Chamber Reignites Yearly Membership Drive For 2021 April marks the beginning of the Hanover Chamber's Membership Drive! The Chamber’s membership drive is an important concentrated effort to secure new members and strengthen the Chamber’s voice. It is integral to our success - and yours. Because of your involvement in the Hanover community, we ask that you, our members, take an active part in the drive. During the month of April, Chamber members will be encouraged to spread the word about the chamber and help us figure out who we don’t call a member—yet! There are several ways you can get involved. One is to fill out the insert in the center of this newsletter. All we ask is that you fill out as many categories as you can and send it back to us no later than May 1, 2021. We also encourage you to share your experience with the chamber with your key contacts and clients. Every member has a benefit they use most; whether that is our networking opportunities, affordable marketing options, cost-savings programs, etc., we ask that you spread the word and share your appreciation of the chamber. Our goal is to add 40 members by June 1, 2021, and we are counting on our current membership to help us meet that goal. As an incentive, we will allow any member who recruits two or more additional members to choose one of the following perks, free of charge: • One complimentary ticket to Snack Town Brewfest • Two complimentary tickets to a future Eye Opener Breakfast

Chamber Celebrates Membership, Local Educators with Virtual Business Awards Ceremony The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Business Awards Ceremony virtually throughout the month of March. The event was presented by APPI Energy and KLK Welding. After cancelling our November 2020 event due to COVID-19, the Chamber decided to take the event virtual, celebrating with a video series on social media throughout the whole month of March. In addition to naming Educators of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Positive Action Award, and the Her Traditions Women’s Enrichment Award, the Chamber recognized UPMC Hanover and WellSpan Health with the Community Leader Award. Year award to The Markets at Hanover. Small businesses, classified as those with no more than 40 fulltime employees, play a crucial part in the economy and welfare of the Hanover community. The Small Business of the Year is awarded to the business that best exemplifies sound principles of business success, personnel management, and community leadership and service. Award sponsor Barley Snyder presented the Entrepreneur of the Year award to John Bailey, President of Bailey Coach. The Entrepreneur of the Year is awarded to a member of the Hanover Chamber whose business has been locally established for at least two years. The nominee’s business must be reputable, visible and show the effects of entrepreneurial skill in exemplary management and growth, and the nominee must be the individual responsible for the reputation that distinguishes the business among its competitors. Award sponsor WellSpan Health, presented the Positive Action Award to the Hanover Borough Police Department, Penn Township Police Department, and Hanover Area Fire and Rescue. The Positive Action Award is given to an organization or business that positively contributes to meeting the needs of the Hanover region and works together with community members toward a cooperative vision that suggests ways to manage growth. Award sponsor York Traditions Bank presented the Her Traditions Women’s Enrichment Award to Barbara Rupp. Newly added in 2019, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce collaborated with York Traditions Bank to create the Her Traditions Women’s Enrichment Award. The Hanover area is home to women in a variety of philanthropic, entrepreneurial, and leadership roles. The Chamber supports these women and acknowledges the unique challenges they face in everyday life, both in the workplace and in the community. As such, this award recognizes an individual who has enriched the life or lives of women in the greater Hanover area. And finally, the Chamber's staff and board of directors awarded the Community Leader Award to WellSpan Health and UPMC Hanover for their dedication to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Chamber Celebrates 2020-2021 Leadership Hanover Graduates

Leadership Hanover graduated its ninth class on March 5, 2021. Meeting once day a month for six months, the program focuses on key components of the community, including: education, economic development, health and wellness, local government, and state government.The 2020-2021 program was sponsored by Penn National Insurance and WellSpan Health. Tuition for the program is $1,200, which covers all training materials, transportation, lunch and five-full day sessions Sponsorship opportunities are also available for any business wishing to gain recognition through the program while maintaining a seat in the current session. The 2021-22 session will begin in October; applications must be received by August 31. For those with questions, several info sessions will be held in June and July. Stay tuned for more details.

Annual Best & Brightest Ceremony to Be Held Virtually Next Month

The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce and Elsner Engineering Works, in collaboration with Delone Catholic, Hanover, New Oxford, South Western, and Spring Grove high schools, will be recognizing top-performing graduates from the class of 2021. Typically, these graduates would be recognized at a formal event held at one of the participating high schools. Due to COVID-19, this year’s event will be held virtually May 3-7. The chamber will be creating a video series for students, families, and educators to take part in and recognize these high-acheivers. Each student will still receive a certificate to recognize his/her accomplishments. In addition to Elsner Engineering Works, the Chamber would like to recognize our local school districts for their adaptability and dedication to our community during this unprecedented time. “The Hanover Chamber is proud to work with these local partners who support the Best and Brightest program,” said Chamber President, Gary Laird. “These students are the future of the Hanover area. We are eager to congratulate this year’s recipients and wish them success in their future endeavors.”

Penn State York to offer FE review course beginning March 30

Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week – Preparing tomorrow’s workforce!

Engineers seeking licensure as a professional engineer in Pennsylvania are required to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Penn State York is offering the Fundamental if Engineering Review, Engineering-in-Training (EIT) course beginning Tuesday, March 30 from 6-9 p.m. via Zoom. The course continues through August 10.

Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) brings together students and businesspeople for a powerful hands-on learning experience where students are immersed in the exciting world of modern business and free enterprise. The goal is to properly prepare our young people for the demands of the 21st century workforce.

This course is an extensive review of fundamental engineering topics included in the fundamentals of engineering exam. Topics include math, engineering probability/statistics, chemistry, computers, ethics, engineering economics, engineering mechanics (statistics and dynamics), strength of materials, material properties, fluid mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and thermodynamics.

At PFEW, students make the same decisions real executives make as they run a simulated manufacturing company. Each team is paired with a volunteer business mentor who imparts invaluable real-world perspective as they explore all facets of business operations and develop the skills that today’s employers seek. Teams are responsible for two judged presentations where they must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of all facets of business operations. The week is highlighted by Speakers delivering inspiring messages directed at the students’ personal and professional development. An ethics case study, other businessrelated activities and the college experience round out this exciting week. Since 1979, more than 46,000 young Pennsylvanians and countless PA companies have benefitted from this unique program.

Instruction will begin assuming prior knowledge of engineering principles. Students are responsible for eligibility requirements for taking the FE exam listed by the state of Pennsylvania. Cost for the course is $849 for a single attendee, or $775 per person for three or more individuals from the same company or organization. HLS HIRES NEW CIVIL DESIGNER Mike O’Brien, Civil Designer, brings five years of experience as a design professional drafting and designing stormwater management, grading, erosion and sediment control, well, septic, water, and sewer on both small residential and large commercial projects to Hanover Land Services, Inc. O'Brien also has experience as an Adjunct Professor at Carroll Community College instructing CAD 101, Civil 3D, Advanced AutoCAD 3D, and Customizing CAD software. O'Brien is tasked with supporting HLS’ design team and coaching team members on various software as necessary for accurate and efficient project completion. CINDY FREMONT NAMED EDWARD JONES PRINCIPAL Cindy Fremont, who has served as an Edward Jones financial advisor in Hanover the past 11 years, has been named a principal with the firm's holding company, The Jones Financial Companies, LLLP. She was one of 161 individuals chosen this year from more than 50,000 associates across the United States and Canada to join the firm's principals. Fremont and her husband, Pete, will remain in the Hanover area, where Fremont will continue to serve investors. In addition to serving local investors, she serves as an Edward Jones regional leader, promoting the health, growth and leadership development of 73 branch teams.

Hovis has been unanimously elected as the firm's next Managing Partner. Ron Hershner, who served as Managing Partner for the last ten years, stepped down on February 28, 2021. BARLEY SNYDER PARTNER TOMEVI TO HELM LEGAL PUBLICATION Barley Snyder is pleased to announce that the York Legal Record has named partner Justin A. Tomevi the chair of its publication board. The York Legal Record is the publication of the York County Bar Association (YCBA). Each week it informs the association’s attorneys of relevant opinions in the county. The board is responsible for its weekly publication, for setting policy regarding publication and for establishing fees for legal and commercial advertisements. Tomevi was previously the board vice chair and has been on the board since 2016. Tomevi is a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, as well as its Trusts & Estates Practice Group, the COVID-19 Response Service Team, the Construction Industry Group and the Transportation, Distribution & Logistics Industry Group.
