YEARS

Celebrating electrical excellence since 1956

For seven decades, NICEIC has been a trusted name in electrical safety and quality. We help drive the industry forward and stand alongside our certified businesses, helping them raise standards and deliver work that keeps people safe.

Looking ahead together

The world will keep changing, new technologies, new challenges, but our commitment remains the same: professionalism, safety and trust

Meet the experts, face-to-face

For 70 years, the NICEIC brand has been trusted by government, local authorities, commercial clients, and customers.

It is set to be a year of important updates and change across the sector, particularly with the publication of Amendment 4:2026 to BS 7671:2018, and updates to the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) which are set to impact businesses that undertake periodic inspection and testing and/or low-carbon installations.

As the UK’s leading certification body for electrical businesses, NICEIC will be with you every step of the way, with technical insights and support with your professional development and training. Whether you are looking to expand your skillset or access tailored support, NICEIC is here to help you build your reputation on ours.

The NICEIC Technical team will be at every ElexShow event in 2026 to offer advice and answer any questions you may have about these industry changes, as well as NICEIC schemes, products, training, or anything else you may want to speak to us about.

Build your knowledge at our live seminars

Our stand will be the go-to place for expert technical advice. And we’ll be presenting two CPD-accredited seminars every day, at every show. We look forward to seeing you at the NICEIC stand, or at one of our seminars.

Test your skills on our stand rigs

If you’re interested in exploring prosumer installations, you can check out the NICEIC demonstration rig. Learn how to integrate battery storage systems with new or existing installations and discover the benefits of producing and consuming self-generated energy.

We will also showcase a brand-new EV charging rig, featuring a twin three-phase electric vehicle charging point (EVCP) and a standard single-phase EVCP.

Developments reshaping the industry

It is set to be a year of important updates across the sector.

Amendment 4

On 15 April 2026, the IET and BSI will publish Amendment 4 to BS 7671:2018, with the outgoing edition due to be withdrawn on 15 October 2026.

Amendment 4 introduces substantive updates, notably a new chapter on stationary secondary batteries, functional earthing/equipotential bonding for ICT systems, and a new section on power over ethernet (PoE), alongside a major revision to medical locations.

Businesses can implement Amendment 4 immediately on publication and, after the six month transition, it will become the definitive standard for new work, modifications, and periodic inspection and testing.

Amendment 4 will not only help to bring the UK’s electrical regulations up to date with advancing technology but also enhance safety and professionalism across the sector. NICEIC has a full programme of support to help certified businesses prepare for the change.

Changes to the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS)

The EAS is the industry agreed specification that electrotechnical businesses must meet to be certified with a certification or registration body in the UK. The EAS is applied industry-wide and is not specific to NICEIC.

Clearer competence requirements for businesses undertaking periodic inspection and testing (EICRs) are already in effect.

Warm Homes Plan

The Government’s Warm Homes Plan, published in January 2026, commits £15 billion to upgrade up to five million homes with measures including solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps and insulation.

The plan also promises stronger standards for rented homes and establishes a new Warm Homes Agency to streamline delivery.

Crucially, the government outlined plans to invest in the skills needed to expand and upskill the installer base. The plan looks set to boost demand for renewable and low carbon installations, creating significant opportunities for skilled and qualified installers.

From 1 October 2026, new work categories and qualification requirements will come into effect for businesses undertaking the following low-carbon installation work:

• Electric vehicle charging equipment (EVCE)

• Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems

• Electrical energy storage systems (EESS)

• Micro wind turbine installation.
