess, industry leaders, employers, and educators. In addition, WorkPath continues to move along smoothly as a new class for high school students is set to start this month. This 12-day course will begin June 15. Components include: Basic Blue Print Reading, Basic Shop Math, Basics of Measurements & Equipment, and Soft Skills. Interested students can respond to be considered by June 5, 2020. Delone Catholic Students Earn Top Honors
Jacob Fleming, Keefer Stiles, Tyler Hillson and Lily Shriner display their awards at the York County Science and Engineer Fair in March.
Four Delone Catholic High School students received recognition at the York County Science and Engineering Fair (YCSEF) held at Penn State York March 7-10. Freshmen students Jacob Fleming, Lily Shriner and Keefer Stiles and Sophomore student Tyler Hillson all placed first or second in their respective categories. Shriner and Stiles both received a special award from the American Meteorological Society for their projects measuring the health of waterways in Adams County. Stile’s project also earned him the Stockholm Junior Water Prize. Shriner’s project was recognized for excellence by York Township. Hillson’s project “Effectiveness of cephalopod ink as a nontoxic, naturally derived flame retardant” earned first place in his category, was recognized for special awards by the American Statistical Society and ASM Materials Education Foundation, and earned him a $1500 award with the Adhesives Research Award. Hillson’s work was ultimately recognized when he was named Reserve Grand Champion in the Senior Division.
ACNB Helping Hands Initiative
ACNB Bank has launched a special initiative---ACNB Helping Hands---to reinforce the Bank’s commitment to community during this challenging time when the COVID-19 pandemic is dramatically impacting local businesses and residents. This program, funded by both ACNB Bank and its affiliated employees, is designed to provide thousands of meals prepared by restaurants that are customers and then distributed through local community organizations across the Bank’s southcentral Pennsylvania and northern Maryland footprint. The Altland House in Abbottstown, PA, Mamma’s Pizzeria and Ristorante in Biglerville, PA, CJ’s BBQ Smokehouse in Chambersburg, PA, and Maria & Sal’s Pizzeria in Fayetteville, PA, provided meals last month to community organizations based in ACNB Bank’s southcentral Pennsylvania markets including the Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen in Gettysburg, PA, Hanover Area Council of Churches in Hanover, PA, Our Daily Bread in York, PA, Franklin County Housing Authority in Chambersburg and Waynesboro, PA, and Salvation Army in Chambersburg, PA. Additionally ACNB Bank staff members are reaching out to local nursing home residents by making more than 250 greeting cards and offering words of encouragement during this time of isolation when residents cannot have any visitors.

ACNB BANK ANNOUNCES PROMOTION ACNB Bank has promoted Agribusiness Lending Officer Andrea D. Foore to Assistant Vice President. In her role, she works with farmers and other agricultural entities to find the right solution to achieve the financial goals unique to each business operation. The banking products offered include farm real estate loans, farm equipment loans, and working capital lines of credit, as well as an array of deposit services. Foore is based at ACNB Bank’s North Hanover Office located at 1127 Eichelberger Street, Hanover, PA, and serves agricultural businesses primarily in the southcentral Pennsylvania area. Foore joined ACNB Bank in 2017 as Junior Agribusiness Loan Officer. Raised on a fourth generation Registered Angus cow/calf operation in York County, she graduated from Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock, PA, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management from Penn State in State College, PA. Foore serves as a member of the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Livestock Association and Pennsylvania Farm Show Scholarship Foundation, as well as is the program coordinator for the York Fair Queen. BARLEY SNYDER ATTORNEY DAVID WALKER NAMED TO CASA BOARD Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that attorney David Walker has been named to the board of directors at CASA of Lancaster County. The Court Appointed Special Advocates of Lancaster County received its first case in 2010 and continues to work to ensure that every child of the county that is abused and neglected will have a safe, permanent home and the support to become a healthy, empowered adult. Walker follows Barley Snyder partner Scott Landis as a member of the organization’s board. Landis is a former president of the CASA of Lancaster County board. In 2017, CASA named Barley Snyder the recipient of one of its biggest annual awards, “Heroes in the Lives of Children.” Walker is a member of the firm’s Education and Employment practice groups. He is also a member of the board of directors at the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and a 2014 graduate of the Leadership Lancaster program.
BARLEY SNYDER ATTORNEY TO JOIN TITLE IX GROUP Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that attorney Kalani Linnell has been handpicked to join a group of 50 Title IX and education law attorneys from across the country to develop joint guidance on the final Title IX regulations recently released. The group will craft guidance to efficiently and thoroughly assist schools and colleges with the monumental task of analyzing and complying with the changes. The free guidance is intended to be thoughtful, highquality and widely available online to all schools. Linnell was invited to contribute to the joint guidance based on her understanding of the unique challenges that K-12 schools have historically faced when attempting to comply with a law that was designed for the post-secondary educational setting. Title IX, signed into law in 1972, protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.

Coronavirus and Downtown
Things in the downtown have changed since the pandemic began--there is no denying that. But we are encouraged by the support from the local community in adapting along with the business owners. From curbside pickups to gift card purchases, our community is remaining supportive through this new phase of downtown living. We are excited to be in the process of cautiously reopening the downtown and hope that you will continue to support the local family of businesses that are ready to serve you!
Summer Events
It’s hard to believe we aren’t inviting you downtown for Sip & Stroll this June. While it’s as upsetting for us as it is you, we are confident that canceling this large gathering was the right thing to do for you and our business community. We are positive that we will have fun and exciting events this summer, but they will in fact look VERY different than what we are used to. Please stay tuned to learn about what we have in store for you when we’re able to bring you downtown safely.
