SATURDAY • APRIL 4

As we move into the spring season, your club and community come alive with incredible energy and activity. From a joy-filled Easter Brunch shared with families and friends to one of our most beloved traditions, the Bunny Breakfast Bash, it is wonderful to see members gathering and connecting. With warmer weather arriving, the community is especially active, with neighbors out walking, enjoying time with family and pets, and taking full advantage of our beautiful Lowcountry surroundings. Whether it is poolside afternoons, friendly competition on the bocce, basketball, pickleball, and tennis courts, or rounds on our stunning Pete Dye golf course, spring is truly a special time at Hampton Hall.
We are also entering another very positive year marked by meaningful progress on our stormwater initiatives and the continued advancement of our Master Amenities Plan. Most notably, members approved the $6.6-million Main Clubhouse Project in October 2025. We are proud to partner with awarding winning firm, Chambers, as our architect and equally impressive, local firm of Shoreline Construction as our general contractor. Construction is anticipated to begin later this year, with ongoing updates shared throughout the process.
The project places a major emphasis on food and beverage operations, transforming the underutilized lanai and brasserie areas into an exceptional casual

dining experience, improving acoustics, modernizing the kitchen, and creating a dedicated employee breakroom for the incredible team members who are truly the heart of our club. Much of 2026 will focus on transitioning services to Pete’s Grill during construction. We are fortunate to have an additional clubhouse to serve the entire Hampton Hall membership, an advantage many clubs do not have during major renovations.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated Main Clubhouse Oversight Advisory Group. Their bios and project updates can be found at hamptonhallclubsc.com/master-plan.
I am pleased to introduce your 2026 Board of Directors for Hampton Hall Club and the Golf Club. We are fortunate to have strong and supportive leadership across both the Club and Golf Boards.
I look forward to working closely with your Board on another productive year with continued

focus on stormwater initiatives, Master Amenities Plan priorities, governance, and strong fiscal performance. We recently completed our annual Board Orientation with top industry consultants, who work with over a thousand private clubs nationwide, and it was noted that Hampton Hall Club remains one of the most financially sound clubs in the country. Thank you as well to all committee and advisory group members who attended, including the facilities tour which includes a behind the scenes of golf maintenance, kitchens, loading docks, and more.
As we look ahead to the spring months, it is especially rewarding to see Hampton Hall not just as a Club, but as a true neighborhood of engaged and supportive members. From morning walks and friendly conversations along the paths to afternoons spent at your Club and evenings shared with friends, the spirit of community (and what we call Hampton Hall-spitality) continues to grow. With exciting events, continued capital investments, exceptional staff, focus on member experience, and engaged leadership, we are well positioned for another active and positive season.
Thank you for being such an important part of the Hampton Hall community, and I look forward to seeing you around your neighborhood and your Club.

LADIES WITH LADIES SENIOR GREETINGS

Before making Hampton Hall their home, both Clara and Bob led accomplished professional lives. Bob spent his career in Michigan as a CFO for a Chrysler subsidiary, while Clara served as CEO of an energy services company in New Jersey and Oxford, England. Life brought them each profound loss early on—both were widowed at a young age and together brought three children into a blended family that has since grown to include two cherished grandsons.
So how did they find one another? Enter technology—and a shared love of fine wine and great food. That connection ultimately led them to start a new chapter together.
Hampton Hall already held a special place in Clara’s heart. In 2006–2007, she and her late husband, Cliff Glenn, built a vacation
home in the Carolina section while living full-time in Monmouth County, New Jersey. They treasured every moment spent here. After Cliff’s passing and Clara’s later meeting Bob—who had spent his entire life in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his late wife, Diane—the couple knew they wanted to begin their life together somewhere meaningful. Hampton Hall was the clear choice. Just one week before their wedding, they purchased a lot on Torrington Lane and set plans in motion to build their dream home.
Today, Clara and Bob fully embrace the Hampton Hall lifestyle. Clara is a regular at the fitness center and enjoys a wide range of classes. Bob stays active walking their rescue dog, Oscar, biking through the neighborhood, and golfing. Just as important to them
“Trust us, you will be amazed at how close you will become to the ‘family’ that is Hampton Hall!”
is the vibrant social scene: wine dinners, Bob’s breakfast group and Friday morning coffee, and Clara’s poker group, stitching group, book clubs, and Mahjongg friends.
Travel is a major passion. Together—and often with fellow Hampton Hall friends—they’ve explored Antarctica, gone on an African safari, toured Napa, the Canadian Rockies, Venice, and Croatia. Up next on their travel list: Berlin, Prague, Iceland, and the Seychelles.
One thing many neighbors may not know is that Clara and Bob

were married right here in Bluffton, with their wedding reception held at the Hampton Hall Clubhouse on February 16, 2013. Their love of wine also played a starring role in designing their home, which was quite literally built around a 2,400-bottle wine room. Collecting fine wine is a passion—but sharing it is the real joy.
When asked what they value most about Hampton Hall, their answer is simple: the people. The opportunity to connect with others who share similar interests and to build meaningful friendships has made Hampton Hall feel like family. That sense of community has also transformed their lifestyle—making it easy to stay active, engaged, and socially connected.
Their advice to anyone considering a move to Hampton
“When asked what they value most about Hampton Hall, Clara and Bob’s answer is simple: the people.”

Hall? “Make the move and make new friends. You’ll learn new things about yourself and the community around you.”
One of their favorite traditions is participating in the annual Holiday Parade. Each year, they look forward to the excitement, creativity, and shared joy it brings—and they hope even more neighbors will join in next year.
Perhaps the most powerful example of what Hampton Hall means to Clara and Bob came during a stressful time: moving into their new home. In their previous lives in Michigan and New Jersey, support came primarily from family. But here, community stepped in. For fourteen straight days, Hampton Hall friends and neighbors delivered three meals a day to their home, that was fourteen more meals than
they ever received in Michigan or New Jersey combined. It was a gesture they’ll never forget—and a true testament to the strength of the Hampton Hall community.
For the Spinettos, Hampton Hall isn’t just where they live—it’s where they found home.

Please join us in welcoming Brian Vogt to Hampton Hall as our new Head Golf Professional.
Brian brings a strong foundation in both playing and professional golf operations. A native of Mechanicsburg, PA, Brian began playing golf at the age of ten and quickly developed a passion for the game. After high school, he relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he attended The Golf Academy of America to further his golf education.
In 2009, Brian moved to Charleston and launched his professional career at the Kiawah Island Club. He later joined Coosaw Creek Country Club in 2015 as an Assistant Golf Professional and was promoted to Head Golf Professional in May 2023 upon earning his Class A membership with the PGA of America.
Brian is an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions football fan. He enjoys exploring local cuisine and unwinding with video games in his spare time. Brian is excited to bring his experience, enthusiasm, and commitment to member service to Hampton Hall Club.
Stop by the Golf Shop and extend a warm Hampton Hall welcome to Brian.

BY BRENT CARLSON, PGA Director of Golf
Iam just returning from dropping off another load of donations to First Tee, and it made me reflect on how this tradition began. It all started years ago when one of our Golf Members asked if I had any use for an old set of clubs. I contacted The First Tee and they sounded excited about the set. I delivered the set, and just like that, a new tradition began.
At first, we made the trip once a year, loading my minivan with gently used clubs and golf items. As word spread among our Membership, the donations continued to grow—and so did the number of trips. These days, I am making several visits each year.
Now that our kids are grown, the minivan has been replaced with smaller cars, making these donation runs a bit more cozy—I miss my minivan! Many years ago, I took a photo at the initial drop-off and even asked for pictures during the next few visits. Since these trips have become a regular occurrence, I have stopped taking photos and simply enjoy knowing the impact they make.
This is just another way our great Membership exhibits their generosity. Thank you for continuing to show your kindness to support a great program!

“ Dear Brent, All I can say is “Wow!”
Please express out gratitude to Members of Hampton Hall Club for the outpouring of golf equipment, clothing and accessories. This was very likely the largest amount of donated goods we have received at one time.”
—Pat Zuk, Executive Director, First Tee–The Lowcountry

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
—When Harry Met Sally

MATT SAPOCHAK | Director of Golf Maintenance & Agronomy
Spring is the ideal time to begin your annual turf maintenance program, and the most important first step is conducting a soil test. A soil test provides the foundation for a successful fertilization and weed control plan throughout the growing season.
Soil testing kits are readily available at SiteOne or Vereens. To collect a proper sample, remove a one-inch plug approximately four inches deep from seven to ten different locations across your yard. Remove any thatch from each plug, then place the soil into the testing bag until it reaches the indicated fill line. Both companies can submit your sample for professional analysis.
The first item I review on a soil test is soil pH. For centipedegrass, a pH around 5.5 is ideal. For all other turfgrasses, a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 is preferred. On the golf course, we strive to maintain a pH near 6.5. If your pH is low, lime is recommended; if it is high, sulfur should be applied to bring it back into balance.
Another key component of the soil test is cation exchange capacity (CEC), specifically the balance of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg). Ideally, calcium should make up 60–70 percent of the CEC, while magnesium should fall between 10–20 percent. Maintaining this balance supports healthy root development and nutrient uptake.
If you have not yet applied a pre-emergent herbicide, it is important to do so as soon as possible to help prevent seasonal weed pressure. Fertilizer applications should follow in the second or third week of April. A fertilizer such as 18-9-18 with micronutrients and 50 percent slow-release nitrogen is an excellent option. A 19-26-10 fertilizer can also be used, provided it is followed by an additional potassium application.
Always apply granular fertilizers to dry turf and water them in thoroughly after application. This significantly reduces the risk of fertilizer burn and helps nutrients move into the soil effectively.
The bottom line is simple: conducting a soil test each year is essential for building a sound, effective fertilization program and maintaining a healthy, resilient lawn throughout the season.

SAVE THE DATE!
• Win the kitchen, don’t rush it. Dink and drop patiently until you get a ball you can attack. Pros are totally fine hitting 10+ soft shots in a row.
• High percentage > power. A 70% speed-up to the hip is better than a 100% blast that flies long.
Footwork & Positioning
• Stay low, paddle up, net height. Knees bent, paddle in front of your chestready position is everything.
• Move as a unit in doubles. If your partner moves left, you move left. Gaps lose points. Divide the court into thirds not halves.
• Split step as you work your way to the kitchen. Tiny hop as your opponent hits.
Mental Game
• Unforced errors are the enemy. Most points are lost, not won.
• Reset after every rally. Pros have short memories. Be a goldfish

Retirement is often seen as a time to slow down— but it can also be the perfect opportunity to focus on your health, energy, and overall well-being. Staying active after retirement doesn’t require expensive equipment or complicated routines. With a little creativity and consistency, fitness can become an enjoyable part of everyday life.
Some of the best forms of exercise are already built into your day. Walking the dog, gardening, washing the car, or doing light yard work all keep your body moving. Taking the stairs, carrying groceries, or doing a few stretches while watching TV can add up more than you think. The key is regular movement—small efforts done often make a big difference.
Take Advantage of Your Community
Our sidewalks are great for fresh air and gentle cardio. The Fitness Center also hosts a variety of fitness classes for all levels. Staying active with others helps build accountability and keeps fitness fun.

Skylar Aponte joined the Hampton Hall team as a personal trainer in the Fitness Center in January 2026. Born and raised in the Lowcountry, she brings a strong local connection and a unique background to her role. Before transitioning into fitness, Skylar worked as a chef at several local favorites, including Frankie Bones and Wise Guys—bringing creativity, discipline, and energy from the kitchen into her training approach.
Skylar is passionate about health and fitness and enjoys helping others reach their goals.
The Fitness Center provides structure, motivation, and access to safe, effective equipment. Whether you’re new to exercise or getting back into it, we offer a welcoming environment designed to support all fitness levels. Group exercise classes are especially beneficial—they’re instructor-led, social, and adaptable to your abilities.
Personal trainers aren’t just for athletes. Trainers can help retirees improve balance, strength, flexibility, and confidence while reducing the risk of injury. Even a few sessions can teach you proper form, help set realistic goals, and create a routine you can follow on your own.
The best part is you don’t need a gym to get started. These easy exercises can be done anywhere:
Chair Squats: Sit down and stand up from a chair to strengthen legs and hips.
Wall Push-Ups: A great upper-body exercise that’s easy on the joints.
Marching in Place: Improves balance and cardiovascular health.
Standing Leg Lifts: Hold onto a counter or chair for support and lift one leg at a time to build stability.
Stretching: Gentle stretching improves flexibility and helps reduce stiffness.
The most important part of staying fit after retirement is consistency. Choose activities you enjoy, start slow, and build gradually. Always listen to your body and rest when needed. Fitness at this stage of life is about maintaining independence, energy, and quality of life—not pushing limits. Retirement is your time—make movement part of it. Whether at home, in the community, or at your fitness center, staying active helps you feel stronger, happier, and healthier for years to come.

Our Hampton Hall neighbors truly showed their generosity this season. Thanks to your incredible support of the Annual Children’s Book Drive, we collected and distributed 409 books to our three beneficiary organizations: Boys & Girls Club (Bluffton), CAPA (Beaufort), and The Children’s Center (Hilton Head).
Because of you, hundreds of children will experience the joy of reading this holiday season. Thank you for helping make a meaningful difference in our community.
Members interested in learning more about the Those of Prose Book Club may contact Alice Pitts at akpitts51@yahoo.com.
The Hampton Hall Charitable Fund is pleased to announce two exciting spring events that combine community, fun, and meaningful impact. Members are encouraged to mark their calendars and join in supporting these worthy causes.
Kick off the spring season with a fun and spirited Charity Par 3 Golf Tournament. This popular event includes golf, lunch, great raffle items, and an exciting silent auction. Most importantly, all proceeds will benefit Beaufort Memorial Hospital and Children’s Cancer Partners (www. childrenscancerpartners.org)
Entry Fee: $100 per golfer
Registration: Sign up through the Golf Calendar Fashion Show & Luncheon | TUESDAY, APRIL 28
The long-awaited return of the Hampton Hall Fashion Show is here. This year’s theme, Springtime in the Lowcountry, will feature fashions provided by Gigi’s of Bluffton, modeled by our very own Hampton Hall ladies. Guests will enjoy a luncheon, raffles, a silent auction, pop-up shops, and more.
Proceeds from the Fashion Show will support the Charitable Fund’s Grants Program, benefiting children and families in Beaufort and Jasper counties. Registration details will be shared soon.
The Hampton Hall Charitable Fund would also like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who donated toys to the Bluffton Self Help Christmas Toy Drive in December. A special thank you goes to the volunteers who drove through the neighborhood to collect the donations. Your generosity helped make the holidays brighter for many children in our community.

Founded in 2010, the Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes (LFWMH) has engaged the community to raise funds in support of qualified charities who provide vital assistance to combat wounded military heroes and their families in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia’s Coastal Empire. We donate 100% of the proceeds from our fundraising events to Birdies for the Brave® who distribute these funds to our specified charities. In 2025, LFWMH surpassed our previous annual donations with $410,000 going to seven charities bringing our total donations since inception to $2,699,000. Over 78% of this total provided: 39 service canines through K9’s for Warriors, 8 scholarships for children through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and 11 mortgage-free homes through Military Warriors Support Foundation.
We PROUDLY celebrate 15 Years of Changing Lives again at three venues: May 4 at Wexford and May 18 at both Oldfield and here at Hampton Hall. LFWMH is a 100% volunteer organization, but who are these folks? Let’s meet a few! Read their thoughts in the right column.
Now we hope you are inspired to get involved and help us achieve our goal of $3,000,000 in 2026. We invite you to register your foursome to play a round of golf with a wounded hero and to enjoy all the additional festivities to include a golf clinic, parachute jump, presentation of colors, a scrumptious buffet, an awards ceremony, and a live auction.
Not a golfer? Why not join our team of volunteers here at Hampton Hall? You will work alongside your neighbors, make new friends, and utilize untapped talents. Most importantly you will be helping to change lives and ensure the sacrifices of our service members are NEVER FORGOTTEN. To learn more about participating in the 2026 Wounded Heroes Golf Classic or possibly volunteering, contact us at (843) 949-8596 or treasurer@LFWMH.org. “Soon after moving in, I started playing golf with Russ Spicer and learned about LFWMH. Getting involved in May 2014 was a no brainer! My current role is Head of Operations. Although, I have also assisted with AV, served as an Escort, and hosted Heroes at our home. And those American flags you see flying six times a year, it is the LFWMH Flag Crew who volunteer to make these flags fly proudly.”

Bender
“After moving here in April 2021, I saw lots of flags displayed that May and I was curious. When I got to know our neighbors Lynn and Pete Doukas, I learned about the LFWMH and knew I had found my volunteer cause. Lynn was the Auction Donations Chair, so my inclination was to help her, and here I am! This is my third year of Chairing the Auction Donations Committee.”
—Dawn DeSimone
“I attended my first opening ceremony shortly after moving here. Listening to the national anthem, watching the American flag float through the sky, and learning about the LFWMH mission was a powerful experience. So, when I heard there was a need to help with auction check-out, I was happy to volunteer. It’s something I look forward to every year, so that I can do my small part to thank the heroes for their service.”
—Jill Freedman
“I have been blessed to participate in the LFWMH for the past five years. In my first year, I was afforded the opportunity to be an Escort for a Military Hero at Hampton Hall and in the subsequent years, I sponsored a golf team. Today, I am a member of the Solicitation Team whose primary objective is to garner support via monetary donations and/or auction items.” —Chuck Najjoum
