Tuesday Brief
General Superintendent Max Edwards & Judy
March 24, 2026 Two Opportunities for Involvement and Information 1. Kerusso Publications Team The recent expansion of the bi-monthly Kerusso Newsletter is creating a need and opportunity for us to develop a design and production staff. If you like to write, edit, proofread, work with graphics, or just work on a team of people pulling in the same direction to achieve a deadlined goal, we’d love to talk to you. We very much want to present a periodical that is engaging and interesting, as well as comprehensive and helpful. It is a platform to remind everyone what the key word for the year is … for 2026, that word is “Serve.” And the newly designed publication will have routine departmental reports from areas such as youth, missions, church reports, our resource library, open ministry opportunities, and inspirational articles. And there will always be space for announcements about upcoming events, conferences, retreats, and the like. Contact Judy Edwards: jedwards@emchurch.org if you are interested and she’ll schedule you for an informal conversation/interview.
The Kerusso – March/April | 2026 Kerusso (Greek): “To publish, proclaim openly: something which has been done.”
Celebrating Christ’s Resurrection! In April, Christians around the EMC, and around world will again celebrate the most incredible event in human history the death, burial, and triumphant resurrection of our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. As we do, we will remember Him: His passion, and His presence, His commitment, and His condescension, His vicarious sacrifice, and His victorious superiority! This issue of the Kerusso is about triumph! God is at work in the world, and in the people, churches, and conferences of the Evangelical Methodist Church, and we PRAISE GOD for every soul, every pastor, every congregation, and every global conference in which He is worshipped as the one true living God and the cardinal reason for our joy and hope!
“It’s Friday, But Sunday’s Coming” Pastor Shadrach Meshach (S. M.) Lockridge (March 7, 1913 – April 4, 2000) was the Senior Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego, California for forty years. Pastor Lockridge was an inspiring and well-known pulpiteer that had a tremendous gift for preaching beautifully crafted sermons that stirred the hearts of his congregants from 1953 to 1993. His two most memorable sermons were “That’s My King!” and “It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming!” Here are links to video portions of them in his own voice: “My King” or “It’s Friday”
(We apologize for the YouTube Advertisements)
This is excerpted from Dr. Lockridge’s incredible “It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming” sermon: “It’s Friday. Jesus is praying. Peter’s a sleeping. Judas is betraying. But Sunday’s comin’. It’s Friday. Pilate’s struggling. The council is conspiring. The crowd is vilifying. They don’t even know that Sunday’s comin’.
In this Issue of the Kerusso S. M. Lockridge (It’s Friday) ..............1
It’s Friday. The disciples are running like sheep without a shepherd. Mary’s crying. Peter is denying. But they don’t know that Sunday’s a comin’.
“From Death to Life” .................... 2-3
It’s Friday. The Romans beat my Jesus. They robe Him in scarlet. They crown Him with thorns. But they don’t know that Sunday’s comin’.
God is at Work in Myanmar .............5
It’s Friday. See Jesus walking to Calvary. His blood dripping. His body stumbling. And his spirit’s burdened. But you see, it’s only Friday. Sunday’s a comin’. It’s Friday. The earth trembles. The sky grows dark. My King yields his spirit. It’s Friday. Hope is lost. Death has won. Sin has conquered. And Satan’s just a laughing. It’s Friday. Jesus is buried. A soldier stands guard. And a rock is rolled into place.
